Maurice G but that’s his point. Traditionally Krav Maga takes the firearm to the attackers left side...both getting out of the line of fire AND negating the left hand. So then it’s not either/or but instead removing both threats.
Methodtraining I agree. What you are describing is how I was taught it. A short simultaneous punch with the free hand at the same time you grab the gun. As you close the distance, you are almost standing next to the gunman on his right side as you disarm so the gunman’s free hand is all the way on the other side.
@@mauricegee77 , finger and wrist are broken immediately of the bad guy once the good guy grabs the gun..no time to get punched...I have performed this 1,000's of times for my students and they all say the same thing until you actually have them hold the gun properly not just for training purposes.
Deflecting the gun in this way he is exposed to the aggresor's free left hand, he can use it to harm him or to protect the gun. Kicking is not a good idea he can lose his balance, and disarming the gun using fine motor movements is not a good idea too expecially against a bigger and stronger opponet. If the aggressor uses some resistance I dubt he can disarm him with this tecnique
BJJ is great (so is boxing, wrestling...) because we all can come up with "moves" but only real life full contact sparring will determine if stuff works or not. I´m 99.9999% sure you will get shot by this if you REALLY WANT TO
Something tells me the finess (fine motor skills as a commentator said) required to do this under stress, the fact that you don't move your body "before" the grab, the fact that you are inside the armed guy's shoulders, the fact that the left free hand can re-take the gun or reinforce the pull, etc... I wouldn't use it unless the armed guy is really stupid, and even then... Why not move your body FIRST to the outside (out of line) forming an angle, and then grab 2 on 1 the armed hand, and then negate (with pivoting movement) the free hand's leverage? Just asking, as a non-expert.
Bjj is great because of the practice of grappling. Without practice you stand same stupid as an aikido guy in a grappling match or an bjj guy in a gun defense. We hold our guns always both! hands by short distances, so you need to fight two hands vs two and the whole time we aim on you. In 30 years we loose not even one gun in our department and i learned it from taekwondo. So never smile over an art or technic when the rules change from civil street to crime street.
As someone who has practiced both Krav and BJJ, they both have their place, but I think it’s silly for some of the BJJ guys criticizing an art without actually trying it first.
This method leaves you exposed to the attacker's left arm.
Best to get outside the arm with the gun.
That’s fair, but the point of the attack is to disarm the gun. I’d rather eat a left hook than a bullet to the chest.

Also make sure the assailant uses a dummy weapon.
I wanted to see the jiu jitsu way of disarming the gun
too eazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
