Pilot just knows how to make good pens. I used the G2 for many years. Pilot's fountain pens are top notch, regardless of price point. Their quality assurance results in consistently good pens/nibs. They are not the most exciting in terms of design, most of their fountain pens are "boring" cigar shaped, but they really are among the best (if not the best) pens available IMO.
Cheap and available everywhere. I made a retractable Penspinning Pen out of two of these. (balanced on the geometric center for tricktwirling and fiddling around) And it gave me zero headaches that I destroyed 4 to 6 of them while finding the perfect method for this mod. That's by far my favorite ballpoint.
Hi great video, concise and straight to the point! I write a lot, especially outside of school. Personally, given the way I hold a pen, I prefer Bic to all pens (gel, fountain pens, pencils...etc...), an immortal classic.
You're gonna go big. Keep it up! Loved the video, and I love that pen! edit: You should try out fountain pens as well, if this turns out to be a stationery channel, you'll go in that rabbit hole sooner than later.
Hey man welcome to UA-cam! My name is Desk of Pens, if you wanna get into pens let me give you a few good suggestions. If you want to look at the equivalent for a pilot g2 in fountain pen form, try the pilot metropolitan or Lamy Safari. A great rollerball option is the Ohto cr02 and a great ballpoint option is the Uniball jetstream or pilot acroball. Overall, a great video! Can’t wait to see more!
If you use a pen loop, you very much dislike this pen. I don't care for the rubber bit anyway. Anyway … it's super popular because it's cheap, it's everywhere, the marketing on the packaging is great, and that refillable element is a bonus nudge. Also, when I look for red gel ink pens, for every other brand I find, the G2 shows up ten times compared to the others (again, they are everywhere) and the fact that it's red ink is more obvious than other manufacturers.
Great production, lookin forward for future content. I'm into fountain pens and i advice you to not try fountain pens... yet, you would need to take into consideration paper, ink, nib... it can be overwhelming and pricey at the start, plus you need some time to get familiar with all of this and how they behave between them. If you stick to rollerbals, ballpoints and maybe mechanical pencils it could be good to get a broad perspective of this before trying fountain or calligraphy pens. If you try more writing intruments could be a good idea to try them in different materials (copy paper, good smoth paper, cardboard, wood)
@@scrivven my top starter recommendations are hongdian c1 (and hongdian in general) and pilot kakuno (and pilot in general) these are the cheapest options from the respective companies and both sell for about 10 usd. they both have nicer pens such and the pilot metropolitan and hongdian n11 that are of higher quality (though i think hongdian beats pilot out if youre talking about the ~20 dollar price range)
If you haven't done it yet, you should give the PIlot Varsity (sometimes called a V-Pen) a good look. It's a disposable (but technically refillable) fountain pen that's affordable and a great start into the fountain pen world. And then you can compare it against the cartridge refillable Platinum Preppy (I think you should give the thicker medium nib a try).
Welcome to the world of pens. For smooth writing with a G-2, the 0.7mm gel or the 1.0mm gel are good, but avoid the 0.5mm gel. My experience with the G-2 0.5mm gel pen is scratchy and hard starting. the 0.5mm feels more like a "ballpoint" than a gel pen. As a note, technically all Gel, Ballpoint, and Rollerball pens are "Ballpoint" pens, it all comes down to their inks. What we call ballpoint pens use a thick ink that I believe is oil based. Rollerballs use a less viscous and usually water based ink (similar in some ways to fountain pen ink), then Gel pen ink, which I'm less familiar with the composition of, is I think a water based gel. The composition of gel and rollerball inks allow them to flow very smoothly requiring less effort to write. While no pen is perfect, I recomment you check out the Pentel Energel, Sharpie S-Gel, Uni-Ball One, Zebra Sarasa Dry X20, and BIC GelOcity, all of which can swap refils easily, so if you find you prefer the refils from the Pentel Energel but prefer the body of the Uni-Ball One you can put the Energel refill in the One. Then there's the the Zebra Blen, another excellent gel pen, I didn't include it in the previous group because it uses a different refill. Then you also get erasable gel pens in the Pilot Frixion and the Uni-Ball Erasable Gel. By the way, the Erasable Uni-Ball can also use the refills from the first group, but you lose the erasable feature. Then there's fountain pens, but that's a different rabbit hole.
welcome to one of the most boring-sounding niches - the 'stationary enthusiasts' for me it all started with getting a nice heavy stainless steel ballpoint because i didn't like how disposable the plastic ones felt. from then on i started binging pen reviews in the background while i work. fast forward to now, i daily with a lamy safari fountain pen and i've got a rotring 600 mechanical pencil (or 'lead holder' as they call it) on the way. as a uni student i write a lot, so being able to make the activity more enjoyable with higher quality writing instruments is pretty appealing to me. keep up the good content
The problem is that this guy has no point of comparison. He talks about all these basic features like they aren't on every single cheap chinese pen. Anyone with a little more experience uses a precise v5 or a signo or a jetstream
"Someone said the G2 is 'midlevel at best.' That's BS. I have Pilot fountain pens, TWSBIs, a Diplomat Aero, an Opus 88, and a Conklin Duragraph (that one I don't like). All the others are good, especially Pilot and TWSBI, because they perform well and aren't outrageously priced. However, fountain pens only write well on good paper, and it's insane to spend $10-20 on a notebook just so your $150-1000 fountain pen can actually write like a pen that cost that much. A cheap TWSBI or Pilot still writes just as good. I like my fountain pens, but the G2 wrires as well or better. It's slightly disconcerting this video on G2s appeared in my feed. I think Google is spying on me through my computer camera, because I just pulled out my stash of Pilot G2s for yhe first time in two years, and started comparing them to my fountain pens. I'm starting to think of going back to gel pens. I use or used G2s and Energels, but they both run out of ink way too fast, which almost makes them not worth it. That's the reason I switched to fountain pens. Gel pens write better, but I can burn through the ink in one of those in a few days, and that's a problem. As far as Pilot, they're probably the best pen makers in the world, period. You basically never hear negative things about them, at least in terms of their writing ability, which is what they're supposed to do. A lot of pricey fountain pens can't even get that right, which is insane, but we're living in a Leftist horror show of a world, so insanity and suicidal stupidity is the norm, because that's the goal of the left - the destruction of the West. Thank God Trump won. Anyway, I took a little right turn there, never a left turn! If you're going for a fountain pen, Pilot or TWSBI in the sub-$35 price range has worked great for me. I just bought my 7th TWSBI Eco, but then you have to use paper that will work well with their ink, and not absorb it, thus making it look like you wrote with " magic marker," ( that's what we called them when i was kid, anyway, their lines aren't crisp, and look like hell). I cant stand writting with a pen that writes bad.

ooh will do!
Hi
Just want to let you know the previous thumbnail was better ❤
Never seen one in my life irl, i guees energel takes the cake in terms of everything if we forget uni pin
Man good video but I really think the Pilot G2 is overrated when the Pentel Energel exists
Subscribed! I love your pacing and honesty. Keep making videos brother. I suggest reviewing pens by Zebra!

Try Uniball Signo 307 and Signo Um-100 , they deserve to be reviewed by a creator like you

Bic Cristal gang where you at?

hey, yes I'm 100% new to pens. That's the fun! I'll try out a Precise V5 in an upcoming video :)
Also there is value in the experience of a “beginner” (as if this categorisation really matters, we are talking about pens not a medical degree).
pilto g2 is mid at best. try a cheap fountain pen like pilot kakuno
That's a great, smooth fountain pen, but it's a different type of pen.
I, for one, detest it!
