Banner Thomas, that amazing bass Player. I grew up watching his band Big Engine ever since i was 5. I'm only 19 and young but have a heart for the great old style southern Rock. I knew Banner Thomas very close. Too bad he left Big Engine and retired.
Yeah, those bass lines are freaking incredible!!!!!!!!!! Incredibly hard, too, but I had some friends that we would jam with, and I learned that sumbich note for tote to play it with them when I was first starting out. (At 50yo!!! lol) I learned a LOT learning that song!
I am also one of the "Class Of 78" boys and we burnt up the arenas too back in the day. We seen em all whether we liked em or not, lol. R.I.P. Danny Joe. Thru video your talent will live on forever! Got to meet him once after a show in the 80s. Very cool dude, easy-going, no rock star attitude.
I was born in '67 and by the time I was 10 I had discovered Ted Nugent and bought Cat Scratch Fever on a 45 for .99 cents with my lawn mowing money in the summer of '77 but then Molly Hatchet broke on the scene and the first 33 LP I bought was "Flirtin With Disaster". It blew me away and made me get my first guitar. Always loved Zeppelin too and Skynyrd but Molly Hatchet is the real shit.
***** that'd what this person is saying. They were in jr.high in 1978. You could wear whatever you wanted to school in those days and people did. You only hear about that type of shit happening now.....people being sent home for what they wear.
William Allison Yea i'am a ga.man and i love them southern rock bands that's what i grew up to plus ten yesrs after ,the who ,All the 7o,s 80,s but i'am a true stones fan there the greatest band ever ,,Mick said in late 68 they were going to be the greatest rock band ever and he has proved it . Saw them open for Foreigner in '79 in Portland OR, what an awsome concert that was. They just rocked the house, one of the all-time best opening acts I ever saw.
+rhonda thompson I agree Rhonda. However, I recently became turned on to a band that has been around for at least a decade that might change your mind. At least a little. Check out Blackberry Smoke! Then spread the word...Peace!
I seen them live in west germany in 1983 when i was a soldier. I was missing home and Molly Hatchett that night gave me a small taste of being back on the block with my buddies. . Friggin outstanding concert
3 smoking guitars and a soul thumpin bass! I call it go fast rock! 54 yrs old n I'll get a speed sheet quick if this jam comes on! It's mandatory Southern law practically to speed while jamming to this ! Flirting with disaster by Molly hatchet, Mississippi queen by mountain, and train train by blackfoot! Southern Rock Gold! Ohh and they call me the breeze by skynnard !
I was lucky to see them at the Bar Association in Springfield Ma in 1987. A new noise ordinance was just put in for out door concerts. Stop playing at 11pm. It rained earlier that night and took time to dry things out. At 11 Danny Joe acknowledged this and then told the City FUCK YOU! And then they went right into Flirting with Disaster. Cops on stage pulling plugs while the band rocked on. Simply the Best!
hey I saw Molly Hatchet in the hot sweaty summer of '79 at ISU { Illinois State University ) with none other than Charlie Daniels Band - what a time, what a concert, a moment in time, I pulled up in my jeep, no shirt, straw hat and levis, with my friends, chicks everywhere - pot everywhere, what a time. needless to say those young days will never happen again but man what time it was.
Hard working, hard living band. Only one of them is still alive today - Steve Holland. Almost all died before age 60. Saw them in concert twice, both were excellent. Just a great , hard rocking band.
Long Beach Arena??? If so this was the Outlaws Molly Hatchet concert, I think 38 special opened. My older brother introduced me to this music growing up and concerts in general. Right now I reliving that concert as they play this song. Geart days great times and most of all experiencing it with your brother. Thanks brother for making me the music lover I am today
I remember this song. It is one of my favorites. Danny Joe Brown, Dave Hlubek, Duane Roland, Steve Holland, Bruce Crump and Banner Thomas. I lived off of Highway 160 and went to High School in Charlestown, Indiana.
Saw those guys in the early 80's at a small venue I won tickets to. Kickass show and sadly the way concerts were in the late 60's, 70's and 80's are gone forever. I'm so glad I saw a lot of great bands when you had to wait overnight at a record store to buy tickets.
