First real-life Autobahn acceleration / Launch Control test with the all-new 2020 / 2021 VW Golf 8 R (MK8) powered by the range topping 2.0 TSI delivering 320 hp & 420 Nm of torque (total weight: 1551 kg). Of course this car is AWD but it also features a tricky torque vectoring system at the real-axle which not only enables the "Drift Mode" but also seems to have a positive effect on traction in Launch Control mode! That’s the issue this is the top of the range golf so it should be up there with the RS3 and A45s performance wise but sadly golf only give it 320hp

That rear differential really makes the differences in this wet, cold and winter time condition! Was wondered the official time was actually 0.1 sec slower than the predecessor, but it’s actually quicker!

As a Golf 7.5 R Performance owner I would say yes...especially the performance & handling is significantly up👍

What about a remapped 7.5? From a first hand experience in the new Golf 8, the interior is a massive let down. Plasticky and a lack of buttons makes navigating really difficult. The buttons on the steering wheel also make no sense with no answer call button... Take from it what you will :)
@Iron Arm Yeah I use the DSG stick in my MK7 R all the time. Also good to change gears if you can't reach the paddles like when cornering. I love the MK8 exterior looks and performance, but they've cut corners on some materials. But this is better than the GTI which has really cheap black plastic trim on the outside. At least with the R they've gone body coloured metal door sills and gloss black diffuser. But the price is crazy at the moment. For that money you could get a very good used RS3, a pre-OPF one even.

+1. .. Always the very best relevant testing.
Even using launch control, in those conditions and with those tires, hitting 100 kph in 4.4s with 315 hp is truly amazing. You do have to factor in the transmission too. The Golf R had always had one of the better paddle autos for any cars like 60k+ and less down to it’s starting price. And although I’d never choose any automatic over a manual, the golf r’s trans being able to shift so fast is a big part of that 4.4s time. Quite impressive.
Golf 7 R's often had 330hp instead of 300 so I wouldnt be surprised to see these actually having close to 350

I doubt there's gonna be significant improvement with better conditions. haven't seen any grip issues besides cold weather is good for engine performance.
Ich denke bei besseren klimatischen Bedingungen und Sommerreifen ist eine 0-200 Zeit von 15 Sekunden möglich.Bin kein VW oder Golf Fan,aber dennoch:Hut ab!
Bleibt spannend, vielleicht kriegen wir den ja nochmal im Frühjahr/Sommer mit Sommerreifen.

Get a stage 1 remap. It’ll take your car up to nearly 400bhp and zero to 100 in under 4 seconds.

You can clearly see that R begins to gain on him once it pass 200km/h. Mk5 was going its top speed around 200km/h.
