It *might* be easier for Bella, too, who is sliding around a bit trying to get down without touching the grips. Still, AWESOME build
I've lost so many of my kitties since moving to this state from predators,I finally lost it and discovered CATIOS on Pinterest. Now my cats can run free and I don't have to worry like I did. CATIOS are the best, great job! P.S. maybe add some pieces of outdoor carpet to the climbing board for more traction.🐱🐾🐾🐾💖
When we wanted to take our cat out we put a leash on him and took him to the park. We brought an extendable leash to let him run around a bit. In our back yard we never let him leave the yard and always stand right next to him or close without a leash so he can roam freely.
Same, we used to let our cat outside freely and it was fine. Then he started a habit of climbing to the top of our 50 ft tree and getting stuck. Then he would just jump off and get scared and hurt. Now we have to keep him on a leash
Same, I live in a top floor apartment and my cat still goes outside almost daily. I just stand there while he sniffs around the neighbors patio and torments their indoor cat through the glass patio door. He's usually done with his "walk" after 10 minutes and runs back up the stairs when he hears any loud noise lol
I adopted two young kittens from a stray mom, and they're 100% house cats by choice, lol. We planned to get them used to the outside, but they refuse and hide every time we try to take them outside. Sure, they explore a bit, but in 2 minutes, they're back and clawing at the door. They seem content with just living inside, chilling, and exploring indoors. So I guess it just depends on the cat.
I love this channel so much, almost any other UA-camr would have picked up their cats and put them in the bubble just for content, but you don’t because you can see that they don’t want to go in. It shows that your really love them and it’s amazing.
I’m pretty sure those are climbing wall grips for humans, how does he think the cats are going to grip them?? 😂 that plank needs astroturf or some other grippy surface so they can walk on it comfortably! 😭😭😭

It's not cruel to keep cats indoors. With a little effort and creativity on your part, your cat can have just as much of a fulfilling life indoors as outdoors. I have two cats right now and although they were raised outside by their foster parents, I refuse to let them out unsupervised. When I get my own place, I also want to build a catio, plus make cat superhighways inside. You're doing great, Chris. Don't pay mind to people saying otherwise. ❤️

Hi, this is an incredible deed of mercy and care, which I adore! What a patio! But I immediately thought of the following. - Is it safe to keep the lights in the open air under conditions of the British weather? Is is safe as to shortcuts in the times of rain? - I would suggest to smoothen (polish) every plywood and wood piece and to cover them with some stuff that is soft and not sliding, so that cats wouldn't injure their soft paws with woody stingy chops. or maybe to wrap them in some special protective material. - Same thoughts are about the sitting places - they have straight and rough edges and corners which are better be trimmed and covered with protective rubbers or sorta that, what about taking them off and cutting to ovals or at least rectangles with rounded corners? Cats could be absolutely protected at the moment of speedy springs. - What about translucent materials for the roof - I think I saw smth like this made of heat proof plastic. You then could cover the entire patio without blocking the natural light in the area. Apart from that the idea is marvelous and I keep on thinking of doing smth of the kind in my apartment. Thank you for showing that brilliant solutions are not that complicated to bring into life! Lotta love for your fluffy friends!
This was a month ago but I'll try and answer some!! The lighting: the UK often has weather proofed electronics especially for the outdoors! Since we are so used to weird changes so suddenly, alot of our housing is built around keeping rain and the cold out, whilst being dry and warm indoors! The clear roofing: whilst it would maybe look nicer, sadly it would create a greenhouse effect, or magnifying glass effect where the occasional sun would become hotter! And because Ralph is also a black cat with extra fluff.. a no go sadly - and I'm not too sure how accessable heat-proof plastic is here!! I hope this helped a little !!

Also, the reason for not covering the wood with softer materials is because of the wet weather the UK often gets. If the wood was covered with fabric of any kind, like a cat tree would be, it would not hold up for very long. The wood beneath would stay wet longer than it does when it is bare because the fabric would hold the dampness in. This would cause the wood to rot faster and then be more dangerous for the kitties. Even worse is that the fabric would be wet and cold, making it uncomfortable for the kitties because their fur does not repel water the same way a dog's fur does, and they would be cold out there and would probably not use the catio. As to smoothing out the wood, you actually do not want to do that as it will make the surface slick and hard for the kitties to grip. The pads on the bottom of cats' feet feet provide traction, and are coarse to increases friction when walking Cat paws contain large concentrations of nerve receptors, turning your cat's cute paws into finely tuned sensory organs. Because of these receptors, cats can feel changes in texture, pressure, and possibly vibrations through their paw pads. It has been my personal experience that my cats are therefore more careful about where they put their feet and how much pressure they put down, moving their paws off something sharp before they ever put any pressure on them. None of my cats has ever come to me with a splinter. My dogs, however, don't seem to feel such things until they have well and truly stepped on them and it's buried in their paw, at which point my cats look at them disdainfully and shake their heads at the dog's foolishness. 😆

