The Last Guardian was revealed in the middle of 2009 with an anticipated date of 2011. It was released at the end of 2016 (holy hell, how has it been that long...). I'm not saying we won't get this until summer 2032, but it wouldn't be that out-there.
That game didn't have an 8 year gap between its reveal and the release of the previous game. Not saying that it won't happen, just that they didn't reveal even a tentative time frame so things might be different.
Yeah it might seem like they learned a lesson from revealing a game that was too early in development. And only revealed this game now because it might actually be coming out in a few years. (I'm definitely coping and lying to myself). @@AndrewS-vu4ji
I could be totally wrong, but here's what I'm thinking. We'll get a special 20th anniversary edition of "Shadow Of The Colossus" next year with new added content. Then in 2026 we'll get a remake of "ICO" to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that game. Then in 2027 Fumito Ueda will finally be ready to release his newest masterpiece. Of course his newest game could be ready for release sometime next year to coincide with the 20th anniversary of S.O.T.C. It's certainly a possibility.
There's no way. The last guardian was so screwed up from the loss of producers, studio restructuring, the PS4 release, engine updates and the like. The console ecosystem is much more stable now, epic is publishing, and it's being developed on Unreal. 2026 100%

@@Oskuzen when the trailer initially started and I saw "Epic Games" I turned away to do something else. But once the singing vocals started I got chills as it was so familiar and I instantly knew what this trailer was and had to rewind and actually watch it. At the end of the trailer you can read through the credits and his name is listed. I sat there with the screen paused to confirm what I heard lol. I'm so glad he's back.
The older I get, the harder it is for me to look at a threat or obstacle in a game and be like "oooh my goodness what is THAT..." but this trailer did it for me with that wave of annihilation the protagonist was fleeing
And we'll probably have this wonder about other things after we beat the game, but that's what's so great about his games. Make our brain think and consider possibilities... Most creators are afraid of this nowadays for some reason.
The little detail I loved in this trailer was the flickering white visual noise. It gave it this feeling like you’re watching a video feed of what’s happening and that the oncoming shockwave thing is giving off sone sort of radiation that’s messing with the camera.
I get what you mean but this game doesn’t fall into that bracket because it’s a newly established title, and it’s been in development since 2017 Fumito Ueda runs his own studio now. All of his older titles are Sony’s properties
His games feel like a story that a village elder would tell with a sparkle in his eyes. (The closest thing to a description I can think of) He's great indeed.
Something that really interests me is how the head detaches. The giant fans on either side of the head allows it to fly off, yet the way it detaches doesn't seem right. Sparks and debris fly off as the head rises; it looks like the action damages the machine. But then, if it's not intended to happen, why does the head have giant propelling fans? So strange
They could assist with full body propulsion but the body itself might not be functional to move. There could also be a sort of disconnecting procedure that isn't followed due to the incoming danger so it rips everything which might normally be disconnected before hand. Who knows if the game will even answer this!
Ngl the way it feels very.....organic, the way it detaches, definantly grosses me out on some human level. The spine was doing a dangly and that did not look like it should be doing that! Which is probably what ueda wanted from me

