Man, you have no idea of the joy of these abandoned and forgotten affections, suffering from the sadness of loneliness, that you bring back to life and work. I speak for them: Thank you very much!
We really appreciate that!! We hate to see them neglected and love bringing them back! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! 😊😊
It always amazes me how "little" work you'd need to put in these vehicles to keep them on the road, but instead they are thrown in a backyard, in a shed or in the woods forgotten for decades. I'll never understand why people do that. Thankfully there are guys like you and your dad that take them out of their graves and make them roadworthy again. Cheers from Argentina!
Man I love you guys brings joy to watch you guys all together 🙏🏻 the part when your little girl bumped her self on the drive and y’all laughed all together was heart warming!
I see great potential for your Ford van. That 3 on the tree sure does take me back. Reminds me of a 73 bronco I bought back in 77 which was used, abused and rusted by the time I bought it. It was my first transmission rebuild. Thankfully I was able to purchase the good old Chilton manual for the transmission rebuild.
This brings me back to the days of the early and mid 90s to early 2000's when I was in bands and we would find any old forgotten van, bring it back to life, build a loft in the back so you could have a bed over your amps and drums, then travel around the states on tour playing any crappy dive which would have you.
Like everyone else here, I would really enjoy watching future episodes of bringing this old van back to life. I think this is a really cool rig that has a lot of potential. And how funny was that when you shot your dad through the brake line with compressed air and made him scream? 🤣 I had to rewind and watch it again. Love the channel, you guys are great and keep up the good work. Thank you!
Man, that thing looks great with those wheels. Kudos to you guys saving this thing, cause it’s pretty solid underneath the rough paint job. Now the steering is a little interesting but hey, gives it character lol. Looking forward to the next installment of this series
Thank you!! We can’t wait to do more! That definitely needs to be addressed 😂 Thank you so much for watching and coming along with us on this rescue!! 😃
Hope you can get the steering issues straightened out. I would like to see this project go further. The van looks to be in decent shape, and it would make a great 1970's custom. Heck you already have the wheels.
Really enjoy your videos and the van is kick ass..You never find them anymore and as a collector and restorer I know for a fact these things are hot hot hot..It's not because they didn't make many it's the fact that people abused them beat them up wrecked them made hot rods out of them or they just rusted in two.For having an all original drive train and not a total rot box she's a keeper.Love those vans.Great video great work
Great progress. Love those slots. This thing is begging for a dark brown metal-flake paint job with some yellow and cream stripes. And, I've lived in this area my whole life and I've never even considered looking out for scorpions.
One of the things I really like about this channel is it shows newbies how the work can be done without all of the fancy tools. As for the bushings for the idler arms, if you have access to a lathe you can make the bushings. The dimensions can be gotten and the material such as polyurethane can be gotten from various sources. Even bronze bushings can be made with grease slots which can be added with a dremel, and grease zerks added with a drill and a thread tap. I have made bushings before, and its not that difficult with a lathe, but is way harder if all you have is a drill....but it CAN be done. It would be cool to see the previous owners reaction to seeing it roadworthy again.
Sweet! Good times... great to see the vans out and about... the kombi is my reference for pretty much everything. A couple years after i moved out of home as a teen, i bought a kombi, had it fixed up but then bought a workshop manual and learnt how to do most mechanical stuff. I even spent a year living in it, and obviously traveled quite a bit too.... I sold that kombi when i went overseas. Now i bought me a splitty a couple years back. Shes a bit rough but i love it.
My kombi has almost as much play in the steering as your Econoline has! Down here in Brazil they often take that worn main pin, turn it down on a lathe and fit it with cage bearings... then they nick name it ´semi hydraulic´!! lol... I might give it go.
Just wanted to mention for those that don't know, the reason the big pads go on the back of the drum assembly is because of the force balance when the pads press on the drum while spinning forwards. One shoe naturally ends up with a different pressure point area where the friction material is just as effective being smaller vs the rear pad.
I'm loving this build. Machine the parts and fix the steering, do an alignment, sand her, do a lil' DIY paint job, and build out the interior and you have yourself a sweet machine! Awesome project!
Love that little van!!! This might just be my own opinion, but that thing would look GOOD with some shag carpeting and 70’s wallpaper on the walls lol.
Redneck tip, intentionally adjust your tow where it’ll pull to the right a little bit, enough where you have to hold left on the steering wheel. It’ll make it easier to drive until you figure out how you gonna fix it.
Highly appreciate this UA-cam channel. This father and son team bringing back forgotten vehicle's from a day gone by left for naught and putting them back on the road. Thanks gentlemen of Budget Buildz. Would like to more of this van in future videos please.
Awesome i love the fishing at the end, nothing I like better then fishing with my son at the end of a long day, thank you budget biltz for reminding me what's really important in life family,
