The production and editing of these videos is fantastic makes me think I’m watching Dark side of the ring or something similar… everyone at cultaholic deserves so so much more!
I remember on one WWE PPV Jerry Lawler asking JR if WCW was a joke. JR replied, "Damn right it was!". Upon first hearing that, it sounded like Ross's WWE paycheck was doing the talking. After this video, I can see some true resentment in that statement.
I love Sam's understated voiceover on this series. While the rest of the Cultaholic crew can be more colorful and character-driven, Sam's solid, scholarly, more documentarian delivery helps keep the presentation grounded without being dry. And the editing can't be overlooked, either, accenting the beats without being distracting. Easily one of the best series on this channel, and one of my favorites since Captivating Careers was retired.
Another excellent video in what is fast becoming my favourite Cultaholic series. Sam is so damn good at this narrating lark and the editing is wonderful.
These are so good! I hope this comes across the way I mean it to, but I learn so much about the importance of the events that led up to big moments from these videos. They’re proper sit down and listen affair. Can’t wait for the next one!
Years back had a Mandela effect where I had thought JR passed away (was away from the scene awhile) and ofc found out soon after that, but grateful he’s still kickin ass. Saw him LIVE as a kid in the 90s; went to several Nitros/Raws (+Summerslam’99), it rocked!
As always these are incredible documentaries, as youtube content they stand out with the editing, script and delivery by Sam. They would not be out of place on any premium service like Netflix, you should be very proud.
I have developed a major addiction to this channel, content and production of this quality absolutely should NOT be free but goddamn I sure am glad it is.
"Pushing his Noble Son to Top Star Thing." Well, Vince did it with Shane O' Mac. Guess Watts and McMahon have the same mentality. Thanks for the tale, Sam Driver.
"WCW didn't know what they had in Jim Ross." Feel like thats WCW in a nutshell, not knowing what they had. After watching a few documentaries on WCW it's still mind boggling they were able to beat out WWE for like 83 consecutive wks or whatever ridiculous number it was. Just seems like as a company they could never get out of their own way.
He’s not the greatest announcer in WWE history he’s the greatest in wrestling history period. Hell in the Cell is the “Do you believe in miracles” call in wrestling history.
This was the night I went from a die hard WCW fan to a die hard WWF fan. Even at like 10 years old I got mad at the poke and then saying "thatl put butts in seats" I remember even at that age I was like well that's screwed up but I'm gunna go watch that
It's a shame wcw didn't keep, imagine the early nitro years with jr instead of mongo, with tony and bobby. Thats an unmatched booth to me. I wish he had been there for the formation of the nWo and the sting story.
I love how it's not really mentioned by WWF Fanboys that Vince hired Ross as lead to replace Gorilla Monsoon, then replaced Ross with himself, screwed around with Ross for another few months before firing him. McMahon only hired Ross back as he was busy dealing with the U S Government. Jim Ross was a pawn, used by Mcmahon because he was a WCW GUY and he could.
This is very intense so don't you forget that there's really people doing all this behind the scenes they really should make more documentaries of even movies like this like Mickey Rourke in the wrestler.
Wouldn't mind seeing Sam put together a video about the rise of All Japan and New Japan/Baba and Inoki and all of the activity before both were founded.
So this shaw & dew guy is why we got to see good Ol' JR in a toga? Hey the human ken doll, eazy e, gimmie a break, how long can u milk the same cow? The bozo was in the right place at the right time.
Watts sounds like Vince. You know, banning cool moves, having Kayfabe in everyday life, and, not letting people leave until the show is over. Does anyone want to wrestle and watch RAW in the same day....
I have always felt sorry for Tony Schiavone and Michael Cole. No matter what they have achieved during their career, they will always be compared to and in the shadow of the great JR.
Jim has always been a "wrestling guy" as opposed to a "sports entertainment guy," so for him to go from a company that had once been the NWA, the beacon of traditional rasslin', to the WWF, a company known for cartoon characters, must have been rough. And he was paid less money initially than he was in WCW. Schiavone is a good announcer who has been a part of some legendary wrestling moments, but in hindsight, JR was always better.
I always thought Gorilla Monsoon was really good at the WWF pay per views in the 1980s..granted I was 4 years old at wrestlemania 1 so I grew up on Gorilla but still...he was very good
Broken Face LEFT WCW. He was never taken off the commentary position. He would have ruined the company sooner than it did. He was a good commentator but thankfully he was not in a position of power.
I wish Foley would punch out either eric or shivone but like he said, he called shivone & told him he was a piece of shit when he announced Mick Foley, who wrestled in this company under the name Cactus Jack wins the other company's title tonight. Then 600,000-850,000 people changed to watch Foley win. They were that out of touch.
7 years later wwe had Austin foley taker hhh Jericho big show road dogg boss man Eddie Guerrero etc all guys wcw failed to do anything with when they had them
Watts and his rules just made things hard on the wrestlers. No floor mats, and its a dq to go over the top to the floor, not to mention no top rope moves were ridiculous. They were worse than outdated. They make CYN's new rules and 3 banned moves seem totally reasonable, and im not a fan of the rules
The production and editing of these videos is fantastic makes me think I’m watching Dark side of the ring or something similar… everyone at cultaholic deserves so so much more!
The piano really brings it home
Sadly UA-cam has started to not inform about Cultaholic videos... Sure let's push scumbags but legit channels get trashed, so horrible tbh..
This is why I’m always invested in videos for War Stories and Dark Side of the Ring.
Even Better Than The Real Thing
Cultaholic out here killing it. What a great little Doc
I remember on one WWE PPV Jerry Lawler asking JR if WCW was a joke. JR replied, "Damn right it was!". Upon first hearing that, it sounded like Ross's WWE paycheck was doing the talking. After this video, I can see some true resentment in that statement.
Well narrated, mate. JR has always been a class act, both on and off the air.
“By God, I think Michaels may be broken in half!
- JR
Another excellent video in what is fast becoming my favourite Cultaholic series. Sam is so damn good at this narrating lark and the editing is wonderful.
I remember being sad that the weekly content was being scaled back, but if this is the level of content we get in return, sign me up.
Quality > Quantity
Sam honestly has one of the best narration voices in the world. Not just wrestling, he could do voice work for anything
Content of this series is absolute Gold. It is too good to be available for free. Lots of love and respect to you guys
Best series yall have ever done. Great work, gentlemen
These are so good! I hope this comes across the way I mean it to, but I learn so much about the importance of the events that led up to big moments from these videos. They’re proper sit down and listen affair. Can’t wait for the next one!

