Life saver
I'm a vet student, i've learned so much of you. Really thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for this info. My 12 lb., 12 year old poodle got a small red grape I dropped and gobbled it down. I can not afford the emergency vet care and so far he seems normal. It's been over an hour. I will be with him for the next 4 days and watching carefully.
God bless you for your help and compassion for these precious animals and us people, too.
So, what happened to your dog?
Karen19820 is your dog fine now?
This vid is amazing, especially the comments your replying to is amazing and very helpful, my 8 month old puppy at 1 or 2 grapes last night. She is very healthy and hasn’t vomited or had diarrhoea after 17 hours and is being herself, it has been very helpful looking through the comments of people’s stories just like mine and your reply’s, it’s very reassuring 👍🙌🏽 Thankyou
Thanks Max

Thank You for continuously uploading such informative videos - It has helped me understand and be a better parent/owner to my furbaby :) Truly appreciate it!
You are welcome
Just got back from an emergency 11pm trip to the animal hospital to have them induce vomiting on my poor service dog after he ate a grape. Just here learning more about the science. I now know it was apomorphine the vet used (thanks for that info), he threw up everything and now he's home and had 3 small bowls of home made chicken broth over the last 1.5 hours. After watching your video I'm really glad I took him to the vet. Even though the chance of complication is small and it has certainly added a financial strain, I honestly don't know how to live without my dog- he is pretty much my life if I'm honest.
Glad to hear he's okay!
the dog is just chill

Veterinary Secrets hey I'm very scared can dogs have one grape or more to kill them in trying to figure it out?

Veterinary Secrets hi my boxers ate about more than 10 to 15 grapes.its been 15 hours n nothing has happen yet everything looks normal.but i freak out ! after i watchd this video .. So i sum they are going to b ok right?
MuStAnG Mach12004 Hey are your doggos ok.
I had German Shorthaired Pointers most of my life and still do. My first 2 both lived to be 15. We had vineyards and they would sit and eat fallen grapes daily by the many dozens when they were in season, all their lives. We did not use pesticides on our grapes. They also ate food with garlic, onions, cherries with the pit fallen from the tree in the yard by the dozen, and a host of other foods that have now surprisingly with the advent of the internet, become toxic. My dogs have all been long lived and energetic. What they never ate was commercialized dog food. I'm not a vet though, so only take my experience as a survey of having dogs to add to the unaffected list.
Thank you for all the info you provide!
+Barb Boudouris You are most welcome!
Omfg I had no clue that grapes r bad for dogs. He just ate like 20 grapes

