The 4l60e can be wired to the hei and using the tps sensor kit for the holley carbs to run just fine without a stand alone or anything and everything still works like this
@@CCAutoWorks yea I always was too, it kept me from swapping my 98 z71 vortec, but there's a few videos on here that show how to wire it up to an hei. 1 in particular but can't remember the title but yea that made my day lol Doesnt look much different then then the tbi wiring other then the crank sensor the vortec has but that is 1 you wire in to the hei for the signal instead of leaving it connected to the sensor
@@CCAutoWorks not to much different from the tbi its fairly simple. I think the crank sensor and possibly a different fuel regulator 🤔 depends on the 1 you used for this can handle the higher psi for the vortec pump but I know they make the 1 that does just not sure if its different then this 1 lol

Finally doing what I should have done, and carb swapping my 94 with vortec heads and mild cam 355. Even with a custom chip burned, it's just been issue after issue, and it still feels just as slow (if not slower) than a stock 350 tbi. 4L60E doesn’t need a standalone controller. It is very simple to make it shift. Holley sales a tps kit that bolts to the choke side of the carb and then splice your tach signal into the original wire for crank signal and that’s all you need. Factory tach and speedometer works.
I think the GM TBI units were 410 cfm and 460 cfm so it should have a good bit more high end power. Assault racing is headquartered about 40 miles north of me, they got a great holly blue knock off pump if you ever need one. We are gonna try their electric water pump on the 460
Thanks for the info Jim hopefully you make a video on what you think about there water pump because I've been thinking about a set of there sbc heads to
got question for you ....i just rebuild my chevy 350 1990 k5 blazer i converted it over from tbi to carb ..i did a few up grade on the engine high performance intake headers 3' pipes all way back up graded the cam to a howard rattler cam 525 intake lift 535 exhaust duration 227/235 lobe separation 109 center line 103 i still the same factory heads on there i believe they the swirl port heads ..i no i should have went with some better heads but the engine was already done. i put a brand new 1406 edelbrock car on it right out the box every sence i put that carb on there i been using alot of fuel i set the carb best as posible ..im using a awful lot of fuel just with it iding..i have my pressure regulator set at 5psi..dont no why im losing so mush fuel
It's all to do with the cam size and the lsa and the vacuum the cam makes we have other videos where we deal with this problem running a rattler cam on my little brothers mustang you need to buy stepup springs for the carb and possibly drill tiny holes in the throttle blades as a old school trick to lean it out
TBI worked great when new..but after trying everything to solve a random misfire on a 30+ year old truck, to no avail, makes me start wanting to just convert it over to a carb..anything with a computer and sensors, even the older and more simplistic stuff, has too many things interacting and effecting each other...much easier to diagnose and repair if everything is simple and independent of each other..ignition system independent of the fuel system, fuel system independent of ignition, so on and so forth...
Same problem here. 89 4.3. idle stumble, random misfire, ICM failure has gone from once every 2 years to every 2 weeks. I never had these problems with carbed Chevys.
@@fgoindarkgI have an Iroc Tpi 350, how does wiring a carb swap work. As far as fueling can I just keep the stock ecm and wiring and the stock fuel pump in there and then cut into the stock fuel lines in the engine bay and use fuel pressure hoses to hook up to a regulator and to the carb? What other wiring do I need to worry about Trans wiring, ignition wiring too? What’s the least to make it run. Just need someone with experience to give me tips and general answers 😊

@ C&C Auto Works, where did you get your electric cooling fans and what part number and or year model are they off of? I have a 88 GMC Sierra SLE K1500 with 5.7L, and 700R4 trans that I'm completely converting over with a rebuilt 350 engine with stock flat top pistons, a set of 350 non-swirlport L98 cast iron heads with casting #14100183, Speed master dual plane intake, Lunati Street Master cam #301A6, 750 CFM Quadrajet carb, may change to over to a Holley 650 CFM Brawler carb later, HEI distributor w/vacuum advance, Hedman long tube headers, 2-1/2 in dual exhaust, 3.73 rear gears, may go with electric water pump later, and I'm definitely using a dual radiator electric cooling fan assembly if I can find one that'll work in my truck that looks like factory if possible. I noticed the electric cooling fan in your truck and it looked like it was factory. Good job on the TBI to carb change over.

