I disagree that Jimmy's trauma doesn't match up with his attitude in BB. I think the opening scene this season goes a ways to explain it: he buries it in excess. He envelops himself in the Saul persona, because Saul can handle it. He buys the big McMansion and fills it with suits, golden toilets, and portraits of himself. Gould (I think) said the purpose of that sequence was to show the facade was no longer a facade by the end, that he was Saul inside and out. I suspect we'll find out the events of this last episode were the catalyst for that.
I think that means it became a bigger facade than before. Too much trauma on Jimmy made him building the shield against those horrible emotions stronger by using extravaganza and Saul to hide a scared little guy he is deep down in his heart.
Kim going would be the final straw. A)he won't want to face it and B) if she's no longer there, who is he even being Jimmy McGill for? He can bury that persona and bury all the things he doesn't want to feel with it
Chucks death was pretty much the first hint at explaining it. After Chuck died, Jimmy went from numb to it to not even caring. To the point where Kim had to bring it up in a heated argument. It's been a while since that happened but I don't even think Jimmy cried. This man was his brother, he blew himself up, and yet we still have episodes on this show where Jimmy appears as happy as can be like it never even happened(such as when he first utters the line "Better Call Saul"). He doesn't mention Chuck at all. I think this was the writers way of explaining the first stage of Jimmy's progression into Saul.
I feel like they gonna explain it like jimmy goes full workaholic mode in brba. And after brba he cant run away anymore and has time to think wich is why he seems so down
Remember, just like BB was, at its core, about Walter's descent, and BCS is about how Jimmy became Saul - his own descent. So I think, with all the cartel stuff sort of wrapped up, the rest of the show will be about Jimmy's trajectory. Which means it's also about Kim's trajectory. And the fate of their relationship. They're bad for each other -- or have been -- each pulling the other farther down bad choice road. We know Jimmy continues down that road, but does Kim? I don't think they stay together. I think "So... a happy ending" is a comment on Kim breaking up, going elsewhere, for both of their own good. Kim might claim they'll be happier that way.
I feel like we will see a time jump in the remaining episodes, especially with a four-year gap between BCS and Breaking Bad. Also, I wonder if we will see cameos from Emilio and Tuco's cellmate Skinny Pete.
I’m having to have this huge debate with my brother who claims that “you don’t have to watch BCS to be a BB fan” which I hugely disagree - please like this comment to prove he’s wrong!
I guess I just feel like the Breaking Bad chapter is so important, that how are you gonna do a full arc for Jimmy without addressing and summarizing Walt’s entire downfall, up to the point where they both have to go on the run?
I really hope that somehow, someway, maybe Jimmy will clear Howard’s legacy before he disappears and become Gene. It would make me feel so much better than how I feel now. Poor Howard, buried next to his murderer. This it s show is me and my wife’s favorite. Cannot WAIT to see where it goes!
I disagree about not being able to see BB Saul as a haunted man. A) we only see snapshots of him and b)its like with Chucks death, Jimmy is too shallow to allow himself to feel anything at all. He'll double down on the pretense, and if being Jimmy McGill means having to feel things and to hurt (he still hasn't let himself feel about chuck) he will just stop being Jimmy McGill entirely and fully embrace the Saul Goodman persona he created. Especially if Kim is gone(something else he will want to hide from rather thsn feel) who is he still even being Jimmy Mcgill for? He'll bury Jimmy away.
And he will keep himself busy by doing works as Saul That’s why when he finally became Gene, all of his grief resurfaced stronger than ever because he wasn’t as busy as before so there’s no distraction to shield him from feeling those horrible emotions.
Alright. Calling it here. Last few episodes in Nebraska, Gene takes care of the taxi guy, and then he finds himself being stalked by a zombie Lalo and a Zombie Howard. Then we get a flash forward to Saul Goodman walking up to the commonwealth from Walking Dead. Boom. Crossover confirmed. Saul saves the walking dead crew in the final season.
And I just saw a recommended article in "my pocket" reader, that The Ringer named the 10 best tv shows of 2022, and Better Call Saul wasn't one of them? WTF?
Thing is, Vince has said many times that this show was mostly run by Peter Gould and crew. Vince even said he was hands off in the writers room after like season 3 or so and he finally wrote an episode for season 6.
Excellent job, guys! Ok... First things first. It's my first time watching you two and I gotta say I love how much you (Chris Ryan) look like a young Keith Mars here. And of course, we know Keith's got major connections to BCS ;) So... There's one thing said here that I really, really have a different take on. @ 3:36: "There's really not a lot else for them to do in this current Albuquerque moment..." Uhh... Except to collect on what they've been working on for the whole first half of the season; and what Jimmy's been working on for nearly the entire series: The Sandpiper payout!!! It was gonna be a life changer before they became responsible for Howard's death, and it'll still be a life changer. The whole idea was to get Sandpiper settled fast. Boy is it gonna settle fast now. Like probably immediately, right? But now that Jimmy and Kim are even more closely tied up/into Mike & Gustavo because of this whole Lalo/Howard scenario/event, it changes what could/will happen w/ that money. What can you say, really? The greatest work ever produced for television.
Jimmy has been side eyeing Kim for a season and a half, not believing her willingness/eagerness to do some of the things they have done.. Many see her posture after Howard's death as her about to have a nervous breakdown. I think it's the opposite. She is about to break bad. The teaser of jimmy telling someone not to come back for more money is not Jeff, its Kim. Curious that none of the Gene scenes have him reminiscing about her.
Excellent recap. Loved the episode, like every episode before it. Can't wait for the Walt and Jesse cameo. BTW is Andy related to Glenn Greenwald? He looks and talks like him.
My geuss is that they will explain the happy saul from brba like he is going full workaholic mode to not think about the stuff that happend with hamlin, and in the black and whites everything gets to him cuz he has time to think, cant run away anymore
Gus will kill Kim. Just realise that Kim knows too much now. She knew Lalo, she know where Gus lives (kinda), she has seen the faces of all the men at Gus house, including Victor. We know that Gus doesn't like loose ends, just look at Werner Zieeeeeeeeeeegler.
Then why wouldn't he kill Jimmy? Jimmy knows more than Kim about Lalo and what happened in the desert, it would also be the definition of a loose end to only take one of them out. Gus would take them both out if that was his plan. Plus she has never seen Gus and has no idea who he is, as far as she knows she was sent to shoot someone else entirely
I doubt it. Kim had no idea who she was supposed to kill (neither had Jimmy). They were told to drive to that address and shoot the person that opens the door, a person that “kind of looks like a librarian”. And she also never saw Gus' face, only his body double
I always assumed the show was going to end with him meeting Walt in his office to talk about Badger. Maybe thats just how the New Mexico part ends and the rest of the show is the flash forward in Nebraska
I knew sending Sal or kim to Gus’s door was a set up. Once at the laundromat and Gus showed up .. i knew the hidden gun was gunna come into play. Great episode yet a little predictable.

Kim will hang herself in a closet. In BB when Walt visits Saul in his office to discuss Skylar's infidelity, Saul makes a comment to Walt saying for him not to hang himself in a closet. Saul then leaves the office and sits in his car in deep thought. Reflecting on what he just said. Very strong foreshadowing the writers probably could use prior to Kim ever even being a character.
