OK RESONANCE!!! A lot of people have only heard of Dionne Warwick after the height of her career and her damaged voice from smoking but they forget how incredible of a vocalist she was. You can tell where Whitney was influenced her mother and her cousin Dionne. Dionne during her heyday had one of the best voices of all time.

What's even more impressive than some of them belts is how she can pull back on the power and volume of belts and high notes in chest voice. It's really beautiful because you can tell how careful she is. It's easy to let loose and just shout and scream every high note or belt. Her control is perfection

Dionne is a singer with a slightly odd sound. Sort of crackly. Totally appealing! I think her technique and style were among the best. Wonderful tone, timber and phrasing, unique vocal runs. She's a total original. People talk about the vocal decline she now shows, but they don't talk about what remains--her incredible understanding of working with a melody and judicious service of the lyrics--again, incredible technique.

And to add, age just becomes a disadvantage on any person when they reach the mellow stage, age advances and u can't go against it. Dionne has been smoking but not even once has she failed to perform, she just has this emerse breath and energy u can't compare, that is why even today at her very advance age she still sings.❤

I wouldn't even ever say her voice was damaged from smoking! She sang like THIS full power resonance and range for 3 to 4 decades. Of course it's drastically less now she's quite old and you can't sustain the same sound and range forever.

I would really say Whitney’s style of belting and songs themselves is much closer to that of Dee Dee Warwick. Whitney’s friends are on record saying that Dee Dee was her ‘hero’ too, so it’d make sense. Check out live clip of her singing ‘Thank God’. You’ll see it there.

Only a fool would underestimate Dionne Warwick. Sure, she's considered an Alto or Contralto but Dionne can actually out-belt many sopranos in chest and mixed register.
Also, Dionne has always been wise enough to hide her power and range at the start of every performance, exposing these vocal hallmarks only in key moments to amaze the audience.
Although her cousin Whitney Houston is regarded as the most vocally powerful female singer in history, Dionne - during her prime - actually had a wider belting range than Whitney. Watch.
