    Thanks for your long term review of these speakers. As an older and wiser audiophile, I generally don't waste my time with reviews of recent purchases or additions of audio gear, and making judgements in that short period of time is generally premature. It normally takes me a year or two to fully understand and appreciate a good audio product, and many thanks for reviewing a product in the correct manner.

    Thanks for this update video on Evo 4.2. As I read from the comments, I’m the happy member of the “Evo 4.2 owners who bought it based on your review” club! And thank you for investigating and answering on the phase plug issue! Not a big deal for me regarding the sound quality, but I’m impressed how seriuosly you took our questions! And about Evo 4.2 I can say everything you say is true. It’s impresive how forgiving they are regarding the placement!

    Excellent speakers. Ive been using my Evo 4.2s everyday for about 6 months now in our living room. These speakers are very heavily used. I would oftentimes leave them playing for 12 hours straight. Happy to say I've never encountered any issues yet. Soundstage is large. Sound signature is very smooth, easy going, balanced and on the warm side. Amazing bass for bookshelf speakers. Mids can, at times, be too forward with certain songs. Imaging is just ok (could be due to its large and deep soundstage). If you want 3D imaging, I would suggest to try out the KEFs.

    I purchased the Evo 4.2 in Walnut recently, and they're honestly breathtaking. Clean, warm, incredible resolution, and simply stunning to look at. They definitely need a small sub though to realise the full sound stage. That aside, amazingly even running them with a Marantz sr5013 receiver in bi amp, they are just that good. Can't wait to introduce a dedicated stereo amp to take them to the next level.

      I've been through a couple of Amps with mine, if it helps you at all I've settled on an Arcam SA20, the pure class A up to 20w really compensates for the slight low volume lack of detail, and the 90w/Ch at 8 ohm and 180w/Ch at 4ohms (both channels driven....unlike the way AV amps describe their output) really get a good grip.
      Might save you some time, Marantz PM7000 and Audiolab 6000 both got discarded

    Thanks for this update! Good to hear you still enjoy these speakers. I have a recently purchased pair teamed with a Cambridge CXA60 and find them very good, especially for longer listening sessions. No sensory overload from overly tight bass or overly bright tops. Just sweet and refined. I use a Wharfedale SW150 sub along with them to give a bit of lower down grunt. I'm finding this system very pleasant. Perhaps my only negative is that these Evo 4.2s aren't very forgiving of poor recordings. Some reviews suggest 4.1s might win out by being more "forgiving" of poorer recordings. But then they might miss the lovely mids the 4.2s offer. Thanks again for the many reviews!

    I had a very good time with these speakers for several months but eventually let them go - they excelled at jazz and classical, as well as acoustic piece, but they really were lacking for many rock and electronic oriented track and didn't have much "hit" for those sorts of styles. I replaced them with (folks seem to be very hot or cold with these) new Zu Omen DWs and couldn't be happier overal. The EVOs were more detailed and had better placement/imaging in many applications, but the Zus come close (except for the detailed highs) have a much deeper soundstage and overall just make me smile no matter what. All that to say, the EVOs are fantastic and I do sometimes miss them.

      Hi there! This is a bit disappointing to hear! I was going to use the 4.1 version in a mixed HiFi / DJ setup. My primary music is House and I was going to supplement the low end with a REL Sub. Is it the speed and dynamics that were lacking for you? I am struggling to find a decent bookshelf speaker which meets my needs... and I don't really want to be overwhelmed with a forward Klipsch sound. I don't have the room for a floor standing. Any suggestions?

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 3 роки тому +1

      @@alanmodimages The 4.1 will be different. I can (and many always will) make suggestions but the truth is only your own ear will tell you if you're happy or not. I could have lived with the 4.2 quite honestly, but I was making a big swap and they didn't offer enough of an upgrade from the Wharedale Diamonds 10.2 I was replacing. To that end, those Diamonds had more mid-bass shove than the Evos, but lacked bass depth and upper detail... but that's comparative. They are fantastic for the price. I know @Tharbamar lived with and loved a pair of modified Diamond 240s for quite a long while. Those are quite similar to the Diamond 10.2 and worth a look as well. IMO both of those have more boom, but that's not always a bad thing in a bookshelf; under the right placement you can really dial in a meaty sound in some cases by utilizing that (ported) boom to your advantage.
      Yammer yammer yammer. :) Bookshelf/standmounts can be tricky.

    • @alanmodimages
      @alanmodimages 3 роки тому

      @@therealchickentender Thanks so much for your feedback! One of my core challenges is that the speakers need to be literally inches from the wall with my setup, so I have been avoiding rear ported designs. The KEF Q series actually come with port plugs for that application, but they seem like a compromise. My only other alternative s to look for flat panel wall mounted Home Theater speakers. I just have my doubts that they can compare to the heft a true bookshelf can offer.

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 3 роки тому +1

      @@alanmodimages Fully. NP. It's always the room itself that plays the biggest challenge and effect *every* speaker more than we realize a lot of the time. The 4.3 might work for you as well with the same bottom port design and when you factor in the stand, they're probably smaller than the total footprint than the 4.2 or many standmount speakers. They were my "next stop" if my Zus didnt' work out for me, but those did work out so can't really speak to them more than just theory. Anyhow, yeah you gotta just try them or any speaker out in your space. Wherever you buy from, have a good return policy. :) Hearing them in your space and having time to adjust can't be more important. :)

First, I took all of them out of one and I was happy with the quality of the treble. But after a while I put one smallest sponge back on. The same in the second column and it stays like that for me. I'm asking because it has come to my attention that the tweeters are not in phase with the woofers, so I would like to see if someone else with the same speaker has the same result - that would tell me if it's by design due to the crossover architecture they used or if it's an internal wiring error. Dynamika bez zmian. Doły genialne. I am not sure about the break in of tweeter though but it sounds bit more representative..so I am confused whether its in the process of break in or it has breaked in. I've always liked Wharfedale for their voicing and pricing but I haven't heard them recently with an AMT. Heard nothing but decent reviews and nothing that makes them seem undesirable. If I was in the market for new speakers I'd defo check them out.

    If you've stuffed these on an AV amp or that SMSL class D......well...in a way you're lucky.... you've got a whole new set of speakers to discover when you buy a class A/B with around 100w into 8 and 200w into 4 ohm.

      @@Tharbamar You miss my point, they work very well with pretty much anything over 40w.....but there is an extra, hidden, bonus to these speakers, and I believe it is to do with the curve into 4ohm in the lower registers that they open up even further with higher power, not necessarily wattage, amplifiers, but strong power rails...and can support more expensive amplification than you'd expect, or is usual for speakers at this price point without becoming the restricting component.

      @@DomRivers67 I don't missed your point you should go back and read your comment, you're judging base on one UA-cam video but It don't matter they were good but there are better ones out there now, is it $4500 Amp not expensive enough?

      @@DomRivers67Exactly. I have these on a Denon AVR, they sound good. When I use a friend's IcePower 1200AS2 amp they sound much better. Really brings out something special in tracks, we were all quite surprised.

    WARNING: You should NEVER force a driver by hand. This can result in voice coil damage due to asymmetric excursion. Don’t ever push in a speaker cone…. It’s not a car tire.
