Honestly, I'd never even heard of this song until I saw it on your Worst Songs list. And then it somehow kept climbing the charts after that. And the thing about her releasing different versions of the same song, that sounds like something one-hit wonder acts do when they just want to capitalize on their biggest hit rather than making other stuff (namely ones like Tag Team, who released multiple versions of WHOOMP There It Is with everyone from Disney and the Addams Family, and Lou Bega, who also made a Disney-fied version of Mambo No. 5 and even Weird Al'd his big hit on the soundtrack to Stuart Little). At this point, I'm just wondering if Todd in the Shadows will end up doing a solo review on it, since he said it only made honorable mentions on his Worst Songs list due to it only being a hit at the tail end of last year. He certainly would have enough material to talk about in a full review now!
Anybody else notice that after Tickets to My Downfall and Sour, this type of music started to get airtime? I can’t stand this type of music. It sounds phoned in and uninspiring yet it’s hyped up around the alternative/punk scene to no end.
That's exactly how I feel dude I'm so over this ingenunuine, fake ass interpretation of alternative/ pop punk that's been happening these last few years.
It kinda is like a kid we wanted, but it turned out to be a bratty Idiot Kid. It has potential but every song in this sub genre(???) sounds the same and yet everyone is acting like it is so special
As someone who is about a decade into loving metalcore and death metal, I totally get it. Like 2 or 3 years ago when all the "emo rappers" that just did terrible harsh vocals over trap beats came around I felt the exact same way
In the UK, the song that's following me everywhere I go is Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender. And that's actually a pretty good song, definitely one of the better songs on the album but it's been ruined by excessive overplay. Which does make sense given it's a song in the indie rock sphere that crossed over to the mainstream charts, peaking at #3 partially thanks to TikTok and how "I was far too scared to hit him, but I'd hit him in a heartbeat now" basically replaced "I crumble completely when you cry" as the #1 most powerful lyric for indie girls.
Gayle's "abcdefu" and Owl City's "All My Friends" shake hands to form "Creating chill alternate versions of songs that work far better than the original."
Glad you aren’t a fan of this one either, I keep hearing little parts of it all the time, and I don’t even use tik tok, not my thing. I hate the song . It’s so so cheesy.
This is like Nine Inch Nails going over and over and over on the stuff they did for The Downward Spiral... but without the passion or creative imagination. Gotta love these people making one song that somehow becomes popular... then making endless versions of it to milk it as hard as humanly possible. Leave those teats alone. You're actually gonna tear them off.
This song is always in spotify's ads, you even have to be lucky to it not being played TWICE. Btw i'm on my knees for you listening to all the versions of this tragedy lol
this song is the most creatively bankrupt rock-influenced song ive heard from the pop side in a while. gayle’s under atlantic- she is literally just a plant to capitalize on the success of olivia rodrigo.
The Royal & the Serpent verse sounds exactly like that health inspector guy in Bob's Burgers who extorts Bob into letting him play at the restaurant. "I'm good at sex, you're bad at sex."
I hadn't even heard of this song until I saw it on Jon's Top 25 worst songs of 2021 list. A few weeks later, some girls sang it at karaoke night at the pub I frequent after work. I'm seriously embarrassed to be a part of this generation
When I released my first album, the time between recording the demo and final version of one of the songs was about 10 years. By that time, I obviously had some hindsight, and the feel of the two versions was so different, I included both on the album. And when it came down to it, most people preferred the demo. Huh.
Aww she’s cute tho, I saw her open for MCR in dublin and she literally apologised before playing the song and kinda laughed awkwardly. I felt so bad for her.
You know you're at a loss for creativity when you have to basically cover your own song a whole bunch of times just to milk every last drop out of it. TikTok is putting a lot of talented nobodies on the map that never would’ve gotten the same level of exposure otherwise.
