She put both toasters on #6... Knowing that the 200-one would produce way too dark bread, and the 20-one perfect bread. If she did them both at 4, the 200 one would be perfect and the 20 one would be under.

I buy a cheap toaster and just set it higher. You should use the temperature gun to see what temp each toaster is when on the same setting

No, it's not an investment.
Nina I have used a $10 toaster for 5+ years, and it’s still going strong, and works as it should. There is absolutely no good reason to buy a $200 toaster, especially one with only a one year warranty, which means this toaster is expected to break at some point. This isn’t a logical “investment” when you can buy a perfectly good toaster that toasts things the exact same way and lasts years on end for only $10-20. The $200 toaster’s purpose is not to be an “investment”, it’s purpose is to look bougie. You’re mainly just paying for the luxury brand, for a toaster made of *slightly* better materials, all of which have very little effect on how well it toasts bread or how long it lasts. A $200 toaster is a waste of money when you can get the same result with something FAR cheaper, making it the opposite of a good investment. You’re just paying more because it looks pretty, not because it lasts longer.
It’s not an investment whatsoever... you can easily make toast in a dry skillet or in the oven. A toaster isn’t even necessary. I would much rather toast a piece of bread 2 or 3 times in a $20 toaster than throw $200 down the drain 🤷🏻♀️
I'll put in my oven and toast it before I'd spend that much money on a toaster!
Unless it comes with unlimited bread I will stick to the oven or the $20 toaster.

On the 200 toaster you thought the 3 or 4 setting was perfect toast. 6 was darker than what you considered perfect. You should have tested the 200 toaster at setting 3 or 4 to see if you kept getting perfect toast.
That’s what i thought! They didn’t give the same toast at any number! So set them both at what number you liked and then test consistency! I have the black and decker toaster too and i always set it at 4 and it looks more like the 6 on hers! So maybe toaster to toaster black and decker is inconsistent

The "bagel" setting only heats the outside elements so you have to make sure the cut side of bagel is facing out (the top of the bagel facing the inside elements that don't heat up. I noticed she had the bagel in the cheap toaster facing correctly, but wrong on the Smeg so I'm guessing that affected the bagel test!

That's all I would ever see if I owned that. A friend of mine, from back in the day, had a toilet that was made by "Universal Rundle," and they printed their name, in big letters, right on it. So, whenever I used her bathroom, I would see it and automaticlly read it as "Universal Grundle."
it doesn't matter what all the different levels look like. You just find the one you like and leave it on that forever.
You should have turned the smeg to 4, the perfect toast, while leaving the b&d on 6, the perfect toast.

This was bothering me sooooooo much too. If the SMEG had been set to 4, it would have been perfect and probably way better than that B&D. But yes, she did not do the test right because of that. And I would buy the SMEG because a) the POP, b) the metal casing, c) the aesthetic - it is SO pretty, d) more consistent variable toasting

I LOVE my Smeg toaster! When its time to replace my electric kettle, I'm getting a Smeg kettle also. I bought it because it was so cute and I am so happy I did. It works so much better than any toaster I've ever tried.
Mine was a wedding gift from co workers. Its pink and I love it. I got the coffee maker for Christmas.

When I was a kid, we had the stainless steel 4-slice. Making toast for the family would get that thing so hot. The bread wrapper would touch it and leave a decal on the surface. Good times.

I'm laughing at this... I just had a flash-back to yesterday, when I discovered a loaf of bread in the freezer that I didn't even know I had. It was mis-shapen and covered in ice. I ended up fitting every pathetic, mis-shapen slice of bread in my toaster oven to make bread crumbs. Then, since I don't have a food-processor, and my arm was tired from crushing, I starting putting slices of toast in my blender. ...Oh, what a project that was.

I have a cheap Hamilton Beach toaster that has toast tongs and a slot to keep them in, I think I paid somewhere around $30 for it.
That would be me. My studio kitchen has no oven and I like to bake, so I got a toaster that bakes and roasts, in addition to toasting.
When I have a traditional oven, my toaster will be great for big events, like hosting Thanksgiving. Sometimes ya just need help feeding 40 people at once.

Peace Pharvin - unlike some chains like Safeway (and affiliates), which have THEIR OWN COMMERCIAL BAKERY, Walmart bread is always subcontracted to one of the major commercial bakeries by region (I do believe in Puerto Rico is locally-owned Pan Pepin from my hometown, Bayamon)...

Well the #6 setting on the $200 toaster is much hotter than the 6 setting on the cheap toaster as you can see in your first regression run. It would have been more fair to do the $200 toaster on #3 and the cheap toaster on #6 (since 3-5 are basically barely toasted). It could also be running hotter because the outside of it is keeping so much more heat in than the other one too.
I would never pay $200 for a freaking toaster. Toast is toast!!!! Loved this!! 🤣😂🤣

This makes no sense. The smeg toaster clearly gets hotter or the timer is longer hence the over done toast. Lower the setting and i'm sure the toast would come out great. But for $200, total waste of money regardless of quality.
The $200 toaster was set to its maximum, the $20 toaster was not. Both of them should’ve been sent to their maximum temperature for a fair comparison.
The $200 toaster is stainless steel and so it's getting hotter and hotter.
She upped the setting on purpose. The black&decker never toasted the bread more.

I used to work at a very well known grocery store. The microwave ovens they bought for people to use cost like $300 each. Those microwaves were always broken. They did not last as well as the Wal-Mart microwave we had as a backup. Expensive isn't always better.

I have a very small kitchen but love my toast. This works perfectly and fits in my kitchen perfectly. So far I love it.
I've had that Black and Decker toaster for about 4 years. Great little guy and still working good after all that time. And I love that it doesn't get hot because every other toaster I have owned I accidentally melted bread wrappers on.
I’ve only just started watching. I don’t know how they will perform, but the SMEG is a beautiful design. Everything down to the knob on the lever is pleasing to the eye. To be fair, the Black & Decker is a decent design, too.
Edit: Your criteria isn’t exactly fair. The expensive toaster actually produces a dark toasting on 6, whereas the cheaper one doesn’t even reach a medium brown on level 6. Admittedly, the last slices on the SMEG are extremely brown, but at least you can get an intense level, if you like that.
So for the browning levels, in my experience the cheap toaster isnt going to make the bread darker as you continue because when you keep toasting it reaches the "done temperature" quicker so as you continue it will pop up before the toast is actually toasted right. the cheap toaster has to cool down in between so the temp can be reset and the next toast can actually reach the specified level's "done temperature" if that makes any sense. thats the downfall of cheaper toasters.

The settings are not how dark it gets, but instead how many minutes before the toast pops up. Beagles only need one side toasted so that's why they need a beagle button that way only the center coils get hot