Is your dog ok???
David R must have died because it’s been 8 months since she posted it
Please update me how did he turn out?
My dog also ate a lot of grapes, did your dog die? Please answer
@@francoiseuy1154 hey I can answer for you, what happened in my case was my dog had about 3 grapes and then I looked it up and started to freak out, my dog is over 50 pounds and is a pitbull breed, the size may play a factor you can also get him to throw up,if you can't get them to the vet I recommend monitoring him and looking up the symptoms and after two days if your dog is fine I wouldn't worry but if he does display the symptoms a vet may be the only choice, I wish you luck I wouldn't wish this scare on anyone
You are a life saver Our miniature schnauzer of 15 pounds are one single small organic red grape and we were worried. Used the hydrogen P and she was vomiting in minutes. That grape came out intact. We acted fast within 10 minutes. Now we can sleep.
easily explained and so helpful to us lay people; wondered why my dog cairn terrier was OK when I threw her a few grapes years ago. so grateful nothing happened then.
Thank you! Always wondered if there was something.
Great data and video!
Thanks
I appreciate how Dr Jones often says most dogs will not be harmed by eating grapes. My German Shepherd just died at 17 yrs-old - quite old for a GSD - after gobbling purple and white grapes which grow on my property all summer long for 12 years! My 3 yr-old Belgian Malinois is in tip-top athletic health, and he also loves snacking on the grapes every day once they ripen. It is worth noting I fed/feed both dogs a mostly raw muscle and organ meat diet. My very uneducated guess is that dogs whose health is compromised (by a poor diet or stress ?) might be more susceptible to reacting negatively to grape ingestion?
Hi- we still don't really know what causes it- and only a few dogs are affected
Congratulations on such a long life of 17 years for your GSD. One of mine is 15 and is showing no signs of slowing down yet. Perfect blood panel last month, still running and playng and jumping into my truck on her own. I'm hoping for several more good years with her.
@@VeterinarySecrets Doc...what about grape seed extract? I was told that is a great antioxidant and to be used on German Shepherd dogs as one of the suppliments recommended by Dr. Clemmons to slow the progression of Degenerative Mylopathy .
My dog once ate a whole bowl. She threw up a few times and that's it. She also ate a battery and was fine surprisingly.
Wow. what a tough dog you have!
Good info. Thanks Doc.🐾😍
My Cirneco dell’Etna just consumed one grape that had rolled under the refrigerator. I used your method to induce vomiting and it worked within 5 minutes. Out came the grape. I was super concerned because sighthounds have issues with toxicity as their livers are tiny. Thank you, Doc ! 👍🏽 - beth Blume
I'm glad it helped and that your dog is okay:)
Thanks for the information. My dog Mingo ate something off my moms house witch I didn’t know what it was I was worried it could have been onions, grape or chocolate. She said my 2 year old nephew was there earlier earthing grapes. So I immediately starting doing research and thank good I was able to make him trow up and found one grape. Now I feel more at ease. I’ll be keeping an eye on him for the next few hours and if I see any of the symptoms he’s going straight to the vets office. Thanks again
Hi all worried dog parents. My dog ate one grape recently and I turned to this video for answers. It’s now three days later and there have been no noticeable problems whatsoever. My dog is a rescued 75 pound black lab pit bull mix. I believe that he’s large enough that one grape didn’t have much of an impact on him, it was diluted enough by his body weight and dog treats/food I gave him right after. If your dog is like 15 pounds, then there’s probably more reason for concern if they get a hold of a few grapes!
My 7 month old puppy had a grape vine in his mouth (not sure if he ate any off it) I was panicking and immediately gave him lots of apple slices and water.. day later he seems completely fine no vomit or diarrhea but I’m scared because I’m confused and don’t even know if he actually ate one
Thanks for posting this… im a bit calmer after reading, my dog is half husky half GS she snatch my daughter’s cookie with 3 or 4 raisins. I just feed her a bowl of kibbles for her dinner. She seems fine. Monitoring closely
Thank you so much, you’re so kind.
Very informative! Thankyou very much!
Thanks
my mom left her purse on the ground which had a bag of grapes in it, and my tiny maltese ate all of them. over 10. he was rushed to the animal hospital, where they helped him throw up majority. he is currently being kept under supervision. they said if we didn’t bring him in as soon as we did, he would have died tomorrow. we still don’t know what’s going to happen. he seemed to be fine after eating, however they did say it may take time for him to show signs of kidney failure. just trying to stay positive. i’ll keep you guys updated.
Glad your dog got immediate attention. The usual symptoms show up around 3 hours after ingestion, depending on how the dog reacts. Better to keep it under observation.
Veterinary Secrets he got lucky and he pulled through! he came home last night :) he’s great for the most part, just having a stomach ache aswell as a bit of diarrhea with some blood, but they told us that would continue for awhile. he’s active though and eating just fine. i’m glad he’s okay.
How expensive was the vet visit
Great JOB! Thank you!
Thank you for the video! The best all around source if information I found on the subject. My 5 month old pug weighting in at about 7 pounds ate 5 grapes or so. I measured them at around 15 grams. It’s been a few hours after and he looks perfectly healthy so far. I’m monitoring closely and will hopefully remember to provide an update to this post.
Hope your pup's fine. Please bring your pup to the vet if you notice any of the symptoms.
Hey how did your puppy end up?
Thanks for clearing up the grape and raison issue. I have kept my dogs away from them for years, but remember when I was younger giving my Doberman grapes often, it was one of his favorites. After learning about the possible toxicity of grapes I always wondered how my Doberman ate them and didn't get sick. Great video thanks for sharing.

