That my Color scheme for my Stormcast. I like the Celestial Vindicators color schemes
personally, i prefer using tamiya clear blue mixed with clear green. It dries glossy unlike contrast, so you don't dull down the metallic at all. Also it airbrushes better because tamiya paints thinned with alcohol dry in seconds. I know that Vince Venturella uses a 3:1 ratio of blue to green for his alpha legion. My personal scheme uses a blue/purple colorshift as the basecoat, then a few thin layers of tamiya green zenithaled over it. the key that i've found with color shift paints is to hold your airbrush around 4-5 inches away and to give the model a very light dusting with it, then allow it to sit for a minute before you go back and do another layer. if you apply it too thick, you can get this kind of milky appearance where it pools.

One of my first experiences in warhammer (I started in 8th) was seeing my friend’s smash captain tear apart my trigon like it was nothing.
the funniest to me is that Tau 9th edition could have an insanely good smash captain if you took a commander and gave them onager gauntlets and the thermoneutronic projector.

9:00 I would like to note that Orks have Boss on Bike and the deffkilla wartrike to also fill the role of a smash captain. Important for the 'junkyard' wing of orks.
Necrons and admech being unable to build smash captains brings up a cool subject. Faction archetype gaps; like who is missing a distraction carnifex?
Necrons *do* have a 'smash captain equivalent' which is the Transcendent C'Tan with the sempiternal weave, but as for most other Necron things, not only is it far stronger than the equivalent from inferior races, but it also costs three times as much points.
Ad-mech absolutely could have a smash captain type unit, either a crazy tech priest, a mad legio cybernetica construct, a pteraxii type character, but GW don't care enough about the ad-mech to give them anything cool beyond the occasional token ranged/buffing skitarii character here and there

I wish the Blood Angels detachment still gave +1 to wound on charge. Unfortunately, that was 8th and 9th.

15:00 As far as I'm concerned, the Smash Sorcerer didn't die. He just ascended to Daemonhood, and is a Daemon Prince (with wings) now. Moving up in the world.
Tzeentch thought it was really funny, and would make Khorne really mad, so he promoted the Smash Sorcerer.
I'm very fond of my smash palatine in sisters of battle. It does take a bit of setup but she can consistently run around wounded with the character res strat. 65 points with the blade of st ellynor, 6 attacks on 2s, strength 6 ap-2 d4, and she can do a mortal on each successful wound as well. She's tagged kharn, an onager dunecrawler and a hive tyrant in various games.
Something worse but equally fun, Hospitaller with blade of st elanor. It's awful, but it's so funny when it does anything.
You can also do it in DA, with the Heavenfall Blade, get +1 to A, S and D giving you A6 S10 AP-2 and D3 on the charge, and then if you are battleshocked you get +2 to those, giving you A7 S11 AP-2 and D4, which is really nice, wanted to add how the Sons of the Lion bring to this topic

Smash sorcerer is no longer possible because he was responsible for so much death and bullshit that Tzeentch promoted him to deamonhood. Also, thanks for bringing up Blood Angels. Almost had me worried you wouldn’t!
Original Smash Captains used to be Bikers, may have been a good idea to just lead with "fast, for example with a Jump Pack"

