    I learned of this channel from a "I watched The Mummy with an Eygptologist" and boy, was this a good decision.
    Colleen legit looks like what I always pictured a Eygptologist to look like, right down to the hair.

      So did I; I enjoyed that video very much. This one isn't as ... well "entertaining" isn't the word... that one seemed more about entertainment and this one more about education. Which... I guess... makes sense.

    What could be better, than a lecture about Ancient Egypt? A lecture about Ancient Egypt from TWO lectors at once, who look like the explorers themselves, so you feel like you receive a knowledge from first hands!

    This is super fascinating. I can imagine ancient Egyptian poetry is deeply fascinating, since it uses both visual art and language at the same time...I'm imaging some combination between a graphic novel and poem. Can't even visualize that, but the possibility it'd give poets. Also, id imagine it'd be amazing for puns

    I love your style and Dr. Colleen, I love your hair and I wish I knew you as a child. I had a similar haircut, but I hated it because all the women and girls in my life had long hair. I now know how great it looks. Seeing you and loving your hair I don't know. It just makes me smile and love my old photographs a little more. Thank you.

I've recently become enthralled by ancient Egypt and ancient Mesopotamia so by association I've been trying to learn how to read the heiroglyphs and understand cuneiform in lockdown. This is fascinating, I never knew there were other forms of scripts used by the Egyptians. I'm sure something similar, but of course different, applied to the American Indians. Maya Script that is known today was also used to present important, public, information or events that were recorded on stelae, vases or stone structures. I write Maya Hieroglyph on my channel but other languages and scripts are super interesting. Great video!

    Okay, I have about a thousand questions! How literate were the Egyptian people? Did anybody besides the priesthood learn hieroglyphs? If only the priesthood could read hieroglyphs, why use them on public monuments at all?

    • @HdGKP
      @HdGKP 4 роки тому +4

      I do not have an educated guess as to how much of the population was literate in hieroglyphic writing, but I would point out that the point of using them was also in their intrinsic religious value. People believed that hieroglyphic writing had "power", it was a sacred script.
