Without a day of bad weather we would never be happy about a day of good weather.
I can agree. 18 years of living misertably in MN, I take every sunny day here in AZ with happiness. xD
After growing up in England, I lived in Malaysia for 10 years and after 6 months, I got sick of the sun and enjoyed it when the rains came…a mindset unthinkable in England. Couldn’t believe I got sick of the sunshine everyday, but it is very humid too, so very sweaty. But still, shows how quickly we adapt to a ‘new normal’, I guess.
I lived in Phoenix for 6 months, it took 2 months to see a cloud, I went nuts
@@Dude0000 it sounds like the place for me , I grew up on the gulf coast south of mobile Alabama ,most days are sunny and the summer hot. Seven years ago I moved up to Indiana and its mostly cloudy , wet and cold and I miss the hot sun really ready to move back, but one thing I do see is I appreciate sunny days now so much more
It’s weird, I’m kind of partial to cloudy/rainy weather despite living in the Northeast US, which has pretty evenly split good/bad weather. I like colder weather much more than hot, mostly because it’s easier to deal with cold weather by bundling up, while it’s socially unacceptable to strip in hot weather, lol.

"Temperature is quite simply the measure of how hot the atmosphere is, measured in Celsius or Fahrenheit, depending on how you pronounce 'tomato'"
Canada: *confused screaming*
Cracked me up!
@Jov Ven alas, there’s water at the earths edge, the cat will have no part in that.
IIRC. The way to explain or define temperature is that it is merely a measure of difference in heat energy. At least there's an application where a difference in temp is part of an equation which relates to energy - too bad I can't remember wtf it was about, lol. But that's why we can select arbitrary units like celcius/centigrade, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin. I could make up my own and call it "warmness." Temperature according to Maxwell is the change in energy with respect to change in entropy of a constant volume.
😂😂😂
A little late me arriving, but I think it’s a play on countries who record temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. Probably how Americans (Fahrenheit) and the English (Celsius) pronounce ‘tomato’. You know: ‘tay-mate-o’ or too-mart-o’.
Wonderful!
I'm in my 50's and have a very strong science background, so what could I possibly learn from Thoughty2 about the Weather?
Moonbows, that's what!

Just remember that somewhere there's a turtle stuck upside down that's having a worse one.
why is your comment from 6 hours ago
For real, I just saw an animal programming on TV a few days ago with 2 male tortoises fighting for dominance. The dominant one knocks the other one on its shell where it will suffocate it as gravity puts pressure on its lungs and the extreme heat of the afternoon will also make it hard to breathe. It was the most savage tortoise fight I've seen.
It's cool, when my turtles get flipped over, I usually don't help them.... it's a sort way to check their health. If one of my sliders or lone tortoise can't right themselves, then it may be a sign that they need to see a vet.
That said, one time my tortoise Londo was stuck in an empty Chinese soup container with his legs sticking out the top. So he was probably in the state of mind that you describe.
Also, I'm not sure how some of the larger tortoises go about un-flipping themselves without help.

Here in northern UT, the summer mostly consists of clear to very lightly cloudy skies, very clear air unless California is on fire, and the brutal sun shining down upon the land with few trees. It’s nice to have clear brilliant blue skies but, I will say, I love overcast and rain.
The clouds keep the brutal sun from just baking everything, and rain cools things down in a pleasant manner (also keeps what trees we do have alive). As I was younger I very much preferred overcast and stormy days,m. As I’ve grown older, I’ve started to really appreciate the extremely vibrant blue sky and the open air, there is something energizing about the vast space of endless blue.
When I’m at work and it’s like so, super clear, I just want to go on an adventure in the hills. Could still use more storms tho, I really love cool rainy temps and it makes the air so much fresher here. Nothing quite like the smell of ozone in the air and a clean refreshing feel. Just had rain today, and it’s been a long while since we had it, so very refreshing and I can touch metal outside without suffering burns.

