Missouri became a "sanctuary" on Saturday, and McClosekeys' plead guilty today, for basically standing with firearms on their own property, now they have a domestic violence ban under the guise of a assaults misdmeanor in order for the DA to drop the firearms felonies. They turned over the two guns but not the rest of the guns in the house. If real, a person probably wouldn't be able to use holdmyguns cause they state would probably come for the rest of them. Another aspect of AK that is often overlooked is that it's manual of arms for any type malfunction clearing is basically to unload and then reload the weapon. This action alone will clear 99% of any stoppage issue that you can muster. For M4 variants it's a different acronym for every sort of malfunction which is harder to learn under duress.

You should, I was an AK fanboy through and through, it was my first rifle 10 years ago, bought my first AR about 2 years ago. Not gonna lie, I wasn’t super impressed, it was a little lighter, recoiled slightly less (it was over gassed), all in all it was decent but I wouldn’t say better, especially considering how well tuned my AKs are.
I started swapping steel parts with titanium to shave weight off (get a titanium muzzle brake, out front is where the weight savings mean the most) started swapping out buffers and springs. Next thing I knew, it barely recoiled more than a .22lr, and barely weighed more than a 1911 (slight exaggeration).
I’m still more familiar with the AK platform, and I’d take an out-the-box AK over an out-the-box AR. But a well tuned AR will have you shooting like you never could with an AK.

@@jonahpatton8879yeah an ar needs to be well tuned to feel great. Compared to my ar my Ak feels much better to shoot. Which is strange cause most people dog on the ergonomics of the Ak, I would probably like a short barreled AR in 300 blackout, way better. Cause my 16 inch ar felt a bit more awkward to hold and reload than the Ak which to me has a perfect centered weight distribution. Both are good platforms, ar is lighter with less recoil, though I don’t feel like I’d be at a severe disadvantage with the Ak.

    • @jonahpatton8879
      @jonahpatton8879 Рік тому

@@PenguinNoodleSoup my AK is still my go to rifle, but I won't be for long. I'm building two ARs right now that are definitely going to be my primary rifles. One is a 13.7 inch pinned and welded, the other is going to be a 16 inch with magnified optics, I'm really doing the most with these. You can only customize an AK so much, there is virtually no limit with ARs. That doesn't mean my AK is retiring, just taking a different seat, there are still some things it can do that an AR can't, but there are more things that a well tuned AR can do better than vice versa.

It's hard to recommend AKs to any new shooters right now though because a quality and dependable AR can still be found for semi reasonable prices these days. Meanwhile, the quality options for AKs are expensive and getting hard to find and the number of low quality rifles on the market continues to be an issue. If you train to insert the mag and hit the mag release with your thumb it’s much faster than dropping an AK mag and then reaching under or over the rifle to chamber a round. We were always roughy in the .75-.80 time frame but the other guys with us with their ARs were almost always in the .45 to .37 if I remember correctly. Not having to use your index finger for two purposes on the AK is what made the AR consistently faster. Shorter triggers probably also helped.

5:31-6:39 Speed drills with an audio timer basically instill training scars. They condition you to expect a beep, and often already have you well informed where your targets already are. So when you execute, you are just focused on going to those known targets as fast as possible. This often has you ignoring almost everything and just zoning straight in on the known targets.
It's all rather like a grandly choreographed movie stunt, with rehearsals until you can pull off that one exact set of moves with that exact set of targets in that exact setting fast and smooth when the filming actually starts. (Hello, Mr. Wick.)
But this isn't realistic for actual gunfights, at all. No matter how good military intel may be, the situation is never laid out for you on a silver platter like that. And this is even more true for the kinds of spontaneous operations that civilians may face, without any advance intel at all. In reality, there are lots of variables and lots of randomness. You will be surprised. You will be confronted with confusion and ambiguity, and you will have to take time to process and then make decisions on the fly.
And despite the universal gun safety rule of muzzle awareness (don't point it at something you're not willing to destroy), speed drills that have you rushing straight to known targets and blasting basically have you cheat, by knowing exactly whom to be willing to destroy and whom to muzzle and shoot. They bypass the requirement for you to figure this out in the moment. And if you get used to bypassing that...
So in a lot of ways those speed drills fail to train you realistically, therefore they fail to train you right. They teach you *trick shooting,* but not realistic violent incident shooting.
This is also my biggest gripe about shooting competitions. Preset stages where you get to recon the exact layout beforehand is so fake. That completely deprives you of the critical task of assessing scenes and differentiating between targets and friendlies *in real time.*

I always prove all my weapons and ammunition, no exceptions, no excuses not to. this weapon is like it’s part me and very comfortable for me .but it’s not for everyone. I tell people when they finally get it , to master that weapon and help them out if I can. to buy the best made weapon they can afford. I never down play them and and lower them , if THATS the only thing you got you would be as well off with a rock. I own two hi point pistols . a9 mm and a45 acp that also shoots limited rounds of 45 super. what’s the difference to a dead man whether shot with my cz , smiths , Taurus, hi point? that would be like asking the question what is time to a hog . all my weapons must work on time, any time, every time with no exceptions. regardless of price. so we need to quit playing down those who can’t afford high dollar weapons because the anti gun groups love when that happens. gives them a little more gas to run on . I have tons of personal experience running full auto AR’s (m4’s) in 5.56/223 and so I’ve noticed over the years that their main reliability issue when mag dumping is failure to fire due to the firing pin not 100% engaging the primer fully. But funny enough the guns will continue to function flawlessly in semi auto but in full auto they will fire 2-3 round bursts before a malfunction. I consider this a weak point to consider if you’re going to use an ar-style weapon system as a full auto support system.

