I learned of this channel from a "I watched The Mummy with an Eygptologist" and boy, was this a good decision. Colleen legit looks like what I always pictured a Eygptologist to look like, right down to the hair.
As did I! This was so interesting to me that I actually sighed out loud in disappointment that it had ended. I am looking forward with great anticipation to more. Your delivery of information is interesting in every way. All the best, Dagz
That's so interesting, because I followed Colleen on Instagram, and was introduced to Rachel Maksy ("I watched The Mummy with an Egyptologist") because of that video 😂
So did I; I enjoyed that video very much. This one isn't as ... well "entertaining" isn't the word... that one seemed more about entertainment and this one more about education. Which... I guess... makes sense.
What could be better, than a lecture about Ancient Egypt? A lecture about Ancient Egypt from TWO lectors at once, who look like the explorers themselves, so you feel like you receive a knowledge from first hands!
Ok so this is a perfect example of couple goals. These two are dressed in flawless vintage outfits and both mutually nerding out over their chosen field of study and I love it. 10/10 first impression, wish I could subscribe 73 times.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! Ancient Egyptian culture and history has been a subject of fascination for me since childhood, and your channel is an absolute treasure to watch.
I so adore this, the ambience they've created is just perfect: her dress, her hat, his attire and the books, all conjuring a magical atmosphere of time travel as a movie within another, setting the scene for a deeper journey into ancient Egypt´s language. Thank you so much for this! P.S.: Kudos for the cute doggie!
This is super fascinating. I can imagine ancient Egyptian poetry is deeply fascinating, since it uses both visual art and language at the same time...I'm imaging some combination between a graphic novel and poem. Can't even visualize that, but the possibility it'd give poets. Also, id imagine it'd be amazing for puns
I just tuned in for your lessons and I learned so much. I love languages and history, so it kind made a bad morning a lot better. I love your style and Dr. Colleen, I love your hair and I wish I knew you as a child. I had a similar haircut, but I hated it because all the women and girls in my life had long hair. I now know how great it looks. Seeing you and loving your hair I don't know. It just makes me smile and love my old photographs a little more. Thank you.
I have been interested in Egypt since I was very very you but I lost interest a few years ago but your channel has sparked my interest once again and I love they way you guys dress
Your lessons are an absolute treasure and joy to watch! Your vintage costume is divine, the Egyptology are fascinating, and your dog, Narmer, has so much soul and poise and is absolutely adorable.
This couldn't have come out at a greater time! I've recently become enthralled by ancient Egypt and ancient Mesopotamia so by association I've been trying to learn how to read the heiroglyphs and understand cuneiform in lockdown. Understanding a language makes it way easier to understanding the culture and history much more intimately, thank you for a great video.
The amount of information you have casually given in 15 minutes is astonishing. I am amazed by just how much knowledge you have and how many details you remember. I am a costume designer and I love historical costumes but I don't think I would be able to remember all the details and dates even if my life depended on it. I found this video highly enjoyable and very interesting. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
This is so cool! I’ve studied multiple Asian and European languages and I’ve always heard how confusing hieroglyphs are, but this makes it sound very manageable. I can’t wait for part 2!
Love everything about you 3.. Your puppy is just beautiful! And the 2 of you, knowing so much and on top of that, spends the time to educate others.. Just love it, keep it up :)
This was just WONDERFUL, you two! Thoughtful, generous, and most hopeful to an uninstructed, late-in-life wanna-be scribe like me. Eager for more of your salon.
Loved it! So many things I was not aware about hieroglyphs and writing back in the old Egypt :) And I love your style, this channel is exactly what I've been waiting for since decades!
Colleen and John your blowing my mind literally im trying to understand all you've said YOU GUYS ARE REALLY SMART im learning lots though especially how they wrote things down and lived back then thanks for explaining everything for me and your fashion sense love it
Thank you, Doctors Darnell. Fantastic, I had to watch it twice to absorb all of the information. Just the difference between hieratic and hieroglyphs seems like it should be evident and yet it’s something else I never knew. Love this bit of home schooling. My best to you and yours. Looking forward to your next.
Good morning Team. With Disney + I have the opportunity to become acquainted with your archeology works at the Valley of the Kings episodes from National Geographic. You are the first Team I decided to reach out to on this dig. Thank you for your contributions to the human race. We are always in the race of Life. Have a blessed day, Dani
thank you for putting your knowledge out here, I've always been so fascinated by the ancient Egyptian culture since I was a kid and your videos are so insightful and I LOVE your vintage outfits!
Thank you so much for your videos. Beside the style and the themes in general, that I find incredibly fascinating - and that have captivated me since I was a child - your way of explaining is unique and inspiring. I always want to know more when it comes to Egypt and its amazing history, and your channel gives this away just beautifully. Thank you , thank you, thank you.
I cannot thank you ENOUGH for providing these invaluable lessons. I’m a big fan of ancient egypt and I have immensely studied the different kingdoms, religion and life of ancient egypt. I have been to egypt 3 times now! However I have never found a medium to actually learn learn hieroglyphics on! I’ve bought many books, but it seems too difficult to grasp. Thank you so much for doing this. I have been a huge fan of your channel and IG. 💜💜💜