I went to the store to buy hydrogen peroxide after watching this video . After giving our dog 2 doses she was able to throw up the grapes . Thank you !!

My dogs ok! Thx for the help!
thanks SO much!!!!My 12 week old dog just ate grapes! He was just going crazy then he felt sleepy.
Welcome
My dad told me earlier today that he'd been feeding his dog Callie (Pomeranian) grapes. Apparently she hasn't had any in a few days, and to me she was just as hyper and happy as ever, so luckily it looks like the grapes didn't affect her. No more grapes for her! We had to put a dog to sleep about 10 years ago who was suffering from kidney failure (old age) and it was heartbreaking!
The severity on the reaction to grapes really varies. Glad she's okay!

I’m years late to this but my 5 month puppy ate 2 oatmeal raisin cookies. I induced vomiting within an hour and took her to the nearest vet hospital since it was Sunday & her regular vet was closed. They gave her IVs with a bunch of fluids & in an hour I’m taking her to her regular vet in an hour. I’m hoping that everything’s okay & she makes it

Thank you. My 90# Bouvier managed to eat a LOT of muscadines (wild grapes) Monday while I was picking them. He was eating them off the vines faster than I was picking with hands. Called poison control and induced vomiting. There were 55 grapes that came up! Thankfully he is ok and I did speak to my vet--have been watching my dog closely.
I didn't think about the possibility of him eating the muscadines--or grape poisoning--when I planted the muscadine vines on our fence. Now to bar access!

You're great! Thank you!
Happy to help!
I pray that more veterinarians and medical professionals start looking into the ties of fluoride in every thing we eat and drink especially unfiltered tap water ...I was not aware of this fact... Ironically everytime I get something that I enjoy to snack on being grapes... Geeze...I am glad that I didn't give my medical service dog any grapes... I do triple filter his water whether it be tap water and or Crystal Geyser bottled spring water here in south East Tennessee...
My mom fed my dog one grape at 10 pm, she told me once i got out of the shower, and i took my car and rushed my dog to a 24 hour vet. the vet made him throw up and said he should be fine now. bless that vet and his 24 hour clinic. i was really scared my dog was going to die.
Thomas Lung wow hat was overreacting ! One grape? I’m glad he survived that one grape

I've got a lab/husky mix and husky, both about the same size as your dog...my mom fed both one grape each. I'm concerned because this happened tonight and I dont have a 24 hr vet, is one grape lethal for a dog that size?

My 7 month old mini Golden-doodle which weighs around 30 pounds ate half of a grape after my dad accidentally fed her one. It’s late for us right now and we don’t have the recommended stuff as well as don’t know what to do. We can still induce vomiting since it’s recent but do you think it’s serious enough?
READ THIS, I fed my dog 7-8 seedless red grapes, and he was absolutely fine, he's a cockapoo 25-30 pound dog, I had an English springer spaniel before and he has also had grapes and been absolutely fine, like the doctor said SOME dogs will be absolutely fine, just monitor to see if the dog vomits within 1 - 3 hours and if so then proceed to go to the vet. Many thanks,

