EXACTLYYYY! I end up doing more damage when my hair is curly. And I do my best to manage heat damage and my hair responds well to my routine. I think it’s all about finding what works for you👌🏽 thanks so much for watching 🖤
You're so underrated, why is this not the first video that comes up when I search "straightening natural hair"? This and your last year's video on growing hair is literally my new bible lol. New subscriber, please keep doing videos!
True. I jumped on the weekly wash train and now I believe the frequent manipulation has thinned my hair out so bad after years of doing this. I noticed the people with the best hair wash 1-2 times per month. There's definitely something to it.
I grew my hair from a bob to hip length in 2 years and my two tips are DO NOT COMB OR BRUSH MY HAIR WHEN WET. like not at all, i let it air dry for about 30 minutes and then detangle. 2nd Just leaving it alone. Whether it be leaving it in a protective style or just dont touch up that often (instead just do any heartless styles if its looking crappy)
Thanks for the tips! I started washing mine way more and I noticed it’s gotten dryer and stopped growing. Definitely going back to once every two weeks!
I noticed my hair grew the most when I left it dirty for like a good 2 months. 😂 Now I’m experimenting and washing every week, because my scalp gets really itchy, I find washing every week helps. But I also wanna try that not washing it for months again.
Same with the washing. My hair started growing when I stopped washing every two weeks. I'm at bra strap length now. You need water and dirt for growth 😂 and I have the same dryer, love it
Yes same. My hair was getting shorter when I started washing once a week so I stopped and decided to push it and see when my hair was actually unclean to clean it. Now I wash every 3 weeks and lately 4 and I’m retaining length (finally past armpit and it’s getting longer)
When you said “this whole thing with the dryer in one hand and the brush in another” girl i felt that 😅😅😅 i just want blowing my hair out to be easier!
My plan is to wash and heat style every 4-6 weeks and get regular trims every 3 months. Also I love coconut oil for moisturizing my hair! I also want to get it cut to shoulder length so my ends will be healthier
few questions :) 1: how long have you been a straight hair natural? 2: do you still have a defined curl pattern when you wash your hair? your hair is beautiful btw
Since about 2013 and some areas are damaged but my curls are still there over all. You can see them in hair wash routine video or my braidout video! Thanks so much for watching 🖤🖤
I'm surprised you don't have that many subs. I'd always follow a very beautiful girl. Hope you have a great day and keep moving forward with your goals.
last summer I used to straighten my hair every single day because I never liked my natural hair and it was so damaged and then when I went back to school, of course, I had it straightened and then I realized that everyone looked the same, like straight hair and all that stuff, and also I looked like that and then I also realized how damaged it was and now i'm starting to like my natural hair and I don't straighten it anymore.
That’s great!! 🙌🏽👏🏽 im so happy you are now loving your natural hair texture! It’s all about finding what works for you, not about what anyone else thinks! I’m sure your natural hair is beautiful anyway🖤🖤
I have been natural my entire life, and because my curls are veeeeery fine, my family never tried to relax my hair like they did with my cousins. But I still flat ironed my hair during highschool years, definitely did a lot of damage because I flat ironed my wet hair! Years after I stopped and kept it completely natural for years. I also never cut the heat damage and my curls came back eventually. Anyway while I like the curls I have to wet my hair a bit daily and re apply product (either leave in or gel) because my hair absorbs all the products. If I dont I get frizzy. So I have to manipulate my hair every morning. Then have to wash once a week because of the amount of products i have to use daily. When I straighten my hair, it only takes time on wash day but after that I can go a week and a half to two weeks without washing it, and dont have to get my hair wet in the morning. And the only products I have to reapply are my oils or serums. Don't have to manipulate my hair much at all. So yeah definitely much more gentle! I wrap my hair at night, or sleep on a low bun and put on a silk or satin cap. I have decided that, if done correctly, I can heat style and retain my length! Plus olaplex helps me too xd
I’m stuck between choosing to blow dry my loose curls once a week, using quality products ex kerastase, just skip all curly steps. Or buy a range for loose curls and try to jeep it natural. I just don’t find myself looking that fresh while having my natural hair…
Omg coconut oil will cook your scalp! If you have but allergies, do a spot test. A lot of people who have scalp issues have a coconut oil allergy, it's in everything, even dandruff shampoo
My hair grows faster the more often I semi wash it. Shampoo only to get products and dirt out and use a light conditioner or protein conditioner when I decide to wet it especially in the hot months when my scalp will be steaming. I'm Caribbean and gets headaches and migraines almost everyday from June to August so I need the thorough cool down. And I can't moisturize too well cause it gets in my pores and causes breakouts which I hate that only started last year I rarely broke out in my teens and I'm breaking out more in my 30's 😢
Washing your hair less if you are using heat makes sense, because the heat will kill your hair. For me, I wash one a week because I wear wash n gos and I don’t want my hair to tangle up. My ends only need trimming every 6 months, because I don’t use heat and my ends are never tangled.
