I still remember back in 2012, I was at the Chicago Comic Con, and being a huge Smallville fan, of course I had to get Michael's autograph. As I went up to his table, which was right beside Jon Heder's, I saw them having fun and throwing stuff at each other. Heder then threw a pen cap at Rosenbaum, which bounced off the table and hit me. Michael grabbed the pen cap, threw it back, and jokingly yelled, "Don't throw stuff at my fans!" So I'll always be able to say I got into a pen cap battle between Lex Luthor and Napoleon Dynamite.
Thats an awesome story!! I was at comic Con and saw my neighbor sitting at the strawberry shortcake table I was like what in the world! She said I thought that's why I thought you were always so nice, I had no idea my neighbor was the voice of strawberry shortcake
Napoleon Dynamite is a one of a kind stand alone film in it's own genre. It's kind of like the movie "A Christmas Story". I still watch Napoleon Dynamite at least once a year. I think this Christmas I'm going to start a tradition of watching it every Christmas.
I loved how Jon described Jim (his dad) as their “resident Vulcan” immediately following the explanation that he and his siblings were into film… dropping a movie reference… that was great. I joined the Church in 1996. My tie to Jon is unknown to him, but we actually rode the bus together and I remember the twins’ bus stop on Glen Creek. He knows my wife and her family, as they grew up together. Heck, he might even know me, by name anyways, I don’t know. Later on, his dad was my single adults’ bishop when I returned home from finishing my mission in 2000. His dad is awesome, super kind, very smart, etc., I can attest to that character. Napoleon Dynamite was shown to me by my younger brother when I came home from my mission. I’ll admit, I didn’t get it at first. I was like, “What is this?” Not a traditional film at that time. But now, I can (and do) quote that flick. That film is actually a real gem, GOSH! Wish Jon and the family the best! ❤️
I throughly enjoyed this week’s episode. Jon is delightful and he has such a calming presence about him. His stories about his dad were fascinating. His behind the scenes stories were delightful. He has such a great perspective especially when it comes to how he is raising his kids. He has such a calming presence.
Such a good episode. And yes, the safety as a child is definitely the root of anxiety I do believe. God bless you both. And I love that Jon was so direct but kind about calling out bullying. A standup guy and a great friend to you for sure Michael. My favorite interview thus far. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh!! The crystals line is my favorite line!!! 😆😆😆😆I’m always quoting it out of context, but only 10% of the time the other person will get the reference!
I think his laid-back mentality, like mine, is a product of growing up in smaller towns with calmer people. I also think it has a lot to do with your parents and how they raise you. My mom allowed my brother and I the freedom to not only learn things, but do things ourselves. She would be there to guide us, but not interfere, unless she knew it was detrimental. I was born an explorer. I would purposely get lost just to find a new way home. I think the combination of that, and the area I grew up in, was what made me how I was, and I am. I don’t let much bother me, even if an issue arises. As I always feel with enough thought, and positive action, that you can pretty much get through anything. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been through hard stuff in my life, sure, I have just like anybody else. But, letting it get to, you will only make things worse by making you more upset, and might hinder your progress in solving the problem. Whereas, if you keep a cool, calm head, and , think it through… You have a better chance of solving the issue quicker.
This was an interesting and fun episode, Jon definitely has a very laidback approach to life which gives him a calm and reassuring vibe. I loved the story you both told at the beginning about the man on his phone at the airport and Michael’s retort (wish I could have seen it)💖
Great episode!! I’m the weird person that never cared for the Napoleon Dynamite movie so it was interesting to get to know more about John. Thanks Michael!!
JON'S A GREAT FATHER. I was workin part time at the 5 an dime.. DOH! (sorry couldn't help it).. AT Sherman Oaks Bloomies rather, years ago. I noticed this dad going up n down escalator with his toddler daughter in arms laughing in hysterics..I thought "what a cool dad" ...double take an saw it was Heder... dude was smiling ear to ear...I always remembered his expression of joy 🙂.
Hey Michael, i know theirs a slight chance that you won't see this but im proud of you. I know you worry your podcast isn't enough and its always a delight when i see a new episode. As a content creator myself, i get it that you don't always believe it. I look forward to more episodes and thanks for being honest as always about everything. Keep up the great work.