It's very difficult to understand because of how synthetic it is, but those aren't enemies arlo, that's a blast wave, there's so much story in it that I didn't notice on first watch _"Evacuate all areas within 25km radius of Ground Zero now"_ _"60 Seconds..."_ (Countdown decreases by 5 seconds until 30 seconds) _"Shockwave impact in 30 seconds"_ (resumes decrementing by 5 seconds until 10 seconds, in which it decrements by 1 until the blast wave hits)
Considering how frequently ueda uses alternative languages/non English language in his games, the way I took the trailers voice over was that it sounds similar to our language but it isn't. Cause honestly, I watched the non subbed trailer first and I could only understand the numbers. So maybe it's an alternative earth sort of thing. Or maybe a future in the sotc universe that has developed a language similar to ours but still feels different. Uedas games have always been set in an ancient world, this is the first time we've seen a sci-fi future from him. So I'm super super excited for it.
Arlo, I totally get it when you say you almost wish they hadn't shown it so you don't have to spend the next four years looking forward to it... but imo the future is immediately less bleak knowing, for sure, that a new Ueda/team ico/gendesign project really is happening.
That's pretty much what has kept me alive up until now. Having upcoming games I look forward to play or watch. Switch also just really saved gaming for me too.
I’m still reeling from the Okami sequel announcement. I was little concerned when Kamiya left Platinum, but the fact that he’s going back to Okami is such a perfect scenario! I’m not as experienced with Ueda’s projects, but I was always impressed by the sense of scale his games create unlike anything else. I remember being fascinated by the giant dog in The Last Guardian. That’s another thing, I also love games where you have a partner going with you so I was amazed at this boy riding a giant dog.
My first thought when I heard he was leaving: What if went back to Capcom? I wouldn't have even thought about if it wasn't for Gearbox going back to 2K.
Please, do yourself a massive favor and play The Last Guardian if you haven't! Or emulate ICO or SotC, they're all incredible! There's no order in which you need to play them in, but they all resonate with each other.