I feel the same way about the dryer. I use the same one and it’s so inexpensive. It helps keep my hair tame in the process too . I just can’t use the nozzles😫😫.
It gets the job done great 🙌🏽 I’ve actually been using dryer and brush lately and getting better at it. But I mostly air dry so I do it for like 5 mins but we’ll get there one day 🤣
Hi Dominique! Thanks so much 🖤 I really appreciate it! Omg I can’t even tell you when I last got it trimmed. I usually do tiny trims myself at home. Recently I went to a salon and they did a technique called “dusting” do get rid of some split ends but I’ve finally decided a little trim next time I go 🤞🏽
Girl you are a genius! I use coconut oil so much, yet i never tried it on my hair :o I have exactly the same problem, curly hair ...*sigh* my hair ends are so dry and i guess damaged as well and they don't pass that certain lenght...although i tried to not blow dry it nor straighten it for few years now, so idk why this is happening. I'm just leaving it as it is and use some products to style it...nor do i wash it that much cuz they are dry as hell , they can be like this over a week or more and no one could even tell..i guess that too dry hair plus the friction on t-shirt breaks the ends too.. Damn I'm alrdy excited to try your tips OMG! I agree with those comments bellow your vids should be way up higher took me few clicks to get here but glad I'm here ❤
Thid was really helpful!! Do you use any kind of dry shampoo? Do you oil your scalp or remoisturize your hair? Willl love to see a straight hair routine xx
You’re so welcome! Thanks so much 🙌🏽🤗🖤 I’m the worst lol I never get trims. I occasion give myself a tiny on at home butCan’t remember the last time I did.
Not sure on keeps your hair straight while working out but to avoid heat damage I did mention some things I do I’m the video to limit heat. Hope it helps 🖤
I know it is a old video but wtv 😅 I have been the same lenght for a decade lol I swear (4c type). I heard coconut 🥥 oil makes your scalp dry so I always been scared to try but I will give it a go. My hair get tangled up really easily and they are really dry (painful to comb or brush) 😭 so I can’t leave without relaxing them (only twice a year tho). Anyways... Great vid, really informative 👌🏾Learned a few things about stuff I shouldn’t do🤦🏾♀️ Now lemme see if I can get the Coralenght 🤣
That’s ok I still read the comments! Yes I’ve heard that as well but I’ve never had any issue with it myself. If you have a sensitive scalp just try applying only to the length and ends of your hair to help get those knots out. Loool love it #corallenght. Thank so much for watching 🖤🖤
I also have 4c type hair and found that it grew past my shoulders when I started going to a Dominican salon every 2 weeks for deep conditioning and roller sets. The only heat used was to blow out my new growth. I wouldn’t use heat in between salon visits and would relax my hAir every 3 months.
Nyeema Johnson Last time I went to a dominican salon I had the worst time ever. Came in the morning and the hairdresser had the whole city doing their hair while I was waiting for my hair to be done. Unfortunately I don’t know many dominican salon in my city, I will have to go outside to find a good one.
Be careful not washing your hair enough. I thought I was doing my hair good by trying not to wash my hair too often. Well! There’s a happy balance. I ended up getting folliculitis. Bacteria can cause infections. Would you go that long without taking a bath? Your scalp still gets dirty just like your skin gets exposed to sweat, dirt , toxins, pollution and bacteria ! Also the older you get you don’t have skin cell turn over as fast. Just as you exfoliate your face...exfoliate your scalp with a good scalp exfoliator. My scalp started to get scaly and flaky the older I got. The scalp scrubs eliminated that. Just remember to keep your scalp healthy as well as your hair
Hi Sherri! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience 🤗 sorry that happened to you! You make a good point and it’s something that I didn’t mention in the video but yes I do try and assess the state of my scalp and take care of that and do use a product to exfoliate once in a while. My goal in the video was to suggest to people that wash their hair very often that it may not be necessary. Like I said from my experience I was washing my hair once a week and that turned out to be too much for my hair and scalp
Yeah but were you using a ton of products? Were you cowashing? People think rubbing conditioner on their scalp is cleaning it. Did you start with scalp issues? I feel like there's more to this story. When I was a child every black person I knew washed 1-2 times per month (sometimes longer) and no one got folliculitis. We also weren't stacking 5 different products on our heads and none of this cowashing business, both of which are damaging to the scalp.
@@cfoster6804 -no I wasn’t co- washing. No- I wasn’t using tons of products. Sorry that “ you” feel there’s more to the story....but there’s not. Take it or leave it.
I've been thinking about wearing my hair straight more often because I'm loving the results. What I've been doing is letting my hair air-dry then blow dry like you do then flat iron. My hair last pretty long but if I need a tough up, ill just flat iron gently some pieces on Sunday for the week. Do you think uts too much to touch up once a week to freshen it up? I can probably get away with just doing the blow dry wash day once a month.
Great! I’m glad you’re loving your results🙌🏽 it all depends what works for your hair and if you’re prepared for any negative effects it could have on your curls/hair. I personally don’t touch up regularly only if I really need to which doesn’t happen often and sometimes between washes I want curls so I add those in. I try not to do more heat than that
Another youtuber who uses science of growing hair says we must wash hair frequently to make the scalp breath ... lol... I guess we are all diferent just do what makes your hair feels good ...bcz like coconut oil, it is a poison to my hair , I can't stand it even a little , I didnt know this so I damaged my hair for yrs, I couldn't figure out what was it, I changed shampoos, conditioners...after yrs I came across someone complaining that coconut oil dries her hair.., she really helped me just by hearing this! I stopped using coconut oil and my hair slowly came back to life
My hair has been in shoulder length for a year and half ..i wash it once a week (cuz my hair is already too dry and it doesn't really get oily so i don't have to wash often) and i tried to blow dry it once a week too but it didn't work cuz again my hair is super dry and curly and if i don't blow dry it it would be all over the place 😢 ....i tried the coconut oil also made my hair feel more dry so i sweitched to other oils. ANYWAY i just wanted to say thag i tried everything but my hair still isn't growing and it making me feel so disappointed and frustrated 💔💔😮💨🥺
Tell me about it!! But I’ve even gotten it from other black girls. This one girl I was meeting for the first time shoved both hands up my hair to feel for tracks 😳
Hi, thank you for your tips I have afro/curly/frizzy hair but Before I use to wash 10 days but now I workout 5-7 days and it’s a mess what do you recommend?
Hi Felissa! You are so welcome! Thanks so much for watching 🖤 I totally relate to that. When I work out sweat reverts my hair and just makes oil build quicker. I try to extend it by using dry shampoo and when I workout I try to sleek my hair down to keep it flat & prevent the sweat from going beyond my roots. Otherwise I would recommend doing more protective styles. Hope that helps 🖤
So would you use coconut oil every night and then just wash it out with water? Or would you shampoo it every day in the very beginning? I'm going to try just rinsing it with water but I feel like my hair will be so oily. Thanks for the tips.... you're gorge!
Hi Nicole!! So I use it the night before I wash it only. Rinse with water for a while and then follow up with my regular wash routine so several shampoos and condition etc. you do want to do a good job at rinsing. I’ve had some fails where my hair is oily and weighed down when I style it when I haven’t rinsed it out all the way. Hope that helps! Thank you so much 🫶🏽
Hi Corinne! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! I couldn’t say an exact number but it’s not very much unless my hair is tangled. When I do another hair video and it’s relevant I’ll try to show the breakage if that helps.
@@CoraliesCloset Sure! I straighten my natural hair once a month and get no more than 4,5 strands of breakage. If you could maybe observe the strands in a 1-3 days combing session that would help :-)
Uhh I wash my hair everyday and if not every other day. Not cuz I want to but I have volleyball practice everyday and get really sweaty I also use the revlon almost every 2 days Bc I hate my natural hair I’ve tried everything but it puffs up and my curls are frizzy
Try the natural shampoo bar from 22nd century natural hair woman. It's gentle enough to use daily and you can clarify every now and then if you feel buildup
Do you use dry shampoo?! I have the same hair type and whenever I straighten my hair I use dry shampoo after like 5 days but I feel like it's damaging my hair ughhh
Just today I noticed after straightening that my hair have short and erected strands in certain sections and I freaked out It was breakage and my first time experience with it I couldn't make a puff and that's all what I can use as a dude 😭 I wash my hair every Friday and straighten it just once a weak Even then my hair got damaged I'm so worried like I have uneven hair and it just looks so ugly 😭 What should I do! I loved ur advise tho I'll try acting on it meanwhile
Try straightening less often than once a week. If you have to wash do the following with a protective style. Don’t manipulate you hair too much and make sure when you’re styling you aren’t making things too tight and too often
Curious, is your hair naturally curly and if so do you use perm or just a flat iron? My daughter gets keratin to help loosen her curls, so trying to figure what’s the healthiest option with regards to that. Thanks! Your hair is beautiful
Hii! My hair is naturally curly and I fat iron it to get this look. I’ve never looked into keratin so I’m not sure what’s the healthiest but I like straighten…it’s not permanent and I can go back to my curls when I want. Thank you ☺️
I did a perm multiple times during my childhood and it damaged my hair so bad that it would literally stink every time a drop of water would touch it and it would take days to naturally dry it. While flat ironing damaged only my roots.
I’m not sure what kind of results other hair types would get since I’m just speaking from experience but I think the tips I shared like using less heat and just being more attentive and caring for your hair can only improve it 🤗 if you give it a try definitely let us know and we can share with more 4c queeeens!!
