  • In this episode of the How to Wingfoil Series I talk with Josh from The Foil Shop about beginner boards, foils, and wings.
This turned into more of a conversation with Josh than my own personal thoughts and specifics on beginner gear. So hop on over to the Wingman Foil Club Forum for an in depth written guide on my thoughts for beginner wing foil setups. Topic link: wingmanfoilclub.com/forum/vie...
Also, there are way too many brands and options to cover every single question on gear in one video or a forum post, so if you have any specific questions about gear and the right gear for you, please ask them in the WFC Forum. When you ask questions there, other people can learn from your questions, and then I don't have to answer the same question over and over again. Don’t forget there is free online coaching if you sign up and ask your questions on the forum.
If you're an experienced rider with different opinions, it could be helpful for beginners to hear them. Please contribute on the WFC Forum and I can try to build a comprehensive database.
Go see Josh at The Foil Shop.

Josh seems like the nicest cool dude. Agree, if it works for you, support the guy.

I got a whole quiver of Takuma RS, 2 used and one new for $1300 (4.3; 5.1; and 6.1). The 5.1 gets going in pretty light conditions.

Buy last year’s stuff and save 30%. Tituan was doing double back flips on his three year old gear. So if it was good enough for him, last year’s gear is good enough for mere mortals. Cabrinha and Sljngshot often dump their wings after each season. They’re not the most cutting edge wing manufacturers out there but it’s quality stuff. Unathletic and older beginners should stay the hell away from the DW board and its promise of 10knot foiling. Those boards are tippy as hell and crazy to deal with in the chop. Gybing them is a trick too. Rather get a 7m wing and a 1700 sq cm HA foil and use a board 10L above your weight and then be patient for a gust.
