Very informative information about the 2012 toonie, James. And super cool to meet a coin image Designer! Sweet to pickup low mintage coins, a great box by far! Maybe a mini collection dump!
Awesome hunt. I had so many black toonie and decided to spend some of them since i had a lot and I heard the mint is making more of the black toonie so I decided it was not worth holding a lot of black toonies
They're definitely not rare - so far it looks like just the 5 million have been confirmed to have been minted. I think a lot of folks have held onto them so far. I imagine we'll see more in the coming months!
That was a really cool hunt with some crazy finds, especially the 2012s and the Summit Series, as well as some black toons to top it off! Congratulations! The black toonies look stunning! I remember hearing about their release in December, and I wanted to get some before I headed back to Austria for 4 months before xmas, but due to exams I didn't have much time to hunt (not that I thought they'd end up in rolls so soon), and no shops in Waterloo had any. I did some shop hunts at Pearson airport before my flight, and every shop didn't have them... except for the last one I checked, which must've just gotten a whole roll of them! Managed to get a few and traded the doubles with a few people in Europe :)
Interestingly, the first time I saw one, I didnt' think the 'black' ring looked very black. However, seeing them in person - they're quite striking and dark!
Thanks! So far I've just taken them back to the bank and they've exchanged them for real toonies. I haven't tried that in a while, so I have a few on hand!
I picked up 10 of the coloured summit series from the mint during an exchange. The edges of the coin the date and Canada stamp are facing up , some are facing down. Was there supposed to be different variations-?
For the edge lettering, you can find both orientations (up and down). Some collectors will collect one of each orientation. I don't both with that. It's a random process to stamp the edge lettering in, and it's essentially 50/50, so it's not a 'variety' distinction that I pay attention to.
I just get them from the bank. Just let the teller know how many rolls you want and they should be able to help you out. Check out my video "Coin Roll Hunting 101: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide" for more tips and tricks for new coin roll hunters.
Yes, you're right! Good eyes. The one is straight across the bottom of the coin, while the other curves somewhat along the diameter. Good eyes - I didn't even notice that!
Did you see the announcement a couple weeks ago? Bank of Canada officially announced we're going to see Charles III on coins and the $20 note. I suspect that next year's Uncirculated coin set is going to be a hot commodity. 😂
It's too early to know. I usually don't find new coins until Aug/Sep most years. So, it's possible, but only time will tell. I suspect there might be lots of them, as the mint is likely expecting lots of demand from collectors and heightened interest from the general population.
Are the black ring toonies worth anything? I suspect they are only worth face value but you never know. I had never noticed them before and the other day I way digging through my change cup and found 2.
@@CADRollHunter I’ve got a bone to pick with you. Since I watched this video I find myself paying extra close attention to any coins I get, to the point it’s annoying lol. I can’t buy a coffee without checking dates and anything else I might notice before I hand it over to pay It’s all your fault 😛😛😛
@Poorguy212 - That's a good idea. The coin that rolls in is actually the channel logo. Most videos actually include a pic of the denomination featured in the video in the background on that screen. The exception is Loonies and Toonies, as I've never taken a pic of a large pile of those coins. I should probably do that!!
And do you have an email or soemthing I can send a picture of some coins I have I got some questions about lol? They look beat up asssffff. And then just some older coins n stuff. States and Canada
Absolutely. I average just over 5 counterfeits per 500 coin (20 roll) box. That's 1% of all coins I hunt. My average is somewhat lower than other coin roll hunters in some communities, though it may be higher than others. The data and anecdotal evidence suggests that millions of counterfeits have been produced and introduced into the circulating pool of coins. A coin roll hunter friend of mine received a full box of counterfeits from a bank - all 500 coins were fake. The communities where these coins are being introduced will see a higher distribution, of course. These coins have likely been mass-produced overseas with sophisticated techonlogy, but at minimal cost. Someone's made millions of dollars on this effort. It's not clear if they're still being produced.
Not only do I enjoy watching what you find, I also really enjoy learning about your finds. Very informative and entertaining!
Thanks - I appreciate it! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos!
Nice hunt, James! Love seeing the low montages as well as those black ringed coins. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I enjoy sharing my finds (just like I enjoying seeing waht other coin roll hunters find in their hunts!)

good hunt! recently my uncle found a roll of the colored hockey toonies in the register and we bought it for FV
Wow, that's a great find! Awesome!
The black ring Toonies remind me of the black beauty Jefferson’s in the fifties.❤
They're pretty nice looking coins, for sure!
Nice Hunt!! I love Canadian Coins especially the commemorative coin.. they're beautiful collections..