Perfect! I’ve studied how to read Hieroglyphs but it’t quite hard to learn because even English is also difficult for me. Your speaking is so clear so I can get it so easily. Thank you so much.
Marvelous! I'm loving this! I rather like the intro sequence. This is an area I've had interest in for much of my life, I'm glad to see you've started this series. Can't wait part 2! Didn't know the breed of dogs in Ancient Egypt had a modern counterpart! Basenjis are so cute!
I came to your channel after seeing you react to the Mummy movie. I was wondering if you planned to react to the second Mummy movie or better yet, Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The video game is said to have way more accuracy to Egyptian culture and I’d love nothing more than to see an actual Egyptologist react to it and see if that’s true. New subscriber too. Hope you get to react to either of those. Keep bringing us that cool knowledge.
Oooh a reaction to Assassins Creed would be amazing! I love learning about Ancient Egypt but I definitely want to know the things I'm learning are based on reality and not fantasy. These two seem to give us a wonderful dose of Ancient Egyptian reality.!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. It’s absolutely a privilege to have such opportunity to learn more of the world from people like you, It’s incredibly exiting .
I love this. Thank you so much. I'm a new subscriber and love the work you do and the way you explain things without sounding condescending. I am no professional and I love learning new things. Btw, off topic but love your fashion sense too. So elegant and classy. Please keep up the good work. :)
This is BEYOND fascinating! I’m learning so much, and will be using this incredibly taught knowledge in a book I’m writing (I’m so happy I’ll be able to make it more authentic and accurate, thanks to your lovely videos)! ☺️💛
Both as so handsome! He's so brilliant! And what a snappy dresser!! I learned so much about difference between the hieroglyphic, Herodic and lapidary/Herodic! What is so fascinating for me is the bridge from Coptic to Hieroglyphic! That has always piqued my attention. One last comment: Colleen's shoes were to DIE for! Fortunately, I own a pair BUT NOT IN RED! Damn it!😂 Looking forward to next Friday's lesson and fashion plates, John & Colleen. 💖
I'm new to the channel and I wondered the same thing. From the very limited comments I've heard/read it seems that she buys vintage most of the time but at the very least she only buys natural fibers.
Wonderfully done video, thank you so much. I'm on my way to crossing this off my bucket list. I love learning from people who have a passion for the subject they're teaching. Can't wait for more videos. Very thankful to Rachel Maksy for bringing me here.
All your videos are made extremely interesting, in excellent style, with impeccable taste and very entertaining. I look forward to the following installations with great interest. Many thanks.
Excellent video, well put together, informative and made it more accessible to my 10 year old that loved it!. thank you for sharing and please keep up the great work 👏👍
Thank you for the lesson on hieroglyphs, hieractic and demonic scripts. Also thanks for including Narmer. What popped into my head when you were discussing hieractic was the Egyptian equivalent to the Elizabethan university student letter to his honoured parents requesting money. Look forward to the next.
I've been looking into the allegorical histories of makeup as an art form and you've just given me the perfect term to really screw with my art lecturer. Thank you looking forward to all that you two bring out
This is fascinating, I never knew there were other forms of scripts used by the Egyptians. I'm sure something similar, but of course different, applied to the American Indians. Maya Script that is known today was also used to present important, public, information or events that were recorded on stelae, vases or stone structures. I write Maya Hieroglyph on my channel but other languages and scripts are super interesting. Great video!
Okay, I have about a thousand questions! How literate were the Egyptian people? Did anybody besides the priesthood learn hieroglyphs? If only the priesthood could read hieroglyphs, why use them on public monuments at all?
I do not have an educated guess as to how much of the population was literate in hieroglyphic writing, but I would point out that the point of using them was also in their intrinsic religious value. People believed that hieroglyphic writing had "power", it was a sacred script.
Another wonderful and informative video. Thank you for this start into the ancient form of writing. As child I loved to try and find signs I knew on statues when my family was visiting a Museum. So this brings back wonderful memories. :)
I found your channel from your collaboration video with Rachel Macksy! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us, I’m truly inspired ❤️
Is the difference between old and late Egyptian as big as the difference between old and modern English? Would old Egyptian be totally unintelligible to late Egyptian speakers like old English is to us?
I recall seeing Colleen on Egyptian documentaries briefly before. Since childhood I have been captivated by the Ancient Egyptian culture and history. Colleen overwhelmed me with her carisma and charm on The Mummy video but I would be equally fascinated to hear her input on the movie Stargate.
I learned of this channel from a "I watched The Mummy with an Eygptologist" and boy, was this a good decision.
Colleen legit looks like what I always pictured a Eygptologist to look like, right down to the hair.
Same. I watched that vid and had the same thought. I guess I am here to stay.
As did I! This was so interesting to me that I actually sighed out loud in disappointment that it had ended. I am looking forward with great anticipation to more. Your delivery of information is interesting in every way. All the best, Dagz

