One engine type you missed entirely is the flat 6 cylinder - used on every Honda GoldWing and the legendary Valkyrie, among others. Because the cylinders are mounted opposite each other, they are incredibly smooth and surprisingly nimble (since the center of gravity is so low). They also have a well-earned reputation for having a VERY long life - many are still running after having 200k or even 300k miles on them.
Not on ever gold wing old ones were flat only later did they go to 6, but not bashing you are probably not old enough to know the bikes from decades ago. I am 60 ridden since I was 6 so my knowledge of things from dinosaur era of bikes is pretty big LOL

The best mitigation to fetal squid syndrome, aka lying in the road covered in viscera, is to do a low speed pass and examine the riding conditions. We all do dumb things on the street, it's inevitable even for the best of us, but if we plan on riding a road like it's a track we need to at least act like it's a track in all aspects. LEARN THE COURSE BEFORE YOU SEND IT!
An amazing amount of information packing into a small time. A Yammie's work is never done. Now to explain: line, breaking point, corner turn in, apex, exit, camber, radius, elevation, traction and the number of degrees a turn encompasses. Most of the later can change mid-turn, It would be far too much to ask explanations of gravity, acceleration, centrifugal force, lean angle and the vector addition of forces at the contact patch (the traction circle). That would require the best of 17th century physics. It's so hard to keep up with the latest advances.
Wow you need to google for book from keith code riding / racing school. Racing books are great for getting ful terms and what they mean . When I first hit street riding at 14 brother got a book from library written by racer I learned many things made me better safer faster rider. The BIGGEST one is counter steering, will save your life. basically ride in straight line in deserted road or parking lot with hands real light on grips push with right hand on bar bike will go right instantly, same with left, you actually push right goright push left go left. they physics is when you push wheel right it forces bike to lean opposite direction, you do it some never even realizing it. once you do you can change directio fast as hell in emergency situation practice it, it is coolest thing i learned from that book. i could explain a lot like speed shifting with no electronic speed shifter the list is long. iF YOU LIKE post I with some questions glad to pass it on but look for books by road racers it is all covered and much more. Knowledge truly is power. The skills you can learn fast will make you safer but most importantly FASTER than guys on faster bikes. Go to any race track when open to public riding a semi pro racer will eat every street rider there on a 400 when thay have 600 and 1000 cc bikes. SKILLS best mod to make and pretty cheap cost of a book or finding a rider who will explain it.
In moyorcycle lingo Squid is a newb. Never heard it used as squishy kid.... When i was road racing in the mid 90s down at Moroso i had my "Squid Suit" on the first time i went out on the track. At the track its always meant new rider/racer. Sure being a bit ouf of control is a trait of most riders new to racing but the term didn't mean that specificly.

One Sunday while having breakfast at our local quirky diner, the owner asked my husband "just how many bikes does your wife need?" His response of "3 apparently" caught the ear of the woman at the next table. She inquired as to what type of bikes I (the wife) ride, his reply of well, a 1000cc Kawasaki Concours, a 1,400cc Kawasaki Concours, and a Ducati Multistrada Enduro was met with a lengthy blank stare. Once she was able to further engage, her response was "Those are lean over bikes, right?" So glad I wasn't there that day.
Us enduro boys just call newbs squids cuz their limbs are usually flailing everywhere as they try to ride a rooty section and they look like a squid trying to run on land, I’ve seen similar actions with street newbs but I guess the term has been generalized by senior riders that frown upon less gear and wheelies

In all honesty, this comment gets a lot of votes. I must’ve been drunk when I wrote it. Because Honda actually makes several V4s. The magna, the nighthawk, the VFR, the RC 51. There is several of them and I don’t know what I was actually thinking at that time. My apologies for spreading misinformation
@@pjinxhacks9568 the Magnas used to chew through cams and almost bankrupted the motorcycle division due to warranty claims. I ended up getting a Vmax instead. Also, I'm pretty sure the Nighthawks are inline 4's. Could you be referring to the Sabre? Cheers!
A supersport bike is a 600cc fully-faired sports bike that was the base for the supersport class of racing. A similar bike with a 1000cc is a superbike.
Just for posterity, I want to give the only true and correct definition of a motorcycle squid. -- A squid (water kind) squirts from spot to spot rapidly, makes sudden random directional changes but doesn’t get anywhere fast-oh, they’re also food for anything that’s faster and has teeth.... -- A street squid squirts from spot to spot rapidly, making sudden random directional changes but doesn’t get anywhere fast. They also get eaten by anyone faster and by the grills of large trucks.
Just watched video again. Tank slapper. All the reasons they happen: favorite, or your bike just says Harley Davidson on the tank. That alone made the video worth watching. I ride a Harley by the way.
Aww I'm sad the flat six engines in older Honda Valkyries didn't get an engine mention :( They have the most aesthetic engines ever (I'm biased, I own one)
Well, he was stating the most common engine types. Goldwings and valkyries are the only bikes with the flat six. So not a common engine design across multiple manufacturers. Love my goldwing.
I do enjoy watching you’re videos, I am way to big of a guy to get on and enjoy “comfortably” a sport bike it’s just not logical for me but I’ve always wanted one. I ride a Vulcan 1500 so I don’t consider myself a Harley guy or a sport bike guy. I’m just a dude who loves all bikes
My car actually doesn't have anti lock brakes. It's a 1995 Mazda MX5 Miata. It has power windows, a manual transmission, and a Torsen limited slip differential, so it's still pretty fun to drive.

