It’s important for people to understand that the very quick scene where he’s thrown across the screen- flying from the exploding helicopter onto a moving train - is probably one of the most iconic action sequences of the 90s, especially since after 1996 (with Goldeneye coming out soon) you’ll notice every action movie such as Matrix and moving forward, were influenced by that exaggerated, explosive style.
You can tell because the scene is so fast and beautiful...they made sure it was groundbreaking. and it still looks amazing today. Awesome movie.
yess
Goldeneye came out at Christmas 1995. That was six months before Mission Impossible came out.
@@GabeGX correct!
It looks so real and even if you know that it is impossible, you start to believe that it is possible
They didn’t win the Oscar, but between Mission: Impossible, Twister, Star Trek: First Contact, Dragonheart and Mars Attacks!, Industrial Light & Magic truly owned the VFX space that year and delivered incredible and diverse creations.
The beginning of an iconic franchise
Of course tom cruise is a risk man
By the time this movie came out, the Mission: Impossible franchise was 30 years old.
Totally not the beginning.
Not even close to the beginning, you couldn’t be further off 😂
More like a revitalized 60s concept that was awesome and made it amazing on its own right
I don't think any MI can top this first one. None. Cruise is loose and has this natural mischief in his eyes and smiles. The way he talks with Max, the performance is unparalleled. The exposition and cut done between him and Phelps when the latter tells his side of the story or rather lies and Hunt sees through it is very interesting and well done. There are just iconic scenes after scenes after scenes with ample freshness. The actions are good and so are the dialogues. It's just superb.
@MagicCarpetRideShareProject The original MI was 1hr50min short while the latest Dead Reckoning is 2hr43min long. It's like let's give the audience everything and anything just to be sure. Filmmakers just don't have confidence in their craft in storytelling. I remember watching some promotional material about the come back of the Kittridge character. Man was it a let down or what? The dialogues between Hunt and Kittridge in the fishbowl restaurant were so well written, delivered and filmed it was an instant classic. The new one? not even close.
Who's here after the Dead Reckoning Part One trailer?
Me
Yeahh
Hahahaha
Lol me
me...
I remember this like it was yesterday, my favorite MI film! The scene where Ethan Hunt says absolute silence, the entire audience was so quiet. Just goes to show you back then Tom Cruise was a real powerful force in Hollywood!
Let's face it he still is. The actual A-list actors is very short nowadays. They don't have the charm and gravitas they had back then.
@@MrE.888 very few people have that nowadays.
Still is
He's one of the few actors that still is. He's the reason we got Top Gun Maverick.
Was? He’s still is 2 decades later. Look at Top Gun Maverick and the rest of MI films, all box office success.
This movie still holds up after so many years!
It is timeless cult classic. Even on the last days of human existence, people will remember MI (1996).
Of course it does, movies rarely get better with time.
What does it hold up? 🤔
Of course it does, it's a De Palma film.
@@AoiHeartStranger his career is practically dead right now after a few gigantic turds a few years ago, I wonder what happened, he was a bonafide amazing filmmaker.
The MI theme always give me goosebumps.
Who would’ve thought that a simple tv show from the 60’s would become a film franchise of 8 films with Tom Cruise at the heart of it all. It was a freaking 60’s television series that everyone hardly knows about! Amazing!
The original Mission: Impossible TV show is a lot of things, but simple, it's not. It's a very clever and intricate show. And saying that "it was a freaking 60's television series that everyone hardly knows about!" is pushing it, considering that it was popular enough to warrant a film adaptation (Paramount tried to make one for years before Tom Cruise did his stuff) and even outlasted the original Star Trek by four years and got a revival in the 80's. The whole reason why Cruise made his film was because he enjoyed the show and thought it would make a good movie. Taking all that into account, it's not really that "amazing!" If anything, the movie overshadowed its source material, which is really unfortunate.
The original Mission Impossible was a very popular TV show that ran for 171 episodes. The show was revived in the late 1980s for 2 more seasons. MI was a popular TV before being adapted for the big screen.
The tv show was popular, it isn't simple
Everyone but you
Tom Cruise is one of the most iconic actors in history all his movies are good. He would make a good Batman , Superman, 007 actor no doubt.
No. He wouldn’t. He would be a terrible Bond. He’s too short But I’ll give him Batman. MAYBE.
He CANNOT. Play Superman. Period.
@@agamerscoven James Bond was made for Daniel Craig💖💖
No to all of those
Dramatic acting...
@@Jayjith007 wdym?
0:05 lol Voight looked at the camera
This trailer really gives away a lot. Pretty common for the 90s.
The best film of the saga!
Easily
I had to watch this film almost 5x before I fully understood the entire plot. It’s actually an amazing script that is an underrated film overall.
So do I 😂
Nothing beats that moment when your blood rush and have that adrenaline whenever you hear the MI music theme. it's like being part of the action and you know it'll be a hell lots of fun.