I learned so many things about John Hender, especially about his positive outlook on life and his career ❤ Hé has an amazing family and that helps a lot !! Thanks to you, Michael, i discover enriching stories every time 💙💙🙌🙌
I know who Jon Heder is!!! 😆 I love learning about people I don't know on this podcast, but Jon I am aware of, I loved Napoleon Dynamite and Blades of Glory! 😄 It was great to learn more about Jon, he seems like such chill and good-natured person, and it was really interesting hearing about his dad - this was a really enjoyable listen. Thanks Jon, Rosey and Ryan ❤
This episode really spoke to me today, your discussion on pushing yourself to do your best and trusting yourself was awesome to listen to. Thanks Michael, Ryan and Jon you guys rock:)
Mr Rosenbaum! 🌹I can't tell you how freakin excited I am to find your podcast! I found Inside of You while stumbling upon Talk Ville, {yes I live under a rock} so I'm watching like 2 or 3 older podcast, and some new ones, a day while at work and just loving them! Like a kid in a candy store when I go through your channel! Loved the Jon Header interview. We rarely get to see him, so appreciate him doing this with you❤️
Im SO glad they didn't do a sequel to Napoleon Dynamite. Its such a fantastic singular film. I was shocked that Canned Heat was in the film for his dance scene. My favourite band.
I would love to see an exploration of what middle-aged Napolean would be. Even if it was a short skit on Funny or Die. It should probably have Al Yankovic included as a easter egg.
1:08:50 John, if you’re reading this, read Algernon Blackwood’s The Wendigo. It’s absolutely terrifying. One of the scariest short stories of all time. And as far as I know it’s never been adapted. I can’t believe a guy like Rosey with all the horror shit hanging on his walls hasn’t ever heard of the Wendigo.
On season 4 of Smallville. Watching it again on Amazon Prime. Make sure they are paying you. hahaha. I just watched the episode where you split into two. Loving the podcast, man. I am sad they do not make you Lex Luther again. You really are the best Lex Luther. My judgement is not clouded by nostalgia, either. It has been so long since I first watched it that it is like watching it again. This is after watching all DCs other shows. Smallville is it. It is DCs best show. I want to see you come tear it up in the new Superman movies. Really give Clark some issues. One can dream.
Just remember Micheal, Mr. Miyagi said no such thing as bad student, only bad teacher. When you we're talking about religion with John, you have to realize you get what you put in, just like therapy. If you would like to take a chance on a specific teacher, Pastor Brian Smith of The First Heavy Metal Church Of Christ is very down to earth, he is also a lead singer in a secular metal band. Peace and love y'all 🤟
Yeah, I've lived in Tokyo for the last 30 years and didn't see ND until just a few years ago. Jon saying "sh%t, unbelievable" in Japanese was very good pronunciation. Unfortunately, there is no way Japanese people would get ND, or even be able to translate it would be impossible. I was born in Corvallis Oregon about 30 minutes from where Jon grew up.
loved the episode! interesting to hear about the work his father did, and all your horror talk! I am wondering if Jon Heder would do voice work. the book isn't done and therefore isn't an animated film project yet. I have a story, and I feel like after listened to this he could bring something special to it. It has a long way to go before its finished but he'd be cast as one of the top characters that has already been established.
This is the first time I’ve heard your podcast(despite being a fan), and I really enjoyed it. I must say that I am always surprised that Jon being fluent in Japanese NEVER seems to come up. Why is that?
It is awesome how Nerdy they made him look for that movie. I also moved from the place I was born at the age of 2. People do ask where you are born and if hey start mentioning stuff about it. You are like, 'ah well, I moved when I was 2.' then an awkward silence like it doesn't matter. "yeah, I was just born there where my soul beamed down from my star position. I mean, what else, right?" Jk hahaha. Now we have the debate on at what time does the soul enter? Does Jon have Japanese soul? From what star system are you! Okay I am done. hahaha.
Heder should get his Dad a little plot on a campground and a camper. Old people love that shit. It's outdoors and bingo and ponds/lakes and people..... and cheap.
Love Jon!!! 😂and check out the movie, “ ALONE “ with Marc Menchaca idk if I spelt that right lol. Came out in 2020.. awesome horror / thriller movie!!!! 🍿 ❤🎉
*_I agree with you on Black Phone. Very lame movie and the trailer gave away the whole movie. If you guys want to see a good Horror movie, you should check out the film RIDESHARE! Great podcast gentlemen!_*
I wish Sara Gilbert and the others on Roseanne would have integrity like Jon Hader and would never have agreed to continue without Roseanne. That was appalling what they did. Roseanne was Roseanne's baby, her own creation and they took it from her and ruined it.

