    A knife-wielding man who killed two schoolboys in 2018 has been sentenced to death by a court in Shanghai, China.
    The Shanghai No1 Intermediate People's Court handed down the sentence to Huang Yichuan on May 23, 2019. Also injured another child and an adult during his attack near the Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School last June.

      @@june6661 Human rights have a certain threshold;limited in a sense of the severity of the crime being carried out.This clearly is the right choice made by China,u just cost the lives of two children and it is justifiable as he doesn't suffer from any mental issues etc.He did the crime due to not holding in his overwhelming inner emotions and tbh he should be better off rationalize and keep it to himself.

    I love it when justice is dished out like that. Murderers should stop using mental illness as an excuse to escape the gallows. Your excuse is mental illness, but what about the victims? What do they have to deserve death?

      It really shouldn't be "for once", as criminal laws in China (including Taiwan but excluding hk and Macau) is highly logical, due to being based on the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (German Civil Code), which had a revolutionary impact throughout the world, on all aspects of law.

      but the chinese legal system has a problem tho. most legal systems assume that youre innocent and people have to prove you guilty, while in china youre assumed guilty and you have to prove yourself innocent. proving yourself innocent is actually way harder than others proving you guilty sooo there will be misjudgments :(

      China doesn't usually use firing squads. What they typically do is tie the guy up and shoot him in the back of the head. Saves time and effort.

      This is called 'revenge', not 'justice'.
      Also, data clearly shows that death penalties do not work preventing crimes. Data also shows that many people get wrongfully convicted and executed, but I am pretty sure you don't mind that as long as you can see a bit of bloodshed disguised as 'justice'.

And data also shows that death penalties worked wonders in preventing drug trafficking. Under Mosaic Law, the families of victims are given the right to inflict "an eye for an eye"...

    Abolishing the death penalty is the dumbest thing a judicial system can do. Because there's no limit on the heinousness of the crime one can do, but you impose a limit on the maximum amount of punishment one can receive. That's not fair.

      But the problem in China is, even many police on patrol don't carry guns, in most occations the most powerful weapon they carry is a baton. A month ago, a wanted man stabbed 2 police to death who was about to arrest him. In most countries, the suspect gets shot, but in China the police gets stabbed.

    This incident really shocked me because I went to the same place and exited at the same time 2 days prior for an "interview" to get a place in the school. It was clearly horrible luck for those poor children and their parents and my deepest condolences for all those affected

    You see, the thing is that when u severely punish a person for a crime, provided that its broadcasted across the nation, no one will ever gonna do it
    If all of America allows death sentence, the crime rate will drop drastically. Yes, those sentence to death may not have a second chance, but they are part of a reminder for people contemplating to commit the crime, to not do it

      The average height in China is usually pretty short. If you're like 5'9 you look really tall relative to everyone else.

      The human mind is biased to itself, every human is affected to varying degrees.
      That is the likely explanation, as people are more accepting of arguements that support their side than the other.

    That is one of the reasons there is very little violent crime in China. The punishment is severe and swift. This combined with drugs offences also being punished very hard leads to a safer society in general. In my 13 years in China now I have never felt scared or in danger when walking the street late at night. They do have scams and pick pockets, but very little person on person crimes.

      China popo uses the same uniform throughout the country. That's the winter outfit and is the one that looks cool. The summer ones look much lamer but from a practical standpoint it works.
