New Adventures of Mighty Mouse - No Fun

- I guess some folks didn't like The Real Ghostbusters. Or anime. In this clip, four Peter Venkman clones use their angular anime soullessness to destroy cartoon fun. Ouch.

"This scene was mostly designed by Kent Butterworth, who later went on to help develop Teenage Mutant Turtles, The Simpsons and produce and direct the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog in the early 90s."
If it makes it even more obvious, Butterworth also worked on "Robotech: The Sentinels" which I'm sure gave hin the inspiration for this scene.
Disappointed that none of these guys (except for like one person) worked for SpongeBob.
@@kootunesscrewy I'm sure it came down to whether they were available to work for Nickelodeon a decade or two later or not.
@@ChristopherSobieniak I guess...
But hey. At least the guys behind this show later worked for Warner Bros (funny since Daffy actually made a cameo in one episode.)
Love the lawyer-friendly soundalike of the "Ghostbusters" song!
I love that this scene was poking fun at the fact that cartoons around the 80s were starting to be more action pack and more animated and less cheap and limited like the ones from the 1960s to 1970s (Like Hanna Barbera for example).
Busting makes me feel indifferent.
The modern equivalent to this would be if The Patrick Star Show mocked something like Amphibia or The Owl House
(dear god I want that to happen)
I got news
Well they did but it's on a different show that's as popular as those two
This scene looks totally different from the way I remembered as a kid. I don't remember their hairstyles being that wild. The gagbusters weren't drawn as good as I thought I remembered them but the fact that they all sound like Bill Murray totally makes up for it!
Actually, they sound like Lorenzo Music, who played Murray's character in the GB cartoon.. also Garfield.
Real GBs was a successful show!
This scene was mostly designed by Kent Butterworth, who later went on to help develop Teenage Mutant Turtles, The Simpsons and produce and direct the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog in the early 90s.
originally, according to john k. stuff, it says "James said...
How the heck did you parody anime before anyone knew what it was- and make jokes about it that are more relevant today then they were in the 80's?"
The voices 😭💀
Hey Guys, John K wasn't even working on Mighty Mouse by the time Season 2 and this episode came out.. so stop attributing this to him.
Yeah, but he's still an a-hole 🤷
Did Jim Reardon and Tom Minton just assume that all anime took themselves way too seriously? Also, why attack Real Ghostbusters as well? Because it was a cartoon based on a popular movie? Yes, it wasn't creator driven, but J. Michael Straczynski actually tried to put in good writing!
Well Real GB had great writing in the first 2 seasons and got an emmy nomination for a few episodes. Real Station Identification was a great episode that mocked TV shows even He-Man since J Michael Stracsynzki didn't like writing 3 He-man episodes and put it on the commentary of the DVD of the episode and how toy driven some cartoon shows back then were.
And not all anime is bad! Bakshi praised Akira back in 1990.
Yeah, their frame of reference was Robotech, one of the first real, successful examples of dramatic writing in animation that the West got (this was before we got damn near everything imported via Crunchyroll and Netflix mind you) as well as the Real Ghostbusters for being a toy advertising tie-in, which Bahski hated. The idea of animation being something dramatic and mostly action based was just wrong to him, and yes, this is the guy who made the godawful rotoscoped Lord of the Rings, so you tell me if it's hypocritical.
What did you expected something from John. K and his a**hole friends ? Not having ONE jab at something that they hate ?
Dude, we were watching anime since the late 70s but it really didn't get wider exposure until '85 with Robotech. As kids, though, we didn't know that stuff was from Japan.
Also, most of the action animation (GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, The Real Ghostbusters, etc) from the early to mid 80s was animated in Japan.
The audience didn't know it, but U.S. animators did.
Then Akira changed everything when it came to the USA in theaters in late 1989 through 1990
Are the anime characters voiced by Garfield?
Sure sounds like it, except this one's dead inside

@@Klook6950Extras He has a really good Garfield impression in that case
The amount of seethe this causes
The story behind this scene is that John K was poking fun at the fact that most animes weren't funny. He did state that he does like anime though. It's just that most animes (especially at the time) were way too serious with no hijinks or gags. If I had to guess... Robotech... way too dramatic, not a single lulz moment in that mishmash.
John K would destroy MCU's humor
The funny thing is Macross started out as a parody in pre-production before it was reeled in a bit and they took the concept seriously. But yeah, it wasn't supposed to be a knee-slapper.
If he had any credibility left, I bet John K would have loved Panty and Stocking.
" He did state that he does like anime though."
Loli anime no doubt.
@@marko-gj1uj Wouldn't make him any less of a pedophile though.
@@marko-gj1ujWhy the hell would John. K ever care about the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies 😑 ?
Current spongebob needs to do an episode like this mocking beanmouth cartoons
Well i have good news for you
Predicted the future
Ignoring the fact that the Patrick Show recently made a gag poking jab at beanmouth cartoons, what was the connection between Mighty Mouse and Spongebob that had people compare the two like this before that Patrick Show episode even air? This is the 2nd comment ive seen so far that made an eerily spot-on prediction of that happening...