I know y'all said you weren't going to use strategems but there is a really good Battle Tactic for the Gladius detachment. 0CP because it's a Captain, you get +1 to Wound on the charge *and* +1AP in the Assualt Doctrine. On top of Strength 11 and the extra attacks.
The World Eaters has the Berzerker Glaive, which essentially promotes every eligible model into a Smash Captain, thanks to being innately fast due to blessings. Funnily enough a lot of the potential candidates feature dev wounds in some capacity, namely the Daemon Prince and MoE.
God, the editing today was ON. POINT.
The Death Guard DP is also a crazy Smash Captain with its dev wounds and forcing battleshock on the charge. It also has an anti-infantry flamer and an enhancement for +1 attack and strength or +2 if it’s defending an objective. Combine that with -1T and -1 save for being Death Guard and it is a monster when contesting the center board with Rotigus and Mortarion.
As a Guard Player, our answer to the "Smash Captain Equivalent" is just Sly Marbo
Super cheap, has the best deep strike shenanigans in the game, good shooting (with precision, to assassinate characters), great melee profile, and you get access to the catachan stratagems just for including him
100% interested in the challenge army! I know you've been interested in alpha legion for a while! You'll even be able to test out all of the subfaction rules ;)
I know it doesn’t tick all the boxes but I love the amount of damage an overlord with void scythe can whip out sometimes with hungry void poped, 3A at STR 13, AP 4, D3 and dev wounds, even without the extra str and ap from the strat it still feels nutty.
Speaking as a dedicated loyalist marines player, I absolutely love the idea of the "loyal" Alpha Legion. They're easily my favourite "chaos" space marines by a wide margin, especially after reading Alpharius - Head of the Hydra. Looking forward to reading Harrowmaster next, and hoping that holds up.
I have to say I'm glad the Smash Captain is still a viable idea because way back in 9th I started a conversion which combined the Imperium Issue 5 captain, the Knight Azyros legs and wings, a sanguinary guard jump pack and other Blood Angels bits and a storm shield/hammer, and it looks fucking glorious so I really want to get it painted and on the table in 10th.
The Autarch Wayleaper actually makes for a pretty good Smash Captain. It’s got a jump pack or wings, depending on which model you bought, and the Star Glaive is a pretty strong melee weapon as far as Amish Space Elves go. The enhancements you can run on it strengthen it either offensive or defensive, with Fate’s Messenger allowing you to change a hit/wound/save roll to a 6, or the Phoenix Gem allowing the Autarch to stand back up after death on like a 2+, and get back to shredding things. Also it having access to a Melta gun AND Lone Operative is nuts.

My current version for Necron is an Overlord with Sempiternal weave with a small bodyguard unit and a pyschomancer with veil of darkness attached so they can teleport in and charge gloriously into the enemy as a tanky meat blender, plus its a platform for the tachyon arrow which is a great opening salvo

As a Flesh Tearers player, Gabriel Seth hits like a truck for 90 pts.
6A base, 7 on charge, usually adding 2 because of ability, hitting on 2’s with sustained hits. S9, AP2, Dmg3.
I put him with Vanguard Vets, and Sang priest so AP goes to 3. If needed you can throw red rampage on for lethal hits and lance.
I took out 7 Tson Terminators in one go, granted he rolled poorly on invul saves, but the dmg 3 is pretty big
I'd love to see the challenge army. I think the alpha legion makes it thematically appropriate. I'd love to see updates and stuff about it. I also think Spiteful Idiots would be a great name for the chapter lol
Would love to see an episode dedicated to different armies' smash captains. It'd be a good insight as a new player into what can make a strong model/character
For tsons the exalted sorcerer on disc works pretty well to. It's got 1 more move and it's got a nice psychic flamer spell and a force staff to buff with vortex. The real kicker is it's almost half the cost
With my friends whom i still play ninth with, my smash captain has become a bit of a legend. Salamanders jump captain with anvil of strength for +2 strength, relic blade and combi flamer with the relic i can’t remember the name of, then -1cp to add a second WL trait and give him forge master for +2 toughness. That mfer comfortably takes on dreadnoughts, leman russes and pretty much any HQ that can be fielded against him.
Ah yes smash captains. Whilst playing as Smurf marines vs Eldar, I used Robute Gulliman to SMASH Yvraine the emissary of Ynnead.
How about that in AOS, tiny goblins are riding Squigs, and in 40k it is larger Orks. Someone should discuss Squig evolution through the timeline.
Fun easy topic that may be interesting would be an Imperium/Xenos/Chaos draft. Pick 5 characters in terms of power level/lore relevance/the rule of cool and see who has the better squad. Just food for thought

Well, since it's not happening, I'm going to share my idea
0 (optional): Pay MSRP to...
1. Acquire a Rhino
2. Build and/or kitbash the Rhino so that it looked beaten, broken, rusted, run-down, etc. I don't want a functioning Rhino, I want a terrain piece.
3. Paint in whatever chapter colors you want, it really doesn't matter as long as it looks beat to hell. My space marine are dark angels, so with that what you will.
4. This is the most important part. I want 'RHINOS ARE FREE' "spraypainted" on one of the larger panels. The rest of that phrase is optional.
Admittedly, a Rhino might be a bit much to build and paint for $200, but I was hoping the novelty and inside joke would carry it to approval.
Death Guard also has an issue with smash captains because they are VERRRRYYYYY slow, and for the most part, the only thing that hits hard is a lord of contagion with the deadly pathogen upgrade, 6 attacks with full re-rolls at strength 10 ap-3 damage 3, if you go away from power armour models then the demon prince is a force because he gets (with the dp upgrade) 7 attacks at strength 11 ap -2 damage 3 with dev wounds.
I miss the winged daemon prince with claws from 8th. Always brought one against my buddy's guard list and would just pop tanks like a firework show.