This was the most hype announcement at the Game Awards for me. I just played Ico and Shadow of the Colossus a few months ago and they genuinely changed my life. I'm so so happy rn.
Fumito Ueda’s works impacted me as an artist, it all started with the SOTC remake, I saw sotc SO many times throughout my life but didn’t bother to give it a look. Then I played ICO and it blew my mind as well, The Last Guardian I have to finish but the point is that these games feel so realistic. There’s a sense of mystery, curiosity, enchantment, mystical feeling that feels so unique despite how SIMPLE these games are. And don’t get me started on the sound design and music direction of these games, absolute majestic immersive news to it. I consider these games to be the Ghibli films of the video game industry. This was the highlight of the game awards for me. As soon as I saw the ICO name I almost blew up but I waited another milli second to see if it continued revealing another name until I realized it did NOT change and that’s when I knew what this reveal MEANT. Can’t wait to play it man. In Ueda we trust.
Shadow of The Colossus is my favorite game of all time, and the remake was an absolute dream and unquestionably the best remake ever made. That being said, if you haven't already, give the original a try on original hardware. You'll definitely miss the quality of life gameplay tweaks the remake had, but you'll get to see how Ueda essentially was trying to make a PS3 or even PS4 game on a PS2. It was immensely ambitious - conceptually and technically - and you'll see the PS2 trying it's damn best. I still play the remake for replays but I enjoy it even more knowing well what it was built over. Also, the visual style on PS2 helps hide the system's limitations but it also creates a dreamy impression, almost like a memory, and that hazy PS2 look is replaced in the remake with moody lighting that, while it does the original justice, makes the two games excel in their own ways.
What makes this case special is that most of TEAM ICO is still alive under GenDesign's leadership with Ueda. Koh Otani is also back on the soundtrack department, and even Mr Tanaka himself (the lead animator who did SO MANY animations since ICO by HAND with keyframing.) and you can notice that with how the character climbs and runs in a floaty manner. This is super rare in the game industry, usually so many of the maing cogs tend to all go their own way, but somehow not only the leadership is here but also even the small pieces that are the programmers, animators, etc.
The only trailer that gave me goosebumps. Fumito Ueda and his team are able to create an ephemeral world of a lost civilization with a unique atmosphere.
Getting real Nausicaa vibes from this, ancient broken down giant machines from wars long ago. I don't think there is going to be any mecha combat in this game, in fact I would be surprised to see any combat at all. Ueda's games always center on the theme of exploring ancient worlds, meddling with the ruins of powers that are long forgotten.
My sister is like the biggest fan of this series. I was the one who showed her the games but she ended up liking them even more than I did. The Last Guardian is her favorite.
I've been playing SOTC it was ONLY on the ps2, no hd remaster or anything, and gradually over time I got the ps3 remaster from my Uncle when it came out then after many years and having a job of course, and then they revealed the ps4 remake and that made me cry, but this reveal, made me SOB and scream and cry with so much joy in the voice channel on discord with all of my friends it was a legendary moment to finally see this revealed. Teased back in 2020 December for his new year banner on the Number 1 of 2021, for those that remember. SOTC is my ABSOLUTE favorite game of all time. I discovered it like finding a hidden treasure chest, in my Uncles closet, in a stack of dusty games, asked to play it, he let me, and I immediately fell in LOVEEEE forever, and still do to this day, do i cry to the opening because the music is so damn beautiful in this trailer. This game might even take the crown from how much I love sotc because this looks extremely promising already and the music score ugh it's all just, so perfect.
It might be sci-fi but it also looks a lot like Ueda's previous games. The mech's face reminds me of some ancient Greece statue. Maybe this takes place in the same universe. I love all of Ueda's games. They might all have janky controls, but they're still amazing. Last Guardian was so emotional.
Personally, The Last Guardian is my favorite of the three. It's really close between it and ICO, though SotC is extremely special as well. All three of Ueda-san's games tower above all other games I've ever played and it's not even close.
I agree. Despite the technical issues, his story came across to me well enough to be an all time favorite game. I always hoped it would get a bluepoint remaster to work out some of the issues.
Hell yeah! Same for me, though it's not such a close call for myself. Still, I have the same order of favorites: TLG, ICK, SotC Love them all, but for me, TLG had an impact on me no other game has ever had. On most days, I'd say that all three games are in my top 5, but TLG has been consistently #1 from the moment I rolled credits on it. I am a tad worried seeing this trailer, though. Everything looks awesome, but it looks like the MC is carrying a rifle on their back. I would be so freaking bummed if we're running around using a gun in this game. I really cant imagine a Fumito Ueda shooter, but after the (completely undeserved) shit show of TLG release, there may be some pressure (especially from Epic) to make a more generic, mass appeal game. Most people say SotC is the best of his games. But most people have also never actually played Ico. They know about it, and they know of it's legacy so they just lump it in when Ueda gets discussed. I think that's a big part of the toxic discourse that plagued TLG at launch. (Aside from 5 years of delay leading to absurd expectations. Thag, and the fact that 2016 gaming youtube primarily consisted of edgy smoothnrains trying to be the next AVGN. "Every minor flaw is actually a massive deal, and I have to yell about it. So, the camera is finicky, and the animal acts like an animal. The game is unplayable trash!" lmao) Many people just wanted more SotC, which is also Ueda's most videogamey title. They were disappointed when they didn't get that after waiting so long and being told to be mad at it. I just really hope Epic doesn't try to steer any aspects of the game in order to maximize appeal.
I’m glad somebody else is as hype about this as I was. I could only hope that other games I like start simplifying their trailers to artworks like this (looking at Kingdom Hearts)
I have such a love for Shadow of the Collosus that hearing your excitement for that game and this trailer endeared you more to me. Always happy for another game by this guy
The fact that it’s not only a new game from the creator of one of my favorite games, but it’s a MECHA game, feels like something specifically to make me happy. It’s like Shadow of the Colossus meets Gurren Lagann. I’m so unbelievably excited for this.
Here's my early theory. You'll explore the map taking out giant mechs along the way. Then using the parts you collect from them to build (or repair) your own mech which at the same time you'll be bonding with throughout the game. Then at the end you'll use your mech in a fearsome battle against an enemy (or enemies) & as expected the ending will be bittersweet. Ueda knows how much his fans want a sequel to S.O.T.C. or something similar. This could be his vision for that.
I genuinely yelled at my mecha loving friend saying that if anyone is fit to do a mecha game, it's god damn genDESIGN. The scale of their games and stories and the impact they have just makes them perfect and crazy enough to do that.
Shadow of the Colossus was the first game I ever replayed IMMEDIATELY after finishing it. In fact I played it 5 times back to back to back. Cannot wait for Project Robot.
My friends asked me if I had any hope for this year's game awards (I am notoriously disappointed with it every year) and I said "The only thing that will make me like this show is if a dev team I thought was dead comes back, like team ico or something but that ain't happening" Bruh the look on my face
For some reason I see Ueda's works among the best in gaming, if not the best, probably because of the story, ideas and atmosphere. They are pure art in video game form. Honestly this is the biggest one of the reveals for me to hype personally. Along with Okami of course, but this more.