Too many great southern rock artists lost in their prime, RIP - (Molly Hatchet) Danny Jo Brown, Duane Roland, (Lynyrd Skynyrd) Ronny Van Zant, Steve and Cassie Gains, Allen Collins, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson, (Marshall Tucker) Tommy and Toy Caldwell, (Allman Brothers) Duane Allman, Allen Woody, Berry Oakley, (Outlaws) Hughie Thomasson. I'm sure I am missing more, thank you for making beautiful music that will last forever.
Glad to hear you won't back down! The '70's were the best rock and roll and music in general. It's amazing that we can relive these times like we are still there!
This is Real music, played by Real Men who paid their dues down a thousand highways. Not like all this sad instant fame crap we have today. Only death itself stopped the members of Molly Hatchet, and yet their music lives on, to bring joy to millions of fans worldwide. Rest in Peace Danny Joe, Duane and Bruce, job well done gentlemen.
The lead singer Danny Joe Brown had a stroke while driving from his brothers house in 1995, after that he suffered from serious complications and also had diabetes. He was hospitalized for a month and died on March 10th 2005 with in one hour of being released from the hospital, he passed away at his home. Duane Roland lead guitarist and founding member died on June 19th 2006 at his home, his cause of death was listed as natural causes. Bruce Crump the original drummer died on March 16th 2015, he had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2002. There were many contributing factors in each of these awesome men's death, not the least of which is that of their self chosen role of being a human commodity, whom it would appear by a basic study of the quote rock star job description, is as if one is almost bought and sold by contractual obligation there by allowing themselves to be taken on tour around the world over and over again at a pace and frequency that in and of itself would fell most mortal men and expected to be perfect at every show and to continue to help sell millions of records and promote those records with press tours, radio station tours, various appointments and other associated professional obligations, such as song writing and recording and rehearsal combined with, the stress of trying to stay relevant among the vast herd of other bands and groups and solo artists, in other words the competion, while swirling in the hurricane blender of the flavor of the month club, as the publics musical tastes and spending patterns change, seemingly sometimes overnight, all the while battling to retain their core fan base, while trying to hold onto some sense of sanity, honor, self worth, dignity, core value and purpose, while the diminishing percentages of actual profit in the music business demanded that they acquire new fans, who in turn hopefully will buy more tickets, records and merchandise which increased the pressure to tour and record more. If we now add in bad diets, lack of exercise, years with very little sleep, drugs, alcohol, smoking, preexisting or new medical conditions, marital and family pressures and financial, legal and other personal problems, while being lied to, cheated, stolen from, and co opted in manners most unseemly, in a highly organized fashion by parties who were nothing more than leaches, thieves and con men on all sides. Basically life in the fast lane killed them, they chose to burn the candle at both ends, fulfilling their dreams of stardom, while riding on the razors edge all the way to Glory, tuff work indeed, but it comes with nice fringe benefits like the company of beautiful women, money and fame. if you can get it and keep it, till it grinds you all the way down to the bone and kills you. Peace

I saw Molly Hatchet in '94 in a Windsor,Ont.,bar called California's and one of the boys gave me a guitar pick.Too bad almost all of them are now gone.
I always liked this southern rock. In 78/79 I was just starting high school. Then I found metal -hair bands. 😂 my daughter now 23 in 2024 knows we had it good 🤘🏼 I do like her bands too ! Metal edge of course !

The MH guys were fantastic. shook our hands and talked to us for 5 minutes or so. We talked about radio tunes. Being teens and such. The Molly Hatchet!!!!!!! Good Music Good People.......
I saw this concert, along with a limo picking me up taking me to dinner, Molly concert, and then.. party with the band. One of the best times of my life. Saw the drummer Dave a couple years ago in Gatlinburg working up there. Molly Hatchet with Danny Jo will always be the shizzzz
Wow, did not know that. Steve and I had a conversation on the shore of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee when I was in high school. We ate lunch together and talked for a long time. He stood out at as one of greatest rock n roll stars that I ever met. And i met most of them.

Peace
