Agreed. The Renault 3.5L V10 is probably the most iconic sounding F1 car ever, the 3.5L Cosworth V8 and 3.5L Ferrari V12 a very close second. But I also think the 3.0 V10s they used until '97 sounded better than the standardized V10 reg and grooved tread tire cars from 98 to 05. I know people like the Hakkinen/Schumacher/Montoya/Alonso era cars too but for me '89-'97 3.5/3.0L cars with slick tires were the better looking and better sounding F1 cars IMHO.

Yep. The FW16 was complete crap. It started the season as the fixed 2nd best car but ended the season as the best car, since Benetton stopped the development early to focus on 95. The FW16 looked amazing and sounded even better. Newey himself Addresses his mistakes with this car in his book. He changed it around. Sadly, Senna was completely right and the car was crap and the Benetton was indeed cheating. Even sadder is the fact that Senna never got to drive the great FW16. He only drove the crappy version.
Ayrton was about to sign Williams for 92. Honda CEO called him and pledged his loyalty for everything he was provided since 87. Senna was very sensible about such a value. in summer 92, Honda CEO announced retirement from F1. His fans were disappointed by such timing, and the outcome later...
My first experience of F1 was being taken to this practice (I’m not sure if it was this exact day or another) as a 9 year old at Estoril to watch Williams testing. I remember watching them drive down the main straight, hearing the scream of the Renault V10, thinking there is actually a human being inside that missile that is in control of the car!! I couldn’t quite believe it
+shimric20 here's my opinion, if there was unlimited formula 1 stuff today, then yes the car would be packed with computers, but the cars would be going so fast that you'd see driver skill and strength there. this means that all of the dtiver assists wouldnt really matter. im talking 300+ mph.

was there any difference between the FW15 & FW16 as I could be wrong but the FW15 looks easier to drive than the FW16 so why did they not use this car instead of the FW16 or did it not meet the requirements for the rule changes so they could not use it.

Yeah this era was pretty simplistic but this particular chassis may have been quite the opposite. The FW15 was the beginning of the incarnation of active suspension and other very heavily computerized chassis systems to generate untold amounts of grip and speed. The technologies used in this chassis were since banned and have not been used since. And if this is the FW15C then it is definitely a rolling computer with wings lol!
This is the 15c painted in 1994 livery. This is the 1993 active car...probably was at the end of the 93 season. There are a TON of differences to the 16 that are obvious. Prost didn't drive this car. Prost drove the FW15A (testing), FW15B (season start) and the king FW15C (almost entire season). Prost never drove the FW15D shown in this video. It was still the same amazing car as the FW15C but without any of the electronics and with the new 1994 painting. This car was a drag and awful to race. Had Prost raced this car in 93, Senna would be WDC in about half a season.

This car the FW16 wasn't equipped with an driver aid like active suspension or traction control. This was a pure racing car.

The fw15c got a lot of electronic aids and the driving aids were banned since 1993 so since the driving aids were banned the car was really unstable

The 1994 car had higher side pods and a more pointy nose than this car. The easiest way to recognize one from the other.