Yup if it is then it's ether sooooo faar in the future after all the events of the other 3 games or more likely on another planet far in the future ether way this is going to be super interesting Heck we still don't even have a confirmation if last guardian was icos prequel or a sequel but it's obviously being in that same world no doubt.

It's okay Arlo I completely understand, a year or two ago when they first announced that they'd be partnered with Epic to make a new game with only a couple small images on their site I have been waiting to have more information and more to see of this and it was everything and more and not enough. Like others I've already been poking at the teaser with my eyes and thinking of how it relates to the games even! I can't wait until we get more and the game comes out, I've been hopeful that with Epic supporting this we might finally see it on multiple platforms? I'll probably buy a copy of it for each system if it does

Thinking about it now, I think I may have found your channel through your Last Guardian review. While I did not necessarily agree (Last Guardian is only behind Shadow for my favorite games of all time), I appreciated you being as excited about his games as you were. I definitely recommend going back and seeing if time may have changed the way you digest it. That said, there isn't an announcement in the world that could have made my heart stop faster than this one. I saw "Epic Publishing" and almost panicked a bit. I didn't wanna get excited and be wrong. But MAN does it look incredible. So different but so clearly in the vein of what came before. He's said this would be a bigger world similar to Shadow of the Colossus in a similar way to Last Guardian being more of a gameplay follow up to Ico.
Same here, I found his review after I beat The Last Guardian. Didn't fully agree, though "It's a PS4 game that looks like a PS3 game and plays like a PS2 game" felt pretty accurate. Subscribed to him anyway. Despite that it is still next to Shadow Of The Colossus as my favorite game of all time. It's crazy how an imperfect game can still leave such a lasting memory.
Ueda's games are always really special, and this looks like it will capture the same feelings as his previous games, so I'm super excited. My god though, what have they been doing these last eight years? I was hoping after so long that the next game would be wrapping up by now and we'd get a relatively quick reveal to release. The trailer looks like it's still very early in development though. Not even a release year and (presumably) still just a working title. Again, I'm excited, but it's hard to maintain the anticipation for 3+ years.
My friend, I feel you 100% GenDesign and Playdead are my favourite studios. As a day 1 Ico, SOtC & The last Guardian player I must confess that I love the latest the most. It's probably because of my dog 🥰 I love the vibe this trailer spreads.
The dissonance about that ending, the impending darkness and the despair of escaping contrasted with the hopeful, yet mindful music that plays. It reads as renovation, but one that will take a long time, caused by a necessary form of destruction.
I am so pleased that this trailer makes you really glad to see at least a little of the next game! The game looks awesome just from that trailer, while I haven’t played Ueda games I’d love to try some out sometime and I myself am actually already very interested in the game and what it’ll be. And yeah the trailer is really unique and in such an intriguing way
There was an animation test in either their website or UA-cam channel a few years ago that showed a giant running besides a tiny person, which may show that the mech is semi autonomous. The same animation test model however, also shows resemblence to another teaser image they released years ago, which shows a girl made of light next to a giant pig colossus. Fumito Ueda is also a big fan of the iron giant, so you can expect this game to make us cry like babies.
I have to hope this one is further along than The Last Guardian was in 09 when it got teased, maybe they've been working on it since '16? Maybe it won't be MIA til 2030! I hope we see it this decade!
Arlo, I'm surprised you didn't mention this, but since we see most of our mech-buddy gets destroyed, it can only mean that part of the gameplay must be us rebuilding him, which means there's a chance that we might be able to redesign him however we want.
They really packed a lot of blink and you’ll miss it details. The voice at the beginning sounds like a synthesized version of Dormin (not saying it’s the same creature but maybe thematically related). The player character seems to be robotic/augmented in some way (look closely at their legs), and what looks like a rifle on their back. If you compare this to previous concept art, it appears the game will partly take place around the aftermath of this cataclysmic event. It’s fun to speculate, I wonder how they’ll be expanding on previous themes/mechanics. Is the players mechanical nature used to integrate with other tech? Maybe the “rifle” will be used as a tool more than a weapon, maybe we’ll be reassembling our mech to take on others? Maybe maybe maybe…
I'm really curious if the companion in this game will be an A.I. that perhaps currently exists inside the robot head. Maybe in game it will be able to be transferred between various robotics before we ultimately at the end return to a fully function mech for the final battle/sequence.
Ahhh this was me, but with the Ōkami announcement 😭 Although this was super shocking as well! I have fond memories of playing Shadow of the Colossus with my ex back in the day, and this trailer just so enticing. I want more and it hurts that I won't know anything for so long 😭
To me, this wave will be something that will happen meny times in the game, cause the character doesn't show any surprise, or fear, he knew exactly he have to do when the wave is coming. I believe that the head of the mecha will be the part that we have to maintain, and we will have to find anether bodies for the mecha, to continue our journey. Maybe a journey to find the origin of these massive black waves and save the world.
I wonder if the explosion was intentional, as in a self-destructive of the body is part of this last-resort protocol, an energy explosion that takes out as many of the enemies as possible while the head retreats.
Can't wait to rebuild my mech from scratch after this opening cut scene to later come back with my new and improved mech to destroy them all... or not 😅
Back in the days after seeing the trailers my friend bought a PS3 only to play Final Fantasy: Versus 13 and The Last Guardian. Neither of them were released for the system.. Makes me wonder how long the development will be for this title.