The buddy system doesn't always work out but at least he's giving you your money back but I think even with that it still should have run close to right
Do you think it's the rings or maybe a valve seal and I've even seen an intake gasket not seal and suck oil out of the lifter valley into the intake port from the under side on one or two cylinders
i have been told that 1406 carb that i have my engine is pulling quit a bit of vacunnm the jets needs to be change to the smallest ones .095 and put in the fattest metering rods and put in the heaviest springs that will make a big difference on the fuel..
With that cam your running you probably don't have much vacuum at all so it freaks out the card put a vacuum gauge on it see how much vacuum it makes and put the stepup springs in it for the vacuum it's making but you will probably still have to change the rods and jets to lean it out
Ive got a 3500 Express with a L31 Vortec 350, and the TBI is starting to give me shit. Considering upgrading the fuel delivery, but that trans module is a huge cost compared to going to a big block TBI on an otherwise stock work van. It usually runs fine snd drives fine, tows with no issues, but when its got problems it just dies and takes a while to get cleared up to run again. Might need the fuel lines replaced too, but that spider under the intake is just a bad design. Its less of a problem on the TBI built for the 454, but still a TBI. What was the total cost to go to virtec heads and run a carb with regulator? I'm definitely not resolved to using a TBI, might go to a 750 cfm carb on a dual plane intake. If i have to pull the engine its getting a lot more work than just that TBI upgrade. Might get a 6.0 4l80E drivetrain at that point.
6.0 4l80 sounds good but back when I done this I pulled the heads from a junk yard for $40 the vortec summit air gap intake was $200 carb was $320 regulator was $55 air cleaner $25 and hei distributor $60 custom ground roller cam was $200 lifters $80
yes, I don't consider the '96 up Vortec an improvement on the TBI at all...much crappier distributor design, crappy spider injectors and plastic intake, and far more electronics and sensors...
@@CCAutoWorks Been good! Me and my nephew tore down the 4l80e this morning finally. Gonna be doing the reassembly throughout this coming week. I'll be filming that.
What size carb are you using? Are you running it straight out of the box? What year is your truck? My 91 doesn't have tach. I'm either gonna do a complete custom gauge set up or it would be nice if I could find one like yours at a pull a part
Mine has a tach because it's manual transmission it's a 92 and it's a summit racing max performance 650cfm that I've tuned a little bit but it still ran right out of the box

Ahhh what I was looking for. I have an 88.5.7 with SM 465 . I’m so over the TBI and stock dist, but don’t want to lose Cruise control. So you left the harness alone other than DCing the TBI and DIst and the cruise still works? Thanks
I like to thank you for all the Information on the swap. I have one question the truck have a 4160 transmission what would it take to Install the 700R transmission I know the tps control transmission down shift.
I’m having trouble getting my regulator to maintain 6psi. I turned the screw counterclockwise and the lowest it will get too is 17 psi. I’m thinking the 3/8 return line is too small which doesn’t make sense. I’m having trouble getting the edelbrock to run right
Sweet video brother, the info will come in handy down the road. Got a question for you or anyone who reads this. This is the situation I'm in. I recently bought a 77 Sierra Classic K15 for a project truck it's 98% complete. It's not running. The original 400 sbc engine, turbo400 transmission and transfer case were removed and replaced with a 5.7 tbi smallblock and 700r4 tranny out of a 87 suburban. The setup was only dropped in and nothing hooked up, it's all just sitting in there I'm not great with with computers and not a fan of fuel injection and want to put this old girl back to a carburetor the way she came from the factory. I'm going the way of a mechanical fuel pump, so other than that I need the intake for vortec heads, a carburetor and hei distributor. How difficult to get that 709r4 tranny working, it's not electronically controlled? I would be setting it up like a TH350 or TH400 correct?
One an 87 suburban isn't a vortec so no need for a vortec intake manifold 87 is tbi and the tbi heads use the regular sbc intake you just have to drill the bolt holes a tad bigger sometimes and for the 700r4 you just need a throttle bracket for the detent kickdown cable for the 700r4 and you need a vacuum switch for the converter lockup once it's in overdrive or I've seen some people just use a taggle switch but I like the vacuum switch so it does it on its own no worries
Im having problems getting my fuel pump to run. I have a 1992 c1500 sport truck that I just installed a 1965 327 sbc. Where do you run the purple/white wire if you have a msd distributor?
Hopefully you see this and maybe I missed it but I just did this to my 87 suburban... what did you do to get the fuel pump to kick on I'm on that last step and have no fuel?
Hey man, did you have any issues with swapping to vortec heads? Im currently in the process but dont know if i should port the tbi heads or go the extra foot and get vortec heads and port those? My main concern is the fitting from the alternator brackets etc but mines looks just like yours so im not too concerned just dont know how to run the heater hose and etc..
They bolt right up no problem all the tbi brackets bolt right up you will just need a intake for vortecs and the heater hoses are no big deal there very simple to figure out
Just starting tearing down the top end of my 350. Has tick in the top end before I parked it for the winter went to go start it up to diagnose and I had no spark or fuel. So now I’m planning on going to carb and I’ve got a fuel regulator, 2101 edelbrock performer intake, hei distributor and a 650 quadrajet ready to go when I figure out what the tick is. Any advice?
Probably a lifter tick I'd try adjusting the rockers it might have pulled a rocker stud a tad bit or a lifter collapsed but adjusting the rockers should get rid of tik if not it might be deeper like a spun rod bearing

