My mother used to teach me to strain the chilli paste ground with water .
We used to make the mavu in cooker bottom previous night and will close & keep .Morning we will add lemon juice & do it .

Oh good . I was just thinking about that because even my mom does it in cooker bottom in the previous night itself and then add lemon juice the next day early morning and then we go to the terrace to make vadams.

I used to prepare maavu in the evening and make Vadams in the night. Morning it comes up. Then keep it under the Sun as I was working in a school in Hyderabad. My friends too follow the same. But my mother used to prepare in the morning as she was very orthodox