My big question and anticipation is what is that darkness in the purple sky? In the distance coming at the character? That view gives kingdom hearts 1 end of the world vibe Very much from a lore building standpoint its already got my attention and peaked my interest aside from the gigantic mech and climbing as well as is this a alien planet or something? Grew up with SOTC original played the remake i played through the last guardian played ico a bit yeah i cant wait to see what ueda cooks up for this. One thing is for sure this time ueda is giving us a game way more higher lore advanced then all his previous game attempts!!!!

2035 will be a good year when Ueda finally complete the first stage of this and tell Epic Games to update the engine.

Perhaps because of Sega’s campaign to bring back older IPs brought lots of positive feedback so other companies tried to follow.

I’m still reeling from the Okami sequel announcement. I was little concerned when Kamiya left Platinum, but the fact that he’s going back to Okami is such a perfect scenario!
I’m not as experienced with Ueda’s projects, but I was always impressed by the sense of scale his games create unlike anything else. I remember being fascinated by the giant dog in The Last Guardian. That’s another thing, I also love games where you have a partner going with you so I was amazed at this boy riding a giant dog.
My first thought when I heard he was leaving: What if went back to Capcom?
I wouldn't have even thought about if it wasn't for Gearbox going back to 2K.
Please, do yourself a massive favor and play The Last Guardian if you haven't! Or emulate ICO or SotC, they're all incredible! There's no order in which you need to play them in, but they all resonate with each other.

I just played Ico and Shadow of the Colossus a few months ago and they genuinely changed my life.

