I really wish they didn’t lose or re-record over, (or whatever happened) to the reel of super friend from these sessions. The short playback clip on the video capture device video sounded amazing!

God i know. Honestly it's my favorite thing they've ever done easily. The timing. The way the bass winds down at the end. It's just beautiful. Can't be beat. Criminal it was lost. Needs to be recorded exactly how it sounded in that session.

@@MonkeyMichael123they aren't... several of them have different synths and vocal takes.
Why Bother, You Gave Your Love To Me Softly, and Waiting on You are all sourced from this session.

There is is a very specific sound that comes with most of the Weezer demos and I love it so much. I wonder what causes this effect?

Hi there. I was the person who leaked these originally. The quality that you’re hearing here is not much better than what I had on cassettes. I got them randomly from a Weezer fan back in the 90s. I’m glad they’re out there for all to enjoy now.

@@JustinHoenkethank you so much for sharing them!! Can’t get enough Weezer from the first 2 albums with Matt and the SS2K, 2000 & 2001 Green & post-Green demos w/Mikey. Then Scott’s powerhouse playing on the Maladroit demos & outtakes. I just thought a lot of the leftover SS2K songs and Maladroit in general needed way more grit and overall noise in the production. Too slick for my taste.
Real quick, since you shared: I had the honor (and FUN of meeting and hung out with Mikey in ‘02 w/his band the Kickovers. The 2nd gig at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ, Mikey’s awesome, sweet as hell, funny, cool as could be, guitarist Johnny Rioux (later the bassist and founding member of The Street Dogs) put Hash Pipe on the jukebox just to bust Mikey’s balls - and my jaw hit the floor. But we all ended up laughing; whenever Johnny was around, you knew you were gonna laugh and have a great time and he was gonna treat you like you were his lifelong friend. He was absolutely amazing to me.
Anyway, Mikey leaned over to me when the breakdowns before and after the chorus in Hash Pipe came on and he said, “Listen, hear those breakdown parts before and after the chorus? I came up with the music for all that cause Rivers couldn’t figure out a way to get from the verse to the chorus and back to the verse again. I wrote the music for those sections and Rivers never gave me any credit.” All I could muster up was, “What a fuc_!n’ azzh0l3!!!”about Rivers.
I could hear so much sadness and such let-down in Mikey’s voice. He was broken up over all of it. He felt totally betrayed by 1st) the band ditching him (which has always been a confusing, “Who left who” story), then 2nd) Rivers wouldn’t give him 1 single credit to such important parts on Hash Pipe; one of their biggest songs they’ve ever written.
I felt so sad for him.
I think Rivers should man-up now that Mikey’s gone and give him the writing credit he deserves for Hash Pipe. It sure would give Mikey’s 2 children a piece of their dad’s legacy??? Not to mention a LOT of royalty money from their father’s work. And it would be a LOT of money for just that one song.
Now, I know there is no doubt Juliana Hatfield did the right thing and made certain Mikey’s 2 boys get all his royalties from her album that she co-wrote with Mikey; the amazing album Total System Failure.
Mikey played on the whole album and co-wrote 4 or 5 songs.
      Hash Pipe though?
They may have ditched that song or at the very least it woulda never been as good without Mikey’s parts he wrote for it.
I wish every Weezer fan could’ve met Mikey when he was sober. Seriously, no exaggeration, he was the sweetest guy. No ego, no phony BS. Just the nicest guy who absolutely loved the Weezer fans who stuck by him.
The music business was too dark, rotten and poisonous for him.
I swear, when he started following Weezer around again, that is what caused him to fall off the wagon hardcore and that’s what ended his life.
He left his safe zone in Vermont, flew to Nashville, was supposed to see Weezer in Chicago, but that dirty, lowlife B!+CH, who didn’t give a crap about him, just called him her boyfriend but used his money to get them both heroin, most likely was there when he OD’ed in the hotel room, probably escapes through the window or something, took his drawings and, this is after he was dead, sold them on eBay to score more money for dope.
What a lovely, sweetheart of a “girlfriend”.
My fiancee found that one out. I can’t say enough bad things about that phony-azz,POS GF who used him till he died.
      Sorry so long.
Last thing, I thought was so nice:
Mikey and Matt Sharp were really good friends at the time. Their girlfriends knew each other and were friends too. I remember Mikey me, “I just got Matt’s new acoustic album. Wait till you hear it! It’s amazing! You are going to love it.”
Just wanted to share that with ya like I said.
He was a great, wonderful, sweet guy when he was clean and sober. Sadly, he only lasted with the Kickovers for not even half of 2002.
I’m just blessed I got to see and meet him and got to know him. We had too much in common, sadly.
My one and only regret was constantly promising all these users/mooches autographs of his and the rest of the Kickovers. And the fact that I was maybe not as bad as Mikey, but I was definitely not at all my nice, kind and respectful self. The other band members didn’t seem bothered by me and my autographs for all these strangers, but toward the end I could tell Mikey was sick of it.
I talked to him over e-mail years later, told him how I was sober too and I apologized for being annoying. Tbh, I don’t think he remembered it too much because we were both messed up.
He was supposed to paint my acoustic guitar and we planned on meeting up at his art show in January 2012. But he passed away shortly before that.
He was a character who did the impossible: He replaced my main man Matt Sharp in Weez. He wasn’t as much of a wacky genius and songwriter as Matt, but he managed to keep Matt’s same level of energy going in that band.
It would be lovely to see Mikey get inducted into the RnR HoF with Weezer one day. I can honestly say, he would LAUGH about it. Yet, he’d be so happy to be in there with his hero, Jim Morrison.
      Sorry so long.
      Cheers!

If you listen closely you can see some changes, like extra voices in No Other One, or the solo guitar and synth removed from You Gave Me Your Love To Me Softly. These aren't 100% the final studio recordings, but maybe the raw recordings c:
