To make a long story short,all these are demons who wants to eat the monk Tang ceng because his felsh has magical properties and can give eternal life, however the monk himself is weak, thus Buddha assigned Wukong with the task of protecting the monk during the journey to the west along with two others. most of the demons in the story are animals spirits in human form, spiders foxes etc.
I think I saw this same story represented in an old Kung Fu flick
But doesn’t Buddha and wukong not like each other?? I know a bit of Chinese myth.. and those two are not always friends and wukong is not a good guy
@@collinc9835 Wukong is a troublemaker. And the relationship between Sun Wukong and Tang Zeng are that of student and teacher. In Chinese it’s referred to as Shi fu and tu di.
@@collinc9835 Yep, Wukong attacked the heaven and was caught by Buddha. Buddha then sealed Wukong under a mountain for 500 years until monk Tang Seng came. Wukong offered to help the monk in exchange for him to unleash the seal, Buddha then put a lock on Wukong after that so Wukong won't betray the monk.

*SPOILER Ahead + BACKGROUND Story:
The developer has told that they are gonna change the original story to create another version of Journey to the West (that happens after the ending of novel). This particular clip is telling us the story between 2 important characters in the novel: Zhu Bajie (Male) who is one of the 3 companions like Wukong for their monk teacher to protect him along the journey to west, while the 2nd important character here is ChangEr, which is the old lady presented in this video.
*Original Background Story:
In the original story, Zhu Bajie was originally a god in heaven but broke the rules by falling in love with a fairy goddess, ChangEr. Not only falling in love with her, he even accidentally caused a chaos in heaven while persuing his love and to get attention from ChangEr. Sadly, he only found that ChangEr has no interest with him and because of the mess he created, he is being punished to the Earth to experience unlimited torturing life reincarnations that caused by his love for others, which is one of the most suffering causes - Betrayed by Love. In one of his reincarnations, he became a half Pig half Man who falls in love with a girl. Of course you would see the ending of this one-way-love isn't gonna end well but he is eventually saved by his Monk Teacher and promise to help the Monk Teacher by joining him to the journey to the west, while helping and learning the way of life in the journey.
*Game Story:
The developer rethinks how the story may goes with the original story. What if.... ChangEr is actually in love with him as well, while breaking the rules of heaven together back then? Of course they made some adjustments in the original legend as well.
In this story, ChangEr is also punished by the Gods of Heaven, and she is turned into a Spider Demon. Why a spider demon you may ask...For those who are well versed with Ancient Chinese Legends, there was a group of fairies which we normally call The Seven Fairies who are the Goddess of Weaving (An interesting fact why the Spider Demon sisters are normally came with 7 person even in the original story). There was a saying that one of the Seven Fairies is actually ChangEr. Note that this is a punishment for the love that is prohibited in Heaven among gods, the punishment by heaven usually comes in an irony way. Previously, ChangEr was one of the Goddess of Weaving in the form of Silk Moth (A bug that produces silk by sacrifing itself) with the spirit of scarificing herself to help people, but now, she has became a Spider Demon who weaves only to kill, not for love. How sad and irony is this punishment... Not only that, remember that Female Spider will eat the Male after the intercourse...Along the reincarnation of Zhu Bajie, both of them met in this life, but became enemies, since one is protecting his Monk Teacher while the other side is trying to eat the Monk Teacher. Because of their positions in this life, it looks like the god is still punishing both of them in this life in the crueliest way possible...
But in this particular clip, the developer is showing the idea that when the Journey to West ends, ChangEr is still waiting for him despite after so many years...Is the groom here Zhu Bajie? Not exactly. It's actually Wukong changes its form into Zhu Bajie, and pretends to get caught by the daughters of ChangEr to have a chance to slip in this place as he has something important to get from here (no more spoiler for you). Of course, if you watch this clip again, you would see that the Elder Daughter and 2nd Daughter actually knew it's Wukong while the others not, but they still let him continues as they know how suffering is their mother all these years, and hope to give their mother a chance to marry the guy she loves along these years... Well.. sad to say that in this game story dimension, it's very likely that both Zhu Bajie and especially ChangEr, would still undergo the suffering again by not being together.
There are actually a lot messages and easter eggs inside this clip, but the English translation here is so bad, it's like totally a different script with the original Mandarin one. If you know how many ancient stories reference as well as real life structures the developer is using in this clip, you would be amazed. Also for the song that being played in this video, some of the lyrics are actually written with the ancient chinese books reference that is hinting us this is a story between Zhu Bajie & ChangEr instead of Wukong. And if you look closely in the Spider Monster in the end, you can see there's a Moth at the back of Spider. Why? It's because this is a hint for audience as Moth in Mandarin is the "Er" in "ChangEr". This is why I wanted to write this comment so bad so all people from anywhere in the world could understand that it's so much more than just a good graphic game. Rewatch this video after reading this, you would have a whole new experience! Peace!

It is literally comprised of hundreds of different cultures all with their own uniqueness - whether it be language (unintelligible from one another) or foods, or other customs. It's not one homogenised culture. You will find the country is full of different cultures. I believe it's the same thing in India.

When there were opponent, no matter it was disaster or real enemy, people of nearly 60 different races can union tight and fast.(More than 97％ Chinese are of the same Han Race, which is different from the ethnic thing in India)

ITS NOT 72 TRANSFORMATIONS. its 72 Taoist spells, transformation is only one of the 72s. Wukong can transform into WHATEVER THE FUCK HE WANT.
So many people mistaken this it doesnt do Wukong's power justice. The other 71 are also a bunch of op shit like weather control, astral body, mindcontrol, dream invading, indestructable stone skin, draw a circle that repels demons, teleportation, able to detach his arms and legs and head, shadow clones...

Its stated in the novel that Sha Wujing only have 18 spells, Zhu Bajie have 36. And both of them can also transform into all living forms and objects.

Did you find it? When the old woman appeared, her foot without shoes was actually a spider's leg. All the female characters in the story were female monsters who had been trained by spiders to become human beings, and the little yellow spider was actually a monster, but had not been trained to become human. Actually in Chinese culture, everything can be upgraded, they learned the sky, the earth, the energy of the moon and stars, or do evil to gain others' souls to obtain power, uniting become demons or gods would transform to human, can live for hundreds of years, thousand years and more, every increase needed to cross a bullet (to bolt of lightning split on themselves). Once it's too much to take, all the work is wasted, and their body eventually returns to its original form.

I like how the gameplay trailer doesn't show the enemies being defeated, so they seem more of a force to be reckoned with, and they leave that sense of victory for the player to experience on their own.

About the "bonfire" place, there are 4 options:
The first one "调息"(tiáo xī) means "rest", like what u said, Wukong could restore his health with it. However, according to the intelligence on Chinese website, those defeated enemies would be refreshed too.
The second "缩地"(suō dì, a Chinese magic in Taoism that could teleport u from one place to another) suggests that this place has a portal function.
With the third "修行"(xiū xíng, practice) u could upgrade ur skills.
The last one "离开"(lí kāi), quit
In addition, according to the intelligence collected by fans on Chinese website, the enemies, including the giant wolf (灵虚子) in the ver first trailer, the white dragon (亢金龙) in the first UE5 trailer and the dragon (赤髯) in this video, they are probably not the so called "bosses", or u can call them "elite monsters". The only big boss right now is the "Yellow Eyebrow King"(黄眉大王), the old guy with bart at the end of the first UE5 trailer. And big boss means that Wukong's skills such as freezing skill in this video could be inaffective ti him. So, if the elite monsters are already so hard to fight against, u could imagine the real big bosses...

@@Darkshadow7827 are u talking about those 4 giants in the very first trailer? They are so called The Four Heavenly Guardians (Chinese 四大天王 or 四大金刚). Every one of them guards each one of the four directions in the first level of the Paradise (there are in total 33 levels of Paradise in Buhdaismus), In Journey to the West, they've ever tried to defeat Wukong but didn't make it.

@@Darkshadow7827 Well, as I said, these guardians are just in the first level of the paradise, and there are still 32 levels, so u can try to imagine... and as like I've mentioned above, right now the only known big boss is the "Yellow Eyebrow King" in the first UE5 trailer.

I loved reading Journey to the West and Sun Wukong. Some say Toriyama disrespected the novel when he took inspiration and incorporated gag elements from his previous works, but I honestly don’t think so.
I think anyone who said that was probably just trying to cause trouble between China and Japan for arrogant, nationalistic purposes.

This story originates from the original book "Pansi cave". As in the video, these girls are spider spirits. In the original book, they want to eat the meat of Tang monk to live forever, but I guess the story in the game will be changed. By the way, you can find the prototype of all the buildings in the first video in China, including the last box, which is a cultural relic that cannot be exhibited to foreign countries:)
the story takes place years after journey to the west where heaven becomes corrupted due to the invasion of the demons taking over the original heaven. The clone of wukong has to go on a 2nd journey to the west to redeem his original self who has become corrupted due to greed, and has now become the king of the demons and so on. Clone wukong final desire is to end the cause and effect and return to the era where neither heaven nor demons has any corruption.
In this scene, we see the spider ladies in the original lore of Journey to the west, but with a bit of twist. The old lady is either wukong's girlfriend who has now become old, and the one she captured is another wukong ready to eat him after marrying and mating with him. Or, it could be Chang'e, the girlfriend of the pig general (BaJie) in which the banshees turned wukong into the form of Bajie and is currently captured in the web of the spiders.
@11:32 context is this. They are demons, likely spider-demons, walking around in their human form(an ability only high-lvl demons have). They serve their mother/stepmother, likely a more powerful demon who raised/taught them magic, their mother seemed to be grooming a husband(your first-person perspective) and the daughters are talking about how you won't last long, because all demons in the Chinese myths desire life energy(yang chi) and they suck the energy/spirit(chi) out of mortals(mostly male) and eat their flesh in order to live and grow more powerful. The mother/old woman seems to be beholden to someone who looks like you(that go way back) or you, period, however for mortals, staying close enough to an old/powerful demon like that would still slowly suck out your energy, leaving you dead, which is why you not lasting very long is repeatedly brought up.

I hope the detailed bits of lore is explained in the game, maybe in the bestiary or some other in game book. I've seen bits and pieces of Journey to the West as a kid, but I was too young to really understand or grasp what I was seeing. I never read the actual texts either.
Also, on a separate note, it made me realize how my dad used to troll me as a kid haha. He used to tell my brother and I that we had an uncle that could pull out his hair and make his hair turn into monkeys. Only years later did I realize he trolled us and was just talking about Wukong haha. We were kids though, so we kinda believed XD

From what I watch, I instead feel like it is a short story adaptation of the aftermath of the love story between the Spider Queen Demon (蜘蛛精) with Monk Tang Sanzang (唐三藏).
After traveling to heaven, Monk come back to his old flame but the spider queen already past her demon age (I remember reading 妖精/demon humanoid have limited time-span before going out of control if they fail to ascend to a higher stage of enlightenment. That is why many demon humanoids want to eat the Monk flesh since it is very hard to ascend and extend their live).
Also on why monk come back, I think it is based on the version where Monk actually nearly break his monk oath when he was captured by the Spider Queen years ago during his 'journey to the west'.
There s also some versions where the Spider Queen demon accompanied the monk on his journey to obtain the sutra but many believed those are later addition by other author. Of course this version got rejected by a very conservative religious community for depicting the forbidden love between Spider Queen and Monk.
@@theroamingobserver I don’t think it’s the monk. They said the player character put up a good fight and was hard to catch. Everyone knows that Tang Sanzang is a hundred times easier to catch than even Princess Peach.
Some background knowledge about the line "The heaven hasn't been kind to you", from the spider mom to the invisible "me", (possibly) Wukong. In the original novel Journey To The West, there're many monsters that were once gods in the heaven who got punished and exiled by upperlevel gods and thus became monsters. Wukong himself was also once a god. Also, time flies 365 times slower in the heaven than in the mortal world (one day in the heaven, one year in the mortal world). Therefore, it's possible that the old lady was a god in heaven and had each other's love with Wukong, back to the time when they all lived in heaven. And due to some unknown reason, she got exiled before Wukong, thus became a spider monster and grew old quickly. That's also why she screamed out "GET OUT" to warn Wukong -- she still loved him after all these years.
The story between Wukong and the old lady is all personal guess, the original novel didn't depict any love story of Wukong

First he became the king of the Mountain where he appeared, then got his name from an immortal sage who taught him the transformations, then became immortal by erasing his name from a book in hell, then got the stick from one of the Sea Dragon kings, fought the gods, got invite to the Palace of the Jade Emperor, consumed a lot of magical potions/wines/foods that made him even stronger and eventually left after getting drunk and bored of not having a real post in the Court. His encounter with Buddha comes after the Jade Emperor's army of gods goes after him and are incapable of subduing him-
There is no love story between WuKung and the Spider Queen in the original book. Her and her spiderling daughters were just another "monster of the week".
Rock can take less damage from lightening, fur can take more damage from fire, like using different strategies to defeat different types of enemies
I am super interested in Chinese lore, so I hope I get to play this when it comes out! So far, I've been onboard with everything they showed, but that music just blew me away. China really does have incredible musicians.

A little backstory for this. One of the side characters for Journey to the West is 'Pig or Pig Man' and in the 80s TV show he is a romantic but obviously very ugly. He gets enthralled by a group of spider-women and Wukong ends up saving him so this is like a call-back to that. Feel free to correct me. It's been ages.
The background of Black Myth WuKong is based on the Journey to the West.But as a Chinese player,I know the Game Science well.
They were the pro-main team of Tencent online game named “斗战神” (YES, that game name is the Buddhism name of WuKong).
That game is popular in China in 2014 for its black and unusual stories of Journey to the West.It's adapted from The tale of WuKong,which is an adapted works of Journey to the West.And the book's writer is also one of that game's scriptwriter.

U can consider Black Myth of Wukong a third adapted works of Journey to the West.Its name honestly tells us that its stories are black-version myth of the Journey to the West.
In their pro-game 斗战神,they rewrote the background of East and West Heaven.They cannot represent true low and true goodness.And even these gods are killing human or monsters to satisfy their own needs
Some stories and characters were totally rewrote.And there were many sad and beautiful stories,unbelievable story truth,and inspiring thoughts....
They make that game great until the White Bone Wife version.After that version ,they leaved Tencent for some reasons.And the game's quality just fell down.
However.After so many years,they finally come back.
In Black Myth official website,they write"白骨之后，重走西游".It means"After White Bone Wife ,Go to the West again ".
SO we can reasonably guess they will still keep the style of 斗战神.Though they say"It won't be too a sharp contrast between white and black like the stories of 斗战神"
That means this game's story will be freaking awesome.The Music and character details also will be awesome!

the monkey is actually the 4th person to wreck havoc in the heaven, if you read the original journey to the west, you can spot the previous 3 (groups) including nezha, idk the proper names in english but there were the gourd bros and erlang god.
while nezha and the bros now work for the heaven, erlang god is still based on earth with his group of gods (the classificaition is quite complicated)

What seems really interesting is that you are just as strong as the bosses and you have your own abilities I like this system and I wish they do a similar thing in souls series where you get punished alot but you are also as powerful

Well it is a tale of a monkey ascending to godhood and then beating the living shit out of everybody, Gods included.
You are way stronger than the bosses in dark souls if you dodge right they legit can not touch you

and while all the good tv show, manga and manhwa are inspired by it in the end of the day they are their own things while this one suppose to be a sequel which could be quite hard to do

There are four biggest novel in China. Two of them being Three Kingdoms and Journey to the West. Another two is Water Margins and Dream of the Red Chambers. I think they could make another action game based on Water Margins, the story is also incredible on that one, i think it would be fresh to west audience.

This story contains so much hidden information in second part that it is difficult for even Chinese speakers to analyze it thoroughly🙃 One conjecture: The old spider was the reincarnation of Chang'e, and the protagonist was turned into Bajie and dedicated to her by other spiders, because other spiders knew that the male spiders after mating would be eaten, they want mom to be happy, not miss Bajie so much every day.

The transformation should have to do with the fact that electrical cannot do damage to stone or is weaker than stone.
In Feng Shui i believe lightning falls into the "fire" category, however, fire warms the earth, which houses the metals/minerals that filters and enriches the water, this water is then absorbed by plants and trees, allowing them to feed a healthy fire.
This is just a guess though, but the feng shui circle i wrote is legit.

For a dude who’s very hype about this game and has seen all the other trailers it’s strange that he seemingly forgot about the references to things from the other trailers. Like the big headed enemy that was avoided last time, and the rock transformation from the chinese new year trailer

Now this is a top game made by Chinese and is about Chinese mythology. Through it you will see our values, what we Chinese think is right or wrong. And you may very well find a lot similar values, in fact, most of them. And you will experience something different.
We are all human beings and our aspirations in life pretty much are the same.

Specifically, the lyrics had the male part going: 踏破银河无觅 玉颜红袖 "searching for you in the stars, but cannot find" 女：寻遍宫阙不见 良人佳偶 and the female going "gone through all the palaces but not found". The Palace is something the pig built in the realm of the morals that looks up at the moon where chang e lives. Searching in the stars is a analogy, he didn't actually go to the stars (and a moon is not a star). but anyway, that's a signal for the pig and chang e. (no one ever said chang e was a human girl, she could be anything, in this case, spider). Other hints are (female: 天地两世零落 几处离愁, broken apart on heaven and on earth).
In the original fiction, wukong and the pack received the doctrines of the budda and built a better world that is clearly still under the governance of the heavens. If you pay attention to the details, however, the heaven seemed weak in this game(the statues in the beginning of this cutscene have been beheaded and disarmed).
btw, the mother spider has 6 daughters, the sixth daughter is the small spider that was on the hand of the girl sitting down.(I know I though she was going to squish that pest, but of course she is not going to squish her sister dead)
I read an english translation of Journey the West, one of the weird thing is that it kind of spent a lot of time the beginning gassing up Sun Wukong but once he gets to the actual journey he was getting defeated by random monster of the week half the time

@@hyk3830 mostly because of the monk stopping him from doing so, in a lot of journeys to the west series and shows I’ve watched the monk always stops wukong from killing the demons, so he might be trying to cuff them or put em in submission first because if he doesn’t listen, the monk will be disappointed and the golden ring on his head will give him agonizing pain when chanting the words, so wukong isn’t allowed to do as much as he pleases because that caused a lot of problems back then

About the translation, overall it is pretty good but some places they oversimplified the meaning behind it.
For example 15:57 哥哥 actually means "older brother" (blood-related or not) and that is not commonly used by elders.
With only "My dear", audience can't really get the implication offered by the writer.

The translation is generally good, but there are some problems with the tone and attitude. The classical Chinese is a compressed package of modern Chinese, and some information will be missing when translated into English.
Translating it as "My Dear" is perfectly fine for a western audience since "brother" here in the west only holds the connotation of family relations compared to Asian countries, having literally translations will only cause confusion and ridicule.
“My dear” is correct since when married no matter of the age gap, the wife will always call their spouse something that literally translated as “big brother” in english. I’m a Vietnamese and the wife always call their husbands “Anh” and the huspand will call their wife “em”… which literally translated as “big brother” and “little sister” in english.
Vietnam has a lot of common with chinese and our pronouns are a little bit confusing lol

FYI, this is a re-interpretations of the classic Journey to the west, we still don't know how much the devs changed the classic story. there are plenty of journey to the west based games in china/chinese communities but never at the scale and quality.

The original myth Journey to the west is about the monk’s tour to see the Buddha. But the black myths is an unofficial version of the story after the Journey is completed.

In eastern culture, sacred big tree concept is very common. Genshin did not copy Elden ring. Big tree was already in Honkai Impact 3 (2016, Hoyoverse's previous game) and Genshin's Inazuma update in 2021. Elden ring copied Honkai Impact 3. You might not admit though.
From what I heard about this game, the wukong we play as is not the real wukong. We play as the impersonator that can copy wukong's whole abilities and the game takes place after the journey to the west.

at 0:29 and 8:03 you can clearly feel the animation is glitching there, I mean the running animation right after a dodge roll or after another skill just feels delayed and not in sync with the character movement, this issue is right there the whole time without any polishing work for an unknown reason, but anyway a solid presentation for a new company.

You probably won't believe this pretty ladies were all spiders(7 of them in total) In the original novel was all killed by wukong. The games probably won't be release until 2024, as the storyline were way too big.
Play for the storyline and the music. The cutscenes are some of the best top quality.