@@Ivan18584 Renting in the UK totally sucks. You are rarely allowed pets at all, and practically need permission to put up a picture. It‘s one of the main reasons I left the place.
My cat couldn't handle being stuck inside. Everytime we moved, he would fight to be an outdoor cat. It was his reason for living. He always came back, though, no matter where we lived.
My cat got so depressed she was just going to the bathroom anywhere, not eating, tearing out her fur. The only thing that helped and brought her back was outside. I think it's responsible to keep a cat an indoor cat if they can mentally handle it, but some cats would rather die than stay inside and I'm not going to sacrifice my childhood cat that way. She's the only one of my three cats that is allowed outside. The others get walked on harnesses
it is absolutely disgraceful that some ppl keep cats locked up inside of apartments without allowing them to roll up on the floor under the sunlight or feeling the breeze of life My cats love and need the outside. I don't allow them to be out at night I wanna put up those rolling long tubes made up for cats on my walls so they only go out to my yard and not the street soon
"Cat roller" is the namenof the tool i was referring to. a local brand of mine that produces it is called "rollercat". look up for it just for you guys to take it as an example because the tool can be replaced with regular pipe
I take my cat outside on walks, always on a harness and leash, or in the backyard on a 50ft leash, always supervised. He’ll spend hours outside just enjoying the sun. I recommend this if you don’t have money for a catio:)
I also have a diy Catiopatiogarden, my Babyfur loves it. She has scratch posts, pads, cat grass, solar-powered water fountains and lights, catnip plant, succulents, cat friendly flowers plant's she likes being out on the patio garden more then inside. It'sdon't mind at all......LOL its all for her Catiopatiogarden 😻
its fantastic that you brought Catios to peoples attention and i hope that more can consider getting a safe catio for their furfriend ! the idea that keeping cats indoor is cruel is very outdated and proven wrong many times :) ! like with all pets, its all a case of giving your cat the very individual enrichment that it needs, and any cat can thrive indoors! Sadly a lot of times unsupervised outdoor access is an excuse for people to straight up neglect their animal! its like they think "i dont have time to take care of my cats needs, so i will just open the door and the streets will take care of that." not really evaluating all the MASSIVE CONS that come with a free roaming cat. because... thats just how its always been, right? not even touching upon the 63 species of animals that were brought to extinction because of cats, or the millions of pet cats that get run over every year, many times very preventable diseases wont be caught in outdoor cats, because the owner cant really see when for example, the cat has worrisome stools. bc they took a poo in the neighbors garden instead of the litter box where the owner could see first signs of an illness. or many behavioral problems that go unnoticed untill the cat just wont return from its daily strolls. but also i understand that sometimes there just are cats that have so much extra energy that they really benefit from outdoor time or like in your case, its just nice if people can provide a safe space for them to chill in the sun! and thats when a catio or leashtraining is absolutely the best option! :) keep your cats and the fragile local ecosystem happy! :) thank you so much for your video!
I never understand the argument that keeping a cat indoors is cruel. I have had indoor cats and outdoors and by far the most happiest cats have been indoor cats. They dont have other cats stressing them out and neighbours and humans that hate them. Letting your cats outside is detrimental to the environmental, here in Australia there is a big push to keep cats indoors for this reason (most rescues and breeders will advocate for this). However that said, I think the most happiest medium is a catio! The bets of both of worlds
I keep almost crying because of the loss of Reggie and Tom, I dont understand how you survived... :'( But still, Keep up the good work! Anything is possible in life as long as you believe in it!
I do love cats but they are behind many insects, birds and even small lizards almost going extinct. So I like that you find some "middle way" how to give them their outside time and still protect the nature.

This is so cool! I love how much care and consideration went into this. The climbing steps are adorable, and so is Bella avoiding them. Great job! Thank you for sharing your building adventure. :D
A cat flap would be great so they could get in and out when you are not around to let them out
Unfortunately we can't, since the house is a rental :(
@@HalfAsleepChris This is so sad. Can we get an F in the chat?
Yes an F in the chat
@@HalfAsleepChris oh that’s unfortunate, if you could it would really help the cats
@@Ivan18584 Renting in the UK totally sucks. You are rarely allowed pets at all, and practically need permission to put up a picture. It‘s one of the main reasons I left the place.
Your cats are so cute! 🤍🩶🖤🩵💛🤍
It’s only a matter of time until he buys his cats a country or state, or even the moon.
Absolutely delightful video.. and beautiful work on the catio.. so nice to see cats being cared for so well...😊
The lengths Chris goes to to make sure his cats are living their best lives is beautiful! Well done 👏🏻
Hello Katie how are you doing today
what a beautiful video and beautiful cats . lovvvvvvvveee
i like how Ralph tries his best to step on the grips, while on the other hand Bella is trying to avoid them

