I did P-Coy about thirty years ago. What do I remember about the ten-miler? Fight to get to the front as soon as you can so that you can tab at the PTI's pace. Otherwise, in the ranks you're constantly having to close gaps which saps your strength.
A useful tip: When you get to the top of a hill and find yourself on flatter ground, give it an extra burst of speed. Most people instinctively slow down at this point (either to catch their breath or because they think they "deserve" a rest). They will lose time over the course of a tab.
I think a basic starting point is knowing how to actually open your legs at a reasonable pace and how to shuffle. I remember people actually running when doubling on a 10 miler, if you know how to shuffle you can keep it up and cover descent distances in good time. Para Reg/P Coy mid 80s
Planning on joining the paras been my childhood dream building my body up two years to go mainly because I got done for substance misuse so I sadly got to wait two years it was also because of vitamin D deficiency been taking these multivitamins by the time these two years pass I can finally join up love watching you work it’s inspiring 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
So if I have substance misuse on my medical records- will I have to wait 2 years from the date on my record?? Damm I thought I’d need to just prove my with a clear drugs test maybe
@ yeah it’s stupid but it is what’s it’s going to be best part I’m going for Paras I can take the time to build myself up get into the feeling of being in training
@ so they told you you’ll need to wait two years because you had substance misuse on record? I had one case of it on my record am I likely to be told to come back in two years then? Or was this because of other factors as well?
@ if you got done for substance misuse let’s say in April and then you get the email a year later that would mean you’d just have to wait one year I’d assume
Most people don't know how to walk quickly for a decent distance with a weight on their back. It's that simple. Walk until your calves burn, ease off, go again. Ten years and you'll get there.
Love the videos. My goal is to complete the Paras10 in less than 1:50 next year. Any tips on blister avoidance - such as breaking boots in, hardening feet up etc
Hi im currently a joe in training just attempted P-COY and failed, made it through 10 and 20 miler best advice i can give you for avoiding blisters is get correctly fitted boots and get good high impact insoles for the inside of them, if you get sweaty feet like me its hard to avoid blisters but "Zinc Oxide Tape" works great for me and stops my feet from rubbing
Farran, serious videos man. I love throwing on a pack and going out for a run. No better feeling after a hard run with a pack. From your time in service, what was the fastest 10miler you remember anyone doing?? With weight

Great advice. Nothing worse than getting caught in the concertina effect in a squad 🥴
Para reg 80's so didn't have these luxuries... I'm 62 and still do 6 miles a day 5.30 start with 45lb on my back. Old school still works.
That's impressive, keep it up brilliant for muscle strength, bone density and cardiovascular fitness.
Top man, well done.
How many days week would you recommend?

1.20 not unheard of
A 10 kg weight would get you thrown of the course it had to represent a realistic combat load
What rucksack is that . Or does anyone recommend a reasonable priced one
What's the daysack brand please?