When we were kids, and typhoons would hit the island, we would be excited and pumped! But being grown and a parent, myself, now, I understand how badass my parents were!!! They were always sooo uncannily prepared for whatever may happen, and the base housing on Guam is just cinder blocks, so they’re built to withstand that shit like a straight G! We even experienced an 8.2 earthquake while living on Guam, and only one building on the entire island was felled. (From what I remember).
My Dad used to take us out into the eye of the typhoons, we would see people swimming to their now floating away vehicles, and taking pics and videos. I still love to watch one particular vhs recording of his little Toyota truck water logged af, driving through the jungle to get to his shop, and inspect the damages, after one of the biggest typhoons Guam had ever seen up to that point, Omar. The coconut trees would be totally uprooted, animals scurrying everywhere, debris all over. God, it was amazing! But I just cannot fathom the stress of being an adult and parent!!! My parents always had shit locked down and a fantastic plan for anything that could go wrong. We were sooooo lucky to have them! Going through all of that certainly prepared me for many recent events we’ve experienced here, in Texas! I would never have made it through and kept my Bears safe and fed and calm and occupied, if my Mom and Dad hadn’t been so rad and just bad ass, over all! Wherever they are, I hope they know how grateful I am to them. Mother Nature is sooo mysterious and amazing 🥰😎
As i was driving across the country both times I noticed alot of states at least where i drove trough had no stars at all especially California… i was so bright there at night that that on the weekend all night looked like the sun was about to come up the sky was either dark orange or lighter blue that you would think for night time .. i didnt see any stars until i was back in New Hampshire… on week days in California i did see some stars but they were countable … i thought taking the scenic route i would see a bunch but no .. up in the mountains in New Hampshire when i went camping one time i was amazed by the cloud like lights of the milky way or w.e it is and how yiu could see shooting star basically every night … i wish i could see that every day … doesn’t really have anything to do with the weather, but talking about the sky gets me thinking about the stars lol

I live in Cape Town South Africa and we have an old saying here. In Cape Town we have four seasons in one day. But there is another saying 'If the weather is strange and unseasonal there has been a natural disaster somewhere else in the world'. If our weather is strange I just have to check the internet and I can track the reason by looking into natural disasters somewhere else and it does not matter how far it is from our location. I think your butterfly effect explains this. We are however very fortunate so far here that nothing like the severity of the weather elsewhere globally due to climate change has visited us so far. Thank you Lord.
Loved the video, very interesting thoughty2. Canadian weather is a mix of everything and changes every 5 minutes and there is a saying here, if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes. Almost like a magic trick

I'm from the swamps of Louisiana. As a kid, living in New Orleans, we hunkered down for Betsy and Camille. Don't remember which one, but we were in the eye of one for almost two hours before the back half hit us. It was AWESOME (for my seven or eight year old self) watching that inner wall bearing down on us. As it got closer, I could see nearly whole trees and other debris flying by at ridiculous speeds. Dad finally made us get more to the center of the house as the second half hit. This was close to sixty years ago. I've survived maybe another half dozen, lesser hurricanes, but the pattern that used to funnel these storms into the Caribbean and up to N.O. is now aiming most of them up the east coast. I'd say that this is rather obviously because of climate change.

The actual verse is "a virgin needs to be impaled."
It's a hard f'ing job, but someone's gotta do it.
I hate sunny days and prefer rain, I don't go outside anyways so the sound of rain on the roof is more pleasant, and I dread summers for the few times I go outside it makes its miserably hot
I have yet to be in a hurricane that was like bad in New England in the time that I have lived here whenever there is a warning for a hurricane coming it is not at all that bad. There was only this one time when I was working for Amazon, where a branch from a tree that had already fallen down hit me in the leg because the wind was so strong that it picked it up and smacked me and I couldn’t open the door to the van because the wind was blowing so hard. It was pretty scary and my dispatch after telling them about this decided that I needed to finish my route before coming back even though the conditions were not good at all but as a kid, I used to play in hurricanes because we had a pothole in front of the house that was really big and it would fill up with water and it was like really fun to jump in it
I guess this is what happens when you tell him, “great weather we’re having, eh?”
I quit going outside in 2006 so quit paying attention to the weather. Unless it's taking out the power or ripping the roof off of my apartment I pretty much don't even notice it.
I'm from Medellin! Thanks for the beautiful words about our city
If anyone has ever used a high wattage vape mod around a shower or in a steam room, you'd know the condensation is so immense you can't even see further than one foot in front of you. Rain clouds are indeed analogous to "dirty water." This thick fog occurs even when the steam or humidity isn't visible; the vape particles still conglomerate and stick to the water molecules.