Ueda is a genius. He’s like if Hideo Kojima didn’t get high off his own farts.
Fumito Ueda’s works impacted me as an artist, it all started with the SOTC remake, I saw sotc SO many times throughout my life but didn’t bother to give it a look. Then I played ICO and it blew my mind as well, The Last Guardian I have to finish but the point is that these games feel so realistic. There’s a sense of mystery, curiosity, enchantment, mystical feeling that feels so unique despite how SIMPLE these games are. And don’t get me started on the sound design and music direction of these games, absolute majestic immersive news to it. I consider these games to be the Ghibli films of the video game industry.
This was the highlight of the game awards for me. As soon as I saw the ICO name I almost blew up but I waited another milli second to see if it continued revealing another name until I realized it did NOT change and that’s when I knew what this reveal MEANT. Can’t wait to play it man. In Ueda we trust.
Shadow of The Colossus is my favorite game of all time, and the remake was an absolute dream and unquestionably the best remake ever made. That being said, if you haven't already, give the original a try on original hardware. You'll definitely miss the quality of life gameplay tweaks the remake had, but you'll get to see how Ueda essentially was trying to make a PS3 or even PS4 game on a PS2. It was immensely ambitious - conceptually and technically - and you'll see the PS2 trying it's damn best. I still play the remake for replays but I enjoy it even more knowing well what it was built over.
Also, the visual style on PS2 helps hide the system's limitations but it also creates a dreamy impression, almost like a memory, and that hazy PS2 look is replaced in the remake with moody lighting that, while it does the original justice, makes the two games excel in their own ways.
What makes this case special is that most of TEAM ICO is still alive under GenDesign's leadership with Ueda.
Koh Otani is also back on the soundtrack department, and even Mr Tanaka himself (the lead animator who did SO MANY animations since ICO by HAND with keyframing.) and you can notice that with how the character climbs and runs in a floaty manner.
This is super rare in the game industry, usually so many of the maing cogs tend to all go their own way, but somehow not only the leadership is here but also even the small pieces that are the programmers, animators, etc.
I think it has to do with the Japanese work culture and their lifelong commitment to the company

This was easily the biggest announcement of the entire decade so far to me.
The only trailer that gave me goosebumps. Fumito Ueda and his team are able to create an ephemeral world of a lost civilization with a unique atmosphere.
Getting real Nausicaa vibes from this, ancient broken down giant machines from wars long ago. I don't think there is going to be any mecha combat in this game, in fact I would be surprised to see any combat at all. Ueda's games always center on the theme of exploring ancient worlds, meddling with the ruins of powers that are long forgotten.

My sister is like the biggest fan of this series. I was the one who showed her the games but she ended up liking them even more than I did. The Last Guardian is her favorite.
I've been playing SOTC it was ONLY on the ps2, no hd remaster or anything, and gradually over time I got the ps3 remaster from my Uncle when it came out then after many years and having a job of course, and then they revealed the ps4 remake and that made me cry, but this reveal, made me SOB and scream and cry with so much joy in the voice channel on discord with all of my friends it was a legendary moment to finally see this revealed. Teased back in 2020 December for his new year banner on the Number 1 of 2021, for those that remember. SOTC is my ABSOLUTE favorite game of all time. I discovered it like finding a hidden treasure chest, in my Uncles closet, in a stack of dusty games, asked to play it, he let me, and I immediately fell in LOVEEEE forever, and still do to this day, do i cry to the opening because the music is so damn beautiful in this trailer. This game might even take the crown from how much I love sotc because this looks extremely promising already and the music score ugh it's all just, so perfect.
I waited for Last Guardian. I had the image of the chain as my wallpaper. I am excited, but I don't expect anything any time soon.
It might be sci-fi but it also looks a lot like Ueda's previous games. The mech's face reminds me of some ancient Greece statue. Maybe this takes place in the same universe. I love all of Ueda's games. They might all have janky controls, but they're still amazing. Last Guardian was so emotional.
Personally, The Last Guardian is my favorite of the three. It's really close between it and ICO, though SotC is extremely special as well. All three of Ueda-san's games tower above all other games I've ever played and it's not even close.

I agree. Despite the technical issues, his story came across to me well enough to be an all time favorite game. I always hoped it would get a bluepoint remaster to work out some of the issues.