I’d listen to Sam talk about anything. A True professional!
Adore this series as always. Really hope the views translate to the absolute quality content that it is. Hope that they don’t stop any time soon!
There is no doubt this is the BEST series on UA-cam! Wonderful job, mate!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
JR is my all time favorite announcer but I can see people not seeing that back in the day.
I did video about best wrestlemania shows can you watch it
Your right back in the day I would never seen JR as ur favorite.
Love this series
The volume quality in your videos is awesome tbh
As always these are incredible documentaries, as youtube content they stand out with the editing, script and delivery by Sam. They would not be out of place on any premium service like Netflix, you should be very proud.
I hope for April Fools this year we get a ‘Where are they now’ for Southpaw Regional Wrestling.
I LOVE these videos. There production and writing are always top notch.
excellent research, narration and passion...business keeps picking up at Cultaholic
I have developed a major addiction to this channel, content and production of this quality absolutely should NOT be free but goddamn I sure am glad it is.
JR shows his loyalty to WWE.
WWE: Did what they did.
Me: *sighs*
JR is a legend in the business and with good reason. Almost FIFTY years in wrestling and he's still beloved.
even with decades of his own boss trying to sabotage him.
Excellent video I love the war story and the true story series
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The presenter and editors are fantastic
These are so F'ing good, keep up the excellent work.
Cultaholic = quality 👌
These are always awesome, well done all involved
Mr.Driver.....you NEVER DISAPPOINT 🙏🙌 Grade A, you know wut I mean sir 😉
Another Stella outing guys. I would love a mini documentary like this on the territories at some point
Thank you for giving us a peek at what goes on behind the scenes of Pro Wrestling.
"Pushing his Noble Son to Top Star Thing." Well, Vince did it with Shane O' Mac. Guess Watts and McMahon have the same mentality. Thanks for the tale, Sam Driver.
But at least Shane on Mac as personality unlike Bill Wats son
This is a great video Jim ross and Jerry the king Lawler are my favourite commentators
"WCW didn't know what they had in Jim Ross." Feel like thats WCW in a nutshell, not knowing what they had. After watching a few documentaries on WCW it's still mind boggling they were able to beat out WWE for like 83 consecutive wks or whatever ridiculous number it was. I love reliving the war
Best videos on the channel!
Love the war stories thank you cultaholic
There’s more WHATS in this than a Stone Cold Promo haha! Love these videos!
Jim Ross wasn't just the greatest wrestling announcer, he's the greatest sports announcer there has ever been. The voice of a generation.
J. R. Is simply a ……………..Legend!!!!
He’s not the greatest announcer in WWE history he’s the greatest in wrestling history period.
Hell in the Cell is the “Do you believe in miracles” call in wrestling history.
WWE's greatest announcer? No, wrestling's greatest announcer!
Sam is king of Cultaholic
17:13 this line was going great until the botched "black Sunday"
BY GOD HE BROKE HIM IN HALF!
damn right WCW didn't know what they had
Stop the match! Enoughs enough.
This was the night I went from a die hard WCW fan to a die hard WWF fan. Even at like 10 years old I got mad at the poke and then saying "thatl put butts in seats" I remember even at that age I was like well that's screwed up but I'm gunna go watch that
Sam has the perfect documentary voice
I know the spot would still have been over but could you imagine when Foley went off the cell with out the line " I swear to god he broken in half"
Long live Good Ol' J.R.!
Wbcw finally was defeated by the WWF during the Monday night wars.
Ross was the best at play by play. For color, Bobby the Brain takes the top spot.
This has made me want to re read JRs books
When is the “Doomed From The Start” War Story going to come out??
I'm also curious about the Philly Indy Wars one
@@johnathanrush4666 I think they already did that one.
@@outlawrip-offartist4161 if so, I couldn't find it on the War Stories playlist. If you got a link, I'd be grateful 🙏
It's a shame wcw didn't keep, imagine the early nitro years with jr instead of mongo, with tony and bobby. Thats an unmatched booth to me. I wish he had been there for the formation of the nWo and the sting story.

