It's amazing to me how much good stuff _didn't_ make this album and it was still great!! As for those that did make the cut, I found something kind of neat in seeing them among the first time they were ever played. It gives me that feeling of knowing a band when they are indie and watching them become famous.
I pass by this place every time I go to my local target and it always makes me smile knowing that Weezer went to record my favorite album of theirs there.
same. I get that the mix was very raw compared to the blue album, but the songs themselves were fantastic. You would think the songs would be the most influcencial peice of what makes an album successful or not...
Maybe he knew it was cho cho san (the female lead in madame butterfly) and was joking but this happens when your in bands, sometimes some members don't realize the real lyric. It's always a funny revelation when you find out haha
If that’s Sound City studios where they’re recording, then that’s the exact same mixing desk that was used on Nevermind! Piece of history. Edit: yes, that is Sound City and it is indeed the legendary Neve console
So crazy to think that this did not do "commercially well" and how Rivers thought this was a "Hideous" album when actually this was one of their best! Yes it was a much darker record then "Blue" but it's way better than what they do today and this had the infamous Matt Sharp and it was still very much "I'm very sad let me sing you a sad song" feel. I sometimes even prefer this album over "Blue" but its based on my mood. Such a great fucking album!!!
Matt Sharp had little to nothing to do with the first two albums. Rivers wrote the majority of them, with some help from Pat on a few songs on the blue album. Matt's reputation came solely from him being in the right place at the right time.
Remus McLoud Rivers wrote the songs but I'm pretty sure Matt came up with his bass part because I saw an interview of Mikey Welsh and Pat and they said Rivers comes to them with a song and gives them freedom on how they're gonna play their instrument at least for bass and drums.
Remus McLoud in a recent interview with Pat it said that Matt wrote most of No One Else and Pat wrote the foundation of The World Has Turned and Left Me Here
So crazy. This album is solidified in my mind as a masterpiece and see them creating it is surreal. It's obvious but actually thinking about it feels strange. You mean there was a time I couldn't just listen to Pinkerton whenever I felt like cause it didn't exist? Fuck that.
Puig never gets/got the well-deserved credit for making sense out of these sessions. They made a really solid Rock record that went totally over a lot of heads at the time.
Its awesome to find the hidden roots of my favorite album. So many songs from "Songs From the Black Hole" as well that never made it into an album. Its so cool to just get a taste of their personalities and feelings before the absolute nightmare that started from "Make Believe."
I really wish the version of Super friend from these sessions could have seen the light of day. According to Rivers regarding why it wasn't on the deluxe version was because something happened to the tape. It either was lost or erased or something?
@@autistic.dronesIm late but. geffen has been pretty happy with pinkerton's later coming up from what i know, and still handles stuff like the 30th blue release they just put out. Id assume if its available itd be out (considering we got 2 pinkerton demos AFTER the release of deluxe for free anyway.)
I just wish I had stuff like this/UA-cam when I was younger. Instead I had to wait for a magazine to see what was going on..... Now I can see what they had for breakfast

Remus McLoud You should keep copy/pasting this comment everywhere Matt Sharp is mentioned on the internet (even though you weren't there and, of course, have no fucking clue).
It is, thank you, I just found it. Unfortunately, the version found lacks the punch this raw live footage has, but that could have been a fantastic song.
Sorry for late response, it’s called Superfriend and there’s a version of it on one of Rivers’ Alone albums, although it’s different than this one it’s still a good one.
Guy Fieri Lol. A year later, and you're still the only one! I love Weezer, but fuck it, I can't let your dislike stand alone. I'm going for #2! I got your back, bro!

I still can't believe this album flopped so hard when it first came out
...and now it's certified gold. What a unique destiny.
I just won't ever get why is it now considered better than Blue
@@domparah it’s a matter of subjective taste, but people who prefer pink cite that it’s more personal, and generally prefer it’s rawer sound.

8:02 ugh the bass in this song is phenomenal, I love it so much.
Wish this version of "Superfriend" made it onto an album of some sort.
It's on his Alone album. That's good enough for me.
There's so many great songs that were demoed during the Pinkerton sessions. I'd kill for the Rivers sung version of "I Just Threw" from the beginning.
This is my dream,..the studio version of =w=s superfriend.
@@michaelwandell2533 true!!! The best unfinished song ever
@@lazrpo the demo leaked a week ago. Go check it out, it’s good! You can find it on UA-cam.
It’s a total shame that we never got to hear the Weezer version of Superfriend. This footage is amazing.

Ye Pinkerton is listed in the Sound City documentary
Same couch Cobain seat on while recording something in the way
The drums from when they were recording superfriend were badass
That looked like Weezers current Bassist Scott Shriner in the Beginning

That’s Matt Sharp m8
Yeah Matt sharp
What a great band.

Rivers' beard...WTF haha
He had one in 2002 also during the Maladroit era
Rush1017 It wasn't as crazy as in the recording of Pinkerton 😂
Don Beck No, it was much crazier lol. Check out the Dope Nose vido
Was pretty cool to see them recording Across The Sea!
I need this version of Superfriend in best demo quality. Sadly I don't think it will ever be released.
Let's not give up

11:07 Rivers showing how he wants the bass played on el scorcho
yeah but nooo matt TOTALLY was responsible for weezer being good back in the day lmao
R A T C H E T yeah Pinkerton was definitely Rivers baby. But I think the blue album was definitely a team effort with Matt and Pat
I think it shows the reason why Matt would part from the band later. He wanted to do his own stuff and not having other people telling him what to do.
I need superfriend this version
Crazy to think Rivers could potentially be bringing SFTBH to life soon. Heres hoping.
I love this album
Finally hearing the tracks from Songs From The Blackhole with higher quality audio is insane.
I think I like Rivers vocals more on that alt take of Tired Of Sex
Amazing clip!
5:23 thought Pat was playing When the Levee Breaks for a second also here 11:40
1:25 is that Patrick Wilson in a toon top? hell yeah
This looks so fun
3:04 Fucking phone call ruined the song so we can hear the rest
Rivers has such a big beard holy crap
Was Patrick wearing a Newcastle United jersey?
Indeed, he was :)

Is there a full version of that IJTOTLOMD demo or has it been lost to time?
Rivers is playing Les Pauls, makes sense, also what is the single coil SG used in?
Daft Doggo that’s a Gibson melody maker
It Brian's main guitar for almost all of the nineties, I think it's a really neat guitar
11:07-12:45 el scorchero starts and ends at 12:45
is pat wearing a newcastle shirt?
This versions unbelievable. Where's the actual track? (Of course I'm speaking of superfriend.)

ViperStarFilms Rivers is way more extroverted. He used to be extremely introverted.
Don Beck Yeah no doubt, well, i wouldnt say hes THAT extroverted. hes still a bit awkward.
Van Nuys? More like Van Guys.
