    Once it warms up later this spring I plan on doing the following in one procedure on my '90 B230F engine: new water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner & spring, camshaft & intermediate shaft seals, valve clearance check/adjustment, hushers. I have most of the new parts I'll need - mostly Genuine Volvo. Since I have never done any of those jobs before I just need a lot of patience and luck. Hopefully, I have all the required tools, too.

    Thank you very much for your informative video. I have a 91 740 wagon that has been in my family since new. It is very near completely restored and this was one of the last items on my check list. It is impossible to find anyone who will be meticulously faithful to the exact original condition of the car so your excellent walk through was very helpful to me.

      I have a 92 740 wagon with a little over 490K miles that I drive daily. It has been maintained all of its life and is stock. It still has the original alternator and starter. They are the best cars ever made.

      Nope all original. Nothing but diligent routine maintenance. The valve cover has never been removed. It has never even needed a tow. They are possibly the best built vehicles ever made.

    Hi there. Did the clearance changed when you put new hushers?

    • @robertdeptula2003
      @robertdeptula2003  Місяць тому

      New hushers will lower the gap, but not for long. Don't measure valve clearance with just installed hushers. They will get in shape eventually.

      @@robertdeptula2003 thanks. By the way, when you mention you have to replace the shim to correct the clearance... It means you have to order it and replace it after arriving, right? So, in the meantime the car is parked, or you re-do everything just to replace the shims once they arrive?

    • @robertdeptula2003

      I put everything back together and the car was driven before new shims arrived. I replaced the shims after using a special tool without camshaft removal.

    Great video and explaining. I have a question - at 17:00 when you show your chart, do you want both to be at 0.40 so that they are equal? Since the shim measures at 3.70 and you want it to be less so that the .45 goes to .40 wouldn't you replace it with a 3.65 shim? and not the 3.75 ? Thank for all your help. Joseph in New Mexico.... • @robertdeptula2003
      @robertdeptula2003  3 роки тому +1

      Is it your's thumb up as the answer to my question? If you have Bentley be careful, they made wrong calculations there. If you have it let me know. I will explain to you what is wrong there. My calculations are correct and you can verify that with Haynes manual for Volvo 740 & 760.

      The "gap" needs to be .40 but it is .45 which means it is .05 too much so the gap needs to be made smaller. Since the shim measures 3.70 you need to add .05 to it , to close the gap by that amount , so the final shim is 3.7 +.05=3.75. Now the gap is .40