I see one in your future soon!! Thanks for watching!!
Good evening Cad Roll Hunter
Thanks for watching, Timbo - I hope you're doing well!
Congrats on your first black toonies and FOUR 2012 old generations! Hopefully you didn't get shorted.
Not this time!
Great hunt! Lots of goodies
Thanks for watching, Tom!
Great video as always.

I always wanted a black toonie. That's a good find there, eh.
For sure! Thanks for watching, Gilbert!
What a great hunt. I gave up trying to find the black ringed toonies and ordered a roll from the RCM. What do you do with the fakes?
Thanks! So far I've just taken them back to the bank and they've exchanged them for real toonies. I haven't tried that in a while, so I have a few on hand!
Very Nice find

I am interested to buy some rolls where do you buy them. I am new at this but I am very interesting. You inspire me….thank you so much

I got a dark ring Toonie in my change from a coffee shop the other day .
Nice!!
Nice hunt 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
The ''2022'' font for the summit series commemorative is also slightly different than the regular issue.
He mentioned that in the video.
Yes, you're right! Good eyes. The one is straight across the bottom of the coin, while the other curves somewhat along the diameter. Good eyes - I didn't even notice that!
Would you say going into the bank and asking for rolls is a good idea to find some good coins?
For sure - it's easier to find something special when you look through a high volume of coins. Getting rolls is the best way to do this!
Four old generation 2012s is pretty cool. And they all seem to look fine as well without any significant issues.
Definitely a great surprise!
Cool finds. I would love to buy oy trade for any of your surplus Commemerative Toonies.
Nice finds in these Toonies, only a shame you always get the counterfeits as well...
I wonder if/when I'll get a full box with no fakes. Doesn't seem to likely at this rate!!
Is there any errors on black ring toonies that you have heard of? Thank you in advance
I haven't heard of any!
What a fun hunt! What do you have to do with the fakes?
So far I've just taken them back to the bank and the tellers will exchange them for me.

Yes, I did see that. I think you're right. Looking forward to seeing the new coins!
How about this year’s? Will it be lower montage like 1948 if they haven’t released them yet?

In circulated condition, just face value for sure.

@@MikeHart72 I know! You'be become obsesive compulsive with coins. Just like me!! 🤣
I found three in circulation already in Montreal
Glad to hear they're out that way, too! Thanks for watching!
Did a small toonie hunt yesterday (5 rolls) came up with two 2022 black ringed toonies!
That's great in just 5 rolls!
Hello sir, where can you get those coin roll?
Just ask at the bank - they'll sell you rolls of coins.
@@CADRollHunter Thank you, i am also a coin collector
Today i found the black toonies from the queens
Oh, that's great - they're definitely out there!
What I'm thinking is you should change the coin that rolls in, so 1 cent for a 1 cent hunt and etcetera
Thanks so much for watching!!
@CADRollHunter, ok.... 😅

J'en ait une pièce black toonies 2022
Nice! That's a great one to have in your collection!
Is it true that the mint has released 2 new toonie designs for 2023 for circulation? The National Indigenous Peoples Day colour and non colour
Yes - they should be released later in July. Looks like they'll also be low mintage like other recent commemoratives.
@@CADRollHunter makes sense
@@CADRollHunter also that's so cool
What does camel toe mean?
Look at front right paw. Fake looks like two toes, whereas the real shows four toes.
The reference is to the cloven hoof of a camel, that essentially has two sides. That's what the bear's paw looks like.
