Very thankful for Dave 😂
I absolutely hate it when "how-to" videos are actually more complicated because they don't specify the amounts.
Definitely
I think content farms don't care about informing their viewers, just getting their views. Stick to channels like Ann's for that :)
I think they don’t specify the amounts because they know it doesn’t work and they don’t want people to try it. Or maybe when people try it, they will blame it on not knowing the exact measurements and not the channel themselves.
Yeah like how are we going to do it? Like if your gonna make something fake PUT SOME EFFORT IN IT
Or sometimes they’ll pour in some totally random liquid that’s like neon orange and don’t say what it is

BUT now I know these were just fake recipes!! THANK YOU
Ann addressed this in an earlier episode of debunking 5MC cooking vids. She said kids and young people would try these "easy" recipes and hacks only for them not to work, and then think they did something wrong and have it impact their self-esteem. I'm glad Ann was able to help you with this discovery. Good luck in your future cooking adventures! Stay strong!
@@FashionMajor2012 Yess, Idk what is wrong with 5MC lol, anyways Thank you!! Good luck for you as well😊
The worst thing is you can make noodles in the microwave like those, I've done it before. You just need it in longer.
Maybe if the pasta was fresh and not the dry kind, 2 minutes may work? Idk, I don't make my own pasta. I buy it from the store.
Ok not to brag or make anyone feel bad but I'm 11 and can bake and cook

Am I the only one who thinks 5 Minute Crafts is now ripping off Anne's content (that was originally calling them out, lol) by making these debunking videos now? They seem desperate enough to debunk their own content and steal someone else's idea whilst doing it
I thought the same. It makes them despicable, but at least she doesn't care as long as they stop fooling people.
Debunking videos are just the latest craze
Kinda. She's not the only one who's doing debunking videos. Lots of youtubers do that too, because they makes much more views than regular content. Views and money are the only things 5 minute crafts/blossom/etc. cares about, so it isn't a big surprise tbh
There are LOTS of people who are started debunking 5 minute crafts WAY before Anne. Robby for instance (I don't think he does it anymore though).
@@MusumeNeko Yeah, that's how I came across Jarvis Johnson (someone check out his channel, he even has two of them where he talks about these kinds of videos, although his content expanded to fake animation stories etc. as well) and there are many more UA-camrs who make videos calling out content farms. (Also some try out the fake hacks and of course they fail!)
The worst thing about these content farms is how the recipes make Dave suffer

No that’s the best bit 😂
That man deserves a medal or such for all the torture he has gone through.
I hope he at least got to eat the "ironed cheese" sandwich.
The sass when Ann talks about Five Minute Crafts debunking themselves is incredible
It’s not progress to debunk themselves. They’re just hopping on the trend of debunking, since that type of video gets views. They still come out with new videos with lots of false claims.
Yes and to cover their own arses if anyone does these 'hacks' and something goes terribly wrong
I disagree. Even if it's still clickbait such videos have at least some relation to the truth. Now THAT is massive progress.
And the fact that they make debunking videos might even give people the idea that they're more credible and therefore think the false claims are also true
@ You seem to think I am defending 5MC. I am not. I hate 5MC more than words could ever describe. But, the bitter fact is, its braindead clickbait is here to stay. With these debunking videos, the hacks at least have some relation to the truth.
I have written letters about content farms to newspaper editors, Google, and pretty much everyone you can imagine. If there is one thing I know it is that youtube LIKES content farms and they are here to stay. These content farms keep people on UA-cam far longer than conventional content and youtube wants that. SO given that they are a fact of life on UA-cam, I'd rather see them do something mildly related to the truth like debunking their own content than complete fiction.
Wonder if they will eventually debunk stuff that actually works? 😂😂😂

Isn't that what they've always been called? Or is that just Australia.
@@rebeccaedkins9987 Just there I think, I'm not sure. As an American, I have never heard that term.
@Poppy Lidbetter-Smith maybe where you're from, not so for some of us.
@@candacethomas1262 It's the usual British term as well. "Grilled Cheese" can be confusing to a Brit when they hear it for the first time, because a) it's not immediately obvious that it means a sandwich, and b) we wouldn't usually refer to something cooked in a frying pan as "grilled".
I'm not sure how popular they still are, but at least into the 90s many British kitchens would have had a "toastie machine" - basically like a waffle iron, but the plates are designed to seal the bread into little triangle sandwiches. These machines would inevitably produce toasties with filings that are lava-hot, so caution was required! These days, people are maybe more likely to make their toasties in a pan, or using a panini press, or perhaps that's just me.

