So this really helps out a lot and I really appreciate the work you put into this for those of us who have seizures.
@@inferno7289 That's like saying to elderly "Stay inside because we all want freedom, but you're at risk of serious harm from COVID" If everyone just stayed inside, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, would it? Admittedly my analogy is a bit hard to follow, but what I'm saying is, while yes it is their responsibility to make sure they are safe, it is also our responsibility to help them keep themselves safe. That is exactly what Protagonistical has done. Helping those with epilepsy stay safe, while being able to have fun / enjoy themselves. It's why games have epilepsy warnings, rather than telling people to not play games.
I never understood why games especially think flashing lights are scary. They are annoying more than they are scary. Especially with the risk of giving people seizures, I just never understood why they were so prominent.

I just thought of something that would be an amazing psychological novel somewhat similar to this game. Something like this: The entire novel is from the MC's perspective, and they are seeing all sorts of odd events, hearing knocking, unable to open many doors, can move light objects like pictures, hears screams and whispers, and it messes with their mind until they end up curled up in a corner ignoring all that happens around it. Late in the story, the perspective switches to third person. It turns out that the MC is the ghost and it can see and hear things that are tied to the past of other spirits (blood on the walls, all the candles, the demonic rituals) and it views time at a greatly increased speed. The state and shape of the hallways changing, the placement of items, and the flickering of the lights is all just time passing and people moving things as time passes. The whispers are just the sound of conversations, the radio static is the audio changing rapidly, and the knocking is minor construction (boarding windows, fixing walls, etc). In the end, the MC still cannot tell what is going on and simply ends up becoming a derelict phantom in a dusty corner of an old house long abandoned.
Markiplier: "No I hate you", "No you leave me alone", "Oooh braziers", "Oooh is that an axe? Can I take it?", "Oooh another movie" *Game ends* Markiplier: *insert surprised Pikachu face meme here*
“I WILL KILL YOU, you don’t think you can bleed??” Sounds like some hard line from a anime, like it was said to some demon in dororo or something, but... instead it was mark talking to a coat rack...
Coat racks are evil being. Don't get me wrong. They'll kill you in a split second if you do not watch your back~ better to kill themor keepthem friendly. Key to victory, use them as they're intended for and they'll gain respect for you
As a scare actor, i think this would be funny SPECIFICALLY from mark bc he sounds vaguely terrified when he does it and and stuff like that is so amusing
I think he was schizophrenic and ended up hallucinating... Killing his wife and child but in his warped mind he believed his wife was compelled by a cult to kill their child.... Anyway I think that's what the ending was saying and he's still hallucinating to this day.
@@Lunara_3923 yet all of those commenters can’t name one game with that same hallway….I don’t think games share their creations with other random creators, don’t believe everything you see on ther internet, but hey maybe that’s just me..
@@linknotzelda I think a lot of indie devs actually share assets and textures and whatnot, I'm pretty sure I've seen some indie games mention what assets they used in their credits, so it's not that uncommon of an idea but yeah if people can't name the games it's probably an effect where there was a very similar house in another game and they just thought it was the same.
The PT is strong with this one. Not a bad game overall, albeit I feel it went on a bit too long for what little it was trying to portray and present. Also the main issue with haunted house-style games like this is that most of them feature no real actual threat to the player, which detracts from the overall fear aspect, as the player doesn't actually need to try and escape/survive the monster when it does attack. Which makes all the spooky sounds and imagery just come off as cheap jumpscares rather than an actual potential dangers. This is something that PT did really well but a lot of its imitators fail to acknowledge and capitalize on.
I agree with you, this game did drag on for a bit too long. Now that wouldn't have been a problem had the narrative been more clear and consice. Another thing, the reason this game doesn't actually have a "monster" that's a direct threat to the player is because it's a psychological horror game. Psychological horror games focus on the feelings and emotions of the user in lieu of their external persona. That's what this game was trying to achieve with their narrative I presume. Unfortunately however, the game's story got convoluted to the point where the psychological aspect of the game was poorly executed.
@@1llustriousofficial Very good points. I will say that whilst psychological horror games don't need an active threat, they can still definitely benefit from it. As fear is one of the strongest emotions and most potent psychological stressors. And I definitely feel this game would have benefited from that, as it would have made the time- and space-loops way more intense whilst also benefiting the plot by acting as a distraction for the player as the story slowly unfolded. Really this game either needed to be shorter or it needed more clever story/action throughout.