My cat couldn't handle being stuck inside. Everytime we moved, he would fight to be an outdoor cat. It was his reason for living. He always came back, though, no matter where we lived.
It's so much trouble to keep our cats inside for even a day on the doctors orders
Same with my cat
My cat got so depressed she was just going to the bathroom anywhere, not eating, tearing out her fur. The only thing that helped and brought her back was outside.
I think it's responsible to keep a cat an indoor cat if they can mentally handle it, but some cats would rather die than stay inside and I'm not going to sacrifice my childhood cat that way. She's the only one of my three cats that is allowed outside. The others get walked on harnesses
it is absolutely disgraceful that some ppl keep cats locked up inside of apartments without allowing them to roll up on the floor under the sunlight or feeling the breeze of life
My cats love and need the outside.
I don't allow them to be out at night
I wanna put up those rolling long tubes made up for cats on my walls so they only go out to my yard and not the street soon
"Cat roller" is the namenof the tool i was referring to.
a local brand of mine that produces it is called "rollercat". look up for it just for you guys to take it as an example because the tool can be replaced with regular pipe
I like how in the build montage the building sounds match with the song perfectly
I'm so happy to see someone in the UK embracing the catio. I wish I had a house so I could make one :(
Wait you don’t have a house at all? Or you just don’t own your own house?

I take my cat outside on walks, always on a harness and leash, or in the backyard on a 50ft leash, always supervised. He’ll spend hours outside just enjoying the sun. I recommend this if you don’t have money for a catio:)
We built a Cat-run for two kittens, Sky and Angel, who we were looking after, but now it's a meshless tortoise run,
The struggling screwdriver sounds like something my cat would be afraid of

The grips may be hurting Bella's paws. Maybe try some carpet pads that she can curl her claws into.

It'sdon't mind at all......LOL its all for her Catiopatiogarden 😻
Sounds like you have more than enough tools to start a UA-cam channel
These cats make my day better
the sheer amount of pain and blood hes done to do these films, is insane. especially syncronizing the building to the music. nice job chris
I love the climbing grips. Great Idea!
Hello Polly how are you doing today
its fantastic that you brought Catios to peoples attention and i hope that more can consider getting a safe catio for their furfriend !
the idea that keeping cats indoor is cruel is very outdated and proven wrong many times :) ! like with all pets, its all a case of giving your cat the very individual enrichment that it needs, and any cat can thrive indoors! Sadly a lot of times unsupervised outdoor access is an excuse for people to straight up neglect their animal! its like they think "i dont have time to take care of my cats needs, so i will just open the door and the streets will take care of that." not really evaluating all the MASSIVE CONS that come with a free roaming cat. because... thats just how its always been, right? not even touching upon the 63 species of animals that were brought to extinction because of cats, or the millions of pet cats that get run over every year,
many times very preventable diseases wont be caught in outdoor cats, because the owner cant really see when for example, the cat has worrisome stools. bc they took a poo in the neighbors garden instead of the litter box where the owner could see first signs of an illness. or many behavioral problems that go unnoticed untill the cat just wont return from its daily strolls.
but also i understand that sometimes there just are cats that have so much extra energy that they really benefit from outdoor time or like in your case, its just nice if people can provide a safe space for them to chill in the sun! and thats when a catio or leashtraining is absolutely the best option! :)
keep your cats and the fragile local ecosystem happy! :)
thank you so much for your video!
Such a clever idea
This is the best thing ever!! I laughed, was in awe and fell in love with your babies! ❤
I Bet Reggie And Tom Are Very Proud And Enjoying Seeing Bella And Ralph So Happy :>😃
That was very nice of you to do what you did in this video ❤️
Why is no one talking about how the montage was syncing to the music
Because its a thing that he uses for most of his videos so its nothing new
I showed the point where that happened
because e v e r y o n e does that
Lol
My cat loves too watch your cat video's! 😸

Half-asleep Chris your cats are the cutest thing ever!
I do love cats but they are behind many insects, birds and even small lizards almost going extinct. So I like that you find some "middle way" how to give them their outside time and still protect the nature.
This seems pretty extreme. What’s the source for this? I would think that destruction of habitat plays a far larger role.
Ralph: Oo this will help me climb up!

I love bella cause she has a donut around her neck 😊. BTW I have a cat named Bella as well she's just 1!!
You made the right decision 👏 I'd love to do this for my indoor cats. But I live in an apartment so they're harness training for walks til I can move.
You should add a cat bed in the centre circle so that that area has an incentive
Grand solution. Loved the montage.
Wow! Best Catio i have seen yet! I can tell you really care about your cats well-being. It's always refreshing to see😊
