We had a green camper one, no cots. Mid 70's dad bolted my "safety seat" on top of the engine cover 🥴😄 they traveled to Yellowstone with my perfect view at 3 y-o

I had a 61 Econoline. Loved it. It was rust bucket but the engines were great. Noisy on bumps. Had a lot of fun in it and it hauled a lot. They were very dependable. I remember the smell of them. They all had that familiar Econoline smell.

Wow, years ago my dad bought a 65 Econoline E200 cargo van with loading doors on all 3 sides, a 240 inline 6 and 3 speed column shift. Fun to ride in. Nearly impossible to find today.

Cool.... I had a 1960 van. Oh, the lever in the floor right when you open the passenger cargo door is suppose to have a rod that runs to the door. so when you open that door, the step comes out automatically. I loved that old van! Have fun!

oh my, the memories this brings me. I changed a clutch in the pouring rain on mine in 71. while I was at it I did a tune-up. brand new points and plugs. The only time I got wet was plugging in the extension cord to the front porch of the house. It got the nickname "vantage point"
Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Louisiana.

My second vehicle was a 1966 Dodge short wheelbase van. A little custom paint, some mags and a carpeted back end with a bed and I was set. I kept that thing through high school and college and had some great memories. Thanks for the flashback. If I had 20 bucks to my name, we were headed to Myrtle Beach for some fun in the sun.

Love those old Econoline's.. 1972 my buddy Billy (RIP) returned from the Vietnam War and bought an old Ford Econoline van. We cleaned that thing up and painted it as an American Flag. We had great memories in that old van. Lot's of real Patriots loved it and he got a lot of attention with it. Local news, local media, local magazines etal. Great times back then when we were one Nation loving our Country. HooAh !!

I got a uncle that had 1 just like it in the mid 80’s. It had a 6 cylinder that smoked like a freight train. The motor couldn’t have been more oily if you dumped 5 gallons of oil on top of the valve cover. He drove that thing every where . Check the gas and fill up with oil.

Very neat vehicle. My employer in the mid sixties bought a window van (looked just like yours, but just a truck) It had the 240 engine, I believe. I drove it on service and installations for five years and around 150,000 miles. Zero engine or transmission problems, only thing we needed was a brake job, and front end rebuild, pus the usual tires and oil changes. Always started no matter the weather, and comfortable to drive. Traded it in on a new Chevy in 1969, which was a constant headache. That one had an automatic and base V8, and was a constant headache. Tranny went out during the first two months. Turned out that an oil passage wasn't drilled! Probably means some other customers had the same problems...units built before the machine setter replaced the broken drill bit!

The window vans were not Econolines. They were called Falcon Club Wagons. I built a couple of custom Econoline vans in the 70s when vans were the cool thing. I also customized a couple of Econoline pickups. The Falcon Club Wagons were good for parts.

Cool! Had three of them in the early 70's. But no pop top. Easy to work on. You could change your plugs and tune ups on a rainy day. Would leave the hot box lid unlatched in the winter for heat. Going down the road, the lid would hover up about an inch. We had van life back then.

Your initial problem of it running a few seconds and dying COULD be a bad ballast resistor.
At "Crank" the coil gets primary voltage bypassing the ballast resistor. The engine will run till you go from "Crank" to "Run". Then,if the ballast resistor is broken, the coil gets no juice.
The coil runs on 9.6 volts The resistor drops the voltage to 9.6. They do that to compensate for cranking voltage drop. During cranking, bypassing the resistor, the coil gets 9.6 volts.
This may not be the problem but its a good bug to understand,

Well, I'll be ..in 1970 I bought a 1964 Ford Falcon Van with a 144 cu.in. 6 cylinder and a Dagenham 4 speed on the column. It was Orange (Surge Company) so I painted Harley Davidson logo on the sides and back door. It was pretty worn out, but at 18 years old it was my home away from home. Cool Video! I grew up camping with my family in a white 1964 Ford Econoline Travelwagon from 1964-1970. It was the best/worst vehicle my family ever had. It was almost as gutless as the classic VW microbus, but boiled over alot on grades and had to be accessed from inside the cab to fill the radiator. This was a hot, stinky and inconvenient proposition. My Dad believed this was largely caused by aftermarket air-conditioner installed by the dealership that had the AC condenser installed in front of the radiator (it was supposed to have factory AC). Also, it only got 8-10 MPG which ultimately caused my Dad to unceremoniously trade it in for a 1970 Ford Cortina stationwagon. I would sure love to see one in-person now!