My trans is manual but yes a 700r4 has to have a vacuum lockup switch TCI sells them and I think this temp wire for the gauge will still work without the computer but I left my computer in
I have a 700R4 in my suburban then I'm trying to do this too. What all would have to be done for the transmission? Is it just the kickdown cable that I have to worry about?
@@rjlittlefield9209 the way I understand it is that it will work as normal as long as your tv cable is set right but the converter won't lock up and it won't get as good as gas mileage because it's not locked but I'm not 100% sure but this is what I've read and heard
No mines manual but you start by just taking all the slack out of the cable if u want it to hold shifts longer put a little more tension on the cable but u also need a way to lock the converter
Hey how are you I’m running something like this on my obs same carburetor I’m useing all must all the same as u but I’m haven a hard time to get my fuel up to 6psi
Sorry I have another question. About the video you sent me. Do I cut and connect the green and white wire to ignition power or to the pink ignition wire under the dash? Thanks in advance.
Yes fits in a factory vortec roller block only thing you need to check is your valve guide clearance you might need to cut your valve guides down a little

Hey I got a 89 tbi camaro and it doesn’t have center bolt heads I forgot I should be able to use old style carb intake right or would I need the four middle bolts angled
I just cut the stock metal lines and slide a rubber fuel hose over and clamped it and the fuel regulator is marked in out and returns out of the bottom
Ok so which Holley regulator would I need to make this work with running the stock fuel pump? Would I need to go with the one rated for higher psi ( 50-60) or would I got with the lower one ( 4-9 ) ?? I’m just confused on which I would need. I bypassed my stock pump and used a Edelbrock micro pump but I’m having issues now. When using the stock pump it just shoots fuel out of my carb. I don’t know if it is because of the regulator I got from autozone is too weak or what….any advice?
So do you not need the computer when you put a 350 in a truck? I’ve been thinking about swapping motors, it’d be easy if I didn’t have to worry about the computer lol

Sounds like your timing is off but I did change my distributor gear out for a brass one because of the roller cam or they have a different material distributor gear that's harder then brass but still softer then the cam it starts with a M

No you don't need a new harness carbureted engine really doesn't need anything more the one ignition wire to run other than the starter wiring and the harness you have will hook to all your sensors so your gauges will still work
Do you know exactly is needed to run the 4l60 obs model either I get it running or get another transmission to me. It sounds about the same amount of money I would like to just use what I have. if you can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Good video. Thank you.
There is no "Amps" meter. The TBI system is not ECM / CAN system as in the Vortex's. As such, the gauges R analogue and direct fed by senders. The few sensors R only 4 the TBI dummy box. As such is the latest I tolerate 2 own. The more electronics the more the failure. I will gladly swap a little performance 4 a lot of reliability. Performance is not good if it quits. Good old '1 wire' engines. Hard 2 beat. Another good thing about TBI. U can revert back 2 a carbonator without replacing ½ the vehicle.

I just bought a older running 350 carb to pan . I want to drop it straight in and not have to rewire everything . Anything would be helpful .
It's wouldn't be to much work or wiring but you would have to wire a kickdown switch to the carb for the th400 and you would have to do a little wiring to make the fuel pump stay running and you would need a fuel bypass pressure regulator

