  • When we think of off-camera flash, we tend to think of highly stylized images with subjects that are boldly lit to pop from the rest of the scene. But what if you're aiming for a more natural look to your portraits?
In this video, Pye walks through 3 techniques for using Profoto's OCF lighting tools that blend in perfectly with the existing lighting to draw the focus on the subject in more subtle ways. The results are portraits that look naturally lit, even with the effects of the flash.

I just love your videos so much. I usually hate 'tutorials' that turn out to be ads for a specific product, but going so in-depth and showing results of advanced (for me) techs like these is just cool. I totally lost it when you createed those shadows on the wall with the snoot. Too bad that this lighting grid is waay out of my finances :(

nice tuto ! beautiful results with simple setups. i noticed A2 is 3 times the price of ad100 pro ! your pictures seem slightly underexposed on faces before editing with vf presets. Why do you do that ? What is your rule of thumb ?

Great eye for shooting locations. I often look at pictures after the fact and wish I had taken a different angle or used a wider/tighter shot.

    I am beginner in photography.
    I bought a used Sony A7s2.
    New 24-70 2.8 lens.
I want to do street photography, shoot people/portraits.
How much power flash would be enough to shoot outdoors?
I would want to take this flash with me easily and during travelling.
Should I go for on camera flash or off camera flash?
This would be 1st flash that I would buy.
    What are your suggestions?
Please also suggest softbox and tripod (either flash or camera would be on the tripod) to take with me in my luggage.

I like what you're doing with the flash. I just wonder why not use a second flash instead of editing to do what a second flash would do. And if you say for less stuff to carry. Then I wonder why not just edit everything and use no flashes.
I do love the small flashes and have added many to my lighting system. Even large 1200watt flashes which have been my bread and butter outside since Elinchrom introduced the ELB 1200.

When I'm working by myself, I try to find a balance between what's easy to do in-person versus what's easy to do in post. When I'm working with a crew, I emphasize everything in-person and do only what's necessary in post.