Hell yeah! Same for me, though it's not such a close call for myself. Still, I have the same order of favorites: TLG, ICK, SotC
Love them all, but for me, TLG had an impact on me no other game has ever had. On most days, I'd say that all three games are in my top 5, but TLG has been consistently #1 from the moment I rolled credits on it.
I am a tad worried seeing this trailer, though. Everything looks awesome, but it looks like the MC is carrying a rifle on their back. I would be so freaking bummed if we're running around using a gun in this game.
I really cant imagine a Fumito Ueda shooter, but after the (completely undeserved) shit show of TLG release, there may be some pressure (especially from Epic) to make a more generic, mass appeal game.
Most people say SotC is the best of his games. But most people have also never actually played Ico. They know about it, and they know of it's legacy so they just lump it in when Ueda gets discussed. I think that's a big part of the toxic discourse that plagued TLG at launch. (Aside from 5 years of delay leading to absurd expectations. Thag, and the fact that 2016 gaming youtube primarily consisted of edgy smoothnrains trying to be the next AVGN. "Every minor flaw is actually a massive deal, and I have to yell about it. So, the camera is finicky, and the animal acts like an animal. The game is unplayable trash!" lmao)
Many people just wanted more SotC, which is also Ueda's most videogamey title. They were disappointed when they didn't get that after waiting so long and being told to be mad at it.
I just really hope Epic doesn't try to steer any aspects of the game in order to maximize appeal.

The fact that it’s not only a new game from the creator of one of my favorite games, but it’s a MECHA game, feels like something specifically to make me happy. It’s like Shadow of the Colossus meets Gurren Lagann. I’m so unbelievably excited for this.

Here's my early theory. You'll explore the map taking out giant mechs along the way. Then using the parts you collect from them to build (or repair) your own mech which at the same time you'll be bonding with throughout the game. Then at the end you'll use your mech in a fearsome battle against an enemy (or enemies) & as expected the ending will be bittersweet. Ueda knows how much his fans want a sequel to S.O.T.C. or something similar. This could be his vision for that.
I genuinely yelled at my mecha loving friend saying that if anyone is fit to do a mecha game, it's god damn genDESIGN.
The scale of their games and stories and the impact they have just makes them perfect and crazy enough to do that.
Shadow of the Colossus is the defining video game for me. It has shaped my philosophy of what gaming as a medium is, of how games tell stories.
This is my most anticipated game now

Shadow of the Colossus was the first game I ever replayed IMMEDIATELY after finishing it. In fact I played it 5 times back to back to back. Cannot wait for Project Robot.
My friends asked me if I had any hope for this year's game awards (I am notoriously disappointed with it every year) and I said "The only thing that will make me like this show is if a dev team I thought was dead comes back, like team ico or something but that ain't happening"

For some reason I see Ueda's works among the best in gaming, if not the best, probably because of the story, ideas and atmosphere. They are pure art in video game form. Honestly this is the biggest one of the reveals for me to hype personally. Along with Okami of course, but this more.

It's okay Arlo I completely understand, a year or two ago when they first announced that they'd be partnered with Epic to make a new game with only a couple small images on their site I have been waiting to have more information and more to see of this and it was everything and more and not enough. Like others I've already been poking at the teaser with my eyes and thinking of how it relates to the games even! I can't wait until we get more and the game comes out, I've been hopeful that with Epic supporting this we might finally see it on multiple platforms? I'll probably buy a copy of it for each system if it does

Thinking about it now, I think I may have found your channel through your Last Guardian review. While I did not necessarily agree (Last Guardian is only behind Shadow for my favorite games of all time), I appreciated you being as excited about his games as you were. I definitely recommend going back and seeing if time may have changed the way you digest it. That said, there isn't an announcement in the world that could have made my heart stop faster than this one. I saw "Epic Publishing" and almost panicked a bit. I didn't wanna get excited and be wrong. But MAN does it look incredible. So different but so clearly in the vein of what came before. He's said this would be a bigger world similar to Shadow of the Colossus in a similar way to Last Guardian being more of a gameplay follow up to Ico.
Same here, I found his review after I beat The Last Guardian. Didn't fully agree, though "It's a PS4 game that looks like a PS3 game and plays like a PS2 game" felt pretty accurate. Subscribed to him anyway. Despite that it is still next to Shadow Of The Colossus as my favorite game of all time. It's crazy how an imperfect game can still leave such a lasting memory.