got question for you ....i just rebuild my chevy 350 1990 k5 blazer i converted it over from tbi to carb ..i did a few up grade on the engine high performance intake headers 3' pipes all way back up graded the cam to a howard rattler cam 525 intake lift 535 exhaust duration 227/235 lobe separation 109 center line 103 i still the same factory heads on there i believe they the swirl port heads ..i no i should have went with some better heads but the engine was already done. i put a brand new 1406 edelbrock car on it right out the box every sence i put that carb on there i been using alot of fuel i set the carb best as posible ..im using a awful lot of fuel just with it iding..i have my pressure regulator set at 5psi..dont no why im losing so mush fuel
Very true
Same problem here. 89 4.3. idle stumble, random misfire, ICM failure has gone from once every 2 years to every 2 weeks.
I never had these problems with carbed Chevys.
@@fgoindarkgI have an Iroc Tpi 350, how does wiring a carb swap work.
Did you have to do anything to keep the AC working?
No you just might have to idle it up a little more so it doesn't die when the compressor kicks on
i have been told that 1406 carb that i have my engine is pulling quit a bit of vacunnm the jets needs to be change to the smallest ones .095 and put in the fattest metering rods and put in the heaviest springs that will make a big difference on the fuel..

@@dyer2cycle I agree when it's in stock form but the roller block and the vortec heads are a good improvement performance wise

The setup was only dropped in and nothing hooked up, it's all just sitting in there
I'm not great with with computers and not a fan of fuel injection and want to put this old girl back to a carburetor the way she came from the factory.
With an msd idk really but on a hei you run it to a tach signal wire
Or you can do this images.app.goo.gl/bjN5JDquhYg7vick7

Can you pull the ignition power from the factory ignition wire .
As long as it's a switch ignition wire
How did you use your stock fule lines? Did you cut them or use them with fittings. If so, could you give my an idea of what fittings i will need?
I just cut and flared them put high pressure efi rubber fuel line

Hopefully you see this and maybe I missed it but I just did this to my 87 suburban... what did you do to get the fuel pump to kick on I'm on that last step and have no fuel?
I watched it again and found what you said and colors of wires... thanks!
There's a purple wire in the factory distributor wires that you hook to the tach port on your hei distributor or you can wire the factory pump relay

@@gabrielibarra5551 all my gauges work just like factory no problems there my truck has a manual transmission so no tps sensor and if it was automatic mines a 92 it would have a 700r4 and they use a TV cable 93 and up you need tps sensor I have the air gap intake and I just stuffed the tbi harness in the gap below the carburator to hide it
Eyyyyyyy, im going to just save this in my to do Playlist lol
Brailsfords if your really thinking about doing something like this to the fox I've got another video doing this to my 92 f150 and it would be more like your fox
@@CCAutoWorks im considering it, need to see how much work and if I'd rather do this than tuneup and fidget with the current system
i got a spare 408 chev in my garage doing nothing,,, i am dying to put the engine in my 1993 GMc c1500,, unfortunately its a 4l60e,, and its a brand new gearbox,, my old 5.7 is tired and leaking oil bad and down on power and greasy and scruffy lookin.
i just found the 4l60e is nothing more than a th700 and i hate that low 3.06 first gear, i could sell the 4l60e as its got a 2 year warrantee and get into a 4l80e and get it rebuilt,,, the only thing i am worried about is i want the factory speedo working.
steve in Australia
these cars are rare here. i aint seen one in 3 years except mine.
They make a manual controller you can get off eBay to control the 4L60E for like 60 or $80
Hey there I was wondering if you'd would sell or give me a more detailed information on a tbi to carb conversion .
I have a 88 with a 5.0 tbi with a th400 trans .
@@CCAutoWorks I would like to do it the way you did it . It seems perfect . I manually shift my passing gear most of the time .
I guess what I'm wanting to know is if you would like draw and write a diagram and what to do list for a person who wanted to follow what you did .
I would be more than happy to pay for your time .
@@bilhow7066 ok on the wiring and fuel line part and a th400 is a three speed there is no passing gear are you sure it's not a 700r4
@@CCAutoWorks very sure sir
@@bilhow7066 ok do you have an Instagram account or something so I can send you a couple diagramms
Assuming stock bottom end, do you know HP and Torque numbers with the changes you made?
350 0.030 over flat tops with vortec heads and lt4 hot cam I'm guessing it makes 360/380 at the crank
I carb swapped my 1994 blazer full size, it stalls after about 5 minutes of run time. I have the fuel regulator at 5 psi and an HEI distributor. It always cranks back up tho. Could that be something electrical that I need to fix?
How did u go about hooking your fuel pump up
@@CCAutoWorks it’s the stock fuel pump
@@wyattearp3848 did u wire the relay or did u use the distributor trigger wire to turn pump on
