Hey! Thanks for the review, we just started looking at this mower as we are already in the makita LXT ecosystem. Have you seen the 2021 model yet, or have any thoughts? It’s xml09pt1, vs 8. I only see an aluminum deck, vs steel, but it’s $300 more! Thanks, appreciate the in depth review.
Interestingly Einhell/Ozito sell an *identical* - down to the catcher - mower. The Makita sells their mower at a substantial price premium but the real killer is the Makita 18v batteries are priced more than double the equivalent Einhell/Ozito battery.
Seems like that side discharge is the weak point. Hit anything with it and those plastic hooks will snap. Also, when using the side discharge there is a clump left because the discharge doesn't allow the clippings to be duscharged clear if the mower.
The best deal I have seen for this Makita lawn mower kit with the charger and four - 5ah 18v batteries is $849 or $250 more than the Ego 56v select cut lawn mower kit with 7.5ah battery. I would buy this Makita lawn mower if this kit was priced at $600.
Agree on the handle, takes space in garage. Bought a new gas Toro with the Smart Store just for that reason. Like the two handle system for the drive and blade on that mower. Just not ready to go fully to the electric wave of yard tools.
“Cut an hour-probably over an hour”. Come on. These makita mower reviews are a laugh. I have this mower and an hour is a fantasy on the four batteries. Also the self propel may “cook” on the sidewalk-it does. But when the battery is getting low the self propel is very lethargic. Accelerates very slowly and top speed drops down to 2 mph while cutting (yep, I measured it). This does 3 mph on fresh batteries but loaded, non-fresh 2/3 the speed while actively cutting.
I can’t remember the brand but it came out several years ago. It was a battery mower that would go out and mow the yard itself. Totally automatic even came back to a charging station and parked to charge when the battery was low. I don’t know if it’s still a thing but id like to see another one come out from one of these big name companies
I just bought this mower and like it. But frankly the operators manual really sucks. So thank you for this clear tutorial. Very helpful. And I agree it needs folding handles.
It's targeted towards commercial use. Makita did research and found that no one folded the handle, they loaded in the trailer and went to the next job. This way you get a more solid handle as well.
I get what you are saying about the battery indicator lights needing to be green but every power tool battery indicator I’ve seen is red. I think that’s just a standard for that lol 😆
5 things that can make this better. Foldable handle not having to switch between the set of batteries being able to charge the batteries while in the mower Better designed throttle switch better designed self propelled switch (something similar to Ego's)
Is there any maintenance that should be done on a regular basis. How about long term storage. I bought the non self-propelled model for my mom's quarter acre lot. Will use it twice a month for four months. Then stored until the next cutting season. Like that I do not have to keep gas in her storage. And don't forget have to transport my mower just to cut her grass. Just have to stop by fire it up and 40 minutes later done. Blow off the driveway and sidewalk with the battery blower. One glass of ice tea and I'm on my way home.
@@toolboss8410 You got me totally digging Makita now. Im still a Milwaukee man but I like the blue too! I just need a hedge trimmer for around my house. I think might go with the 22" Makita. It's $129 bare tool at home depot.
Nice vid. I should get the Dlm533 aluminium 21 inch self propelled this week on order. But down here in Australia it’s all most winter here and lawns have stopped growing but watching this vid can see the Quality in the machine... very nice battery mower.
The constitution of the mower is outstanding the power you get from two 18volt batteries is amazing. Be good if makita came out with 9ah or 12ah batteries. Theses ones down here have 4 swig back blades on a disk same as the Honda mowers down here.
Several places currently have this Makita XML08PT1 kit right now for $699, free shipping. Kit includes mower, four 5Ah batteries, and dual rapid charger. You won’t find this any cheaper than it is right now. It’s an excellent mower!
From SlickDeals, a number of Home Depot’s around the country have this combo for $350. The catches are: 1) the store needs to have them in stock, and 2) you probably need to talk with the manager. There are photos on SlickDeals of boxes with the $350 price. My local HD’s had no stock items, but I did get my 10% veteran’s discount. $630 is still a good deal, if not a GREAT deal.
until all the electric mower come down on their prices, i’m still gonna be using my 20 dollar mower from walmart. It’s crazy how these electric mowers are in the $4 to $5 hundreds
I would take a guess and say since it’s a more standard size of 21 inch it would be very possible to have a normal blade. Also it’s 36 volt so it has more power to get the mass of the heavier blades going. Again I don’t know just a guess.
You be good .. designed for high temperature locations ..now if you let lawnmower sit outside for 4 hours in 100 temperature and everything is hot as hell already ,you may have a issue