I love it my dad had a 76 Chevy van that was a old Harley Davidson transport vehicle he was a carpenter so he built shelves it it that wer big enough for us kids to sleep on oh the memories we have of that van ❤
This puppy makes me think of my '70 Super Van with the camper top. Again, I'm not a Ford fan, but it was old, stuck in someone's back yard, and only cost me $300. You need to sort out the little things, get sidepipes and bubble windows, and spray your channel logo on the rear quarters. 👍
In 1982 with a couple of mates, we flew into Los Angeles from New Zealand and bought a 1972 Ford Econoline and drove it all around the USA. When we got to Vancouver we had to replace the idler bushing.
My dad had a van just like this one. His was a a heavy half ton. He pulled a cow trailer with it that had our show cows in it. If we ran out of room in the trailer we would put some calves in the back of the van. We traveled all over the state of Florida with his rig. We must have had really good trailer breaks. When he died last summer I talked about his van in his eulogy. Thanks for your video.
I had a 1974 Econoline back in 88'. Loved it. I actually lived out of it for the summer. A lot of camping and fishing. Put a loveseat in it that I slept on. A couple of lawn chairs and TV trays. Had a great summer. I would love to find one again.
We’ve been fully rebuilding the one we rescued previously and that video will be up soon! We have another really fun boat rescue coming very soon too! 😊😊
That's a special vehicle, love the camper style vehicles Some of the toughest most versatile vehicles and the best investment you can make Great video guys, keep them comming, The best chanel on UA-cam!!!
I´ve got an identical 74´ econoline but 4WD. Absolute monster and always gives me a smile on a sunday drive. Amazing job you did bringing that van to life!
That van is really in remarkable shape, you guys found a good one. It's your van but maybe do all the bodywork and paint it. Excellent video and great work guys 👍✌️🇺🇲
Behind the 911 this is my favorite build your doing. Everyone should experience the classic van at least once. Ive got an 82 G20 work van I LS swapped on my channel.
Do a bed liner paint job DIY. I think they have em in different colors,do floors in the black get some outdoor carpet. It would be cool. Keep up the awesome videos. Ty for it all. Watching ur videos let's me smile sometimes
I had a 1974 Econoline with. 250 - 6 cyl. Great running and driving machine. I used mine as a light moving vehicle and it made me some good money, economical with the 6 cyl. Love the enthusiasm and love of the oldies but goodie’s.
Mr. B. Here ! First time I’ve seen someone not mess with the garbage, doing it right and save time and money! 👍👍👍👍 🧰🔧🛠️⚙️🔩 ! Oh hope to see GMC Home soon!
My grandpa's old '83 F150 had the same steering play in it, it was 'interesting' to drive up to the dump! XD Similar plywood storage in the covered bed, too. Oh, free scorpions, nice! Cleaned up great! It'll make a good driver once that steering is fixed up, could even be turned into a mini-camper!
Woo hoo! Literally one of the best parts of my week! Pray everyone is doing well and that you all have a wonderful week! 💙🙏🏼 Michael..... Messenger! And I bet Pickens County Landfill just LOVE seeing y'all pulling in 🤣🤣🤣 Nice of your neighbor to let you use their pond for that end shot! 💙😊
I'd love to see this customised 70s-style: green, purple or orange paint job, porthole windows, airbrushing, shag carpet, the works! The kids would love it. But definitely need to sort the mechanicals first, that steering looks terrifying!
My friend had one of these in the 80s we had so much fun in HS with that thing... he had a mattress in the back (no more comment). I remember once in the winter the insulation in the dog house caught fire and we had to throw it out the passenger door.
I would sand everything in and out, paint everything dark primer grey, tune it up, fix the vacuum leaks, put an air filter on it, put the fog house back on and ince see t in solar panels, and turn it into a real camper van, with all the cool sun powered stuff Casey LaDelle talks about that's solar powered and get wifi, and make a really cool camper van out of it! Fun video to watch. 😅 Lets fix it up a little more. It would look real cool with a nice paint job, plus some interior and mechanical adjustments. Great job guys.
When I was a boy my Mom brush painted a 1943 Willies Jeep yellow, and it actually looked pretty good. I'd get some cheap white latex house paint and paint her up if it were me👍
That brings back a few memories in my time. Back in the late 70s, I had a 1974 Econoline Van had the straight sixbennett just a worked Van, but of course back then. That is the Coolest Ugly Van. The vans from that era were always cool. Fords Chevys and Dodges. I have always wanted one of the Dodge A100 vans with a peppy 318 under the doghouse or a early 70s Dodge B series with a built 360 with Keystone mags and side pipes with a cool airbrushed graphic on the sides. One day I will find one to build.
Been playing acoustic guitar for 60 years. I have started playing with the superb music you are choosing for your videos. Any chance in the end of your videos you could let the music play for say 3 minutes or so? It would give us guitar players a chance to use it as a backing track and play along. I have been surfing for 60 years as well, and this van brings back a lot of discovery of waves surfed for the first time down in Baja memories in just such a van. Please, your music choice is so great, would you at least think about a long segment at the end so we can jam along? Love the videos, love the music, love all your subject matter. Mostly love the Father and Son aspect. Keep up the good work!!!
The Original Bad News Bears movies circa.1976/ 77.They used two vans like this in the first and second movie. In the second movie the kids drove themselves to the Astrodome . It had the crazy graphics and paint popular in the 70's .