also the dog
the dog also helps
ikr!!
@@tatharelprincessoferegion8162 true, the dog played an important part in it
Professor Basenji is a valuable asset.
Oh he is so essential!🐶🐕💕
He and John have the same expression; they are another perfect example of an animal looking like their human 😆
I'm loving the coordinated outfits to go along with today's lesson! This is great.
You're living the life I dreamed of as a teenager, really should've believed it was attainable
Must be great to share these interests with your 'life partner'..power couple!
It still is brother
I love how she looks at him like she is so proud of him 💕 when he talks
Ok so this is a perfect example of couple goals. These two are dressed in flawless vintage outfits and both mutually nerding out over their chosen field of study and I love it. 10/10 first impression, wish I could subscribe 73 times.

P.S.: Kudos for the cute doggie!
Egyptology lessons and epic 1920's fashion in one video. You've earned another subscriber.
So glad I came across this channel, amazing work I've learned so much thank you both for sharing this knowledge with us!
I love this, its so interesting! And I love little Narmer!! Hes such a good doggo.
I'm obsessed and aggravated by how sharp, thorough and clear her speaking is and he's like semi asmr-classic tv (think pbs old shows) soft voice
This is super fascinating. I can imagine ancient Egyptian poetry is deeply fascinating, since it uses both visual art and language at the same time...I'm imaging some combination between a graphic novel and poem. I am so thankfull you started this channel! I'm absolutely stunned by egiptology and glad I can learn from the professionals!
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL SO MUCH
Your lessons are an absolute treasure and joy to watch! Your vintage costume is divine, the Egyptology are fascinating, and your dog, Narmer, has so much soul and poise and is absolutely adorable.
Why does this make me want to change my college studies?? I love this and am so intrigued by all of this. So glad I found this channel♡
Without even starting...The costumes are great!
Sorry but that magnificent dog completely stole my focus. She/he's so captivating.
This couldn't have come out at a greater time! How did you get on??
I'm so impressed by both of you. So classic and kind, so lovely!!
This is the first video I've seen on your channel. Both the video and the channel are brilliant.
The amount of information you have casually given in 15 minutes is astonishing. I am amazed by just how much knowledge you have and how many details you remember. This is so interesting! I'm excited to use this to start learning to read heiroglyphs!
This is so very interesting! Also, that is the most sophisticated dog I have ever seen.
This is so cool! I’ve studied multiple Asian and European languages and I’ve always heard how confusing hieroglyphs are, but this makes it sound very manageable. I can’t wait for part 2!
John is lowkey looking like Leonardo DiCaprio
And she looks like Jordan Baker from The Great Gatsby.
What gatsby would’ve looked like if he got to grow older
Leonardo DiCaprio is lowkey looking like John
He's a handsome man!
I was thinking Torre Florim from "De Staat"
I really enjoy these classy couple. I love their enthusiasm in ancient Egypt, I have learned a lot watching them. Keep up the good work.
I’ve always wanted to learn ever since I was a kid. I guess it’s time to act on it 😁
much appreciation for this slice of knowledge .
I see many of us have had past lives in Ancient Egypt. Our soul remembers and we're drawn to it 💫
THAT’S MY NEW FAVORITE CHANNEL! CANT WAIT FOR THE NEWS CLASSES!
Great video! I enjoyed the detailed explanation and information. Thank you for you time and efforts!
Great information! Heading over to part 2 😊