Smash D Prince is even nicer than mentioned, just because of what Tsons do. What do they do? Turn off armour saves sometimes. So that sweep is -6AP when you need it to be :)
Honestly, even a D Prince on foot isn't terrible alongside some flamer rubrics. When you can charge, do so. When you can't, move forward with stealth. When something charges you, 9d6 precision Overwatch attacks on their character/unit works ok as well.
Berellio (spelling? I'm so sorry) is a national treasure and should be featured on every episode.

Yall missed the best solo smash captain in 10th I think, gravis captain running solo with any enhancement that gives him a fnp. Hits pretty hard and is surprisingly tough to kill on his own. Pretty fun unit I've seen some people running. Half damage, 4++, and a FNP.
A funny "smash captain" that ive been running is the honour vehement on the techmarine, once vengeance of the omnissiah kicks in it gets like 10 attacks, ive had it one turn tanks on a charge
Giving me memories of Chapter Master Smash F***** utilizing as much from 6th ed Clan Raukkan as it could while riding around with his bike deathstar.

He doesn't have a jump pack, but deathwatches Smash Captain is:
Captain in Gravis Armour with power fist and relic blade (5 attacks at WS2+ S8 AP-2 D2 and 2 extra attacks at WS2+ S5 AP-2 D2)
Thief of Secret (+1S, AP and D and if you kill a model in melee, you get another +1S, AP D)
So 5 attacks S10 AP-4 D4 and 2 attacks at S7 AP-4 D4 hitting on 2s
And his ability is, that you halve the incoming damage, so he can survive quite some time on his own or against precision attacks.
I miss having a smash character
I went from having my super chaos terminator lord with his crazy nightlords bullshit 3d3 extra attacks on his lightning claws and sendung him in to murder everyone he can and eventually get caught up in a duel with my opponent's smash character to "he technically exsists if you want to bring an extra 200 points of terminators"
Chaos in general has some weird ones, depending on your definition of smash captain. Syl'esske, hellflayers, contorted epitomes, skullmasters, skulltaker, haarken, etc all "kind of" fit the smash captain mould. It doesn't really matter if they're epic or generic, when there's so many of them, for rules of three purposes. You could probably field an entire smash captain army pretty easily with CSM + daemon allies.
Even a Wardog Karnivore fits it, if you don't mind paying the points for a heavy smash "captain".
I love the leader system, I think it makes sense. I really miss the old relics and warlord traits though, I loved making my own unique characters.
You’ll live on in 9th my 12 attack Gravis Captain.
I remember my jump lord in 8th and most of 9th which had a bunch of attacks from lightning claws hitting on 2s rerolling 1s and full wound rerolls
I just built a Deathwatch Smash Captain from the new kit using the LH DW Storm Shield (and Intercessor Arm #54) and put a Grey Knights Terminator Force Hammer on the pistol arm. Super easy and would work with almost any Storm Shield or Thunderhammer from any marine kit.
If you're new to 40k, sourcing bits can be a pain, but you can always ask a long term player, they always have tons of bits, we throw away nothing. :D
I first learned this term from Age of Sigmar. My favorite faction is the Idoneth Deepkin, and I hear the Akhelian King referred to as a "Smash King." It "flies" (it's underwater), has 14" movement, and has a lot of melee attacks that can also be enhanced.
My favorite smash captain variant in 9th was the interrogator chaplain with a master crafted thunder hammer and jump pack pumping out 5 damage per hit
Just have to give a shoutout to the World Eaters smash prince. Demon Prince with Berserker's Glaive. Dude absolutely wrecks face! Awesome episode as always guys. Keep up the good work!

Unfortunately Blood Angels dont get +1 to wound from the detachment, it +1 Attack and Strength on charge. Though you could add the Enhancement Archangels Shard to give [Lance] which would do +1 wound on charge to make up for it, it's unfortunately the most expensive enhancement at 25 pts. Alternatively theres a strategem that gives [Lance] and [Lethal Hits] for 1CP or you could use the captains free CP for it.
Currently I use an aggressor capitan with with honor vehement as one but I throw him around using a librarian dred which covers that jump ability plus being part of a unit “led” by the apothecary biologist means that I can talk my way into him also having leathal hits added on to things only works because I’m a blood angel player I also think you could do something like that while playing the salamanders detachment again as a blood angel a
So the sanguinor himself is a premade smash cap
I for one can’t wait for Brad to own every army. Can’t wait for 6 months from now when he gets really into Death Korp of Krieg and starts building the clone boys.