I thought Black Cauldron was a fun PG rated edgy fantasy adventure
I agree with T Wilson. They shouldn't be eliminating on shows like Mighty Mouse or Black Cauldron. They should only be eliminating Terrible Awful shows and movies.
You can call "The Real Ghostbusters" a lot of things, but "unfunny" isn't one of them.
John K just gets butthurt over cartoons that stay on model.
Well some Real GB episodes did had some good writing in scripts
This wasn't made by Kricfalusi. This was written by Jim Reardon and directed by kent Butterworth.
@@yosefdemby8792 That’s right. A decade ago I remembered he worked on the show, but I thought he was in a higher position of power.
He still gets butthurt over cartoons that stay on model.
@@CsBTransition He left the show after the first season.
From what I heard, what Bakshi and John K sort of attacked in the 80s were shows that were based on toys or shows that were butchered versions of older superior ones. And the 80s had a lot of them based on toys, movies, or even celebrities like Chuck Norris, Mr. T, WWF wrestlers and I think this take on Ghostbusters was meant to be what they were making fun of, and since Japanese studios did the animation they decided to exaggerate the anime style here, the anime which were known at the time such as Robotech and Spped Racer were probably models. And the humorless part was probably because the Real Ghostbusters at times was "trying" to be smart than funny and John K had a bit of a problem with that.
TheRennes1997 This comments on the the whole anime popularity. how it has been sucking out the American animation varieties of classic Tex Avery style humor and Fleischer style cartoons in place of following anime trends.
thecooooolcat This was done before that. This was time most animated shows were homogenized with all the toy based shows, shows based on celebrities and rehashed versions of older shows toned to be "family friendly". Those shows sucked out all of the classic Warner Bros and Famous Paramount cartoons, even Garfield made fun of that stuff with the Buddy Bears. I also heard John K had a strong dislike for DIC and claimed that Shrek was influenced by it. If you want my opinion, I got nothing against Ghostbusters, sure it tried to a smart show and a cheap movie tie in, but it had stories based on actual legends and famouos ghosts, it even paved the way for Extreme Ghostbusters that was awesome. Also, I believe most shows that came out in the 2000s especially the adult ones sort of sucked out the varieties of humor mainly because they were trying to be South Park, Family Guy or the Simpsons. But that doesn't mean American animation was or is dry, there has been diversity, there were always good animated shows coming here and there. Homogenization and political correctness and parents groups in my opinion have always hindered something good in animation, mainly because, well I guess I don't have to tell you that, we all know why.
TheRennes1997 Anime popularity was growing in the '80s with Robotech, Voltron, Speed Racer, Akira, and the anime influenced Transformers, also manga like Lone Wolf and Cub and Frank Miller's manga influenced Ronin. Frank Miller explained, "Through a girlfriend Laurie Sutton, I discovered the Japanese comics. That all gave birth to Ronin." In the '80s there were also the cartoons made just to sell toys like the Smurfs, He-Man, Care Bears, GI Joe, Transformers, etc. Now there are the "adult" cartoon shows like Family Guy trying to follow The Simpsons success along with the South Park type hateful bullying immorality. Ralph Bakshi/John K's Mighty Mouse and Ren & Stimpy Show were inspired by the Tex Avery/Bob Clampett style slapstick humor but they were banned due to censors, yet crude tasteless shows like Beavis and Butthead, South Park, Drawn Together, etc. were aired, Bruce Timm's Batman: The Animated Series was inspired by the Fleischer Superman cartoons of the '40s, but now the superhero cartoons are conforming to the anime popularity style.
thecooooolcat
Well, yeah, but from what I heard John K and Ralph Bakshi had other problems than content. Though I don't blame them, I heard things were tough with them behind the scenes. Yeah some networks were fickle, and it seems today they still are.
TheRennes1997 John K explained that Mighty Mouse was canceled by spineless CBS because a Donald Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, accused the show of having Mighty Mouse snorting the narcotic cocaine, which was actually the remains of a flower that had been crushed, Mighty Mouse smells and accidentally inhales the flower, which is a slapstick sight gag. John K was fired by soulless Viacom/Nickelodeon from his own creation, The Ren & Stimpy Show, for having Ren the chihuahua hit George Liquor with an oar, which is a slapstick sight gag. Networks are humorless hypocrites and the enemies of creative art.
Was that Lorenzo music doing their voices?
Maybe or it could be Frank Welker?🤔

Also, Kent Butterworth did a great job on directing the second season of this show (including this episode), plus the writers really knew how to make good jobs at how boring some of the 80s shows were

animaniacs never have anime parody,
the spooktacular new adventures of casper never have anime parody,
earthworm jim never have anime parody,
and woody woodpecker never have anime parody except mighty mouse the new adventures recently, as I discovered the truth, why is it that the american fans in late 80s always make a parodying anime then later in the 90s that nobody show it on american cartoons have?
I want the answers please
There was an anime parody in the Animaniacs reboot.
Nice!!!
Christ, people, I love John K. AND 80s shows that were animated in Japan (Galaxy Rangers was freakin awesome). What John K makes are cartoons because they're funny drawings. The stuff that doesn't have a humorous drawing style should be called animation. He makes this distinction himself.
What about Akira?
What is this?...
@happyd00dle Real ghostbusters wasn't terrible.
Ironically, they began going downhill after they tried to emulate Tex Avery and Chuck Jones' style with the "Slimer" shorts--the same cartoons John K. loves and wants to emulate. J. Michael Straczynski hated the new lighter and softer approach and quit the show; he came back briefly under a few conditions, one of which was that he would only use Junior Ghostbusters in a script if he could have them hit by a large truck.
i'm...not even sure if that was supposed to be a sarcastic comment.