12:57 Small correction here as to how Chicago got it's nick name, "The Windy City".
Although today it is now called the windy city because it is.... well.... windy.
That is not how it all got started.
The origins of Chicago’s famous nickname are not entirely clear. The most obvious explanation is that it comes from the frigid breezes that blow off Lake Michigan and sweep through the city’s streets. However, another popular theory holds that it was coined in reference to Chicago’s bloviating residents and politicians, who were deemed to be “full of hot air.” Proponents of the “windbag” view usually cite an 1890 article by New York Sun newspaper editor Charles Dana. At the time, Chicago was competing with New York to host the 1893 World’s Fair (Chicago eventually won), and Dana is said to have cautioned his readers to ignore the “nonsensical claims of that windy city.” Dana is often credited with popularizing the “Windy City” moniker, yet according to David Wilton’s book “Word Myths: Debunking Linguistic Urban Legends,” researchers have never managed to find his original article. Many now dismiss it as a myth.
Even if Dana’s editorial does exist, it’s unlikely that either he or the World’s Fair debate were responsible for popularizing Chicago’s nickname. Etymologist Barry Popik, a longtime researcher of the Windy City question, has uncovered evidence that the name was already well established in print by the 1870s-several years before Dana. Popik also dug up references showing that it functioned as both a literal reference to Chicago’s windy weather and a metaphorical jab at its supposedly boastful citizenry. Many of the citations are found in newspapers from other Midwest cities, which were in a rivalry with Chicago over who was the region’s main metropolis. For example, an 1876 headline in the Cincinnati Enquirer used the phrase “That Windy City” in reference to a tornado that swept through Chicago. “The Cincinnati Enquirer’s use is clearly double-edged,” Popik told the Chicago Tribune in 2006. “They used the term for windy speakers who were full of wind, and there was a wind-storm in Chicago. It’s both at once.” Since Chicago had previously used its lake breezes to promote itself as a summertime vacation spot, Popik and others conclude that the “Windy City” name may have started as a reference to weather and then taken on a double meaning as the city’s profile rose in the late-19th century.
Interestingly, although Chicago may have gotten its nickname in part because of its fierce winds, it’s not the breeziest town in the United States. In fact, meteorological surveys have often rated the likes of Boston, New York and San Francisco as having higher average wind speeds.
Source: www.history.com/news/why-is-chicago-called-the-windy-city
In short, it is originated from politicians talking alotta B's, or "blowing wind"

Mare's Tails predict a change to poor weather and rain. This is totally true. If you see the Mare's Tail bunch up and 'fatten' you know wet weather is approaching. For many years the Humidity was measured using a piece of Horse Hair. The Hair becomes very curly when moistened and straight when dry. The hair was mounted to move a small needle against a tiny spring. And thus, the first Gauged Humidity Meters were invented. Horse Hair was typically used because it has a large change over it's full range and the hair had enough strength to pull against the spring in the gauge. It also lasted many years and remained consistent in its measurements.

"Everyone knows the phrase 'red sky at night, Shepherd's delight. Red sky in the morning, Shepherd's warning.'"
Me, an American: h u h ?
We British are obsessed with "The Weather" as we get all of the Atlantic weather fronts. However I'd no idea the adage or maxim was particularly British.
I don't get "turn on a dime" 😉🙂
I'm American, too.. but the version I grew up with was about sailors rather than shepherds.. same gist. But I was raised relatively speaking.. in farm country, so that makes a difference to folks who are dependent upon weather more than 'city' folk.
I’m the US we say Sailor instead of Shepherd.. I have lived in coastal states all life though, so maybe not in the “middle”?
Americans have the phrase, too. In America, we say . . .
'Red in the morning, sailors take warning. Red at night, sailors delight.'
Unless it is red in the morning and red at night. In that case, it means the Democrats won the White House and took back the Senate.
@@johnberry5275 😄 haha. very funny!
Mine was always
"Red Sky at night, shepherd's delight
Red Sky in the morning, shepherd's warning". Nowadays it's:
"Overcast morning, Chemtrailers warning
Overcast night, Chemtrailers delight'
I remember, in May 2020, there was this huge cyclone in India called Amphan. It was so powerful that it fell a 60 metre tall tree that had lived for almost 40 years, and our concrete houses were broken down easily. And winds reached a speed of 150 kmph ....
best presentation explaining weather i’ve ever heard. i usually find it so confusing. towards the end, i did get confused about some it - too much info at once :) but i’m keeping this so i can study it more slowly. you sure explained a lot of information so clearly and it was easier to comprehend. Thanks, Aaran :) 🌈🌤️ ⛈️ 🌬️⚡️❄️🌨️
More information in 22 minutes than in one whole year of geography focused on weather systems
Some of my friends do not feel confortable when I am being the smart guy.
That's why I don't have friends.
