- Army Corp of Engineer lands are overlooked as potential public land hunting sites. Let me show how I scout it - what I look for in deer signs or areas of food, etc.

Please take us on more scouting trips. I find myself going on scouting trips and focusing on “buck sign” rubs/scrapes and not on the subtle stuff that really connects the dots. I would like to learn more on plant and tree identification.
I will start when it start cooling down some.

I was begging for deer hunting stuff..man i really like these types too..its nice showing some different types of wild stuff that deer eat so we can recognize it when we hunt here in the south..i find they like them bushes w the bright green leaves that have the small purple berries along the stem..deer don't eat the berries but love them leaves

Just to reply to your question about the "grabbling" we do it once or twice every year, mostly flatheads but we catch some giants! I noticed that you found a lot of Persimmon trees that weren't bearing fruit. I'm sure you know this, but Persimmons require a male and a female tree, and the only ones that bear fruit are the females. So, a tree that isn't bearing is likely a Male, or a female that doesn't have a male is the appropriate distance for the wind to properly fertilize it. Good luck this year!

We don't call it grablin we call it noodlin and I've done it with some friends that have done it for years.ive caught a 30lber and they have caught a few over 60
I have grabble befor with my farther in law we bank grabble we walk down the tallhatchie river and tippah river check holes in the banks it's fun

@doityourselfhunter9031 yes sir we have grabble some good ones out of tallhatchie and tippah river we ain't been in a few years my father in laws knees won't let him walk the river like he used to and I love your you tube channel we hunt alot of public land to here in Mississippi mainly holly springs national forest

They do in Mississippi. That's a Missouri law.
I grabbed when I was a young man. I’m older now and not as healthy now so I leave it to the young guys.

what states are you going to hunt this year?
I’ve seen some of the biggest bucks and bucks in groups the first two weeks of bow season. Usually it’s been my experience that after those first couple weeks buck sightings slow till rut but hunting pressure dictates that in my opinion. For some of my places I don’t even set foot in them until rut. I think your first two hunts in a place will be the most successful and the more you hunt in one spot of course your chances diminish, for mature old bucks that is. Love your videos brother, especially the ones in Ms., my home state.

Another great video 👍 I've grabbed them Ole blues a bunch of times and the worse fish I ever noodle was about a 9 lb blue that joker tore me up 😂. I also killed a 184" py whitetail in Oklahoma several years ago on Corp land on lake Keystone. Don't anyone over look tiny places that are bow and arrow only near houses and state parks as the and pay off big time. Catch you on the next one and good luck 👍

Great episode! We hunt Army Corp public land down the road from our house in SW Pennsylvania. They put corn in the last few years as well and no one walks that far back to hunt except me! Good luck this year and keep the great content coming. Thank you!

Great video, I love how you scout, find crossings, food sources, plan on how you are going to hunt it, finally put in a camera to verify there is a buck you like in the area. Next pick the most favorable day and plan on killing. That is how I do it in Michigan, great show, thank you.
we can those hickory pecan trees a wild pecan or hickernut. its one the last trees to bud out in spring. when it buds, you know for sure cold weather is gone.

Y’all deltans got it easy out west with yalls public land in your home state core of engineers, lots of wmas, refuge land we don’t have none of that over here in south Alabam
Look around at all thought rivers you got in South AL. I bet the Government own some of the land along river.

My Dad taught me that a real fisherman didn't have any reason to try to trap a fish in a box or hole in the bank.

We always look for Corps of Engineers places when we travel in the spring. The drought was bad this year where we were, and I had one gobbling that looked like he must have been standing in the water based on the map. I finally had to make a move on him, and I realized the water level was about 4 feet low. So he was standing in a place that was normally under water. But the CoE lands always have showers and decent campgrounds.
Missouri corp lakes get hunted fairly hard but you gotta know where your at because some of the areas is off limits and not always posted. And early season is good if you gotta food source like second crop soybeans and it’s possible to get a buck still in velvet or season opener is September 15 it was good the first weekend because it was cool, I had several does that first night but none gave me a broadside shot and the wind was bad for where the bucks come out so I just watched them feed on the beans. No noodling for me it’s not aloud here and the otters you better trap them because they will clean the fish out of a small creek and that’s why you don’t see any mink anymore 👍✌🏻🇺🇸

My uncle Charles smith was from Bruce, back when I was a kid he gave me an entire DIY hunter camo set. Good stuf. Great to put a face to it after all these years and his passing. He adored watching y’all.

Frog, down here in Se zone, nearly every persimmon I find is over water & they fall in the water. Usually they are dropped out by the 15th when we start. That late freeze we had in Match & the drought we had this summer is causing some trees to fall earlier than usual, some to hold on & unfortunately not any mast at all compared to other years. I've heard of persimmon trees being so big up there in north Mississippi with y'all, that you could hang a lock on in it or you know hunt saddle on it. I have had some real good success on big bucks early season on a hot acorn tee deep in swamp.
Plenty persimmon trees in mid ms big enough to hunt out of too. Just need age . Seen huge ones even in junk soil. Actually one of biggest ones I've Ever seen anywhere was in loess bluffs.

You scouted some good looking territory in this video, river bottoms have always been my favorite places to hunt.
That's where I learned to hunt and that what I look for when I go out of state.

Do you see many Beechnut tree's around the area you were just scouting?
We have Beech tree's, but not that low of ground. You got to get a little higher in the hills to find them.
How would you approach those persimmons when you hunt them? Also curious more about how you would set up on them. Love the videos
Got a camera on them now waiting for daylight pictures. I got one nice 7 pt (3.5 year old)that came in at night. I will walk the water down the creek to access the trees then set up down wind on north wind. Just waiting for everything to line up.

Check with the Corp there are some bowhunting only place that you can hunt.

Come try to get one in gerogia public land this year man.. there is a good number of big bucks in every county.. they just smart and it's thick as it can get here
