HOW TO ADJUST SHIFTER LINKAGE ON CANAM OUTLANDER / RENEGADE - NO MORE CANAM ROCK!!

  • Adjusted my wife's Canam Outlander 850 shifter linkage. I was getting sick and tired of her having to do the Canam Rock on her Canam Outlander 850 to get it in gear, so lets fix this. Its not a complicated fix, you just need to play with it until you get the shifting nice and smooth. I'm sure my wife will be super happy that her shifter linkage on her Canam Outlander 850 is fixed. This fix will work on any Canam Outlander or Renegade.

    Thanks for the video! I just bought a new machine that had the same shifting issue. I put tracks on it and let's just say it's a lot more difficult to do the Cam-Am shake with tracks. I'm glad to see there's a potential fix.👍👍

    Thanks! Just picked up a 2014 Outlander max and this was desperately needed. Gonna check out your maintenance playlist to see if I can figure out these breaks. They're super tight. Takes a lot of throttle to overcome them and get going and letting off the throttle once I'm up to speed will launch me over the handlebars. I'm thinking sticky calipers, we'll see.

    couple extra points:
    can am shifter adjuster top nut is reverse threaded so clockwise turning loosens the nut...
    make sure the little heim joint on the transmission is straight after you tighten the adjustment nuts... this can cause binding during shifting and make it feel very tight to get into park or low range.
    if it is easy to shift when the machine is not running but harder to shift when it is running (maybe even hear a grind while running) - you may have a primary clutch engagement issue.
    happy to help :)

    I have a 2007 Outlander 400HO I duno maybe am XT or somethin(First Canam Quad). I did this adjustment because of the annoying rock. Have t took it out yet to see if it holds but just sitting in the garage it cured most of the issue. I will say though, I found this video after figuring I would try to adjust the shifter linkage. I did shift it to Neutral first though, then started doing the adjustments. I ended up where there is some room to play with adjustment left when I park but when shifted all the way forward ( I forget is that High(?) ) the adjustment can't be pulled back any farther. I could adjust it a little furth ahead but I think I am at the sweet spot for now. It seemed to shift anyway. We'll see after I get to plowing with it in a few months

  • @Jil1A
    @Jil1A 3 роки тому +7

    These adjustments are definitely helpful. Thanks for demonstrating. Another fix to achieve even smoother shifting is to replace the 2 bearings inside the one-way bearing with aftermarket bearings that are easier to spin than the OEM ones. I went with VXB bearings off of Amazon and lubed everything using the proper isoflex grease and the shifting is buttery smooth now. Definitely recommended.

    • @HanginWithPA
      @HanginWithPA  3 роки тому +3

      Best way to explain it is to put the machine in park and verify the dash says park. Loosen the top and bottom nuts all the way, then slowly move the adjustment screw. Then test out the shift, if it’s getting to tight aka you can’t put it even in HIgh then turn the adjustment screw the other way. Keep making small adjustments until it snotthly shifts from P to L to H to N without rocking the machine. I do this all why sitting on the machine. Hope this helps

    WTH, it’s so stupid that Can Am would have the sense to make the Adjustment as part of the PDI, or have it customer ready?

      Well, I was determined to have it shift smoother, made some improvement by releasing some pressure points, it better but it certainly isn’t Silky Smooth like one guy said. It’s similar to a dirt bike that has shifting forks. They is no kinda in, it’s either in gear or not. I’m going to put some miles on it and see. It a piss off having to rock the vehicle so it goes into gear. Some gears are ok at times P & L are a bugger. I’m in Canada, just over $17,000.00 overall I tore it apart applied No Seize on certain bolts etc. found only two things wrong, one Zerk was 3 turns loose and the rear axle grease fitting was dry. Looking forward to the end of the Break In Period, so I can let er dangle!!

    Thanks for your video, there aren't a lot out there on this topic! The problem I'm having is that say the bike is in neutral. To get into reverse I have to go all the way down into park (so I can't even get to park). To get into high, I have to go all the way into low. It just seems like there is too much play in neutral before engaging the next gear up or down. Do you think this adjustment will help my issue or any suggestions on what could?

    Thanks for the tip, just picked up a 2021 1000 that needs this 3 days old. I’m surprised they are not tuned appropriately from the factory. But then again it doesn’t really surprise me... it shifts OK and is usable but is a little tight at times and I’ve noticed if you turn it off without putting it in park, it won’t move to park after its shut off. have you noticed this?