For those of you unaware, "jedem das seine" means "to each his own" and was displayed as a cruel joke over the entrance to the Buchenwald concentration camp. Edit: February 28th, 1993, the date displayed on the picture at 32:20, is the date of the beginning of Waco siege on the Branch Davidian cult complex. Not sure if that's relevant to the story or just an odd coincidence.
Yes it was at the gates of Buchenwald but it's more like, karma will come and get you. May it be good or bad. Hence, jedem das seine, or to each his own. That phase is practically illegal here in Germany depending on the context.
The atmosphere of the game, as well as the lighting, are actually quite good. But, like the creator's previous game, the story structure is just all over the place. The only reason why I'm watching is because of the entertainment value that Mark brings.
I love the consideration the editors take to warn us of the flashing lights. The only addition to that I would suggest would be an audio cue of sorts when it's ok to look again so I don't have to keep peeking.

For those in need, epilepsy warnings for flashing lights are in effect from 8:40 - 9:20, 10:48 - 11:36 (11:39 if you want to be entirely safe), 11:44 - 11:47, 13:52 - 13:58 (fairly minor but still included), 19:58 - 20:02 (very minor), 20:06 - 20:19, 20:24 - 21:00, 26:05 - 22:20, 23:23 - 24:05, 24:19 - 24:21 (minor), 25:59 - 26:11, 29:23 - 29:33 (also minor), 31:49 - 32:39, 33:18 - 33:28, 33:41 - 33:51, 34:13 - 34:23, 34:56 - 35:05, 46:41 - 46:50, 47:11 - 47:29, 48:07 - 48:14, 48:24 - 48:29, and 51:15 - 51:25.
These are the timestamps for Lixian's warnings to when I think it's safe to look, along with a few others that I included just to be on the safe side. I apologize if I missed anything. If there's a time stamp you think I should include, please comment and I will add them.
Hope this helps! Stay safe!
I don't have epilepsy, but I would just like to say thank you because I know how much of a pain timestamps can be and was actually contemplating about making some myself. Have a great day!
I was looking for this to like it. I was hoping someone did this. I don't have epilepsy but it still hurts my eyes a bit so seeing this is amazing! Thank you
I do have a form of epilepsy and I will tell you, thank you so very much. Its so frustrating sometimes when I want to watch a markiplier video or any video most of the time I end up just clicking away from it instead of watching because I'm deathly afraid of having any of my episodes. So this really helps out a lot and I really appreciate the work you put into this for those of us who have seizures.
or maybe don't watch the video if it puts your health at risk so much
@@inferno7289 That's like saying to elderly "Stay inside because we all want freedom, but you're at risk of serious harm from COVID" If everyone just stayed inside, it wouldn't be as much of an issue, would it?
Admittedly my analogy is a bit hard to follow, but what I'm saying is, while yes it is their responsibility to make sure they are safe, it is also our responsibility to help them keep themselves safe. That is exactly what Protagonistical has done. Helping those with epilepsy stay safe, while being able to have fun / enjoy themselves. It's why games have epilepsy warnings, rather than telling people to not play games.

I just thought of something that would be an amazing psychological novel somewhat similar to this game.
Something like this:
The entire novel is from the MC's perspective, and they are seeing all sorts of odd events, hearing knocking, unable to open many doors, can move light objects like pictures, hears screams and whispers, and it messes with their mind until they end up curled up in a corner ignoring all that happens around it.

The atmosphere of the game, as well as the lighting, are actually quite good. But, like the creator's previous game, the story structure is just all over the place. The only reason why I'm watching is because of the entertainment value that Mark brings.
“You guys at home better be watching with lights off”
The sun outside: *I'm about to ruin this whole man's career*
*sees hanged figure*
Mark: That’s a problem!
My brain: Mark: That’s a Piñata!
Just don't eat the "candy" that falls out after hitting it.
XD it's true
Apparently we're all messed up people.
"Hit 'em!" 0:23
I love the consideration the editors take to warn us of the flashing lights. The only addition to that I would suggest would be an audio cue of sorts when it's ok to look again so I don't have to keep peeking.
Came here to say this
you shouldnt be watching in the first place
@@editoe_b ah yes everyone knows that if you have epilepsy you shouldn’t watch any youtube video ever
@@anzuaoix go back to school, I think you forgot how to read, or maybe it’s a thinking problem, in any case don’t be so stupid
@@editoe_b Or you know, maybe explain what you mean instead of being so unnecessarily rude? Sure they were a bit snippy but that was uncalled for
4:24 Finally! Someone acknowledges the way Mark says room.
Mark: YOU BETTER BE WATCHING WITH THE LIGHTS OFF!
Me: That’s a no from me dawg.
Are you scared?
Oh I did turn the lights off when I waited a long time to watch this a little before midnight. Perfect timing to do so!

lol honestly, I would have never remembered the video about find yourself, but that flashback brought it all back. That was unironically a very good job on lixians part.
