I was 28 when I bought my first wing in 1975. I made my latest long ride Sept 2021 on my 1998 1500 wing. Still have a 75 also, just not the original one I had in 75. It was stolen in 1986, with the help of an X-wife. I’ll keep riding as long as I can.
How I ride my Goldwing everyday lol! People just don’t understand what the bike was designed for and capable of. One of the easiest bikes to ride, just be prepared to lift your feet off the pegs in the turns.
@@TheGamersRace foot pegs fold up, it’s unpleasant having your foot stuck between the two. You’d be too far over if hard parts are steering a 1500 pound bike two up.
Dad was a Goldwing rider. It was fun to watch him destroy sportbike riders. He wasn't beating the bikes. He was using his bike to max potential while most sportbike riders were barley scratching the potential of their bikes. Dad never left anything on the table with any bike he rode.
Great tune for this ride. Anyone remember Yellow Wolf down on the Dragon? His GW was set up with cameras to record you riding the Dragon, VERY few could lose him no matter what you were riding. Full Traxion suspension, same thing I'm running on my Wing, but I still can't ride it like YW did. Fun vid, thanks!👍
The torque, power and speed of a Wing is stellar in almost every category. So isn’t the comfort. Takes a little getting use to stopping, as it’s a heavy mother! Ridden and raced all kinds of bikes. I rented a brand new 1800 Goldwing when they first came out. 3k in four days with my girlfriend on the back. First night after a late start, Kings Canyon National Park. 7,000 feet up and 25 degrees with snow and ice all over the road. Didn’t really notice the shear drop offs in the pitch black. Probably hold the speed record with two up on 101 with a Ferrari chasing us. Was spinning the rear wheel while drifting two up. Very, very comfortable bike. On the other hand, I did 1,200 miles on a sport bike and that was probably the most painful riding day of my life. Anybody can do 1k in a day. Well, almost anybody who actually rides.
Reminds me of a promotional video I saw at a Yamaha dealership back in the 80's. It was press track-day and Kenny Roberts drove a Venture with Eddie Lawson as passenger. They showed the rear tire sliding through a turn as Kenny and Eddie went screaming by everything else out on the track.
At least in a straight line, modern Goldwings are way faster than one would think. If you get the version without the floor boards, they can really lean too

The new one, bagger, without rear sofa is amazing, way better than old ones.
Reminds me of watching vintage car racing in Europe where you can sometimes see a Galaxie 500 mixing it up with '60's British sports cars - some of those big girls can really put it down. That blue and silver wing had it going on!
Take it easy on the goldwing. It's sporty but it's still a monster that can drag bag pretty well depending on who's flying it! LOL I admit I haven't scraped the pegs yet. Don't really plan to either. I did on my Victory Sport Cruiser all the time, several times on the Rocket III, never on the BMW LT and not yet on the GL1500. Great video thanks!
Damn near dragging bag. I own a 2000 gl 1500 It's a hell of a blast to ride comfort of a touring bike with the handling of a sports bike. They are nimble for an eight hundred plus bike.
I saw a truck riding team of two goldwings and it was pretty impressive, they would do turns right next to each other where one was leaning over the other, these big bikes are actually really agile
I love my 18 GW bagger. Don't ride that aggressive on the road, don't think I would on the track either but I get around. My first Honda was a 77 XL 100. Motorcycles are awesome.

Imagine the new one, 25 more hp, 90 kilos lighter, much better suspension, sportier. The new bagger is the bomb.
I raced at Charlotte in 1975 on an RD350 and remember a GoldWing set up to road race. I wish I had paid attention and taken pictures. I have a 75 Wing now and it would be a ball to ride on a track like this.
That graceful wallow diving into the corners would have been much more exciting with the old GL1200s. Honda engineered out some of the death wobble tendencies of the old wings by bolting on a giant chunk of iron to the front forks under the fairing where the headlight would go. Glad to see that they're making the new Wings handle a bit better with no extra chunks of iron bolted on.
Most people don’t realize the Wing was designed to compete with KZ900 as a performance bike. It’s layout had the characteristics of a great touring bike, the rest is history.
It's the rider, not the bike. I got passed on hwy 96 in Nor Cal on an endurance rally by a wing around 10 or 11 pm. He had enough lights to see and I didn't. Around 3 or 4 am on hwy 20 coming east from a Fort Bragg check point I was passed by another wing. Same deal, more light so he could see better. Second guy was well known in the rally world. Wish I could remember his name
Trust me when I bought my gold ring I had no idea it would move the way it does. I cannot believe I nearly flipped it the first time I ever rode it. These bikes they are crazy Powerful.
Very cool and impressive. Imagine listening to your favorite music in comfort with air conditioning... while hitting the track. I think we’re all doing something wrong... The fastest Goldwing rider I’ve ever seen is the “famous” guy who rides the Dragon-Deal’s Gap. He humbles most of the street-only sportbike riders. Very skilled.
Goldwings are big motorcycles with big engine, some are as big as my 2.0 liter Skoda and one is a car with 4 wheels that weights almost a literal ton and the other one is a 300-350 (I guess) motorcycle. Power to weight ratio makes it really fast for something with that big of an engine. Its like driving a car with 2 wheels!
I have raced against a couple of goldwings with a 05 cbr 600rr in button Willow and could never get around them, they took up the entire apex and out of the hole my 600 didn't have the torque to get around
I got in behind a Goldwing on a road I know like the back of my hand (US 321) East Tennessee and I bet you his slowest speed on that road 75 in a curve lol it was very impressive.
@wingr66 those arent actual lights they are just covered with tape or some type of ahesive. you are required to cover all headlights and taillights incase of a wreck you dont want plastic or glass everywhere on the track.
Stick with what you know. For starters, calling US129 S between the wall and the store, just across the NC state line, "the dragon" makes you look and sound like an idiot.
This is probably a 2003 all aluminum frame for one year it's 45 lighter than all the other years dry was 790 lbs and it's top speed is faster than the all new wing this one is not speed limited
You really shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about. Everything you said was wrong. From 2001 thru 2017 all had Aluminum frames and were unchanged that entire time other that accessories. All Goldwings in that period were just under 900 lbs. With the Airbag model at 920.

They are sport touring bikes, with plenty of power. The weight keeps you planted even in the turns. My dad just got one and at first youre like whoa but after like an hour of riding you're getting into those turns. First two gears are super low too, so accelerating is surprisingly quick!
@@TheGamersRace Yeah, I saw a review video that showed the guy getting like 3.5-second 0-60s with the new DCT non-tour model.