The world's longest 5 minute video. I felt like a 5 year old having to be told everything 3 times.
+1, had to skip through so many parts, and ended up just stopping the video.
First thing that comes to mind. It doesn’t need a 10mm for assembly 🤦♂️
When you ran over buddy's foot and the flip flop came off. 😂

So if u had to pick ...this one ..or the ego ? Which one u take
Depends .. lots of factors to consider
A huge factor is if your in the Makita platform. I imagine having extra batteries is a plus.
Tool Boss do you still have the makita LXT????
Great mower BUT too expensive and handles don't fold down.
Agree on the handle, takes space in garage. Bought a new gas Toro with the Smart Store just for that reason. Like the two handle system for the drive and blade on that mower. Just not ready to go fully to the electric wave of yard tools.
You will ..there amazing now brother and keep getting better

Awsome mower, but way too expensive here in germany. It cost well over 900€ without any batteries.
🤙🤙👍👍🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
I wish Dewalt’s mower was as good as this one.
I love Dewalts mower 🤙👍👌

There's a bunch of those on the market. Off the top of my head I know of, Robomow, Workx, even Makita has one.
They all require boundary wires. A couple of companies are trying to bring wire free ones to market.

Just got one for 400 bucks. This thing is a beast. The build quality is unmatched. There is no doubt this is built like a tank
Did you get this one (XML08PT1) for $400? Where?
Great video after watching I just bought this the other day, your 100% right on the handle it needs to fold.
It's targeted towards commercial use. Makita did research and found that no one folded the handle, they loaded in the trailer and went to the next job. This way you get a more solid handle as well.
@@shanew7361 HRX is residential HRC is Hondas commercial model and the handles do not fold. ( I own the XML09 and the HRX)
Makita has complete fold models available for homeowners
Dang that grass was pretty tall and that thing ate right through it

Is that the new sub compact stubby i spy??
Indeed 🤙
5 things that can make this better.
Foldable handle
not having to switch between the set of batteries
being able to charge the batteries while in the mower
Better designed throttle switch
better designed self propelled switch (something similar to Ego's)
in-mower charger just adds unnecessary weight and unneeded complexities.
That non folding handle is a HUGE deal to me. HUGE! I think they'll change it, eventually.

Nope .. just change or sharpen blade .. dont leave batteries in mower ever . Always keep them indoors
Hey Boss which cordless hedge trimmer would you recommend? Im on Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita platform.
makita all the way ... shouldn’t even be a debate
If ur looking for best the new Makita 18v ,but if u don't use much and don't want to spend a fortune the Dewalt is half price 👍

Check strokes per min on that one ..dewalt is 2800
Very nice
Hope all is well buddy 🙏😊👍
Makita please make a mower which isn't self propelled
They do. .this mower comes with push model
I just looked and every battery powered makita mower is self propelled unfortunetly...
Whats the name of the push model of it?
i hope to see more tall grass videos with it is it worth buying Tool Boss???

Yeah the price is a little bit ridiculous
Just paid 599.00 for the EGO 2135 well worth it to me. I’m done with gas. (For now at least)
Michael C. Sobczyk
might as well add another $500 and get the ride mower, yr practically half way there .
ggf cfhvyy I cant justify a riding mower for my yard. Just too small.
Is the blade like a gas mower or thin like the other battery mowers? (Other than toro)
I would take a guess and say since it’s a more standard size of 21 inch it would be very possible to have a normal blade. Also it’s 36 volt so it has more power to get the mass of the heavier blades going. Again I don’t know just a guess.
It’s thin. I have this mower. Also no high lift blades available.
Makita mower put together with ridged impact while wearing a Milwaukee tshirt, tool sexual lol great video boss! That mower looks really sweet!
👍👍👌🤙🙏
I wonder how would this handle with Florida heat or desert heat where the cover won’t let the battery breathe.