As someone who has taught my kids how to make a microwave cheese bechamel sauce, they didn't add flour or cream, both of which need to be cooked out before you add milk and finally cheese at the end. Adding all that into a cup and pressing start will burn everything to a crisp and scald/separate the dairy before the pasta ever cooks.
Hi! Would you mind sharing your method?
@@magdao.9612 not OP but cheese sauce in the microwave is really easy.
Grate some cheese and add in a dash of milk. Microwave it for ten seconds, take it out, give it a whisk and repeat till the cheese and the milk create a smooth sauce. Add in your spices (I usually add in some salt, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, oregano and chili flakes) and microwave it again for 20 seconds.
Sorry I'm late. Method is to go by your cup size ratio. (A bigger cup makes more sauce and a smaller one less.
Fill half of cup with cheese of choice. Any cheese of your preference will do.
Leave it out of the cup to add in later.
Put one tablespoon flour or cornstarch to 4 Tbsp milk. Mix until their are no lumps. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir well. Keep microwaving in increments till milk begins to thicken, indicating the starch is properly cooked out. If you have a different microwave it may take 4 or more 30 second bursts to start the cooking out but usually it's under 7 minutes to cook out such a small amount of sauce. If things start to bubble up, add a splash more milk but don't add any salt as it will increase how rapidly the sauce comes to a boil. If the milk goes brown or lumps are separating out, you need to start over.
Once thickened, add cheese in pinches, letting the residual heat melt it a bit before putting it in for more 30 second intervals. At this stage, if it's too thick add milk, too thin, you will have to boil off more of the water inside the cup. By the time you add cheese things are very prone to boiling over. Watch the cup carefully, slowly add cheese until sauce is at desired cheesiness and consistency. Some people prefer their sauce runny with more or with less cheese flavor. Add a tsp to tbsp of butter and one tbsp of cream to finish for an extra rich sauce. Finishing cooktime should be a minute maybe 2. Any more and you risk burning your sauce. If the butter separates out, remove from microwave and whip rapidly in a larger bowl. (warmed is best, I add pasta water from the stove and then return the water to the pot just to warm the vessel). The key to getting things to emulsify is how much you can balance the oil to protien to liquid to emulsifying agent ratio. In this case it's your starch. If you overdo the fats your sauce may never come together and you have to work out whether to add starch, milk, or, rarely, more cheese (the last being a double edged sword, it contains both high fat and high protein content.) Season to taste with salt pepper and herbs/garlic. Apply to your choice of bread or pasta.

For example having a role in sabotaging the govt's attempt at upgrading our internet infrastructure, pushing climate change denial, and minimal reporting on liberal party (conservative) scandals, while constantly slamming the labor and greens party members (moderate and progressive parties).
@@izzy4559 I was just going to say this- both the sides are corrupt in their own way, and the actual who get affected people don't win in most scenarios... While it would be amazing to have unbiased, fact-based news, I doubt any country on this planet has that
I agree it is a huge issue. (And to antholns, people don't choose to publish on Google. Google is a search engine that crawls and indexes content). But there is some legal nuance that is important to understand. In the US and EU (I don't know about Australia), copywrite does not apply to facts. If I measure the temperature and publish it, that fact is free for anyone to use. Creative content (accompanying text, pictures, etc.) is different, but I don't think anyone will be able to stop Google from harvesting data (weather, stock market numbers, birthdays, and so on) and presenting it however they want.
I will add that it is a good thing that facts belong to everyone. Imagine if I was able to, say, measure the height of the statue of liberty and publish it, and then no one else could ever do the same. That would be bad for everyone.

If I wanted chocolate-flavoured sheer khorma (which is my region's name for a sweet vermicelli dessert), I'd just add cocoa powder (maybe Dutch-processed?) to the original recipe, and add a little more liquid to keep the consistency. Or just directly add chocolate chips/chopped chocolate to the hot dessert, and go the way of a ganache. Or I'd make a thin chocolate custard/pudding base and add milk-softened vermicelli to that. Idk who needs to hear this: Ann may share a general goal as the content farms she debunks, but she takes time, does research, and implements expertise and heart. So if you ever felt a disconnect watching these, she makes videos for people, not for views.
I feel grateful for Ann for creating these debunking videos, but at the same time I feel sad for her too.
If you notice, you will see that she has already beginning to lose views since she started the debunking trend. From then on, only her debunking videos got the most views, whereas all her other works got much less, instead of them all sharing great views like before.
In other words, UA-cam's algorithm is seeing that Ann's debunking videos are what are selling, and only boost them, while neglecting all of her other great works and crafts, thus making them much less harder to come across to viewers.
I hope that people will still come to see Ann as a great baker and food expert, not as just a debunker.

We should all just stop using google tbh. I'd like to stop youtube too because of their shitty policies but honestly that would mean you can't support creators on youtube anymore. Google however is just a search engine so nothing is lost by switching to a different one. i've heard good things about duckduckgo since it has much better privacy policies than google.

What madlad in history looked at a beach and thought “you know what, I’m gonna heat that sand up until it’s hotter than lava and see what happens”. Like how on earth did we discover how to make glass
No one knows.
Maybe they had a fire, and decided to throw in a bucket of sand to keep the fire going. After the fire died, there were clear shiny things in it. Then they decided the sand did it, and continued to do it since then. The end
@@emu_vee I don’t think a casual fire like that would be able to reach the molten temperatures needed to make glass. We probably just stumbled upon glass near a volcano or summit and tried to replicate it from there
Lighting strikes can in rare cases cause massive chunks of glass so maybe we discovered it that way
The Roman historian Pliny reported that the first man-made glass was accidentally produced by Phoenician merchants in 5,000 BCE, when, while resting on a beach, they placed cooking pots on sodium-rich rocks near a fire. The heat from the fire melted the rocks and mixed them with the sand, forming molten glass.
An important point to be noted: Archeologists have not been able to confirm Pliny’s recount.

Thank you - loved this. Interesting thing about Google (which I hadn't thought about but is very true). Regarding the dyed napkin: wool *can* be dyed with food colouring (the artificial stuff like tartrazine and sunset yellow) with a small amount of acid (like vinegar or citric acid). If it's done correctly the water does go clear (just like ordinary dying). It does need to be heated though. So if the soft drink has artificial colour in it then wool can probably be dyed with it. (There is a whole thing of doing "Kool aid dyeing" - but I've not tried that - only food colours).