Loved this. Fascinating to see it broken down into an explanation I could actually get me head around (mostly) : )
I found this informative, enthusiastic, and entertaining. Thank you for sharing your scholarship and your passion.

Have watched you two on many documentaries and am so glad you are doing this channel. Please continue and thank you for your contribution.
This channel is great, you help a lot with your content. Hope you get more subscribers, you deserve it!
This makes me so happy! I love learning about Ancient Egyptian culture and history, so I am so excited for all your future videos!

Very understandable descriptions. Clarity is exceptional in these studies. Of course, I have come to expect you to be exceptional.

Yaaaaas. I wanted this so bad! Especially since an instagram post can contain only so much information. ❤️
Dr Colleen is so elegant and ‘put together’ I do wonder if she buys vintage outfits or if she buys new items that look right.
I'm new to the channel and I wondered the same thing. From the very limited comments I've heard/read it seems that she buys vintage most of the time but at the very least she only buys natural fibers.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm. It’s a privilege to hear each of you share.
When I was a child I was always interested in reading and decoding hieroglyphics. Still do. Maybe as a hobby
I don't know whats up with the vintage stuff but I love you guys !!
Entertaining and informative video, love the style and looking forward to watching your other content. Thankyou
Wonderfully done video, thank you so much. I'm on my way to crossing this off my bucket list. I love learning from people who have a passion for the subject they're teaching. Can't wait for more videos. Very thankful to Rachel Maksy for bringing me here.

Excellent video, well put together, informative and made it more accessible to my 10 year old that loved it!. thank you for sharing and please keep up the great work 👏👍
This is all fascinating. I wish I had a spare decade or so to really dive into it!
Never too late. Had a classmate in her 80’s when I was at uni....
You two are such amazing teachers, I'm absolutely enthralled!
A great breath of fresh air you are!
Best wishes.
I know this isn’t in the scope of your channel but I would watch a whole video of your dogs. That yawn really got me.
Thank you for the lesson on hieroglyphs, hieractic and demonic scripts. Also thanks for including Narmer. What popped into my head when you were discussing hieractic was the Egyptian equivalent to the Elizabethan university student letter to his honoured parents requesting money. Learning hieroglyphs is so complex but it's so cool to learn it.

Only wealthy/royal people gave their children an education, so very few people.
Another wonderful and informative video. Thank you for this start into the ancient form of writing. As child I loved to try and find signs I knew on statues when my family was visiting a Museum. So this brings back wonderful memories. :)
Oh wow, that dress is so beautiful, the envy within wants a version for myself!
Great video...this is done very well. Thank you both AND the dog!
Love the whole 1920s look
This is fascinating! Looking forward to more installments :)
I absolutely love this channel!

Hey! It's so strange to see these guys online! I've seen them on the TV so many times. Good to see a video which I can believe the information within.
Thank you for this I never knew there were people on here that love Ancient Egypt as much as I do
I recall seeing Colleen on Egyptian documentaries briefly before. Since childhood I have been captivated by the Ancient Egyptian culture and history.
Colleen overwhelmed me with her carisma and charm on The Mummy video but I would be equally fascinated to hear her input on the movie Stargate.
So interesting. Thank you for sharing. The two of you look divine. That hat is EVERYTHING.
This video is one of the coolest online! And the doggie is so cute!!
Another splendid episode!
You guys are great. Not only do you know your stuff, you guys are spot on. Good job.
Fantastic. I really like their mentioning of Elkab, as I was architect at that site (alas a long time ago).