I feel like you're talking directly AT me anytime you mention a Ninja 400. 😅
Fun and educational. Thank you Mr. Yam!!!
My dude said "cant get any vaout floave" at 12:38, I'm gonna start using this 😂
I thought for sure "High Side" was coming after the tank slapper 😂
I for sure thought he would include "Death Wobble" and another Harley joke.....Missed opportunity @yammienoob
“Slow bikes for dentists that all want to play pirate on the weekend”
Might be your best line.
Correction: 3K dollars every 18K Miles on my Ducati. They have improved slightly.
Seriously?
@@machupikachu1085 the quote I got 2 years ago when I bought it was 3K for full 18K mile service im sitting at 17500 so I'm about to make the decision whether I'm going to take it to a shop or do it myself. Probably going to do it myself.
Had a VMax 1200... Not a single bike has sounded like it. Soooo good.
Us enduro boys just call newbs squids cuz their limbs are usually flailing everywhere as they try to ride a rooty section and they look like a squid trying to run on land, I’ve seen similar actions with street newbs but I guess the term has been generalized by senior riders that frown upon less gear and wheelies
that intro was everything i needed to subscribe
9:43 thats where you're wrong yammie. I don't have airbags, my seatbelt is torn, my seatbelt sensor is bad so it doesn't beep at me, I don't have ac, but I do have bucket seats those are pretty comfy
The tank slapper had me dyin lmao 🤣
-Good thing that deer had second thoughts at 10:03
i just saw that myself. It's weird that I even watch the side of the road when watching youtube videos for deer.
Tank slapper: nah I call them "Death Wobbles" and lot of others do too
Am I the only one who loves all kinds of bikes?
Yea,for sure
Ok, i burst out laughing at the pizza and pineapple making out as forbidden livers. Well played. Love you videos.
Actually, I missed that one. It is pretty funny tho!
Twins are also not recommended for an intimate group session, unless you’re in West Virginia.
My significant other has specifically banned me from being a busa boi. Little does she know my 20 year old sport tourer has light speed power too.
Dont let your insignificant other stop you from being a busa boy
Busa is fat heavy bike I prefer lighter nimble bike and busa is not as fast as many talk, few 1000 bike stock run with it and can actually turn in a corner fast
For those wondering why he said harley with the tank slapper, just look up dyno death wobble, ull see
@7:19 did you spot all those little bits of metal before you get to that gigantic piece on that cam?
Honda makes 2 v4’s. Great combination of torque and horsepower. And relatively cheap. Love mine
That's a gorgeous FTR you have in the outro
Aww I'm sad the flat six engines in older Honda Valkyries didn't get an engine mention :(
They have the most aesthetic engines ever (I'm biased, I own one)
Well, he was stating the most common engine types. Goldwings and valkyries are the only bikes with the flat six. So not a common engine design across multiple manufacturers. Love my goldwing.
@@jeremyburklow405 I'm surprised he even mentioned V4's. There' probably like half a dozen bikes being manufactured with one.
I promised my Bass Player Buddy never to yell "Freebird" at him in a live music situation, but I will smile now O/O°
My car actually doesn't have anti lock brakes. It's a 1995 Mazda MX5 Miata. It has power windows, a manual transmission, and a Torsen limited slip differential, so it's still pretty fun to drive.
I love cars and bikes where rider/driver are the anti lock traction control and shifter. I like being in control not the ECU and programs
Agreed new BMW rider and I am enjoying the few posts I’ve seen.
Great, explanatory video, thank you for upload ❤
6:36 what does he say about downshifts? I would rather have a quickshifter for downshifts but i didn't get the word he said.
I laughed so many times during this video, thank you.
R1 riders are gonna be upset with you Yams. You didn't differentiate the cross plane inline 4 from a flat plane. 🤭😁
Next Yam Video: 7 Crankshaft Configurations You Need To Know!
3:10 forgot about the KTM 1300 Super Duke V-twin.
V4 club!! Gotta love my '84 VF700C
I wore the chicken strips on one side of my new tire when I had to flattrack a corner that I was trying to lowside.
Mozart, the coolest bloke of his time, was wondering which bike to buy when he wrote this symphony (the 40th).
