- 10 Classic 1970s & 1980s TV Show Stars Who Are NOT DEAD YET. Sole Survivors of Classic TV Sitcom and 70s & 80s TV Series who continue to represent the best TV shows from The GEN Xperience. Wonder Woman, Bionic Woman, Ginger Grant, Steve Austin, Joyce DeWitt Janet, Bob Newhart Show, Incredible Hulk, and more TV Shows Lead Characters who are still alive, the last lone survivor of a favorite Classic TV show from the 1970s & 1980s.
At 94, John Astin is the last surviving cast member of The Addams Family. I loved that show when I was little. I watched The Munsters as well, but I always preferred The Addams Family. I always wished they were my neighbors. :)

John Astin being the sole survivor of the 1960s sitcom of The Addams family, was one I missed too.
Especially since in the later movies it was Raul Julia who was the first of the main cast to die. After all Julia and Astin both portrayed Gomez Addams in their respective adaptions of The Addams Family, which makes it a kind of very tragic irony.
Micky Dolenz is the only surviving Monkee.
And I was obsessed with that show. Dammit
"Pleasant Valley Sunday" is such a great song and my favorite vocal performance by Mickey.
Barbara Eden is the last surviving cast member of "I Dream Of Jeannie".

I loved the Hulk. I was bullied in school and used to fantasize about "hulking out" on the bullies constantly.
Thank you for sharing that. I can't say it was ever the HULK, but I know I fantasized about my favorite heroes helping me through some tough times. Still loved the Hulk show though, even if that beginning scared me, lol.
My dad just passed away very recently. A few moths before he was talking about how when he was out and about, he never ran into old friends and acquaintances anymore. He said they all died. I told him he won. We had a little laugh about it. Boy I miss him. Anyway, so here in this video we have some other winners. Congrats folks!

All 3 actresses, Tina Louise, Judith Baldwin & Constance Forslund, who portrayed Ginger Grant in series & TV movies are still alive.
The pilot Ginger Grant, Kit Smythe, passed away. As well as the voice sctressses of Ginger Grant in the later Saturday morning cartoon series. Both Jane Webb & our beloved Mary Ann Dawn Wells herself.
Such history, and so many ins and outs. I know Pilot "Ginger" was a different character, but I did think Dawn did both Ginger and MA on the cartoon. Wow.
Barbara Eden is still around but that was a sixties show.
I should have added her too. Although I like to begin aft 65, I have wiggle room: And Gilligan is 64, so why not Barbara. Of course, Barbara. Thank you

Technically, Burt Ward is the sole surviving cast member of Batman, as Julie Newmar's Catwoman was always a guest villainess.
I suppose your right. I had thought that the "pilot" movie included all those key villains, so I didn't include Burt. There are some gray areas to some of these, but you are correct. Thank you

The ending of The modern Newhart show still makes me smile when he wakes up next to Susanne Pleshette, one of the best series endings ever!
There were so many great series in the 60's, 70's and 80's! Newer stuff just doesn't touch the heartstrings like the older stuff!

Nice video. If you do a video on pre-1970 shows, Micky Dolenz on the Monkees could also be included along with Jerry Mathers from Leave It To Beaver, and I believe Jay North is probably the only survivor from Dennis The Menace.
Technically I did get Gilligan in there, but you are right...why not Monkees (one of my favs), Addams Family. I TRY not to go before 64 to keep it in The GEN Xperience (although of course I watched all of those too, lol) Thanks for writing.
I'm glad I got to grow up during that time with all the great shows back in the day. I hope there will be a part 2. There are some that you missed. Either way I'm glad I got to grow up back in the day and in a simpler time.

From the 1960's show Get Smart co star Barbara Feldon is still alive.
I did enjoy that show, and it started just at the top of the GEN Xperience, so would have fit perfect.

I totally thought of her as Lost in Space, but sure is Lassie's Mom....I would have to see if that kid is still alive to see if she is Sole Survivor. 99? WOW.

I wanted to, even if with a 1961 debut it is a little out of the GEN Xperience I cover on this channel, Larry Mathews (little Richie) is still alive. So he may be the sole survivor soon enough. GULP
Interesting and wonderful that all the primetime Superheroes of the 70s are still with us. The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman and the Incredible Hulk!

She wasnt original regular cast. She came so many seasons later
The show Archie Bunkers place was a spin-off of All in the family and she was on from the beginning. It is the show that Edith died on.

Bruce has always been Banner's middle name ever since he was created back in the late 60's. His real first name is Robert. I never understood the whole 'David' thing. Don't know why they didn't just call him 'Robert' on the TV series. I guess the producers/writers were ignorant that he had a different first name and had never read a Hulk comic in their entire lives or seen a Hulk cartoon.
I'm sure they didn't know Robert. I certainly have always known him as Bruce.
@@GENXPERIENCE Plus there are interviews in which Kenneth Johnson, the executive producer and creative force stated he changed the name as he never liked alliterative names such as Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Bruce Banner.
According to most sources the network thought the name Bruce sounded too gay ( big no no in 1978). The producers also didn't like the penchant of comic books characters having the first and last name starting with the same letter; Peter Parker, Reed Richards, Susan Storm Lois Lane and yes, Bruce Banner. They were aware of Banner's first name being Robert but Robert is often shortened to Bob which goes back to the same problem; Bob Banner. By using the name David it made him more like a real person and not a comic book character. They felt rooting the show in the real world would draw adult viewers and not just kids. At one point they even wanted to make The Hulk red instead of green because it made more sense!