Yes 🔥🔥
The trailer shows the best action scene from the movie :(
This is probably the stupidest trailer ever. Gives away too much. Not sure anyone understands anything, but still why take a chance? Crazy.
@@placeducinema watch the revenge of Sith trailer.
@@placeducinema This is an amazing trailer
lol... it released 22 years ago from your commented moment
@@placeducinema It's a trailer that would've and did get butts into theater seats. It makes the film out to be your typical summer blockbuster action flick, when it's a subdued spy thriller, which would've sold less tickets.
Still the best one in the series. Change my mind.
As a "been here since the TV series" fan I'm siill a little annoyed they turned Jim Phelps into the lead villain though. Still Jon Voight's performance as the "Evil Jim Phelps" was amazing anyway.. lol.
My Personal Ranking: P01 (still the Best) > P05 > P03 > P04 > P06. ...And 2 does not even exist for me.
1000% agreed
@@amolghadigaonkar2114 P03 should be much farther down the list... otherwise, I agree with this ranking. It's so hard to pick a favorite from 4 - 7... they are all so good.
This movie is 27 years old.
Back in 1996, "27 years ago" was the year 1969.
Just a thought.
The first one is the best one cos Brian De Palma directed it.
0:27 jesus that music is so good, never gets old
After I watched dead reckoning part 1 (MI7) am here 💚👌
My favourite Tom Cruiser 🥰
My favorite is Ghost Protocol (4), followed by this one (1) and Fallout (6).
Brian DePalma did the best spy film out of the entire series though (the other movies in the franchise are action films that involve spies, the original is a spy film first with some action scenes). DePalma best director of the franchise and Elfman's score is also excellent.
I loved the suspense and style of this first Mission Impossible. Something which the rest of the franchise has kind of been missing. Then again it is Brain De Palma.
Do you think Brian De Palma could have directed a James Bond Movie
@@vishalnarayanasamy8767 I think he could of done a great job of
directing a James Bond Movie.
I would've loved if he did a third Timothy Dalton movie, since License To Kill was very Scarface-esque
exactly
Best Series
This is still the best MI movie.
i just watched it today and it still holds up really well. I'm surprised people were saying the story was convoluted it wasn't that complicated.
Continue this series. This guy Tom has potential. Hope to see more instalments in this franchise.
What a absolutely fantastic film
Best actor in my all time Love it Tom cruise ❤️❤️❤️🌹
This is the 1st trailer i loved watched on vhs so much
What a classic!!!! Greetings from Finland.
Much respect for you Tom Cruise 👍
This is still the Best 'Mission:Impossible'.
It really feels like you're watching a classic 70's spy thriller, it's shot so well.
25 YEARS of Mission: Impossible (5/22/1996-2021)
a great beginning of an awesome action franchise

@@tshelby5212 IT DOES IF YOU BELIEVE IT DOES
I remember it being mind blowing that a movie could make $45m in its opening weekend.
It heralded a new era in movies

*jesus
1:18 scenes that was cut from the finished movies
In actuality, she was trying to seduce him so he couldn't foil their plans but with that scene it would've been contradictive. So they removed it.
I never got to see this in theaters, but (whatever cut I watched the film in) that scene was left in. odd.
Yeah, i have also noticed that
Yess true
Brian de Palma, thank you.
Timeless. A legend. Seems like yesterday
@yonrobhayia18 i was 17 when this came out. now we are middle aged :(
THE BEGINNING OF THE BEST SPY SERIES FOREVER
I doubt Austin powers would agree.
This mission impossible was the only one that stuck to the tone of the tv series with the eloborate cons, covert tasks, and out-witting the bad guys, surveillance, etc. At least most of it.
Yeah but it put off alot of fans of the show because they turned Peter Graves classic character Jim Phelps into the lead villain.
@@colliric that's y i never liked this movie because it followed the classic show (even the 1988 series), and this film threw the whole "team" aspect out the window. After that, i kind of resigned myself to the fact it become a Tom Cruise vehicle.
@@dfcintron Films 4 to 7 are more like the TV series than the earlier 3 films though. Because they brought in the Team aspect finally.
I love the novel/thriller vibe of the movie. Complicated plot with tremendous action. Best out of the 4 ones I've seen (gotta still watch rogue nation and fallout).
You must watch ASAP, what you waiting ? The new film is awesome just not following the narrative of the last two films, but probably better.
This is got to be a prank! Ghost Protocol, Fallout and now Dead Reckoning part1 are among the very BEST movies ever made
I dislike all of them and I dislike you.
I just watched it on Netflix for the first time in maybe 20 years and this is the best MI movie. A classic. Dead Reckong P1 is the second best of the franchise.