We really appreciate that!! We hate to see them neglected and love bringing them back! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! 😊😊
Finally someone that knows how to pack a bearing on UA-cam. Good job.
😃😃😃

The slotted mags are perfect for this hippy van!!!!
That van looks like it was painted between bank robberies in the '70s.
🤣 doesn't it.
😃😆🤣
Lmfao!👋😂👍this comment is gold!
Explains why it ran so well too. Tuned up performance. Does a few robberies and then is parked in the woods.
Bahaha makes sense 🤣🤣
Man I love you guys brings joy to watch you guys all together 🙏🏻 the part when your little girl bumped her self on the drive and y’all laughed all together was heart warming!

Great job guys! I want to see more of this van. It needs to be sand blasted and repainted 70's style.
Thank you!! 😃 Definitely more on the way 😊
Loving how this van is coming together, and the set of slots is a perfect choice for it! 🥰🥰 Looking forward to the next video on this classic! 🥰🥰

@@BudgetBuildz of course! It’ll be cool to see where the build goes, it’s enjoyable watching you bring an old van like that back to life
Nice job. I would consider that fun. Time for an Italian tune up
Hope you can get the steering issues straightened out. I would like to see this project go further. The van looks to be in decent shape, and it would make a great 1970's custom. Heck you already have the wheels.
We definitely will figure it out, one way or another 😃 That’s the plan! 😊 Thank you for watching and commenting!
You might search McMaster-Carr for some oil lite bushings to replace the worn-out bushings.
Good dirty fun love the show keep up the great work
Thanks so much! 😃
Thanks, for your father an son videos,it means a lot 😢
The van is one of the coolest I have ever seen. It runs so good. I love the look of it

My wife and I love watching your channel keep up the good work.❤
This has to be the new shop van! DIY paint job, channel logo on the back. Have a bit of fun with it.
Redneck tip, intentionally adjust your tow where it’ll pull to the right a little bit, enough where you have to hold left on the steering wheel. It’ll make it easier to drive until you figure out how you gonna fix it.
Thanks for the tip!!! 😃 May have to give that a try!
I owned 1969 and 3 1974 Econoline vans. That 302 3 speed will take a beating. Best service vans ever.
Channel is getting better and better. Great fun without all the BS hype.
Great to see Dad and Son enjoying themselves.
Thanks.

So much fun watching you work on this old van.I used to help paint in my father in laws garage.
YEARS ago.i am 85 now.🎉
That’s a cool van and those rims are spot on. Do some bodywork and a nice black paint job and she would be sweet!
yall guys are a ton of fun to watch
Really glad you’re enjoying!! 😃😃
I love it my dad had a 76 Chevy van that was a old Harley Davidson transport vehicle he was a carpenter so he built shelves it it that wer big enough for us kids to sleep on oh the memories we have of that van ❤
Really enjoyed this one. You still have the best time lapse tune on UA-cam, can't keep my head from bobbin'.
Nice job on getting the van running. I think it would look great in medium gray. Those slotted mags were made for it.

You guys find the coolest rides, from the vw, fairlane, but the wagon and the van are my favorite. Van needs the comet motor😂 great work.
My dad had a van just like this one. His was a a heavy half ton. He pulled a cow trailer with it that had our show cows in it. You should do a boat revival for us! Love your work and family friendly nature.
We’ve been fully rebuilding the one we rescued previously and that video will be up soon! We have another really fun boat rescue coming very soon too! 😊😊
You pick great vehicles to bring back to life!
That's a special vehicle, love the camper style vehicles

The best chanel on UA-cam!!!
I´ve got an identical 74´ econoline but 4WD. Absolute monster and always gives me a smile on a sunday drive. Amazing job you did bringing that van to life!
I grew up in Van's. My Dad had Van's for most of my childhood into my late teens. I love them!!
That van is really in remarkable shape, you guys found a good one. It's your van but maybe do all the bodywork and paint it. Excellent video and great work guys 👍✌️🇺🇲
Great channel live the rescues. That van reminds me of one my uncle had. Definitely needs some l9ve but solid
Definitely gotta make that into a camper van. Road trip it!!