I'd like to imagine it hit you in the face kinda like how the steak hit Napoleon on the bike
Thanks for sharing 👍
gold ... too funny...
This is great 😂😂

Awesome guest!! Napoleon Dynamite is absolutely legendary! Thanks Rosie and Ryan!!
Could you see Jon's character on Benchwarmers was in a sense Napoleon Dynamite 2?
Oh my gosh!! The crystals line is my favorite line!!! 😆😆😆😆I’m always quoting it out of context, but only 10% of the time the other person will get the reference!

Tater tots, chapstick, Tina, Lafonda, Idaho, vote for Pedro, side ponytail, liger. My favorite parts of Napoleon Dynamite

My buddy was in his Boy Scout Troop. He always talks about the positive impact his Dad had on his himself and his fellow Boy Scouts.

How the hell does this not have huge views. These interviews are great

We need a movie where Lex Luthor hires a prodigee. Napoleon Dynamite. Molds him into becoming the ruler of the world. Tots for everyone!
I learned so many things about John Hender, especially about his positive outlook on life and his career ❤ Hé has an amazing family and that helps a lot !! Thanks to you, Michael, i discover enriching stories every time 💙💙🙌🙌
As an eagle scout myself that story was amazing.

So glad you got Jon back on the pod, Love when you both did the patreon for Horror movies. Another awesome episode Michael 👏
Very fun and candid interview between two old friends. Best way to start off this cold and blustery winter day. Thank you . 🙏🏻❤️
wow!! John Heder you have my total love and respect for sharing your faith!! So RARE in Hollywood!!! You are just AWESOME!!
Thank you for the great interview! Now I wanna see Napoleon Dynamite
20:57 lol right, I don't think about crying I think about being on the side of the road with car problems.
Those of us from Preston, ID consider Napoleon Dynamite a documentary. 😄
This episode really spoke to me today, your discussion on pushing yourself to do your best and trusting yourself was awesome to listen to. Thanks Michael, Ryan and Jon you guys rock:)
You were correct Michael Rosenbaum to mock an obnoxious loud talker on his cell. Jon Heder is wrong.
totally
Some people are just down to earth fascinating. Jon Heder is one of them.
Great discussion.
Mr Rosenbaum! 🌹I can't tell you how freakin excited I am to find your podcast! Loving this episode so far. I am learning so much about him. His dad sounds like an interesting guy.
38:00 Sequel talk. Weird because I watched the movie again a day ago then this podcast came out lol
Im SO glad they didn't do a sequel to Napoleon Dynamite. Its such a fantastic singular film. I was shocked that Canned Heat was in the film for his dance scene. My favourite band.
John Heder one of the guest host with Don Johnson during 2010's WWE Raw.
Loved seeing you guys yesterday in Pittsburgh. You were so nice. Thanks.
My dad is dealing with health problems feel ya Jon
He went to the same high school as me(different year) and his dad was my doctor for a few years.
ND lines are our basic vocabulary at my home with my teenage kids...
Loved Blades of Glory
Side note, Jon needs some sleep
Dope interview
I've never cried like I did from when my dad died. It was from my depths.
Just started watching yesterday and iv been watching off and on all day today!!! Love the podcasts!!!!
Jon sounds like a great guy, I'm glad there was never a sequel, one was great and I doubt lightening can strike twice.
I just discovered this podcast and look forward to delving into it deeper! Looks like you get some great guests 💚
I would love to see an exploration of what middle-aged Napolean would be. Even if it was a short skit on Funny or Die. It should probably have Al Yankovic included as a easter egg.
I am super sad that I missed Jon's screening in Elkhart, IN...
I did not realize this is his normal way of talking LOL
Loved it! Wish you could bring back Where have all the good horror movies gone podcast!
Tell Jon to check out "Antlers" if he hasn't already seen it. Since he was talking about Wendigo movies this might be up his alley.
I harass my children with “EAT THE FOOD TINA!!!” when they’re being fussy about what’s in front of them.
1:08:50 John, if you’re reading this, read Algernon Blackwood’s The Wendigo. It’s absolutely terrifying. One of the scariest short stories of all time. And as far as I know it’s never been adapted. Really really loved this episode 🙏
I will always remember Michael Rosenbaum in urban legend saying any hoo I had never heard of that saying till that movie it has always stuck with me
On season 4 of Smallville. Watching it again on Amazon Prime. Make sure they are paying you. hahaha. I just watched the episode where you split into two.

