From what I've been told by aficionados of Marvel Comics, what Loki becomes at the end of this episode isn't "He Who Remains". That title and/or entity now no longer exists, and now he's become his most powerful incarnation in the entire universe of Marvel: Loki, God of Stories.

Yeah, that makes sense because he talked about destroying the timeline in order to create something better, not just a different version of the same thing. So he also destroyed Kang and became something better too. But also became something better than the old Loki.

25:40 The 616 is just referring to the Mainline MCU universe that we've been following since Iron Man (2008) basically meaning Earth-616. Then you have these "branched" timelines that branched off from Earth-616 such as everything we see in What... If and of course the many branched timelines in Loki. These would have their own numbered earth just so people can keep track of them. And then you have alternate realties such as Earth-838 from Multiverse of Madness where we saw Maria Rambeau as Captain Marvel, Peggy as Captain Carter, Professor X and Black Bolt etc.
Why 616 was mentioned, well it's pretty much a nod to the events of Antman 3 where a variant of Kang was defeated and the TVA is just like "Oh cool we don't have to worry about that variant anymore". The TVA is just keeping track of Kang variants now and making sure they're dealt with.
Also alot of people don't really like the idea of the MCU being known as Earth-616 as in the comics Earth-616 is Marvels Mainline Continuity, The MCU is referred to as Earth-199999 in both the comics and even in Across the Spider-Verse. So I guess differant people have differant numbering systems, similar to how in theory if we were to discover that alternate realties exist all of them would designate themselves as Earth-1 as we naturally would see ourselves as the original universe. You know like travel to an alternate earth and be like "Hey I'm from Earth-1" you'd no doubt be met with "But we're Earth-1" lol

OK that makes sense. I couldn't remember whether or not the MCU was Earth-616 or if it was some other number.

@@OldLadyReactsit's okay. Actually a lot of fans are upset with Kevin Fiegie for calling the main timeline the mcu takes place in as 616. Many comic book fans are very particular with the numbering because the main timeline of the comics which have been ongoing stories since the 1960's is known as 616. The comic books years and years ago clearly defined the mcu films taking place in earth 199999. Having the mcu become "616" feels likes the films trying to replace the nearly 60 years of comic books.
Again like the mcu the comics have stories that are ongoing since stan Lee and Kirby first made the comic books in late 1960's. Obviously not all of them are but certain titles are following stories just like a next chapter or like the next day from adventures over the past decades. So it's kinda a big dispute with some of the comic book fans. It'd be like if Warner Bros studios said nothing in the harry potter books matter and only the films do. Or if Disney said nothing in the fairy tales their princess movies are based on, only their films. Kinda adaptation vs source.

Yes, some of these MCU shows have been excellent. My favourites are WandaVision and both seasons of Loki. They have been brilliant and the storytelling is super creative.

Yah the theme of the show is Loki's self sacrifice and maturing to become what he wanted to become back in ep 1, a god space king. Mobius even mocks him saying king of space would be a nice feather in Loki's cap. Just like the first thor film with odin saying thor and loki as kids were both born to be kings. Loli finally gets its glorious purpose, his throne. But at what cost? And only after he truly learned what it means to be king. Basically tye whole idea of "heavy is the head that wears the crown". Loli finally learns what being king means and that is glorious purpose isn't for "glory" since almost no one except his friends from the tva will know he is the king of all space and timelines wnd the multiverse. Kinda a thankless job. But hebis king to make sure every universe lives and grows instead of destroying universes like he who remains was doing.
Basically the 2 seasons is a mcu, loki, science fiction version of willy wonka. He who remains is a supervillain willy wonka and Loki is Charlie. Loki inherited the chocolate factory aka the throne at the end of time.

Wow, it has been a month since you did episodes 3 & 4. I was worried you weren't coming back to it. So I love your reaction at the end of episode 5 at 12:35. It's really crazy to think how many of these superhero and science fiction movies you have watched in the past year and a half that you would be this excited over the story line. It has been so fun and rewarding to watch your expansion of enjoyment of these new genres of film.
I am very glad I discovered your channel when I did. Happy New Year for 2024 and I hope you continue to find new treasures to watch and share.