Jack stands on gravel. You folks are braver than I......... I do not miss drum brakes!
That old van fixed up would bring your family so many hours of fun!
Mr. B. Here ! First time I’ve seen someone not mess with the garbage, doing it right and save time and money! 👍👍👍👍 🧰🔧🛠️⚙️🔩 ! Oh hope to see GMC Home soon!
You have a cool job and your the right person for it. This would be junked out if you did come along. 100% better!
Great video; the cow was checking you out there at the end 🤣🐄
Hey Mike, you should save that orange pad that was folded up in the van to use as a mat to lay on as you work under your vehicles. Dan
I'd love to have an old 70s van. Send that thing up to Rock Hill!
My grandpa's old '83 F150 had the same steering play in it, it was 'interesting' to drive up to the dump! XD
Similar plywood storage in the covered bed, too. Oh, free scorpions, nice! Cleaned up great!
It'll make a good driver once that steering is fixed up, could even be turned into a mini-camper!
I love how safe your being with no gloves no face respirator no safety glasses
Woo hoo! Literally one of the best parts of my week! Pray everyone is doing well and that you all have a wonderful week! 💙🙏🏼
Michael..... Messenger!
And I bet Pickens County Landfill just LOVE seeing y'all pulling in 🤣🤣🤣
Nice of your neighbor to let you use their pond for that end shot! 💙😊
Mr. B. Here ! If you can Rack and Pinion swap after market ! Good luck ! 👍👍🍺🍺
Love that van Brother... thanks for another fun, laughter filled vid with pops. We truly enjoy watching you guys on the journey. Ian and Christine.
Very nice work guys.
That green color reminds me of the old ford I drove while working for the phone company, 1978ish. Ma Bell.
I'd love to see this customised 70s-style: green, purple or orange paint job, porthole windows, airbrushing, shag carpet, the works! The kids would love it. But definitely need to sort the mechanicals first, that steering looks terrifying!
I told Cance you guys are like the future of our channel. Where eventually he takes over and I take a backseat. Passing of the torch
Some sanding, primer, more sanding and Rust-oleum Turbo! 👍👍
My friend had one of these in the 80s we had so much fun in HS with that thing... he had a mattress in the back (no more comment). I remember once in the winter the insulation in the dog house caught fire and we had to throw it out the passenger door.
Friend of mine had a station wagon with a mattress in the back. If that car could talk it would ruin more than 1 marriage. Good times was had by all
What a fun video !! I love the down home, honest feel of your channel !!
Another good one 👍👍
Thank you! 😃
I have seen a custom 4x4 version of that model, was really cool looking!👍
On my TV, some of the panels look like the old phone company green color. (My uncle worked for Bell Telephone in NY.) Great job breathing life into it! I agree with the people who think you should make it into a camper van.
That's a really cool van enjoy watching keep up the great work
That was great! Really fun to watch.
This van is a KEEPER!!! Cut the muffler off and let that 302 exhale! PLEASE fix that steering - I think Dad had the right idea, TOO dang dangerous.
Great 9ld van it needs ' Budget Builds 'signwritten on the sides and the bish you can remake with a rubber making kit from Eastwood
Awesome 👌
Fun video to watch. 😅 Lets fix it up a little more. It would look real cool with a nice paint job, plus some interior and mechanical adjustments. Great job guys.
That was an awesome rescue Well done you and dad and thanks for sharing
if you didnt see it you wouldnt believe it ❤❤
I had a '71 Econoline Window 6 cyl van that I converted to a camper. FYI: That front end needs King Pins.
We used to have a 1970 with the double doors instead of the slider, can’t wait to see what you do with it😁😁👍👍
When I was a boy my Mom brush painted a 1943 Willies Jeep yellow, and it actually looked pretty good. I'd get some cheap white latex house paint and paint her up if it were me👍
Awesome van! 🎉
very beautiful old van, keep it going asap, and this is a very good camping van
That brings back a few memories in my time. Back in the late 70s, I had a 1974 Econoline Van had the straight sixbennett just a worked Van, but of course back then. I had to make a hippie Van into it.
Share carpeting Tiffany lights inside.
I it was fun at the time. But living in northern Michigan, it wouldn't fit in my parents garage. So I had to put a black heater in it, so it would start in the winter.
J'aime beaucoup ce que vous faites. Merci beaucoup. Thx both of you.
It's certainly a mystery machine in the making, a new paint 🎨 job a new journey. Have a great day guys take care 🕊🤍👋
Loved this one guys. You're getting better and better. Well done. Don't give up on this one. It's great.
Been playing acoustic guitar for 60 years. I have started playing with the superb music you are choosing for your videos. Any chance in the end of your videos you could let the music play for say 3 minutes or so? It would give us guitar players a chance to use it as a backing track and play along. I love those tires on that van it looks like one of my hot wheels I'm drooling with jealousy!!! 😁
Very well edited video. You guys are two likable guys with skills. Always glad to be surprised by your posts.