Victor, to be clear, there are still a few of the Batman villains who are still alive, including Julie Newmar (1st Catwoman) and oddly, John Astin (2nd Riddler).
But they were not regulars; they were guest stars. And your video explicitly stated that you excluded, among others, "guest stars."
As for the regulars of Batman, they are all deceased: Adam West, Neil Hamilton, Alan Napier, Madge Blake, Stafford Repp, and yes, even Yvonne Craig (Batgirl, S3).
The only surviving regular cast member from "Batman" is indeed Burt Ward.
Produce a Volume II. Based on the feedback in the comments and your further research, I am certain there will be enough material for you to produce a sequel. Produce a Volume II and your loyal Subscribers will show up, big time!

@@GENXPERIENCE His character was a comic book artist, and they even had real life comic creators on the show sometimes, which made BOB the greatest of the three shows, but then for some reason I guess the star decided that being a comic artist was corny, so he switched the character's job to greeting card artist, then POOF it was gone. Didn't even finish the season.
If you do it Part 2, be sure to include Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeannie.
SOunds like there needs to be: Barbara Eden, John Astin, Burt Ward, Barbra Feldon, etc. SO many still alive and kicking. But I better be fast.
The primetime TV shows of the 60s became the afternoon reruns of the 70s, allowing the next generation of kids to grow up with them.

90. She was born Feb 11, 1934.
Raquel Welch was supposed to play Bunny, a character similar to the Ginger role played by Tina Louise, but she withdrew from the project because she got the role in 1,000,000 Years B.C. By the way, I caught your pun in the Wonder Woman segment. "Titular" indeed... For those who don't know, the original pilot episode of Three's Company had Valerie Curtin as a character similar to Joyce DeWitt's Janet Wood, and Suzanne Zenor was in a role sorta kinda like Suzanne Somers' Chrissy Snow.
Now that is some cool information. Thank you. I did find a picture of Raquel on Mork and Mindy as the leader of some female Aliens, though, lol.
That is incorrect. Yes, Raquel was up for the part in Gilligan's Island, but that was several years before One Million Years BC was filmed so that was not the reason she did not get the role
I'm 74 and rarely watched any of these TV shows as I was too busy working, taking care of my family and home. But my kids remember them and loved watching them. You might mention Mayberry RFD as Ron Howard is still around. When my daughter was young she called it "The Barney show" because she thought Barney was the best! My wife hated Wonder woman and was jealous of Linda Carter and her 18in waist! My son loved the Six Million Dollar man and The Hulk. I've always liked Bob Newhart but only saw a couple of episodes of his two TV shows, I mostly remember his stand-up routines like the driving instructor, still funny today!
We used to have Bob's shows on Album. I am the youngest of family of 11, and so I was lucky to have so much from the 50 sand 60s in my house as I was a 70s and 80s kind of guy. Thank you for your comments and thoughts. And oh, that Barney Fife, lol

I had never heard of the Lynda Carter/ Kiss video before so, I just had to look it up. Darn near had a heart attack seeing her in another outfit that comes close to her appeal in the Wonder Woman outfit. Between Mortica Addams, Maryann, Wonder Woman and Mindy my dreams as a young man were sweet

I'm one of the Generation Jones part of the Boomer era. I was born in the early 60's so there are a lot of cast members that have passed away from shows I watched.

William Shatner and George Takei from Star Trek are the only ones from the first episode (The Man Trap) that are still with us. (although Takei only has credit for 52 episodes)

Tina Louise did not have a real problem with the cast, but with Sherwood Schwarz. That's why she would never work on his follow up projects. She started saying more nice things about GI and cast after Schwartz died.
I saw Tina Louise on Knight Rider, episode named "The Topaz Connection".
Really? I am not surprised, but honestly saw her on very few things as a guest star. I know she must have, but felt like she faded away, sadly.

Actually, had Gilligan's Island gone in the original direction, two more cast members are still around! That would be Kitt Smythe - Ginger and Nancy McCarthy - Bunny. Two secretaries instead of movie star and farm girl. Also, Carol Ita White from Laverne and Shirley appeared in the first season, but not as Big Rosie Greenbaum until season two!
I do mention the secretary take for the pilot in my show, for sure. What a difference that would make, huh?

"This Is Spinal Tap" (1984)
"A Mighty Wind" (2003)
"Best In Show" (2000)
He also appeared in "For Your Consideration" (2006) but wasn't a major part of that one.
While we're on the subject of mockumentaries, "Waiting For Guffman" (1996) is another that should be added to this list, even though McKean isn't in that one. It's still funny. =)

I mention in the show that because she is NOT original 6 Million Dollar Man cast member having appeared in season 3 to start her own show, so only Lee Major survives that. But he was only guest for her show, so she is only survivor of Bionic Woman.

Well, Lionel is still alive and he was part of that original cast of the Jefferson's. Although I think you are right about Ron, that show is from 1960s and a little out of the GEN Xperience (although it played forever and still does, lol)

If my memory is correct, Gilligan's Island was from the1960s. Other sole surviving main cast members from.past TV shows are Burt Ward as Robin from Batman, Max Baer Jr. as Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillies, Ron Howard as Opie from the Andy Griffith Show, Gary Raymond as Sgt. Jack Moffitt from the Rat Patrol, Marlo Thomas from That Girl (?), Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 from Get Smart (?), Barbara Eden as Jeanne from I Dream of Genie. I am pretty sure that I got most of these correct. If anyone discovers that I was incorrect / wrong then please don't hesitate to send in a correct answer.
Yes, it came out in 1964....but it was survived by so many GEN X youngsters I had to put it in. As with all of my shows I try hard to keep it to the GEN Xperience. So things that came after 1965 for sure, so many of those are stretching back a lot further...but most of them are still true, so I think you did get them all!
