That was exactly like what happened when my parents adopted our second cat Bagheera, he would eat bread that was left on the counter, hence he got the nickname The Breadator. This is why we later got a box to keep the bread inside. However, Bagheera would find a way to get it open until we finally added velcro and a strap to the box so it's secure. Also, Bagheera has a high-pitched meow like Luigi, he is two years old and he still squeaks.
OMG, my cat Sunshine was just like flame point version of your Junie. We caught her dragging half a loaf of bread up the stairs. She also loved bagles - she'd sit and scream at my feet when I was doing anything involving bagles.