Having trained on both, the AK is "different" when it comes to manipulating the selector vs an AR. An AR, it should be in safe when you work the charging handle but for the AK, the selector blocks the bolt from going back, so you have to flick it off. Because of how different it was designed, you'd have to take your hand off the grip to work the safety and it can be slower to work vs an AR that all you need to do is flick with your thumb. But that's for beginners to AKs. Both guns are good for most situations, it's just a different manual of arms.

Unless you can consistently outperform the tool then there's no need to upgrade.
If you can't lay a decent bead with a $500 welder then buying a $5,000 welding machine isn't going to make you stack nickles every time.

Committing to a platform can get confusing especially for new shooters. I have fired both platforms, but i feel more comfortable with the AR platform, so i chose it invest my time into it. I still enjoy shooting the ak, but it will not be my first line rifle.

CQB I would grab the AK but anything over 75-100 yards I wounld definitely want the AR. Mag changes are a bit harder on an AK though.

I have an AR, it’s a bit too heavy for my wife. I, being a new shooter with it, requires some conditioning.
Then, years later, I decided to get a PS 90. I actually prefer it over the AR, when it comes to home defense or CQC. All the weight is at the back of the gun which makes it way easier to move because of the balance. Target acquisition is way faster. It comes standard with three sights. Two iron sights and one peep hole.
My wife didn’t really like the way the gun looks, but she’s starting to want her own.
We have not really shot much, maybe a couple of hundred rounds a piece, but when we shoot that PS 90, the round go were we intended. It makes you feel like you are an awesome shooter right away because the rounds go straight. At 30 or so feet, she and I can hit just about any part of the target we intended with no surprises.
The gun is just natural to use. With the AR, you need to practice a little but with the PS90, inner look and you’re good.
The PS 90 also feels better when you switch hands to shoot, going from my dominate to my other just feels more natural than with the AR.
I know the round is small, but I can get heard shots at 30 feet constantly with no training. So that’s something.

If you like the bull pup design there are plenty of 5.56 bull pups that give you all the advantages you described but with a much more lethal round. The IWI Tavor for example.

I like the PS90, but ARs have come a long way. If the PS90 isn't SBRed, it's going to be about the same length as AR with an arm brace, and weigh about the same as a reasonably lightweight AR. Sure, the PS90 balances the weight rearward, and 50 round magazines make up for the difficulty changing mags, but the PS90 also has the disadvantage for CQB of higher sight over bore; although the OEM Ringsight isn't terrible, and Design Machine makes low mounts for other optics. The AR easily wins for ballistics, even compared to my choice for self-defense 5.7 ammo, Elite T6B.

@@timewave02012 sure. It wins in ballistics, but a .50 BMG wins over all of them. But that’s not the point. You need the right tool for the job. I’m a bit concerned about over penetration with the AR, I’m not so much with the ps 90.
Once practice a bit with the magazine changes, it’s not bad at all. I’d say on par with a normal ar mag change.
One thing I would like to see is the ps90 have a bolt catch so when the last round goes, the bolt stays open. But they charging handle is fine.
Not sure how you put a flag in the thing though. For the range.

@@darksideblues135 I only mentioned ballistics after establishing that modern lightweight pistol ARs don't have the size or weight disadvantages that normally accompany a more powerful round. Over-penetration isn't that much of an issue with either 5.56 or 5.7 because lightweight bullets that rely on high velocity destabilize easily. A lot of 12ga and conventional handgun rounds are actually worse. You'll never change a P90 magazine as fast as an AR, with equal practice on both, because you need to remove the expended P90 magazine with your support hand before fetching a loaded magazine, instead of dropping the expended AR magazine with your firing hand while (at the same time) fetching the loaded magazine with your support hand. Maybe that time difference doesn't matter, and you probably wouldn't need to reload in a self defense situation anyway, but if it did matter, the AR would have the advantage.
You can definitely put a chamber flag in a PS90, from the top. The RSO might not see it at casual glance, but it'll work for you and anyone shooting with you. If we're going to get into all the pros and cons of the systems, I would also mention the trigger, and some people say it's not fair to compare a bullpup trigger to a normal layout, but there are bullpups like the K&M and Desert Tech that have really good triggers even by normal layout standards, and conversely there are normal layout rifles with triggers that are heavy like the FAL, disappointing for the money like the SCAR, or just plain terrible like the Beretta ARX. A light/crisp trigger might not even be desirable for self defense, but you really appreciate it for everything else.
