40 years ago next summer I did and passed p company at the age of 17. I was winged up in battalion before I was 18. The tranisium didn't have nets when I did it in the woods in Aldershot training area. Down by Farnham airfield I think it was. The run run jump net didn't have a wrap around net. It just had the net you had to punch a hole in the net. All the rest there was no nets only when you swung backwards onto a cargo net The parallel bars didn't have any safety net either. Plus we had just come off the stretcher run and I was fucked. We had to climb up the cargo net to the parallel bars. The only regiment in the British green army that has a test week to become a member of the parachute regiment.
The stretcher race was 7 miles then on Hankley Common plus the Assault course was a separate event with a 3 x round requirement. Or is my mind playing up in advanced years?
@@garrywynne1218 my p company was Aldershot training area, long valley, hungry hill ( flag staff ) a killer. The hardest event for a pure lung buster in my experience was the log run. You sprinted from start to finish. Chin strapped on that.
@kyleham4330 no mate, after P company if you passed you did a three week exercise in the Brecon, you needed to pass that. Then to brize on your wings course. Then another exercise but jumping in etc.

No safety nets at all in `72 on the old, rickety, red barred trainasium just over the A325 by Rushmoor Arena. I did that in Junior Para as well aged 15.. No headgear in the milling either. Then off to Abingdon to get your wings. 2 X Balloon jumps, then 2 x Aircraft clean fatigue jumps then another 4 jumps with equipment, one being a night jump. Great days, great lads. Ahhh the memories but let us never forget the RAF Regt and their 5 miler of death and that they can go toe to toe with the Paras and Marines!

9yrs after that video and the RAF Regiment are still living rent free in your head.

Would be great recruitment video, doff my cap to anyone passing out after the gruelling training.
Passports are part of the kit now for these ceremonial soldiers
Anyone know the current fitness tests at selection centre and PRAC? What they’re asking now?

Well said, but our army is still being infiltrated!
Just be fit for a number of weeks basically
2 miler in 18mins isn't hard
20 miler isn't hard
Just be fit and you will pass.
That is as shite a post as Ive ever seen about Para Regt from @Glen38. Probably a dim civvy or a useless craphat.
What's the max age for the paras?
You can join up to 35 and a half 👊
@MikeThwaite Aw amazing, I still have a chance then! Thanks, I thought it would be like 25 or something, I'd have thought it to be a young man's game!
Just to note brothers the British army upped the age to 36 for Ruperts 18 too 29 untriqe paratus my bros