There’s also a pretty powerful black templar smash captain build (get default jump captain and give him the power fist/thunder hammer and give him the enhancement “Perditions edge” it’s only 15 points, this will increase the strength and AP of the melee by 1 and if suffer not the unclean to live vow is active you get an extra attack, also if that vow is active you get both benefits of the stratagem “crusaders wrath” this will increase all of your melee weapons AP by 1 and if said vow is active then +1 strength making it 6 attacks at S11 AP-4 2 damage with lethal hits and the regular squad getting S6 ap-2 chainswords. Who also have lethal hits

I'm looking forward to trying out the jump pack cpt in blood angels. I'm hoping there's an update to the jump pack sanguinary priest. If so with the artisan of war enhancement we get 7 attack at str 7, ap 4, 2 dmg relic weapons. With a 2+ 4++.

the world eaters Master of executions with the berserker glaive literally soloes an entire chaos knights army by himself in our most recent local tournament
For the space marine army build you could magnetise the tops of the backpacks so you can put the cross and the toilet bowl and so on at will
My personal smash captain is Exalted Champion with Talisman of Burning Blood attached to Chosen for getting 2d3 to strength and d3 to attacks. So you get anything from A6 S7 -2 2 to A8 S11, and Chosen for ability through advance-charge.
Alternative would be Lord Discordant for his lot of melee weapons (A5-7 S7-9 + A4 S7-9 + magma cutters) or Daemon Prince with wings (6 rolls for MWs + either A7-9 S11-13 or A15-17 S9-11)

Just wanna say that i totally stole your guys' idea of playing alpha legion cloaked as other space marine chapters for my first army, im also gonna build a bunch of other stuff to use as "loyalist" csm, such as possessed as admec rustalkers and cultists as agents of the imperium. I love the idea, alpha legion are my fave chapter and i wanted to play similarly!
Now I wanna do the same thing even more!
T'au actually had a melee smash captain in 9th in the form of a Coldstar Commander with one relics and one prototype system: the Onager Gauntlet and the Thermoneutronic Projector. Onager Gauntlet made your melee much stronger, and Thermoneutronic Projector added D6+2 attacks with it's good profile as well. You would have also taken Precision of the Hunter to give the dude full hit and wound rerolls. Depending on how well you roll, this dude could roll up and delete a unit of space marines, but it also had great AP, so you could high roll and kill a Knight (though thya is being very optimistic, so not too likely), but you would have a higher chance of killing a strong tank or monster.
Now, T'au doesn't have those relics or prototype systems anymore, so the melee Coldstar is a thing of the past now.
The OG Smash Captain was blood angel captain that had a relic, trait, was infused with 7-9 CP and a psychic power. Not a cheap thing at all.
Smash Papa was Fun for Genestealer Cult in 9th. Fishing for 6s and then having 3 Separate Save Rolls to Keep him Alive
The chaplain on bike smash version was a thing even on 2nd edition. I used to equipo one with psycannon and seeker ammo
As a Dark Eldar player: Our Smash Captain is Drazhar in a Venom lol. Or a Master Succubus in 9th.
World Eaters Master of Executions with the beserker glaive is a great smash character
I think a Necron Smash Captain (or Smash Team)
Would be:
Orikan+Anrakyr+5immortals+2cryptothralls.
Orikan activates his 1-time ability goes to: 6A, WS2, S12, Every successful wound is critical and devestating. D3 dmg each.
Anrakyr gives +1 to wound to the unit.
Immortals give Re-roll 1s to Wound (or full re-roll whene enemy is on objective)
If we do Strategems, you can use both/either Hungry Void for +1S and +1AP
Or Epic Challenge to give Orikan Precision.
I did the unitcrunch:
You can delete on average 5 terminators.
You can leave Angron on 1w, on average.
Orikan can delete almost any leading character (I've killed Abbadon this way twice.)

I used to do smach Overlords for whatever reason in all editions. Espevially with WT for attacks ans relic scythes.
My “smash” captain for Firestorm is the jump captain leading vanguard vets with hand flamers and barbecuing one target out of deep strike with immolation protocols
i remember in 9th id just started playing with my friend (space marine vs guard) and it was wipe the board of his 5 infantry squads then get stomped by his 3 leman russes cause my anti tank was agrax with the bonus strength and damage strategems, then captain witht he same thing and i miss that soo much in 10th