hello, my dog ate 2 grapes and she didn't vomit even I gave her hydrogen peroxide. 2 hours passed and still she was fine. I'm monitoring her till now.
So if dogs didn't vomit or have diarrhea, they will be ok?
Hello Doctor, my 3 months old beagle had around 5-6 grapes 2 months ago. Now he is 5 months old. He seems fine but appetite is too low , refuses most of the foods. Eats only few of his choice. I'm worried if the grapes he ate caused any harm to his kidneys or he is just a picky eater. Please let me know if grapes can cause chronic kidney problems or is it just acute. He was absolutely fine after eating those grapes.
My newfie setter ate 1 grape. He is 8 months and around 50 pounds. Would it be fine??
Didn't know that some dogs were susceptible to grape poisoning and have consistently been feeding ours grapes. Should we worry about long term affects? No negative reaction each time.
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for sharing! We have a 7 month standard poodle puppy who has gotten one grape before, But today he ate 6 when my toddler left them on the table! I was livid and terrified that we would have to spend thousands of dollars at the vet (not to mention loose our puppy), but I gave him the hydrogen peroxide mix and he threw up within about 5 minutes.. I think we might be done buying grapes lol
Hi, my 12lbs 14 week old puppy ate 1 small grape and we gave her peroxide but wouldn't vomit. After she took a long nap, she seems okay but now she is urinating a lot. I have a question. So I dropped cut grapes in the floor and I only found one half but the other half is still missing, if my dog finds the half would it hurt her?
Some dogs are sensitive to it. My fur baby is 4/5 years old she's half Rottweiler and half Alaskan husky she ate a couple grapes and she's fine she ate some before never vomit and honestly the only time she vomits is when she eats microwaved foods like chicken nuggets and etc. I always see her eat grass and I let her eat the grass it helps her with stomach problems she has she either poops it out or vomit it out. When she's dehydrated I give her Powerade or Gatorade or pedialyte after throwing up only if she refuse to drink her water.

HELLO ? MY DOG ate grapes about 2 hours ago and it is currently 3 am here, and there is no veterinary clinic open at the moment. I left him in my room for 15 minutes or so since he was sleeping, but when i came back the grape bowl was all over the place but it is not certain that he ate the grapes out of the bowl, he also peed a sufficient amount behind the door. He isn't showing any signs of vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy except continuing to sleep. I don't notice anything different happening to him ? Will he be okay ? We're planning to bring him to the vet asap when the clinic opens at 9 am. Should I wait until he vomits to be certain of grape ingestion or would that be too late ?
I assume all OK now

With all due respect, "What's wrong with your mother? " She gives your small dog
something that can potentially kill it and then refuses to take it to the vet ! Again, HOW OLD ARE YOU....CAN YOU DRIVE? DO YOU HAVE ANY MONEY OR A CHARGE CARD?
IT'S EITHER NOT YOUR DOG OR, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE AN ANIMAL IF YOU CAN'T EVEN TAKE CARE OF IT !!!!!
Poor animals always suffer because of people's stupidity.

my GSD ate A grape seed. any advice? please respond quickly.
My dog that is 3 months old ate two rasins yesterday I've been monitoring him he has not thrown up he has been eating and pooping regularly. Should I sill be concerned? Is there any way that if the rains are not passed that Kidney failure will still be an issue in the future?
Usually not
I gave my bog about 5 to 6 grapes on Friday; today I had to take him to the hospital for a check up.He was acting scared and was shaking, he wanted to hide under the bed I kept trying to get him out once that was done he kept trying to be held all the time. The veterinarian recommend 48hr in the hospital at a cost of over $2,000.00 dollars.
Is he OK now? They could at least check for kidney damage
Yes his okay they did two blood test and both came out okay, they wanted to keep him for two days, however, I only left him for one after the second blood test was negative. They wanted to do another blood test I don't know if it's necessary because it's been over 72 hrs (It was this past Friday)after he eat them. What do you recommend?
@@reinadeelsur dont get ripped off again.
@@irishman7scouse I don't believe I was reped off .It was a hospital and he was in treatment he was showing since that he was in trouble. I was fast in taking him to the vet but if I had waited or if he had had more grapes the story might be different.
My 3 month St Bernard eat 1 grape 7 hour ago..for now she is normal. Is she going to sick.. pls reply
I gave my dog a couple small raisins maybe 10 at most? He is a standard poodle and pretty heavy. Will he be ok?
Likely yes
Not sure if people will read this but my 10 week old lab ate 3 green grapes. about 5 minutes after that i bolted to the the store forgetting my wallet but had spare change in my car to buy hydrogen peroxide and a baby syringe. I was able to make her vomit about 30 minutes after consuming the grapes. It’s been almost exactly 24 hours since she ate the grapes. she’s running around fine. Her feces is just a little bit softer than usual. She’s peeing normal. If anyone wants updates just comment on here.
Any update??