This movie was so exposition heavy, the trailer makes it seem like there is more action that there actually is. It's a slow burn, the train sequence was cool, but after the entire movie I was ready for bed
A movie doesn't have to be all gas and no brakes to be engaging. It's a slow burn to let every detail sink in. Mission: Impossible is a mind game.
Cos its not an action movie, its a spy thriller and funnily enough its the shortest MI film in run time in the whole franchise.
If you love this movie, you have to love this trailer. It goes so hard. It’s so on point with the vibe of the film. A Brian De Palma masterpiece.
Awesome trailer! Awesome movie!
Great movie. One of the first I saw in the cinema, and one of the reasons I fell in love with the whole experience of going to the movies. Just a shame that it was followed up by the toilet that was MI2.
It's weird how M:I-2 was a sort of apology for the overly complex plot of M:I-1, yet now the first M:I is regarded as a classic and now 2 is regarded as the only bad movie in the series.
@@spenser9908 I personally wouldn’t say that I found the plot of the first movie overly complicated. It didn’t help the sequel that the first movie did so well, so the hype and expectations were high. The calamitous score and directing didn’t help, with John (must do every scene in slow motion no matter how ridiculous and tiresome it gets) Woo.
@@ivanmichaels7518 Nah I wouldn't really, but I think at the time that was some of the criticism it got. But it's actually a well told plot and nicely laid out.
Yeah Hans Zimmer's scores are very hit and miss for me. And going from De Palma's classy 70's thriller style of direction to John Woo's Face/Off 90's style nonsense is a bit of a letdown.
1:19 why the kiss scene not in part of the movie
Deleted scene
Great excellent movie 100 star👍👍👍👍👍
Brian De Palma’s best since Scarface
My All time favorite movie wonderful superb great. Tom cruise
I like this Mission Impossible Movie👍😎👫🚗🚙
i saw this movie for the first time a couple weeks ago, and i LOVED it. saw ghost protocol last night and hoping to watch rogue nation tomorrow night.
CXC
Part 3 was pretty good too.
Happy 25th Anniversary, Mission: Impossible!
This awesome music never gets boring
I just bought all the MI movies on 4k blu-ray. Looks super clear
The creative is beyond , the music them is uniqie , iconic scene like fight on TGV , Stole data without touching floor , Europe background is very classic bring back everyone to good time
a perfect form to make return the iconic series in this thrill filled package: action, secrets, treasons over treasons, explosions, latex masks and more, a non stop adventure that makes the adrenaline run, !YEAH¡.
actually the fans of the tv series didn't like that Tom Cruise had all of his team killed off in the opening scene. That's not how you please fans.
Now THATS a trailer
Classic tom cruise
Best trailer ever!
Best impossible episode
The only one in the series with a plot
I've watched all the parts from the franchise except the first one.... I love MI series
Amazing movie can’t wait to watch more!💕
Good older days 😭 seen again I was 3 I watched this in my tablet now I'm 12 some yrs 😭😭😭 😀😀 man oo man
Someone explain to me how I remember every scene of this 20year+ old movie yet can't even remember an approximate plotline of any of the other MIs aside maybe two.
Iconic.
Memorable.
All the others suck
If anyone asks, “what is an action film”, I say - “Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to climb the MI hype-train”.
I choose to accept. 👍🤝
Energetic movie very super
"You have never seen me VERY UPSET "

It took me over 1/2 hour to download this trailer in RM format back in 96 with my 28.8Kbps modem
Oh! Great... I'm not even born on that time😮
Why woukd you download a trailer
It was worth it though, the trailer was great.
@@tshelby5212 during that period, being able to playback a 23sec 144p videos on a computer gets ppl excited. In fact, if you walk into any local computer stores or Future Shop or Business Depot at the time, movie trailers would be what they have playing on every computer.
This trailer will self-destruct and explode in five and a half seconds.
1:38 this guy will appear again in MI: Dead Reckoning #1
Still the best one
So, apparently they're bringing Kittridge back for the next two sequels.
They better not turn him into a baddie. I like that he was only a red herring in the first film, and was just a pen-pushing, but entirely uncorrupt, bureaucrat. It would ruin it if it's now revealed that he's really been the main villain all this time.
Vanessa Kirby's character is obviously going to discover from Kittridge that Ethan helped bring her mother Max down way back in 1996.
I bet she turns on him.
Lestat (Cruise) meets Billy (Voight) 😎👌🎬
This is essentially a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest
lol what. No it isnt.
I like this movie very much,I think this movie is the best of the series.
Little did we know this would become so big. It's now rivaling the new James Bond movies

I'd love to see Max make an appearance in a future film. She'd be retired by now and have a vinyard in the South of France or her own tropical island and a beautiful niece or granddaughter who is a jewel thief or works in private security who intrigues Ethan, helps him, and then rides off into the sunset. It would be so cool to revisit Max.
Her daughter did.
