Reid Henrichs just bought your book. Cannot wait to read it. I have extensive experience in self defense training and firearms. I was a NRA certified instructor. (Not sure that means anything anymore) Have our own private range on the farm we call “the park” (it a shaded meadow). Fire thousands of rounds a year. Have worn a gun every day for 19 years about 14-16 hours a day. You get the point. You (meaning me) start to think there is not much to learn. Starting to get redundant, but I’m never disappointed with the things you have to say. I always learn from you. (No I have not yet been to one of your specific classes) I have a lot of respect for you. You are a very well rounded educator. You are what we need in this country. You and John Lovell from WPS are very similar. There is more to being a patriot and a Rifleman than just firearms. The brain is our greatest weapon. The gun is our most important tool. Sorry. Don’t mean to man crush. Just immense respect.
I like your set up, however getting shot in the next war without a base camp medic at the ready to patch us up, well just like the 1st civil war, it wasn't the gun shot that killed the most, it was the infections from the wounds and amputations that did. So on my kit in a small pack I have a nasal tube, my torniques, a black sharpie, wound gauze, clotting material, chest wound closures, and disinfectant and protective dressings, it's about 2lbs. Expect the Left, now that it has received $220 million from GS to fund all BLM/Antifa type groups, I fully expect a major riot, or similar to be tried late Oct 2020, right before the election. We have news that Custom's and DHS have intercepted mass quantity's of parts that turn normal semi auto ar/ak rifle into selective fire rifles. As well as weapon caches that have been found. With the evidence pointing back towards the CCP. That said, I will most likely use my plates while driving to my destination, once there, leave the plates and scurry off with my kit, let's face it getting shot with a 270,308, size round is basically a death blow, esp. if there are no field stations to patch you up. I dunno about you but my pack weighs enough without the added weight of plates, yes the plates are great for defensive operations. Not so much if you have to walk, hike or climb with them and the entire kit at once. God Bless America
Hey Reid. After 5 classes at the Ridge. You still manage to teach my brother and I something new. That is why we keep coming back. You have watched Don & I dump gear from Rifleman 1 to now.. See you in October for home defense..
Tapped the thumbnail just because of the Tri-Star TN patch. 👍🏼For the direct delivery of info. Perspective is key. Thank you Sir, for your service. Then and now.
FINALLY! I got alot of crap from folks that have never taken fire for NOT running my mags on the from of my carrier. YOU NAILED IT! When you're trying to get low, those mags that look so cool on front of your carrier are going to prevent you from getting as low as possible. To each his own, but it's nice to know that we're on the same page! Good stuff!
When I was active duty we were advised to keep the front as slim as you could manage, but we just had so much crap and it honestly never occurred to us and I never saw anyone put their mags on the side. Our side plates were really bulky as it was. Love this idea! Similar movement as going for a weak side pistol reload too.
I like that you’re caring your mags on your support hand side I can no longer wear a belt due to some injuries years and years ago but one thing I’ve always carried is a bandolier little over two years ago I retired my 30 caliber carbine in my 1911 I started carrying an M4 and a Glock 26This is for home defense but I’m looking at some light white armor and I may or may not get some I’m in the process of training my two nephews enjoyed it
Thanks for video. I like your idea and reason for carrying mags on support side. Makes sense to me. Even if you are in a vehicle. Thanks for your service, and continued efforts to teach us civilians
You throw on an old school H harness over that with mag pouches, canteens, and a buttpack, poncho. Unclip the front for prone. As threat escalates you add a fighting harness. I use Blueforcegear mag pouches on front of mine, they lay super flat when not needed
AKA Goldenrod, I'm glad to see someone else validating the slick plate carrier setup. I've been preaching to many of my fellow patriots "if you need six magazines you need combat resupply". If your defending your home or your neighborhood it would be better to have hardened defensible points where you can stage gear and dominate the surrounding terrain. Plus if you're being shot at you will never feel like you can make yourself small enough. Lol
So thankful for this video. Was trying to figure out what I need just last night. Was a Navy Damage Controlman so I’ve had absolutely zero experience with this item. Thanks brother! God bless.
Being a vet myself and having guys who have taken hits in their side plates and have had spalling from rounds and being shot in the forearm when you now have lost the only hand that can reach the mags you have a problem. Keep them center so both hands can manipulate. You can have side mags but always keep a few on the front and you can single stack them or get a kangaroo pouch mag insert if that's your thing. Get esstac, or hsgi. Also always test your gear. You will move your gear around 10 times before you figure out how you want your kit as well as everytime you add something new you might have to switch everything around again. But to each their own and you will always have to do what works best for you.
I agree. Everybody runs mags in the front, so the fact that he didnt have any confused me even though he gave an explanation for it. On a side note, I also have the crye jpc 2.0 and run hsgi taco pouches on the front and going prone isnt a problem as it isnt as bulky as he thinks it is. Nevertheless to each their own.