The good ol days of Cultaholic, when it wasn’t all top 10s 😭💔
Go outside and play lol
Great episode
Imagine if JR stayed with WCW… the attitude era would have not been the same.
8:59 Hey its Zack from Saved By The Bell
A professional voice actor as the narrator and these would be perfect.
Bah Gawd! JR is legendary!
good video
What is the Doomed From The Start video that was mentioned in the intro?
Cheers, can't seem to find it?
Imagine if, Jim Ross hadn't been let go from WCW, him calling Hogan joining Hall & Nash
Ironic, considering WWE didn’t use him correctly in the last 12 years.
Great video
Wouldn't mind seeing Sam put together a video about the rise of All Japan and New Japan/Baba and Inoki and all of the activity before both were founded.
Let me guess.... Inoki ego is the reason things fell apart?
thanks!

@Matty Ice you are sick bro get help
@@captaincharisma6306 That is subjective. Also, what does that have to do with the video

Get well Razor Ramon 🤦🏻♂️
Id love to hear the radio broadcast
Rest In Peace Hammeing Hank
I love Monday Night War Stories
If Jim Ross isn't let go from WCW, this is a different story with a different outcome.
Just imagine if t Khan used JR correctly in AEW as head of creative
I have always felt sorry for Tony Schiavone and Michael Cole. No matter what they have achieved during their career, they will always be compared to and in the shadow of the great JR.
Jr is edged in to wrestling law
*lore?
Jim ross did good in wcw on commentary
ALL HAIL JIM ROSS!!!!

imagine if wcw had made jr the voice of nitro 🤔
please do a TNA doomed from the start on War stories next week we beg you
PLEASE??????
Cody Rhodes the next WWE announcer/ head of talent relations?
Vince will never do that
Boom boom
Jr told wcw what he thought of them
I always thought Gorilla Monsoon was really good at the WWF pay per views in the 1980s..granted I was 4 years old at wrestlemania 1 so I grew up on Gorilla but still...he was very good

Not the best theme these days. War Stories. Interesting content though!
I love these War Stories episodes but do we have to describe every weeks TV ratings? it's the least interesting part of the Monday Night Wars.