Ueda's games are always really special, and this looks like it will capture the same feelings as his previous games, so I'm super excited. My god though, what have they been doing these last eight years? I was hoping after so long that the next game would be wrapping up by now and we'd get a relatively quick reveal to release. The trailer looks like it's still very early in development though. Not even a release year and (presumably) still just a working title. Again, I'm excited, but it's hard to maintain the anticipation for 3+ years.

The dissonance about that ending, the impending darkness and the despair of escaping contrasted with the hopeful, yet mindful music that plays. It reads as renovation, but one that will take a long time, caused by a necessary form of destruction.

best moral message and biggest epic anime of all time hands down.
There was an animation test in either their website or UA-cam channel a few years ago that showed a giant running besides a tiny person, which may show that the mech is semi autonomous.
The same animation test model however, also shows resemblence to another teaser image they released years ago, which shows a girl made of light next to a giant pig colossus.
Fumito Ueda is also a big fan of the iron giant, so you can expect this game to make us cry like babies.
I have to hope this one is further along than The Last Guardian was in 09 when it got teased, maybe they've been working on it since '16? Maybe it won't be MIA til 2030! I hope we see it this decade!

Arlo, I'm surprised you didn't mention this, but since we see most of our mech-buddy gets destroyed, it can only mean that part of the gameplay must be us rebuilding him, which means there's a chance that we might be able to redesign him however we want.

The trailer is as if it is a "Game Over" scenario.
They really packed a lot of blink and you’ll miss it details. The voice at the beginning sounds like a synthesized version of Dormin (not saying it’s the same creature but maybe thematically related). The player character seems to be robotic/augmented in some way (look closely at their legs), and what looks like a rifle on their back. If you compare this to previous concept art, it appears the game will partly take place around the aftermath of this cataclysmic event.
It’s fun to speculate, I wonder how they’ll be expanding on previous themes/mechanics. Is the players mechanical nature used to integrate with other tech? Maybe the “rifle” will be used as a tool more than a weapon, maybe we’ll be reassembling our mech to take on others? Maybe maybe maybe…

I'm really curious if the companion in this game will be an A.I. that perhaps currently exists inside the robot head. Maybe in game it will be able to be transferred between various robotics before we ultimately at the end return to a fully function mech for the final battle/sequence.

To me, this wave will be something that will happen meny times in the game, cause the character doesn't show any surprise, or fear, he knew exactly he have to do when the wave is coming. I believe that the head of the mecha will be the part that we have to maintain, and we will have to find anether bodies for the mecha, to continue our journey. Maybe a journey to find the origin of these massive black waves and save the world.
I really liked playing through Titanfall 1 + 2 with the computer controlled titan when I wasn’t piloting it, this looks very interesting

I wonder if the explosion was intentional, as in a self-destructive of the body is part of this last-resort protocol, an energy explosion that takes out as many of the enemies as possible while the head retreats.

Back in the days after seeing the trailers my friend bought a PS3 only to play Final Fantasy: Versus 13 and The Last Guardian. Neither of them were released for the system..
Makes me wonder how long the development will be for this title.

Very much from a lore building standpoint its already got my attention and peaked my interest aside from the gigantic mech and climbing as well as is this a alien planet or something?
Grew up with SOTC original played the remake i played through the last guardian played ico a bit yeah i cant wait to see what ueda cooks up for this.
One thing is for sure this time ueda is giving us a game way more higher lore advanced then all his previous game attempts!!!!