I’m from Maine. I remember New Hampshire and Maine before the massholes retired by the horde and moved to our states, then voted to turn our states into mass part 2.
I feel like NH is still pretty good. This covid bs is basically on mute here, we are wide open for buisness, crime is extremely low, people are pretty good, and its nice and quiet. Yes, there is definitely some masshole transplants for sure, but in the big picture, its pretty awesome.
I don't keep ammo on the front. Once I was hit and my loaded magazine started to smoking and scared the Hell out of me because I thought it's about to explode. Finally, it did not. However, I wouldn't risk it twice! As I live in Scotland now I can't conceal carry anything but my trauma kit is my belt. It was on my belt when I was deployed (private sector) and I had my sidearm in a thigh holster. Opposite as your set up. But I like yours too! Keep up the good job!
Slick front is definitely the way to go. Aside from allowing you to get a low as possible when prone, it also aids in weapon presentation, manipulation, and normal administration related tasks. It also aids in driving, mounting and dismounting a vehicle, as well as hand to hand combatives. Running slick front also makes it easy to throw on a cover garment and reduce your overall signature. I will always run slick front and back. I run AR 5 magazines (3 on carrier, 2 on belt).
Thought that was a good rundown- thanks. Like your practical opinion as to the importance of being able to get prone with rig on. Only request might be a link below to each item of your kit mentioned.
In regards to stacking kit on your sides. Making yourself wider generally impedes your movement in narrow areas while conducting MOUT or scooting through bulkhead doors and hatches during VBSS.
Great ideas on load out! I have switched to a slick front a while back and like it better. I am from the days of wearing a flak jacket, so I do not like anything to hold me any higher than I have to be. Hope to come and train soon.
What goes on the bin of shame is non safety on the range and any man who lacks personal development! This being your trade is what makes these short clips great. Please speak more on burpees and 8 count body builders in full kit no matter how old you are.
When having issues drawing your pistol with gear on your rig in the way I suggest a drop leg. And drop leg rigs aren’t for everyone but they do have their place.
After many years of owning a Condor MOPC, my first plate carrier that I bought when money was tight, I've retired it and bought a Rogue Gunfighter Low Viz carrier today (July 17, 2020) from Tactical Assault Gear. I'm anxious to try it out.
I used double stack mags on the front overseas as a grunt without much issue. Yea you can't get as low to the ground with them else where, but faster access to magazines is more important to me.

Good idea having that knife on you. I am more terrified of knives than I am of guns. Being a short bladed weapon, they can be hard to defend against and often times, you never see that blade coming until it's too late. To quote Vegetius, "the adversary receives the point before he sees the sword."

thanks Reid I've thought about that type of setup but figured it would rub under my arm too much....I'm going to revisit it and see if it can be doable for me as I don't like how mags on the front keep me from getting all the way prone.
I use front because my off hand has shoulder range of motion issues, I also have a battle belt and the mag holders are on side I can pull those ok, if shift happens then I’ll probably pull the one off front of plate carrier, but for now it’s a grab and go set up.
All depends on what you’re doing. If you’re doing convoy work, short patrols or assaulting a building, lvl 4 plates and front mag pouches aren’t really an issue. Long distance recon, lightweight or no body armor at all might be better. Consider your mission and gear appropriately. Maybe more ammo would be a good thing if you don’t have access to QRF’s & the ability to call in airstrikes. Rarely mentioned gear in the civilian world are things like smoke grenades for exfil in urban or suburban combat situations.
Usually, load-outs are mission specific. Carry the tools & equipment you’ll need to carry out your mission. Having several different load outs makes way more sense to me. There is no one perfect load out IMHO. 😉
Its usually dudes doing what they're used to. The guys you see making videos usually weren't regular army or marines they were rangers/seals/maraoc dudes. They had a lot of leeway and access to better/lighter gear than the regular guys had. A lot of units required certain placement of certain items on your person. I've seen IFAK kits 3 rows of MOLLE wide and nearly 6 inches thick required to be placed on the front left most part of your plate carrier. So everyone knew exactly where it was and had fast access to it. Didn't matter if you were a 5'4 female or a 6'4 guy who shot left handed. It was required and it was strictly enforced. No open top mag pouches, they HAD to be the issued double stack velcro tops. With 2 mags in them each. They required where those went. Some units were more lenient than others however a lot of dudes humped the mountains of Afghanistan for 10 months in a retarded amount of weight and gear that didn't work for anybody. I just want to know who makes that pack. A very "no nonsense" look to it.
crye makes it, it zips on to the back of their carriers they make
I've always thought people who stack the mags up front definitely were fighting from vehicles, short patrols or urban settings.
