Definately not an attempt to predate. It was a misstaken act of curiosity and a territorial attack. Shark gave back the skelett so no attempt to predate!!
Have skin dived La Jolla cove many times and always amazed there have not been more attacks there. This location is just north of a protected seal Rookery. There were also 2 other events that day that may have contributed to the Pamperin attack. 1) a swimmer had cut himself on the rocks and left alot of blood in the water just that afternoon. 2) a dead whale had washed up on La Jolla shores , across the cove from the attack sight a day or so before. It's still a miracle more attacks have not taken place here (other than a kayak attack in mid 90s, sketchy details) There is also a very deep dropoff with cold water and rich with large prey, not far from shore. Thanks for content.
@@jon8062 about a decade and a half ago, Collier's site (which also reports shark encounters and sightings as well as man on shark incidents) reported that La Jolla (someplace, I think it was called the 'Children's Cove because of the breakwater and sandy beach--which the local harbor seals also love!) that a local and a bunch of Italian 'touristas' who were on the breakwater had a front row seat to a white shark killing and eating a pinniped

My family and myself went to the Drive In to see it when it came out. My nephew had a rubber shark and a GI Joe. So someone, not sure who, put GI Joe in the sharks mouth and set it on top of the car. :).

Finding it pretty Sharky this Year , A few Whites coming in close , late Arvo , Whales and Calves now travelling South ,from up QLD. Love my Job and Studied their movements over the last 8yrs in detail. Love how you stick to Facts!
Hey Hal, missed you and your videos. I have just got to the part (11ish minutes) where your talking about something eating a shark/whale from behind. I have heard that dolphins mainly but at times killer whales would damage the pray from behind to ensure the pray doesn't swim away. Dolphins have been known to target sharks to eat the heart only as apparently it is fatty. I hope this helps. Take care from the UK.
I've never heard that. Killer whales are well known for hunting whites for their liver only, you're saying dolphins do the same for the heart? Runs in the family I guess haha

Hi from Australia, the home of bloody big sharks.😊 lm Australian Navy Veteran in the 1970s and 1980s, and l can remember seeing dorsal fins following our ships back in the day when we threw everything over the side. Some of those fins were huge with a big black mass underneath. I can only imagine how big they were.
Hi Hal, Thank you for your episodes. I absolutely love your series. Regarding the Pamprin attack, his diving partner stated from the beginning that the shark was the size of a bus. Of all the newspaper clippings I have (from the day of the attack) and stories Ive read, the shark was estimated to be about 20 feet, from the very beginning. Also, the skeleton that was found, (fully intact) more than a year later, a mile away in an ocean canyon has never been positively identified as Pamprin, it was just assumed to be him. If a GW was chopping down on the man's body, I would guess that his bones were shattered and then scattered about. The skeleton was probably that of one of the many unfortunate and unrecovered drowning victims I'll put my money on the eye witness's account regarding the size of this fish, and that Pamprin was swallowed whole.
He stated from the beginning that the shark was rather skinny tail to dorsal and that is what lead to the switch to tiger from GW. I think one of the articles mentions the tiger having the biggest mouth

Huge respect Hal. I have recently read an intriguing book called Shark Attacks In British Waters By Alex Watts and I was quite surprised. I certainly believed British waters were completely safe. But now, I'm not so sure. There do seem to be interesting mysterious cases of disappearances and speculated attacks (and I'm not just talking fisherman net stories). I think we do get makos and blue sharks in the summer, and the porbeagle is always a background thought. Great Whites are often rumoured and speculated as hot summer visitors but never confirmed. Plenty of seals for them. Then again, we so have orcas too, so "powerful animal" dragging people down could mean almost anything As an expert yourself Hal, what are you thoughts? There's not a lot to go on, only a few sketchy cases. Have cold temperatate British waters really been safe from shark attacks like experts generally think? Is it sensationlism to believe anything otherwise? At the very least, I'm just glad there's no bulls or tigers...

That is the same shark book that I got way back in the 80s at a garage sale and discovered that a man attacked and killed off the coast of California on April 24th 1960 at 2 p.m.. that is my birthday and the time of my birth. It chills me to the Bone to read it he was takin out in the worst way. In that same minute of Time I was born.😮

I believe your "floundering" a major opportunity by letting this channel die and I suggest you reach out to other content creators or professionals so you can continue growing. Thanks so much for all you do Hal, your hard work is very much appreciated! There’s a major juvenile great white aggregation site in Del Mar, just a couple miles up the coast from La Jolla. Often there are GW sightings at the adjacent beaches as well a recent GW attack in Del Mar last year and one found dead and beached at Torrey Pines, one beach over. Besides that my experience in the water there and talking to other divers and swimmers, I have never heard the word Tiger shark once, not that they couldn’t be out there but my gut is telling me, that was no tiger.
Oh, the book in your hand! I got it for Christmas when I was a shark smitten teen. I fell in love, and READ that book like a bible! Oh, 45 years ago. Still smitten!

The white shark liver takes up almost 25% of the body. At 1st it really pissed me off lol. But then I found out its a pretty good meal for them.

Thanks so much for all you do Hal, your hard work is very much appreciated! There’s a major juvenile great white aggregation site in Del Mar, just a couple miles up the coast from La Jolla. Often there are GW sightings at the adjacent beaches as well a recent GW attack in Del Mar last year and one found dead and beached at Torrey Pines, one beach over. Besides that my experience in the water there and talking to other divers and swimmers, I have never heard the word Tiger shark once, not that they couldn’t be out there but my gut is telling me, that was no tiger.
Utube sure puts a lot of ads on a show they wont pay. Shame on them.