Washing my hair and flat ironing it only once a month really made it grow so much, I stand by this tip
ong I have thought this so much and finally someone can confirm that
Dude, me too .....and What else are you doing to your hair for the other 3 weeks?
@@nicolehumble8526 wearing it down, wearing a bun mostly but sometimes a ponytail
I wish I could do that. I would break out in acne and excess buildup.
And how do you prevent it from smelling?
I know heat is bad for your but when my hair is curly I have to manipulate it so much more but when it is straight I barely have to do anything
EXACTLYYYY! I end up doing more damage when my hair is curly. And I do my best to manage heat damage and my hair responds well to my routine. I think it’s all about finding what works for you👌🏽 thanks so much for watching 🖤
RIGHT!!!
Yes! That is exactly why I retain more when I keep it straight.
Same it’s to much when it’s curly styling it and detangling. Straight and it’s hassle free for a week to a week and a half in winter.

Hey! Before I start your really pretty. Also is your hair naturally straight or is it curly and you just straighten it.
Hi! Thanks so much ☺️. It’s naturally curly and I straighten it. Video on that coming next weekend
Nice n thanks for your tips 😊😊😊
You’re so welcome! Thank you so much for watching 🖤🖤
😊
How long did it take for you to get from shoulder length to now ❤️
I’d say around 2-3 years. It’s a process! Thanks for watching 🖤🖤
Coralie's Closet thankyou 😊
I try not to do more heat than that
@@CoraliesCloset Thanks so much for the info!
I wash my hair every 2-3 weeks as well
Yessss 🙌🏽🙌🏽 best think I decided to do!!
What is your curl pattern like?
😂😂😂 I wrap my hair the exact same way❤️
Easier and quickest way right 🙌🏽🙌🏽 thanks for watching!
I stopped using coconut oil and my hair slowly came back to life
Definitely agree that everyone isn’t. “One size fits all” , I’m all about doing what works for you 🙌🏽
Any tips for dandruff? When I keep my hair straight for a month get dandruff 😅
I love your lip coor what color lipstick are you wearing and what brand is it?
Its the NYX soft matte lip cream in Berlin!
Mine is the same. I can go long time before it gets oily.
Super racist to assume a black girls hair is fake..
Tell me about it!! But I’ve even gotten it from other black girls. This one girl I was meeting for the first time shoved both hands up my hair to feel for tracks 😳
@@CoraliesCloset wow that’s disgusting people have no home training
Yup. Let’s hope she’s learnt 🤞🏽
Racist? We have our own black people who tend to boldly make the assumption, so what do you call them?
also racist. You can be racist against your owwn race.@@Dirtnap1986
Thank you so much 🫶🏽
@@CoraliesCloset thanks so much for your response! So we're you shampooing it every morning in the beginning?
What if you can’t even wait two weeks? I go to the gym frequently and by the 4th day my hair needs washed.
Any tips on how to get to 2 weeks?
Will dry shampoo work?
@@paigemahaley3469 I’ve tried that also. My hair still gets really oily :/
Use dry shampoo
I wash on a Monday than Friday , what kind of coconut oil you use ???
Hi Coralie! I subbed to your channel and wanted to ask how many strands of breakage do you notice or usually get whenever you comb or brush?
How Often Do You Trim Ends?
Uhh I wash my hair everyday and if not every other day. Not cuz I want to but I have volleyball practice everyday and get really sweaty I also use the revlon almost every 2 days Bc I hate my natural hair I’ve tried everything but it puffs up and my curls are frizzy
Try the natural shampoo bar from 22nd century natural hair woman. It's gentle enough to use daily and you can clarify every now and then if you feel buildup
@@AmandaD33 thank youu
Do you use dry shampoo?! I have the same hair type and whenever I straighten my hair I use dry shampoo after like 5 days but I feel like it's damaging my hair ughhh
Just today I noticed after straightening that my hair have short and erected strands in certain sections and I freaked out
It was breakage and my first time experience with it
I couldn't make a puff and that's all what I can use as a dude 😭
I wash my hair every Friday and straighten it just once a weak
Even then my hair got damaged
I'm so worried like I have uneven hair and it just looks so ugly 😭
What should I do!
I loved ur advise tho
I'll try acting on it meanwhile
Do you think these tips will work for type 4c haired girls like me? Thank you!
I’m not sure what kind of results other hair types would get since I’m just speaking from experience but I think the tips I shared like using less heat and just being more attentive and caring for your hair can only improve it 🤗 if you give it a try definitely let us know and we can share with more 4c queeeens!!
You have nice and beautiful hair, how long have you been growing your hair
How often do you straighten your hair??
Every 2 or 3 weeks usually
You hair does not revert when you workout or with humidity?
