Larry i’m following you for 2-3 years now, and ever since i never missed a episode. Because of u i just want to be a detailer to, i already started with wrapping cars but i want my own bussines in car detailing and wrapping. It would be awesome to meet you in person and get a full class on detailing from begin to end. Your video’s explaining allot but things like this are awesome to learn 1 on 1!! Keep up the good work, soon my “new” garage is hopefully a beginning to the detaling level you are! With the Ammo kit ofcourse.

Once again, Thank You Larry! Quick note. After washing our white Ford F150, dried using Hydrate, I was doing my walk around making sure all was good. Found schmutz and a couple of dots here and there that were not removed during wash. Towel, Finger, 'Hydrate'. Wiped right off. :) No where near Hot Rubber and Bugs but I wanted to share... Being a Drag Racer, we use to put a light mist of Pam Cooking Spray on the rear in an effort for rubber not to stick so bad. :P

Regarding the chemistry of why the Skin works, remember that "like dissolves like." Whatever solvent keeps the skin liquid in the bottle will also soften it to help lift the contaminants. That rule "like dissolves like" helps so much in cleaning anything, best thing I learned from studying chemistry.

This strongly reminds me of show I watched as a kid. One episode the kids got gum in the carpet. A little research and they figured out that they use vegetable oil in modern gum to keep it chewable. A little oil, a little scrubbing, voila!

It's the same principble as using peanut butter to remove chewing gum for hair. The AMMO skin stops the rubber from sticking back to the paint once you displace it.

    • @4G12

      Sean Donaldson
I think what's probably going on is that particular sealant has oil based solvents that act as rubber softeners to soften the rubber until it is relatively easy to remove. It's like using cooking oil to soften rat glue to release and save a toad accidentally stuck on it.

My question for you is what sealants have you found to be the best? Aside from ammo skin (which i'll be trying in the near future) ive been using meguiars m21 then topped with a wax, and have been quite pleased with it as i find it lasts about 6 months. Are there any others out there that last longer or provide a superior shine?

Fireroadie : He just did a similar video to that in his training course. Go to www.AMMONYC.com to check it out. If possible, get a canopy to work under. Other than that, make sure you use some form of deionized water (Just like distilled water) to keep from spotting. In fact, you don't have to dry it because it leaves no sediments, minerals or residue on vehicle when water evaporates.

Hey Larry love your videos. I feel like the reason the skin works in this particular case is ONLY because you have the skin on. What's a good way to get rid of bugs, rubber, and road resurfacing residue without abrasion?

  • @dan5087
    @dan5087 4 роки тому +3

Idk if it's really the "chemistry" I think it's more so, the heat changes it's state, and the skin acts as a lubricant for the friction your then apply to it.

    • @hardeepbhatti5338
      @hardeepbhatti5338 4 роки тому

It is the chemistry, think of how he didn’t use the heat gun on the Porsche due to the Paint Protection Film. The only thing acting upon the rubber was the sealant or “skin” as he states.

I️ used trakktape on my F80 M3 the last time I went to VIR and I️ noticed that it peeled off in the corners. Thanks!!

Awesome tip as always. My guess on the reason it works is that the rubber is stuck to the previous layer of Skin, and the solvent in the Skin softens the layer that the rubber is stuck to and allows it to slide right off.
Degreasers probably work the same way by softening the wax underneath the rubber and not actually affecting the rubber itself

A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and PB Blaster penetrating oil spray on the eraser work well to remove rubber, tar and bugs, after washing. Also if someone scrapes your paint and leaves some of their paint on yours. I know you’re selling your own Ammo products... But I just got back from a 2 day track event in my F80 and ‘snipered’ off my tire marks with Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover. It all came off ridiculously easy. I do have a clear bra across the whole nose of the car but even the areas with no clear bra cleaned up easily.
Also, you really should have used some Iron/Fallout Remover on the car. After all that braking on track it is all over the sides of the car.

Hi. Really enjoying your vids - wish you had an outlet/garage here in UK - i'd work for you in a heartbeat!
Question is, in the non clear vinyl wrap car, why did you need to heat up the black marble (tyre chunk) - when all you used for the vinyl wrapped car was your "Skin" product?
Surely that same methodology would work on normal painted cars no?

Will this work on rubber that's been on the car for a while? Bought a car that had rubber stuck to the area all around the rear tires.

@ammo NYC is there any reason you wouldnt just use something like turtle wax rubbing compound for getting the rubber off etc? I'm sure you have an answer. I'm new to this and learning.

I like you channel but, one thing that I haven't seen you wash is a large truck. I try to apply the same techniques that you use on cars but, I run into a problem with my truck (F250) where I can't reach a lot of the areas without using a brush. What would be your recommendation?

Always used Mothers R3 and it works amazing. I’m pretty sure it’s a degreaser though so I’m gonna try the Skin next time

I've used R3 for years as well, but like this idea better. Wonder if any other sealants can be used to the same effect?

Can you use a heat gun and sealant to help remove bug residue, as well?

Any tips for removing tar from normal roadworks? It's not the few tar droplets here and there, but the fine mist that's almost everywhere, including windscreen AND paint covered bodywork alike.

Hey man this is off topic of the video but I'm about to paint prep a '39 Ford. Atm it has a yellow paint job but with no clear coat. My question is what grit should I use for this job?

I had that problem a few months ago, Larry. I used a microfiber towel and spray wax. Came out just fine. No damage, except for the towel, which got tons of rubber crammed into the fibers...kkk

Im sure the Ammo Skin ads a layer of lubrication as you do this but I think it the rubber sticking to the microfiber that's key. I tried all sorts of things to remove rubber from my car after several days at the drag strip (softer rubber then road course so may be different) any chemical solution melted it and made a mess, the easiest was similar to this video where the rubber would ball up and get caught in the microfiber strands, unfortunately the cloths had to be thrown out after only one use though.

Try Nitto NT01 next time. Much better than R888. I'm tracking this weekend, so this video is perfect timing!

Is ammo skin a carnauba wax? If so i'm pretty sure carnauba has cleaning properties, which could aid in the rubber removal process

I live in Australia, it's coming to around summer time so it's most days around 95f, at most it's 122f - that's in the shade, put it in direct sunlight and the car heats up higher than that, now, my paint is a medium dark gray, like really gray and that absorbs the heat more, so yes... it can get near boiling point of water just on the surface quite easily.
If you live in a hot climate like AZ, I would suggest you switch to a more heat resistant coating to protect your paintwork as nobody likes the look of a sun bleached roof and hood, especially when you could protect it with just a weekly wash and wax with a paint inspection for deep scratches.

Using AMMO sealant (or liquid wax in general) works because the wax is hydrophobic like the tire rubber is. So the solvent that the wax is dissolved in probably dissolved the tire rubber in the same way. Same reason why I try to avoid getting wax on my tires when I wax my wheels.

WD 40 works pretty well too. I just tape the area off and spray the affected area...thanks for the video Larry.