A well-told story is a well-told story. I'm just so glad that I'm no longer missing out on these fun and thought provoking movies. Even if there are some goofy of bad ones thrown in here and there. Thanks so much for all your views and comments and for supporting the channel. I'll keep going as long as people keep watching! Happy New Year to you too :)

616 is the main MCU timeline. Them talking about a Kang variant in a 616 adjacent timeline is referencing the events of Ant Man Quantumania

Another nice costume touch: the horn helmet at the end is made of the same material as He Who Remains citadel, shot through with gold
I would say as an executive producer, Tom was up on everything . . .

Yes Tom Hiddelston does appear to understand everything his character is talling about or doing. He like Scarlet Johanson were executive producers on their show/film. Kevin Fiegie's work load in reased after 2019/endgame and he delegated a lot of freedom and by extension responsibilities to Scarlett Johanson for her film black widow. Same with Tom Hiddelston. They also get a payraise with the title of executive producer which I'm sure is nice for them.
But in rhe behind the scenes and interviews its clear Tom Hiddelston made both seasons of Loki all his own. He was involved in every aspect of production closely collaborating and giving input that was followed by costume department, vfx and chi department, helping pick director, etc. These 2 seasons really are like his baby, his pet project or passion project that marvel studios gave him to make as good as he can while Kevin Fiegie tried to keep up with other projects and workload.
Even the last words Loki says in the last ep Tom chose to put in as kind of his departing speech or farewell speech.
Also Scarlett Johanson choae thw director for boack widow. That was all her. I think even choosing Florence Pugh was input from Scarlet Johanson along with marvel studios casting director Sarah Finn, I think her name is?
Both black widow and both seasons of loki meant a lot to the actors Scarlett Johanson and Tom Hiddelston.
Tom took a lot of inspiration from Wes Anderson films for both seasons of Loki which is especially clear to see in the production and set design and costumes in the 2nd season

That's exactly what Marvel Studios is doing. Marvel announced this year that they will start making standalone projects so films or shows that don't really have anything to do with the rest of the mcu. Just films or shows that anyone can watch and not have to worry about it setting up future projects or rely on stories already in the mcu. They are calling them "Marvel Spotlight".
It'll be separate from the ongoing story they are telling going forward due to complaints of new fans having trouble with just the size of the mcu and how to enter the fandom without worrying about the canon. Likely 2 mcu films a year and maybe one marvel spotlight film that is standalone and has norhing to do with anything else in the next coming years.

Hopefully they'll treat Daredevil and Blade as stand-alone projects. They really could be. Like, Daredevil is connected, but it doesn't need to be irrevocably so.

I do like what Thor Love and Thunder and both seasons of Loki say about gods, religion, kings and ruling. Both are very different with love and thunder being satrical while loki is more methodical scince fiction. But both have messages about how religion is okay to have but don't let doctrines and religion bring you down. Don't become an extremist or even lose hope. Rely on your loved ones to make life worth living not just religious doctrine like he who remains religious like doctrine was even in the eternals with portraying the eternals as disobeying their religous doctrine. Gorr, the villian in love and thunder as well as Loki could've lost hope and been nihilistic but instead they chose the love of their friends and family to believe in and keep preserving for.

To be fair this show doesn't oean into Christianity sacrifice as much as norse mythology and lore with the world tree, Ygdrassil. The norse mythology version of the tree of life that connects all the worlds and universe. But the show in both does explore religion in general so Christianity does apply. Loki wasn't crucified like Jesus persay but does have to suffer penace and his punishment is to wear his crown and be king. So enough similarities.
I'm happy you enjoyed the show a lot. Sadly this secons season didn't do as well as the first with getting more subscribers or with viewership but a lot of fans who did watch it do feel it among somw of the best the mcu has to offer and great character exploration.

      @OldLadyReacts  8 місяців тому +3

And there is so much crossover in lore between the various religions anyway. The themes of self-sacrifice, maturity borne through suffering, all beings are connected, etc., that's pretty much found in all of them.