I have good friends who are Mormon, this is not an unusual story. Great group of people.
Psyched! Loved Jon in Just Like Heaven and Blades of Glory.

Favorite part of Tuesday 💙🤘
I wish Napoleon Dynamite would have a sleepover at my house.
No way! Me and my twin brother were made in Japan! I always gave my Mom gruff about not birthing us there so we could have dual citizenship.
Awesome Love your pod cast
Where is the paranormal investigation show you guys were working on????
Cool to see Jon Heder! Loved him in ND and Surf's Up 1! Any chance of getting Gary Oldman?
56:41 where he talks about will Ferrell

Can’t wait to listen/watch this one!! Thank you Michael ❤ Hope you have an amazing week!! ^_^
Happy Tuesday 💙

There were a lot of moments where I thought Heder was more like uncle Rico in the face, beard and eyes at times to me maybe just a bit.
Haha I freaking love this show!!! 😀 keep up the good work fellas 👏 👌 👍
The thumbnail John looks like the actor who plays Uncle Rico
The Black Phone, lackluster? I disagree. That was my 4th favorite movie of the year!
loved the episode! interesting to hear about the work his father did, and all your horror talk!
I am wondering if Jon Heder would do voice work.

8:18 it is not the Silver Beaver. It is the Silver Buffalo.
This is the first time I’ve heard your podcast(despite being a fan), and I really enjoyed it. I must say that I am always surprised that Jon being fluent in Japanese NEVER seems to come up. Why is that?
Jon needs to be in the next Avatar.
What do we have to do to get a sequel to Poolhall Junkies?
A decent movie about a Wendigo was Antlers.
love ur work Michael, my fav live-action Lex Luthor
john talking about the look from his dad reminds me of the im just disappointed line. damn that sucked
It is awesome how Nerdy they made him look for that movie. I also moved from the place I was born at the age of 2. People do ask where you are born and if hey start mentioning stuff about it. Love Jon!!! 😂and check out the movie, “ ALONE “ with Marc Menchaca idk if I spelt that right lol. Came out in 2020.. awesome horror / thriller movie!!!! 🍿 ❤🎉
I love technology.
*_I agree with you on Black Phone. Very lame movie and the trailer gave away the whole movie. If you guys want to see a good Horror movie, you should check out the film RIDESHARE! Great podcast gentlemen!_*
I enjoyed The Black Phone. Personally, I don't consider it a horror movie. Iit's got the elements, but I'm more inclined to call it a Drama.
Today's lesson... Never rent a movie for $19.99. Just buy it for $22 digitally.
Or stream it for free
You should get Will Friedle on
Woooo!!
If you do cameos could I get you to do a small voice acting role in a short story i am producing?
Love Jon. Funny dude. Wish him well.
I wish Sara Gilbert and the others on Roseanne would have integrity like Jon Hader and would never have agreed to continue without Roseanne. That was appalling what they did. Roseanne was Roseanne's baby, her own creation and they took it from her and ruined it.
SO, BASICALLY!...
Jon, if by some miracle you see this comment abd you want to see a "wendigo" horror piece. Play Until Dawn. Great horror story in a video game
