Small bullet goes straight through detonator cap and impacts on back of the 50cal bullet causing secondary explosion.

When I was a kid, we used to buy 22 cal. BB caps to mess with. I shot at one that was fixed in a tree branch at eye level - with a BB gun. I hit the end, and that casing flew back and hit me in the forehead, albeit at 180 rotation. Left a nice bloody circlet there, that my buddy mopped up with a spare sock. Was sure dumb.

When I was about 10 years old, my buddy stole one of his Dad's 30.06 rounds. We went out to the barn behind his house and clamped the round in a vice... then backed off and I shot at the primer end with my BB gun. Took about 6 or 8 tries before I hit it because we were about 20 feet away. The BB fired the round all right, but the 30.06 round fired the BB back at me hitting me in the forearm holding the BB gun. The BB went in my arm about half an inch. But we were too scared to tell anyone what we had done so my buddy dug it out with his pocket knife and sneaked a bandaid out to cover it after it stopped bleeding. Not the dumbest thing I ever did but definitely made the top 10.

You noticed that the primer has a tube that allows the powder to start burning from front to back, so the font of the case explodes, then no pressure and of course the rest of the powder doesn't burn. That powder is made to burn slowly in high pressure condition in a long barrel.

Gunpowder that is not under huge pressures burns slowly.
When that primer blew, it ruptured the case at it's weakest points and ejected all of the unburnt powder.
I doubt more than that tiny portion of the powder that was nearly touching the primer burned as it was promptly ejected and not under enough pressure.

      What Is Islam?
Islam is not just another religion.
It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.
It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone.
It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine.
The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as:
{ “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4)
Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus.
Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him

People often think “what if the cartridge goes off if I drop it or something, will the bullet go harm someone?” The answer is no but the exploding case could kill you! All it takes is a tiny bit of that brass to rupture an artery.

Voy a verlo otra vez.

Just goes to show you how important a properly measured head space and chamber are. They support the brass case to prevent rupturing and keeps the gas going forward out of the case down the barrel. The brass is just a vessel for the primer, powder and projectile. The breech face, or bolt face if its a rifle, supports the back of the brass and ignites the primer and the chamber contains the pressure. It also makes sure that the projectile gains max velocity by keeping the gases in the barrel and out the muzzle. That is why so much unburned powder can be seen because the gases escaped, not only from the back of the unsupported primer but out of the neck of the case.

The front exploded because it was not supported in a chamber which contains the pressure and keeps the brass from expanding like that.

because the first bullet fired, pierced the cartridge causing the explosion, in reality a small pin just hits the center of the bullet with very strong force, igniting the primer and setting off a chain reaction of events that eject the actual bullet from its casing through the concentration of gasses, with the bullet penetrating the casing, you have more than one area where the controlled explosion has more than one area to exit.

Can hardly fire a bullet without a barrel; nothing to focus the pressure behind the bullet. Securing the shell helps a little I imagine, but then, as those guys said, puncturing it releases the energy out the back/sides.
Think about when someone throws a ~9mm in a campfire.....when it goes off, (the bullet never really goes anywhere).. but the shell still has hardly any real velocity when it leaves.... nearly all that energy just gets squandered without a barrel.

@@ryanpeck3377 When .50cal goes off properly there is 53,000PSI pressure in the chamber. It can propel that projectile at almost 1km per sec. That was not 53,000PSI when it ruptured.
As I said before and someone else has also commented, some powder burnt the rest was ejected. I have reloaded enough of my own ammunition to know what unburnt gunpowder looks like, and fired thousands of .50cal as well.
I met a guy who blew half his thigh off when a Browning .50cal M2HB machine gun pre-fired as it was not timed correctly, and from 2ft away from the cartridge case it shredded his thigh.
I say again, that round did not ignite all the powder, only a fraction.
